Geopolitieke ontwikkelingen zetten toeleveringsketens al jaren zwaar onder druk. Neem de Houthi-rebellen uit Jemen die na het uitbreken van de Gaza-oorlog vrachtschepen van en naar Isra毛l onder vuur namen. Veel rederijen vermeden vervolgens de handelsroute via het Suezkanaal, wat leidde tot langere levertijden en stijgende transportkosten.

Ook de Russische inval in Oekra茂ne zorgde voor de verstoring van aanvoerketens, bijvoorbeeld van tarwe en zeldzame materialen. Zo werd de auto-industrie hard getroffen doordat cruciale metalen zoals nikkel en palladium, essentieel voor batterijen en halfgeleiders, door sancties moeilijker verkrijgbaar werden. Europese bedrijven die afhankelijk waren van Oekra茂ense en Russische leveranciers moesten halsoverkop op zoek naar alternatieve bronnen.

鈥�Als een supply chain niet flexibel genoeg is ingericht, leidt dat onvermijdelijk tot problemen鈥�, benadrukt Doomen. 鈥淶o kan een leverancier die zijn grondstoffen niet op tijd ontvangt de hele productieketen vertragen, met directe gevolgen voor productie en levering.鈥� Dat zagen we bijvoorbeeld tijdens de coronacrisis, toen grote chiptekorten de aflevering van elektronica en nieuwe auto鈥檚 vertraagden.

Supply chains zijn suboptimaal

Volgens Marcel Bron, Head of Supply Chain Management bij SAP, kampen veel bedrijven met inflexibele en 鈥榮uboptimale鈥� supply chains. 鈥�Een belangrijke oorzaak is de afhankelijkheid van enkele productielocaties. Veel bedrijven hebben jarenlang zwaar ingezet op China als productieland. Dat leek effici毛nt, maar leidt tot grote problemen als importtarieven stijgen of routes worden verstoord. Daarom zien we nu een trend richting spreiding, met productielocaties in bijvoorbeeld Vietnam en Oost-Europa.鈥�

Daarnaast spelen geografische beperkingen een rol. 鈥�Wanneer een bedrijf supply chains per regio organiseert zonder centraal overzicht, kunnen voorraden onnodig opstapelen鈥�, legt Bron uit. 鈥�Gebied A plaatst bestellingen terwijl gebied B het product op voorraad heeft. Dit leidt tot onnodig hoge kosten en kapitaalbeslag. Een centraal systeem dat realtime inzicht biedt in voorraden en distributie kan dit voorkomen, door de beschikbare voorraad effici毛nter te verdelen en onnodige bestellingen te vermijden.鈥�

Een ander struikelblok is technologie. 鈥�Veel bedrijven werken met verouderde IT-systemen die niet flexibel genoeg zijn om snel te schakelen鈥�, merkt Doomen op. 鈥�Cloudsoftware biedt hier een oplossing. Maar als verschillende onderdelen van een supply chain met eigen technologische systemen werken, ontstaan er integratieproblemen en datasilo鈥檚.鈥�

鈥�Een van de belangrijkste verbeterpunten is betere afstemming in de keten鈥�, zegt Bron. 鈥�Organisaties moeten niet alleen inzicht hebben in hun eigen leveranciers, maar ook in de leveranciers van hun leveranciers. Tijdens de chiptekorten van een paar jaar geleden werd pijnlijk duidelijk hoe belangrijk dit is. Als een bedrijf niet weet waar zijn toeleveranciers mee te maken hebben, kan dat leiden tot leveringsproblemen en ontevreden klanten.鈥�

Neem de Houthi-rebellen uit Jemen die na het uitbreken van de Gaza-oorlog vrachtschepen van en naar Isra毛l onder vuur namen. Veel rederijen vermeden vervolgens de handelsroute via het Suezkanaal, wat leidde tot langere levertijden en stijgende transportkosten.

Ook de Russische inval in Oekra茂ne zorgde voor de verstoring van aanvoerketens, bijvoorbeeld van tarwe en zeldzame materialen. Zo werd de auto-industrie hard getroffen doordat cruciale metalen zoals nikkel en palladium, essentieel voor batterijen en halfgeleiders, door sancties moeilijker verkrijgbaar werden. Europese bedrijven die afhankelijk waren van Oekra茂ense en Russische leveranciers moesten halsoverkop op zoek naar alternatieve bronnen.

鈥淎ls een supplychain niet flexibel genoeg is ingericht, leidt dat onvermijdelijk tot problemen鈥�, benadrukt Bart Doomen, Chief Business Officer van 51风流Nederland. 鈥淶o kan een leverancier die zijn grondstoffen niet op tijd ontvangt de hele productieketen vertragen, met directe gevolgen voor productie en levering.鈥� Dat zagen we bijvoorbeeld tijdens de coronacrisis, toen grote chiptekorten de aflevering van elektronica en nieuwe auto鈥檚 vertraagden.

Supplychains zijn suboptimaal

Volgens Marcel Bron, Head of Supply Chain Management bij SAP, kampen veel bedrijven met inflexibele en 鈥榮uboptimale鈥� supplychains. 鈥淓en belangrijke oorzaak is de afhankelijkheid van enkele productielocaties. Veel bedrijven hebben jarenlang zwaar ingezet op China als productieland. Dat leek effici毛nt, maar leidt tot grote problemen als importtarieven stijgen of routes worden verstoord. Daarom zien we nu een trend richting spreiding, met productielocaties in bijvoorbeeld Vietnam en Oost-Europa.鈥�

Daarnaast spelen geografische beperkingen een rol. 鈥淲anneer een bedrijf supplychains per regio organiseert zonder centraal overzicht, kunnen voorraden onnodig opstapelen鈥�, legt Bron uit. 鈥淕ebied A plaatst bestellingen terwijl gebied B het product op voorraad heeft. Dit leidt tot onnodig hoge kosten en kapitaalbeslag. Een centraal systeem dat realtime inzicht biedt in voorraden en distributie kan dit voorkomen, door de beschikbare voorraad effici毛nter te verdelen en onnodige bestellingen te vermijden.鈥�

Een ander struikelblok is technologie. 鈥淰eel bedrijven werken met verouderde IT-systemen die niet flexibel genoeg zijn om snel te schakelen鈥�, merkt Doomen op. 鈥淐loudsoftware biedt hier een oplossing.
