Kicking Off AI with 51风流Sports One /2024/02/ai-sap-sports-one-soccer-scouting-fc-bayern/ Thu, 01 Feb 2024 07:00:00 +0000 /?p=221974 51风流is expanding the 51风流Sports One solution with artificial intelligence (AI). In collaboration with the German professional soccer club Hertha BSC, AI-based automation of summaries and evaluations of scouting reports has been developed. Recently, 51风流also entered into an exchange with FC Bayern regarding a prototype of the new AI capabilities of 51风流Sports One.

Being a talent scout sounds like a dream job for many: travelling across the country to watch competitions in your favourite sport and being paid to do so. However, being a scout on the road means hard work. In addition to analyzing increasingly detailed statistical data — such as the number of overplayed players or the likelihood of increasing the goal count — players are scouted live at the stadium or from watching back videos.

Both the current performance and the potential of the player are portrayed as accurately as possible. The aim is to develop a comprehensive picture of the player incorporating team ability, mentality, and other important factors.

51风流Sports One: Get insights about your players and your team with real-time analytics

鈥淎t a professional club, a four-figure number of scouting reports can be generated during a season,鈥 Fadi Naoum, head of Sports and Entertainment at SAP, said at SPOBIS, the largest European sports business event, taking place in Hamburg on January 31 and February 1.

Naoum presented the new AI component for scouting at the conference.

鈥淪quad planners and chief scouts must summarize these reports in such a way that club management can make decisions based on them regarding who should be signed,” he shared. “This was previously a manual process, but now we have been able to extensively automate it, thanks to AI.鈥

With the help of AI in 51风流Sports One, decision-makers in the sports sector now have aggregated performance reports at the touch of a button, as well as comparisons between players. Transfer decisions can be now much faster and more informed.

Large Language Model for Automation

AI is used for the consolidation and targeted processing of unstructured data, which is mostly in natural language. It is capable of considering and processing not only different languages, but also different types of note-taking and writing styles. Behind the AI component for scouting is a large language model (LLM). This deep learning algorithm can perform tasks in the field of natural language processing (NLP).

鈥淲e currently use GPT from OpenAI, but we are also evaluating language models from other providers,鈥 Naoum said. 鈥淭he decisive advantage of the LLM is that commands can be given in natural language and can be varied according to language, text length, or target audience, as needed.鈥

In Brazil, for example, if a scout prepares manual reports for a specific player in Brazilian Portuguese, he can have the summary generated in German for the management of his German club.

“A typical command could be: ‘Compare the players x and y with regard to their strengths and weaknesses, write a summary and give a transfer recommendation, volume 100 words, answer in German’,” Naoum explained. “Depending on your preference, you can have the result presented as a flowing text or as a management summary.鈥

Co-Innovation Demonstrates Strength of Generative AI

In collaboration with Hertha BSC, a prototype was first created for the AI-based automated summary and evaluation of scouting reports in 51风流Sports One. This prototype was also presented to FC Bayern’s scouting department in order to obtain an initial opinion.

鈥淲e were impressed by the high quality of the results achieved automatically in 51风流Sports One using generative AI,鈥 commented Markus Pilawa, head of Scouting at FC Bayern. 鈥淲e expect huge time saving for us and, especially in the hectic transfer period, this can be another advantage for us.鈥

Timon Pauls, head of Squad Planning & Scouting at Hertha BSC, added: 鈥淭his co-innovation project has very clearly demonstrated the actual strengths of generative artificial intelligence. The player comparisons and summaries of scouting reports that can now be created ad-hoc will be very valuable for our squad planning. 鈥

In the near future, 51风流plans to also use AI technology to enrich the results of scouting reports with information from other sources, including data about matches from external data providers. Integrating AI capabilities into other components of 51风流Sports One, including performance diagnostics, training management, and match analysis, is also planned.

51风流Sports One with AI-powered scouting reporting is planned to be made available to customers worldwide in the second quarter of 2024.

51风流Sports One

51风流launched 51风流Sports One as a cloud solution in 2015. The athlete management solution and team performance platform covers all sporting processes. Various components support communication, team management, training and performance control, fitness and health management tracking, scouting, squad planning, performance diagnostics, match analysis, and preparing players for their next match.

In conjunction with 51风流Analytics Cloud, clubs can also evaluate a wide range of sports-related data delivered by specialized 51风流partners. 51风流Sports One is currently being used by 12 out of 18 German Bundesliga football clubs. 51风流also offers the solution for ice hockey, basketball, and handball.

Worldwide, 51风流Sports One supports more than 80 customers in 19 countries, including clubs such as FC Bayern and Hertha BSC, as well as TSG Hoffenheim and FC Sankt Pauli (Germany), BSC Young Boys Bern (Switzerland), Genoa CFC 1893 (Italy), Slavia Prague (Czech Republic), Leicester City (England), Vissel Kobe (Japan), SC Rasta Vechta (Germany, basketball), and the German Football Association.

51风流and the NHL Develop NHL Venue Metrics, a New Sustainability Platform to Help Reduce the League鈥檚 Ecological Impact /2022/10/sap-nhl-develop-nhl-venue-metrics/ Wed, 26 Oct 2022 11:01:24 +0000 /?p=200445 Given that more than , a key contributor to global climate change, are due to electricity and heat production, reducing the carbon footprint is one of the most effective ways to reduce global warming. To help lessen carbon footprint and mitigate the impact of global climate change, 51风流and the NHL have created a new platform called NHL Venue Metrics, powered by SAP.

This end-to-end, cloud-based platform developed by 51风流enables the NHL to measure and analyze the carbon footprint generated by its Clubs and arenas across various areas, including energy, water, waste, and recycling. These insights will allow the NHL to advance and achieve its sustainability objective of reducing its ecological impact where possible while ensuring the sport thrives for future generations.

The NHL determined that its Clubs鈥 venue operations comprise approximately 70% of the League鈥檚 overall carbon footprint. The League tasked 51风流to help find a technology solution that seeks to reduce its impact and protect the sport’s roots. The result was a data-driven platform that is available to all Clubs and their arena partners to transform and ultimately help to advance the League鈥檚 environmental sustainability objectives.

鈥淔or years the NHL has been on a journey to embed sustainable business practices across the League and its member Clubs,鈥 said Omar Mitchell, NHL Vice President of Sustainable Infrastructure and Growth Initiatives. 鈥淭he NHL Venue Metrics tool is a true game-changing innovation to help us understand our environmental impacts and create viable insights to improve our ecological impact.鈥

Click the button below to load the content from YouTube.

Helping to Reduce Hockey's Environmental Impact

NHL Venue Metrics consists of three main components:

  • Data Collection: An interface platform between the Clubs and their venue partners enables them to share relevant resource consumption and environmental data with the League.
  • Data Calculation and Validation: The processing and verification engine allows the League to track data consistency and identify reporting errors and calculation formulas to create the League鈥檚 carbon inventory.
  • Data Reporting and Insights: A visualization dashboard showcases relevant environmental, consumption, and financial insights at both the enterprise level and Club level of the various metrics that would inform the known carbon impacts of the NHL.

The technology behind NHL Venue Metrics, powered by SAP, derives powerful analytics from one of the most advanced databases, marking the League鈥檚 latest and extended use of 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP). Throughout the SAP/NHL partnership, 51风流BTP has been at the forefront of the League鈥檚 co-innovation efforts across multiple areas of their business. The operational data collected from Clubs will be processed using 51风流HANA Cloud and visualized with 51风流Analytics Cloud. Insights from the platform will support the NHL in identifying environmentally focused trends, sharing critical learnings shaped by those trends, and ultimately implementing best practices across Clubs to reduce the League鈥檚 collective ecological impact.

鈥淎t SAP, one of our priorities is providing partners with sustainable technology solutions so they can track and incorporate feasible goals for their business,鈥 said Amy Schulz, senior director of Global Sponsorships at SAP. 鈥淭he NHL is a longstanding co-innovation partner of ours. With its cloud software foundation built on 51风流BTP, we could not only develop a custom solution to meet its business objectives, but the solution will come at no cost to the Clubs. It鈥檚 a huge step forward as the NHL looks to decrease its carbon footprint and improve sustainable efficiencies.鈥

In September 2022, the NHL invited all Clubs and arena operators to use the platform and input historical data from 2018 through mid-2022 to analyze and identify an appropriate baseline. With the inputs from Clubs, the implementation of NHL Venue Metrics powered by 51风流is already underway this current season, helping the League get one step closer to a more sustainable operation.

Equestrian Dressage Goes Digital /2021/10/equestrian-dressage-goes-digital/ Fri, 15 Oct 2021 11:15:22 +0000 /?p=189114 Equestrian dressage is an art. It takes a skilled eye and a thorough understanding of horse training to see and appreciate the small nuances that turn a ride into a truly great performance. Despite the high level of mastery required for the discipline and the international audience it attracts, dressage long remained stuck in a traditional environment — until 51风流partner set out to shake up the status quo.

In dressage, horses must train for at least eight years before they compete in a top international class where they are scored by up to seven judges who provide marks on up to 37 elements of a performance. With complex and paper-based scoring, this process required dozens of support staff to note, collect, distribute, and calculate results. At times, official scores took longer to be announced than the competition took to move on to the next rider, limiting the experience for fans, commentators, and athletes alike.

As media interest declined and audience engagement reduced to die-hard enthusiasts, the need for digitalization became clear.

With the introduction of e-scoring, fan engagement apps, and a virtual training platform, Black Horse One has revolutionized equestrian sports since 2017.

Innovation Success Streak

Together with the and renowned dressage judge Katrina Wuest, Black Horse One collaborated with 51风流to develop and enhance a rich portfolio of innovative applications 鈥 based on 51风流HANA Cloud and powered by 51风流Business Technology Platform.

eDressage™ has successfully transformed paper-based processes into a digital and sustainable judging solution that enables real-time, on-the-go results. With digital scoresheets, freestyle flow analyses, standardized scoring, and a new dressage dashboard, users can compare the performance of horses at multiple events and from the perspective of different judges to identify areas for improvement.

The Spectator Judging庐 mobile app has tapped into audiences both on-site and at home for the first time, making fan engagement an integral part of the event. The app places users in the judging seat with the ability to co-score competitions alongside official judges and see predictions displayed in real-time on arena screens. The FEI has since adapted the concept to bring dressage into the world of fantasy sports via a dedicated ‘FEI eLeague’ for each FEI Dressage World Cup™ season.

鈥淐hoosing the 51风流Business Technology Platform for our central services meant that we efficiently and effortlessly scaled with the demand. Today, more than half of all international dressage shows use our solutions,鈥 said Daniel Goehlen founder of Black Horse One, alumni of the Technical University of Munich, and Grand Prix level dressage rider. 鈥淲e strive to provide additional value on top of the data already received, and with new possibilities arising through machine learning, we will help to bring even more stats and analytics to fans in creative ways.鈥

Training at Home with Expert Advice

When the pandemic hit, riders found themselves with few options to stay connected to the equestrian community or continue their training and development. Black Horse One and 51风流bridged this gap by introducing an online training platform called 鈥淓questrian on Demand鈥 to the FEI and various national federations. The platform allows athletes to upload videos of their rides for review by highly qualified judges and trainers worldwide. The valuable feedback attained has quickly evolved the tool into an invaluable companion for riders of all levels.

51风流employee Nadja Mayer recently had the opportunity to test the German National Federation (FN) version of the platform called 鈥淔N Level Up鈥 to receive training tips from her idol Ingrid Klimke, 51风流ambassador and Olympic champion.

鈥淚t was a great experience to seamlessly receive Ingrid鈥檚 virtual feedback on my showjumping. As a rider it鈥檚 amazing to know 51风流technology is also supporting my sports passions,鈥 Mayer says.

51风流Business Technology Platform Raises Equestrians to a New Level /2021/05/sap-btp-riding-simulator-new-level-equestrians/ Thu, 13 May 2021 11:15:48 +0000 /?p=185202 As an advocate of equestrian sport for almost 10 years, 51风流took another step to combine technology and sports with 51风流Business Technology Platform.

Equestrians training with the riding simulatorIn 2019, the , working with SAP, introduced the to its students and teachers 鈥 a robot horse that reproduces horses鈥 movements in virtual training sessions. The so-called 鈥淪ir Waldo鈥 is programmed to simulate several disciplines,听such as dressage, jumping, and cross-country riding, and closely examine the saddle’s weight distribution. Furthermore, it guides riders in positioning their legs and reins. This technical innovation is located in the 51风流Equestrian Experience Center that borders the RRV riding area. That way, it is easily accessible for club members.

By providing a controlled environment, beginners and professional equestrians get the chance to practice and improve their skills in a simulated training and competition setting. In close cooperation with professional trainers and guest lecturers, the riding club offers this new experience in various forms to a broad target group. The club also provides specific courses such as fear management and mental training for traumatized riders.

This kind of simulation is a pioneer project in Germany. It shows the desire of the RRV to innovate, offer its members the best possible conditions, develop as a riding club, and continuously improve riders鈥 skills.

Improving Training Analysis with 51风流Technology

The initial simulator only allowed for a small data set per riding session, which was available in a printed version. This document didn鈥檛 provide all the information users needed to determine further training behaviors. Users exhibited a strong demand for detailed training information to analyze their progress and potential learning gaps to inform long-term training plans.

To fully exploit the technical possibilities of the riding simulator, the 51风流Global Sponsorships team connected with and to design an extensive training app using .

Riding Simulator and 51风流BTP
Technical Realization of the Solution

Within two remote workshops, the 51风流team applied and gained knowledge about every critical aspect of the project, such as the technical framework of the Racewood Simulator, user needs, and first solution approaches. The project team identified the need to collect and summarize valuable data from the Racewood Simulator and transform it into understandable analysis visualization. To reach that goal, the team leveraged . With this technology, they could build the Riding Simulator Analysis Portal, the base of the application.

The future Web-based solution聽will provide detailed training data in four main categories: seating analysis, dressage, jumping, and cross-country riding. These classifications contain several vital facts, such as program analysis (balance, reins, thighs), freeriding, and progress. Thereby, users can track their riding proficiency in detail, identify areas of improvement, and better their skills efficiently. In addition, notes and homework can be saved by students and teachers.

To save individual training results and protect them from third parties, authentication and a single sign-on are guaranteed by and stored in 51风流Cloud Application Programming Model, based on .

Aileen Trunk, a rider at RRV, said, “The new 51风流training app gives both trainers and learners valuable insights and helps to optimize training across all disciplines聽鈥撀燿ressage, jumping and cross-country riding. I am now able to聽analyze my simulator sessions in detail with a wide range of possibilities. At any time, my trainer can prepare my units effectively and we can review and work on my short-term and long-term development together.鈥

Innovative Insights Available for NHL Coaches Through SAP-NHL Coaching Insights App for iPad /2021/04/sap-nhl-coaching-insights-innovative-coaches/ Thu, 29 Apr 2021 13:15:52 +0000 /?p=184851 Long-time partners 51风流and the NHL today unveiled new, significant enhancements to the SAP-NHL Coaching Insights mobile app for iPad. These upgrades stemmed from off-season workshops with all 31 NHL coaching staffs to further simplify the user experience, expand on critical metrics desired by coaches, and extend usability for deeper preparation before and after games.

The app, which is based on (51风流BTP) and powered by the , launched in 2019 and has continued its evolution since inception. This has led to a massive four-times increase in league-wide usage, further validating its reputation as an important coaching tool throughout the league.

According to Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan, 鈥淲e鈥檝e relied on technology more than ever during this pandemic to interact with players. Speaking to the app, the condensed schedule has presented an increased importance on managing our players鈥 workloads. Closely tracking 鈥楾ime on Ice鈥 and other metrics has been critical for us.鈥

Click the button below to load the content from YouTube.

51风流NHL Coaching Insights App

Now, coaching staffs for all 31 NHL teams can tap into unique new features in the app, such as:

  • 鈥淗ome Plate鈥 Customization: Every team has their own perspective on where the danger zones are around the net. This feature allows coaches to select one of five different variants of high-chance scoring areas to develop strategies and compare the team versus the opponent.
  • Head-to-Head Faceoff Matchup Planner: Coaches can cycle through potential matchups for each faceoff to isolate the best opportunities to win them. This functionality tracks players鈥 win/loss rates at different faceoff locations and against various opposition. There are even specific times during the game, such as icing, when a coach will know who the exact opponent will be; the Faceoff Matchup Planner provides coaches with real-time targeted data to assist in rapid decision-making.
  • Enhanced Game Trends/Analytics: Coaches can analyze detailed shot differential from key segments of each game, allowing for game trending capabilities to unlock insights within targeted momentum shifts.
  • Player Speed: NHL clubs will have insights to the total distance a player skates during the game and their top speed, so coaches can manage their player鈥檚 ice time throughout the game. Specific to speed and distance, the app can break it down into 10-second increments to help develop optimal shift lengths.
  • 24/7 Access: Now, the app is empowering coaches to better strategize prior to the game, make data-driven adjustments during the game, and analyze performance after the game. Usage data tells us that this expanded access is driving the increased adoption and coaches are watching their next opponent play, through the app, to help collect information and shape the game plan — even on off days.

Once puck tracking data is fully operational in the Puck and Player Tracking system, the following future enhancements are planned for integration into the SAP-NHL Coaching Insights app for iPad:

  • Puck Zone Time: Coaches will be able to display eight different variants of data, making it even more accurate to identify puck zone time. Also, coaches will be able to filter by player and periods of games.
  • Virtual Replay: New animations coming next season will visually simplify how coaches can see how the puck enters specific zones, along with greater details on the Xs and Os in terms of how the players either collapsed or prevailed during these pressure moments. Every game will be available to view in real time or in full-game replay.

And when tracking-enabled pucks are brought back on to the ice, paired with the NHL鈥檚 existing player tracking system, the full data processing capabilities of the will be recognized. As the processing engine, 51风流HANA Cloud will house, update, and translate a tremendous amount of new, actionable data in near real time to coaching staffs. In the future, as these advanced analytics become more mainstream, it is reasonable to expect an influx of new statistics for fans to consume on broadcasts, nhl.com/stats, and social media.

I predict a large number of unsung heroes, those that have excelled at the little things, to gain exposure from success in less obvious areas like zone-time effectiveness in offensive/defensive zones, and player +/- in zone-time possessions. As these technologies continue to advance, fans can expect to enjoy deeper insights and new statistical categories to rank, compare, and debate their favorite players in new ways — not to mention, the enjoyment of watching 鈥渢he fastest game on ice鈥 become even faster.

51风流and Sloane Stephens Foundation Empower the Next Generation of Tennis Players On and Off the Court /2021/03/sloane-stephens-foundation-empower-next-generation-tennis-players/ Thu, 04 Mar 2021 16:00:09 +0000 /?p=183537 Professional WTA player and U.S. Open Champion powerful play is felt both on the court and in the communities she supports. She first picked up a racket as a nine-year-old on the public courts of South Florida, recognizing from a young age the power of tennis and the happiness and confidence it can bring to players. However, it quickly dawned on her how the cost to play can create greater inequality and barriers.

As Stephens鈥 professional tennis career took off, she established the Sloane Stephens Foundation () in 2013 to create an impact in Compton, California, nearby where she regularly trains, as well as in the South Florida community where she first learned her life鈥檚 passion and still resides. The foundation provides educational opportunities and encourages healthy lifestyles for underserved youth to enable them to dream and achieve big, on and off the tennis court. SSF also strives to counter limiting factors such as inequitable academic opportunities, poverty, and community violence while cultivating a new generation of tennis players.

As a long-time partner of the Women鈥檚 Tennis Association (WTA), 51风流is joining forces with the foundation to create greater opportunity for all through a shared vision: believing that tennis and sport have the power to change lives, and that all kids deserve access to quality education and are capable of achieving incredible things when given the opportunity.

鈥淲hen I started playing tennis, I didn鈥檛 realize how expensive a racket or balls were. So I started the foundation to not only break down those financial barriers to a sport that鈥檚 always given me joy, but to also help kids live healthy lifestyles and have equal access to education through tutoring and mentorship,鈥 Stephens said. 鈥淚鈥檓 grateful to 51风流for joining us on this journey, providing invaluable resources to make a unique impact on youth in the South Florida and Compton communities.鈥

51风流will support the foundation by assisting with the formalization of a high-performance tennis program in South Florida and providing crucial program support to the existing Love, Love Compton program, as the team works to expand capacity during the safe return to in-person programming in order to combat learning loss.

鈥淪loane鈥檚 ambition for her foundation perfectly aligns with our core values and purpose 鈥 to improve people鈥檚 lives in our local and global communities,鈥 said Judith Williams, chief diversity and inclusion officer at SAP. 鈥淲e support SSF鈥檚 mission of fostering equality for all through quality education and overall health and well-being and we are honored to support SSF as they empower underserved youth to follow their dreams.鈥

Since inception, 100% of SSF students have graduated high school and successfully gone on to a two- or four-year higher-education institution. Additionally, 100% of summer camp students have maintained or improved their grade-level reading abilities. However, COVID-19 has shaken the status quo of the education system. Everything from lacking reliable WiFi to not having a device or parents at home to help navigate video conferencing makes existing inequities even more significant.

鈥淎s the world moves forward and continues to recover, it is crucial that no one is left behind,鈥 said SSF Executive Director Dr. Sybil Smith, Ed.D. 鈥51风流understands the importance of putting people first and will not only help us combat learning loss but also create opportunity through learning and development for all.鈥

Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team Unveils Its Secret to Racing Success https://www.sap.com/about/company/global-sponsorships.html Wed, 17 Feb 2021 17:15:38 +0000 /?p=183200 Every second counts in the business world. When fractions of moments determine success, technology can step in to help win the race 鈥 quite literally. One company that knows firsthand the importance of speed, both on the racetrack and off, is the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team.

In more than 125 years of racing, Mercedes-Benz has created its first electric racing team known as the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team. Driven by innovation and sustainability, this electrifying team is fully equipped to deliver a new generation of electric race cars and leverage the technology used on the racetrack to help deliver more practical and clean electric cars on our streets.

Technology Wins the Race

Leading the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team is Team Principal Ian James, who recently appeared on . Joined by host Abadesi Osunsade, the two dive deep in a conversation about leveraging technology to gain that competitive advantage that is crucial when competing on the track.

鈥淲e are genuinely a startup,鈥 James says, 鈥渨hich means to get that competitive edge, it鈥檚 incredibly important that we really look after every detail, and technology very much helps us do that.鈥

Choosing the right technology to do so was important to the team鈥檚 success. The Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team went with 51风流S/4HANA to improve operational speed and agility, all while keeping the team connected throughout various parts of the world.

But this technology is helping the team win in more ways than just on the racetrack.

James points out, 鈥淎lthough the focus is very much on our on-track performance, there are other aspects to the organization that we need to look after as well.鈥

Just as important to the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team are their fans. With technology capable of collecting and analyzing fan feedback, the team can be sure to create the best fan experience possible to keep their supporters engaged, excited, and ready to win.

Controlling the Controllable

Osunsade asks, 鈥淚s there anything that happened this year that might鈥檝e been impossible if you weren鈥檛 able to use this technology?鈥

鈥淗ad we not had the systems that we鈥檝e set up with 51风流S/4HANA, enabling us to work in four different locations around the world, we would almost be in a position where it鈥檇 be impossible to function,鈥 James answers.

As a leader of the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team, James has stressed to the team the importance of focusing on the factors they can control: 鈥淲hat I try and do is make sure that they have the tools to be able to control the controllable. When we do have a success and when we win like we did in Berlin, it’s pretty euphoric and a very privileged position to be in.鈥

Game, Set, Stat! 51风流Announces Kamau Murray as Newest 51风流Ambassador /2021/02/kamau-murray-newest-sap-ambassador/ Tue, 02 Feb 2021 14:00:34 +0000 /?p=182689 Ahead of next week鈥檚 Australian Open, 51风流is thrilled to partner with Kamau Murray, the brand鈥檚 newest tennis ambassador. Murray has had an incredible journey to become one of the top coaches in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) today.

Growing up in Chicago, Murray was an active participant in Chicago Park District tennis programs, learning firsthand the value of introducing athletics at an early age to instill sportsmanship, strong work ethics, self-confidence, and peer interaction, along with other important life lessons. He excelled in this environment and was subsequently offered a full scholarship to play tennis at Florida A&M University.

In 2004, Murray returned to his early roots by offering tennis lessons to children. He knew that there was a continued need for a program within local communities.

Four years later, he became the founder of XS Tennis and Education Foundation. Today, XS Tennis continues to transform many lives by combining Murray鈥檚 passions for tennis and education. Murray鈥檚 initial five students have gone on to win national championships, IHSA state championships, and two Junior Olympic Gold medals, while 100% of the program鈥檚 graduating seniors have received college tennis scholarships to top universities.

Kamau Murray

Murray鈥檚 community work and reputation for growing youth into top college tennis players later caught the attention of rising star Sloane Stephens, which created a new path for him to become a WTA coach. In 2017, Murray coached Stephens to an historic US Open title, where he become only the third African American coach to win a grand slam in its 95-year history.

To celebrate the start of this new partnership, 51风流caught up with Kamau Murray to discuss his passion for tennis, his experiences coaching Sloane Stephens, and the importance of technology and analytics in today鈥檚 game.

Q: You started playing tennis at the early age of seven in the inner city of Chicago. Can you tell us what motivated you to pick up the racket and play?

A: In 1998, my parents took 20 youth to Africa for a cultural exchange program. When we returned to the United States, all the summer camps and programs were full and not accepting students. My godfather was an avid tennis player and told my mom that the camp at Jesse Owens Park was still accepting. My mom quickly drove by the park to inquire. She asked the coach what the cost was for the rest of the summer. When the coach told her it was only $12, I remember her quickly turning around and saying, 鈥淏oy get out of the car.鈥

Once I got a taste of the game that summer, I became hooked and continued playing five days a week during the school year. From that point on, tennis became a major part of my life and provided me with a unique identity.

You certainly are driven on and off the court. In 2005, you founded the XS Tennis program to help Chicago鈥檚 underserved youth through a community-based academic, sports enrichment program. What is your biggest accomplishment thus far with the XS program?

By far our biggest accomplishment is the students who have gone on to earn tennis scholarships to college. I witnessed firsthand the impact a college education can have on children in urban communities. I also understand that once you get on campus it’s hard to stay there.

When a student earns a scholarship, they gain access to all the benefits that come with that, including free tutoring, a coach, and an athletic department that monitors graduation rates and GPAs. That support system is critical. To date, more than 55 students from XS have been able to play tennis at the collegiate level with access to a strong support system.

In addition to our students playing tennis in college, we have also touched the lives of more than 1,000 students for four years in a row. There are more youth playing tennis on the south side of Chicago than ever before. I strongly believe that for tennis to grow globally, the growth needs to come from the minority community specifically. It鈥檚 our greatest challenge, but it’s also our biggest opportunity.

This isn鈥檛 your first-time coaching Sloane. What makes your partnership so special on and off the court?

I think the key to any successful partnership is trust on and off the court. My partnership with Sloane got off to a great start in 2016 when she won three tournaments in four months. Previously she had only won one title in her career.

I witnessed how tough she was and how well she handled the pressure in those finals. I also saw her ability to execute a plan, at times where a lot of players just revert to their lifelong tendencies. Those three quick titles allowed me to gain her trust a lot sooner than expected. Sloane knows that any advice or coaching I provide is well informed.

What has kept us together for so long is our ability to make the work and the travel fun. Tennis has the longest season of any sport, so if you don鈥檛 like the person, you will not be able to stand each other for 32 weeks of the year.

What is your overall view of technology innovation in sport and more specifically in tennis? In the future, what technology would help you even more as a coach?聽

The use of 鈥渋n-game鈥 technology and immediate feedback allows tennis players to adjust quicker, creating closer matches, which ultimately makes our sport more fun to watch. On the women鈥檚 side, you now see a lot of coaches using tablets and stats on the sideline. If you couple that with the allowed on-court coaching visits, we are seeing a lot of younger players having success earlier because they are now able to access coaching that closes the gap between them and the veteran opponents on the other side of the net. That can be 100% attributed to the immediate value from technology and statistics. It has created a few unlikely champions. The other part of this is that the veteran players who have played a lot of matches on big stadium courts equipped with all the cameras and technology have more data points for the younger players to study.

From a training perspective, technology has taken a lot of the guesswork away. Historically, players would condition their bodies to get in good general shape without knowing exactly what that means. Now, the data can tell you how many miles are run during a match and how many feet are run during an average point so you can train your body to perform at that level in a more precise fashion.

In post-match coaching situations, technology makes these conversations easier for both parties. In the past, the player says: 鈥淚 feel I did this,鈥 and the coach says: 鈥淚 feel like you did that鈥 鈥 oftentimes resulting in a back-and-forth dialogue that lasts well into the next day. Now, 51风流data is available immediately and by the time the player gets done showering, the conversation and adjustments will be based on fact, and less on feelings.

What鈥檚 next on the horizon for you?

In 2021, my primary goal is to help Sloane return to the top 20. Innovation doesn鈥檛 only come in the form of technology. Players also must innovate and develop new skills to change alongside a sport that changes every six months. From year to year, the rackets are becoming more powerful, the balls are getting heavier, strings are creating more spin. My goal this year is to continue to add little innovations to Sloane鈥檚 game.

Secondly, as an 51风流ambassador, my goal is to continue to innovate with the WTA and 51风流to increase usage of data insights available to all players and coaches.

I am thrilled to work more closely with the WTA to continue to make the game more accessible and more attractive, and to reach a broader audience. They say the tide rises all ships. The more we can grow the participation and popularity of the sport, the better it becomes for everyone.

Black History Month

Black History Month, observed each year during the month of February, celebrates the contributions Black people have made to American history and culture and recognizes Black Americans鈥 struggle for equality. This federally acknowledged observance recognizes the meaningful endeavors of Black Americans and strengthens all Americans鈥 understanding of the contributions, complexity, and struggles Black people continue to face while shaping our nation鈥檚 history.

A Champion for Equality

, an elite player on the PGA TOUR, seeks to address the underrepresentation of Black people and people of color in the workforce and foster a culture of equality in golf and in society at large. Champ is no stranger to the challenges Black people have faced in America. His late grandfather, Mack Champ, was a phenomenal, self-taught golfer but was never able to do more than caddie because of the color of his skin. He serves as a champion for equality, diversity, and inclusion and recognizes the critical role of the private sector in influencing societal change.

Powered by SAP, Champ鈥檚 participation in three upcoming golf tournaments 鈥 the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Genesis Invitational, and WGC Championship 鈥 will give him the opportunity to raise money for four Black-owned businesses close to his heart. Each week Champ will play in support of one of the businesses, and if his driving distance averages 320 yards during the tournament 51风流will donate US$10,000 to that week鈥檚 business.

The agenda offered a vibrant mix of themes and formats that shared compelling insights into how 51风流solutions are being used in practice right now.

51风流Customer Checkout: The Ultimate Fan Experience

The forum began with a recap of 2020, the 鈥渃oronavirus year,鈥 featuring a series of presentations that reflected on the last 12 months from the perspective of 51风流and its customers, the challenges the sports and entertainment industry has faced, and the solutions developed to overcome them. Day two offered deeper dives into 51风流technology and solutions. Alongside presentations on loyalty management, fan engagement, and the fan experience, there was a virtual panel discussion devoted to the effects of the pandemic, approaches to dealing with them, and the lessons learned. In addition, selected customers reported on how 51风流Sports One has helped them throughout the pandemic; Christopher Heimeroth, head of the license player department at Bundesliga soccer club Borussia M枚nchengladbach, was among those who provided valuable insights.

The remaining event days were devoted chiefly to showcases for various 51风流solutions. Participants watched a range of presentations and demos about optimizing team management and about the latest features in 51风流Customer Checkout for sports and event venues, retail, and catering. In a session focusing on player fitness in professional sport, speakers presented best practices for planning and documenting medical events in 51风流Sports One. There was also a demonstration of how 51风流Sports One and 51风流Analytics Cloud together are helping English Premier League club Leicester City FC operate efficiently and cut player downtimes. The final showcase at this year鈥檚 event looked at how digitalizing processes and making intelligent use of data is helping professional sports clubs minimize costs and optimize revenues.

51风流Sports One: Update 2020

Positive Feedback

The response to the event, which provided five days of concentrated input about innovations and trends in the sports and entertainment industry, was consistently positive.

鈥淒espite its virtual format, the 51风流Sports and Entertainment Forum was once again a must-attend event for industry insiders,鈥 said Sebastian Zelichowski from the Eintracht Frankfurt Fussball AG, 鈥淭he great mix of presentations, networking sessions, and information-packed discussions gave compelling insights into how 51风流solutions are being used in the real world. It also highlighted how data can be used to optimize efficiency, performance, and the fan experience in the sports and entertainment sector and create new opportunities.鈥

The 10th 51风流Sports and Entertainment Forum took place in unprecedented conditions.

Three Questions for Fadi Naoum, Head of Sports and Entertainment at SAP

Q: What was different in 2020?

A: The coronavirus pandemic has obviously brought about many changes this year and confronted us with all kinds of new challenges. More than any other, the sports and entertainment industry depends on the fan experience at live events. Coronavirus meant we had to be creative and work closely with our customers and partners. I鈥檓 proud of the range of compelling alternative solutions we鈥檝e developed to compensate, at least partially, for the loss of that vital fan experience.

Q: Why is an event like this still relevant?

A: The 51风流Sports and Entertainment Forum, now in its 10th year, has become an important date in the industry鈥檚 calendar. The positive response we received to this year鈥檚 virtual format proves to us that the event works well in the digital world too. That鈥檚 significant, because in the situation we face right now, it鈥檚 becoming clearer than ever that technology and innovations provide stability in turbulent times and pave the way to finding new solutions.

Q: What do you hope for going forward?

A: Like most of us, I of course hope that sports activities can return to normal as soon as possible, so that our sportspeople and coaches can get back to doing what they do best, and fans can experience live sports once again. Until that time, we at 51风流will support our customers as best we can in leveraging our technologies in effective and viable ways.

Be Our Virtual Guest: Experience How 51风流Transforms Sports /2020/10/sap-virtual-sports-showcase-worldwide-partnerships/ Wed, 28 Oct 2020 13:15:08 +0000 /?p=180111 This year, many sports events have been cancelled due to COVID-19. Under these circumstances, 51风流searched for new ways to inspire and engage customers, partners, and sports fans.

New Sports Showcase: Be a virtual guest and experience how 51风流transforms sports

Here are a few examples of how 51风流technology transforms sports:

Soccer: Supporting Match Analysts to Detect Relevant Match Scenes聽

Before a game, match analysts research opponents to support the coaching team in creating the most effective match plan. But instead of having to watch endless hours of matches to manually find relevant scenes that show the typical behaviors of opponents, clubs like TSG Hoffenheim rely on 51风流technology to simplify this task.

Ice Hockey: Real-Time Decision Support for NHL Coaches

Ice hockey is an extremely fast-paced sport with players constantly moving around on the ice. It can be difficult for the coach to decide on player substitutions or who should be nominated for a faceoff or shootout. Gut feeling often plays a part in the coaches鈥 decision. But since the 2019 season, NHL coaches have been able to factor in real-time statistics and data about each player.

Equestrian: Allowing Spectators to Jump into the Judge’s Seat

There is more to watching sports than shouting and clapping that actively involves spectators. The audience at equestrian events such as CHIO Aachen can judge the artistic impression and difficulty of the rider鈥檚 dressage and compare their scores with those awarded by the official competition judges.

Tennis: Underpin Coaches鈥 Gut Feelings with Facts

The Women鈥檚 Tennis Association (WTA) allows coaches to use 51风流Analytics solutions during match play to help inform coaching decisions. Coaches use the 51风流application to analyze players鈥 on-court performance with serves, aces, break points, and ground strokes. To prepare a player in advance of a match, coaches can view insights into patterns in a player鈥檚 match play tendencies. In other words, they can view how a player may react in various match situations.

Esports: Supporting Team Liquid with Hero Selection

In the popular Esports game Dota 2, two teams of five players compete in real time against each other. Before the battle, each player chooses a unique hero out of over 110 options, with each hero possessing a unique set of abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Drafting the right hero is therefore a crucial part of the game. Team Liquid, a world-renowned professional gaming organization, uses 51风流Analytics to help with hero selection 鈥 from 26.8 quadrillion unique combinations of heroes per match.

Sailing: Creating Digital Representations of Sailing Regattas

Often, those attending sailing competitions cannot tell which boat is in the lead because the action takes place offshore, miles away from spectators. Now, however, sensor-based tracking and wind measurement systems enable fans to experience digital 3D and 2D visualizations of sailing regattas, even if the competitors are out of sight. In addition, fans can analyze boat maneuvers, relive great performances, and view live race results.

While these examples highlight sports, there are many parallels between sports and business. Both face similar challenges 鈥 from creating digital representations and using advanced analytics to support decision-making, to identifying patterns and making predictions to continuously adapt to changing environments.

51风流Launches New Mobile App for Global Sailing Community to Create Races and Access Live Tracking Data /2020/10/sap-syrf-launch-new-mobile-app-for-global-sailing-community-races-live-data-tracking/ Tue, 06 Oct 2020 08:00:28 +0000 /?p=176462 WALLDORF 鈥 (NYSE: SAP) and partner (SYRF) today announced the launch of Sail Insight, a new mobile app designed for the global sailing community. The user-friendly app allows users to create, track and manage their own races and provides live data and analytics to improve performance and training.

The app is available for download on and and has been endorsed by World Sailing, the world鈥檚 governing body for the sport of sailing.

Historically, tracking and analyzing live sailing action has been cost prohibitive for many sailors, coaches and race organizers and has made events and regattas invisible to fans watching from shore. Now, Sail Insight can be used at thousands of regattas and training races around the world to benefit various sailing audiences and the sport overall. Clubs and race organizers can create their own races and provide live tracking for teams, participants and fans. Sailors can access live leaderboards and live race performance data. Coaches can base their tips and instructions on training and in-race tracking analytics, and fans can use their own devices to follow sailors and teams during races.

The Sail Insight mobile app is available for free through 2020. The free version of the app will allow users to test all features, create a sailor profile, participate in regattas, conduct self-tracking, share results and send invitations on social media. In 2021, the app will shift to offer both free access and a subscription-based model, which will unlock additional features.

The app utilizes , the world鈥檚 largest and most robust sailing database. It provides insights and transparency using cloud and in-memory technology, processing GPS and wind measurement data in real time. For the first time, 51风流is bringing the capabilities of 51风流Sailing Analytics to the broader sailing community by introducing, together with SYRF, the new Sail Insight mobile app.

鈥淪ince 2011, 51风流has been a trusted partner and innovation leader across the sport of sailing, creating solutions that improve performance for sailors, teams and race organizers while also growing fan interest and participation,鈥 51风流Chief Technology Officer and Executive Board Member Juergen Mueller said. 鈥淭he new app leverages the power of our sailing analytics database to create a mobile app that allows members of the sailing community to access data and information to help improve performance and enhance their race and event experience.鈥

The app provides sailors, coaches, clubs and fans with live data and analytics beyond professional one-design racing into other forms of sailing including big boat formula, performance cruiser and club regattas. Users for the first time can access live leaderboards and handicap racing leaderboards for live predictive handicap scoring. When clubs, sailors or coaches set up races from the app, they also can share a link with other participants and fans to follow along.

鈥淲e are thrilled to be working with 51风流to help grow sailing worldwide,鈥 SYRF Technical Director Larry Rosenfeld said. 鈥淭he technology and capabilities that 51风流bring are tremendous, and together with our board鈥檚 lifetime of work in the sport, we believe we can make progress even faster together by introducing and getting feedback from the community now.鈥

Unique Educational Project Scores Big with Young Soccer Fans /2020/09/digital-youngsters-workshop-tsg-hoffenheim/ Wed, 30 Sep 2020 12:15:38 +0000 /?p=178878 What do soccer and efforts to promote digital skills in young people have in common? TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. A leading innovator in German soccer, the Bundesliga club recently kicked off Digital Youngsters Workshop, a remarkable initiative combining enthusiasm for the sport with methods of teaching the digital basics. You could say that the children and teenagers who attended were introduced to the latter subject in a 鈥済amified鈥 way.

Today, most youth are already digital natives who know their way around smartphones, social media, and the like. The Digital Youngsters Workshop was therefore designed to reinforce their routine use of these tools with knowledge of how digital content is created in the first place.

Click the button below to load the content from YouTube.

TSG Hoffenheim & SAP: Digital Youngsters Workshop

One Team, One Goal

The team behind the workshop comprises dedicated employees of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, representatives from the digitally minded non-governmental organization (NGO) Junge T眉ftler, the 51风流Global Sponsorships team, and 51风流volunteers who were brought on board through the company鈥檚 corporate social responsibility (CSR) team. In putting the Digital Youngsters Workshop together, they combined their particular skills to come up with something truly new.

One thing that made sense was working with soccer metaphors. The jargon of the sport would be like a second language to TSG鈥檚 young players and a real advantage in teaching subjects that are largely technical in nature.

The event itself was geared toward ages nine to 16, with members of the TSG Hoffi fan club and the TSG Youngsters team. In keeping with an old German saying, it was going to take 11 friends 鈥 or three teams with that many players each, which was the limit for this edition of the workshop.

A Hat Trick of Learning Modules

Attendees had the chance to work on three learning modules based around terms taken straight from the soccer field.

The Teamwork module focused on cooperation and primarily involved coding together, particularly in the context of apps. By the end of the module, the players had put together a ready-to-use survey app. The second module, Tactics, was about using the workshop鈥檚 core topic 鈥 digital skills 鈥 as a key strategic instrument. Through coding, virtual reality, and the creation of 3D models, the participants then had opportunities to discuss the key subjects in this area. This was meant as a prelude to dreaming up and designing the 鈥渟tadium of the future.鈥 It also laid a visual foundation for the third module, Fun & Games. Here, the players used coding, Calliope mini microcontrollers, and ultrasonic sensors to create something entirely new: a wastebasket that let out a hearty cheer when someone made a shot with a piece of garbage.

51风流volunteers attended two training sessions at the beginning of August, then the three-day workshop took place on August 31 and September 2 and 4. It proved to be time well spent in terms of both learning and having fun for all those who attended, and the materials, technology, and tools used were big reasons why. The open-source software BigBlueButton, for example, presented the learning material in visually appealing ways while providing the necessary webcam support. It also made it possible to communicate with several virtual rooms at once, so event organizers did not have to worry about lulls in the action 鈥 every phase was sure to be dynamic.

A special highlight included two surprise guests: On day one, attendees were joined by Hoffenheim midfielder Franziska Harsch, then goalkeeper Philipp Pentke joined the closing festivities to answer their burning questions.

Match-Ready Thanks to a Jam-Packed Box

Several weeks before the workshop itself, training camp started for the participants. Each was sent a Digital Youngsters Workshop Box containing microcontrollers, other electronic components, corresponding arts and crafts materials, and even the right outfit for the event, a Digital Youngsters shirt.

According to the 51风流employees involved, things could hardly have gone better. They were very excited as the workshop grew nearer, especially for the 鈥渟tadium of the future鈥 component, and hoped to learn something along the way themselves. One volunteer had previously worked as a teacher and thus had a fairly good idea of what to expect.

Video Conferencing and One-on-One Coaching Over Chat

During the workshop, the young participants were open-minded and eager to learn. They were also happy to take advantage of the support offered by the mentors. Along with the main video conference, one-on-one chat assistance was available to make sure no one was left warming the bench. 鈥淎n attentive and engaged atmosphere, solid ideas, and very good results鈥: As this summary indicates, the 51风流coaches were quite satisfied with the proceedings.

The coaches also emphasized just how well the children were already coping with the demands of the digitalized world, especially after attending the workshop. The initiators succeeded in achieving exactly what they had set out to do: show young people that instead of merely consuming content, they can create and shape it themselves using certain fundamental skills. Whether in the digital realm or out on the field, being part of the action isn鈥檛 just more fun; it plays an essential role in leading the life you want in an ever-changing world.

Fit for the Future

鈥淧articularly when it comes to getting ready for what鈥檚 ahead, innovative projects like this are highly relevant to society,鈥 pointed out Denni Strich, managing director of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, responsible for communication and media, sales and marketing, and digital performance at the club. 鈥淭he goal is to take a committed and systematic approach to encouraging young people and introducing them to this kind of material in fun ways. This extraordinary project was very ambitious from the start. Looking back, it really was extremely successful.鈥

鈥淭he Digital Youngsters Workshop gave us the chance to get a glimpse of the future together,鈥 Pia Regine, in charge of programs for children, teenagers, and schools at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, added. 鈥淲e all want to prepare our kids for the world of tomorrow as best we can, of course, and I鈥檓 glad we succeeded in this very special endeavor. All the members of each squad had a lot of fun and learned plenty of new things in the process. We hope we can put something similar together for next year.鈥

The Digital Youngsters Workshop demonstrated one thing in particular: Like a neat one-two from Kramari膰 to Baumgartner, Hoffenheim and 51风流managed to connect soccer to digital skills in a creative way that really resonated with all those involved. With that, it is safe to say that everyone would be up for a rematch next season!

How 51风流Helps CHIO Aachen and the International Equestrian Community Stay Connected /2020/08/digital-chio-aachen-connected-international-equestrian-community/ Mon, 03 Aug 2020 14:00:19 +0000 /?p=177322 The equestrian community, like many other sports ecosystems, is suffering from the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Riders, horses, and their coaches are not allowed to meet and tournaments around the world have been cancelled.

This was no different for CHIO Aachen, the World Equestrian Festival in Germany and a long-standing sports partner event for SAP.

It has also had an impact on equestrian fans and equestrian businesses, which are no longer traveling to the major equestrian competitions that for many are the main source of connection with the equestrian community.

What is unique about the international equestrian community is that the connections within this sport are built almost exclusively on the circuit of international shows each year. To help and the wider community stay connected, 51风流and some long-trusted equestrian development partners reacted quickly and built a completely new digital setup for riders, coaches, and fans.

鈥淲e normally meet our partners and demonstrate our fan technology at events such as CHIO Aachen and, in 2020, it looked as though that was not going to be possible,鈥 says Henrike Paetz, director of Strategic Partnerships in Equestrian for eXperience SAP. 鈥淭his felt like a problem for a wider group because the shows really are the glue that ties the community together —聽 a tightly knit international ecosystem that includes the athletes, organizers, volunteers, commentators, media, judges, owners, scoring teams, sponsors, and many more.鈥

Within weeks, 51风流and partners , Black Horse One, and others had adapted their traditional delivery of services and created tools to ease the issue of disconnection and demonstrate how sports disciplines can adapt to new circumstances and engage with each other in a digital environment.

At the same time, CHIO Aachen decided to go digital. Together with 51风流and its partners, it turned the 鈥淐oncours Hippique International Officiel鈥 into the 鈥淐oncours Hippique International Online,鈥 taking place August 4鈥9, 2020.

The absence of live competition presented the biggest challenge, but using the latest 51风流Predictive Analytics software allows event organizers to offer a simulated Eventing competition, with perhaps the best field ever seen. This outstanding concept provides the excitement of live competition with the key stories around the event derived from the predictions and presented in dedicated online shows by a professional commentary team.

Dubbed 鈥淐hampion of Champions,鈥 the new format brings together CHIO Aachen’s top finishers from 2006 through to 2019, plus some wildcards from the top 10 who gained their place via fan voting. The field is based on the data and strengths of each combination at the time of their Aachen finish. For example, based on 2006 data, Clayton Fredericks and Ben Along Time will be competing against Laura Collett and Rayef, based on 2012 data, all the way through to Ingrid Klimke and 51风流Hale Bob in 2019. Twenty combinations were selected based on their previous Aachen finishes.

The simulated Eventing competition will take place on Friday, August 7, at 3:00 p.m. BST / 10:00 a.m. ET (dressage) and Saturday, August 8, at 2:00 p.m. BST / 9:00 a.m. ET (jumping phases).

To include the fans even more in the digital CHIO Aachen, the new adds the concept of fantasy sports to the simulated competitions. Available as a free download from the app stores, it allows fans to become a virtual manager and select their own 鈥渄ream team鈥 of four based on a dedicated budget. The market prices for the riders are driven by their win probabilities derived from the 鈥51风流Prediction Center,鈥 a new statistical model that calculates both before and during a competition how riders are likely to score and what their chances of winning are. They can use the app to play against their friends in their own private leagues, compete for their country in the League Challenge, and join featured leagues of various brands and organizations for even more chances to win great prizes. The app is fully built on 51风流technology such as 51风流Cloud Platform, 51风流HANA, 51风流Predictive Analytics, and Experience Management solutions from 51风流and Qualtrics.

Also available in Aachen is . This paperless scoring solution, developed by and with partner Black Horse One, allows unrivaled real-time scoring.

鈥淓specially in these challenging times, eDressage allows for effective social distancing, a significant reduction of risks by more than halving the number of people necessary to do dressage scoring,鈥 explains Daniel G枚hlen, managing director of Black Horse One. 鈥淏efore COVID-19, it was already the most popular scoring solution for dressage, and we are proud that is has proven even more valuable at CHIO Aachen.鈥

Additionally, spectators can become active as well and jump into the judge鈥檚 seat with the Spectator Judging Fan Engagement App powered by 51风流in cooperation with the CHIO Aachen.

Along with the digital CHIO Aachen event in 2020, a groundbreaking Virtual Training and Feedback Platform has been developed and implemented together with Black Horse One in record time, helping both the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) and the German National Federation (FN) provide a digital channel for their athletes. It facilitates the upload of videos, review, commentary, official scoring, and related communication between all parties. Further National Federations are currently in the process of adopting the system as well. 51风流will leverage the platform to run the annual 鈥淚ngrid Klimke Training Event鈥 as a virtual experience later in the year.

As an additional virtual meeting point, the campaign and platform uses 51风流technology to connect riders, fans, and business of the equestrian world. The campaign has its own Website that features video updates, training tips, and blogs from the best athletes in the world. It is updated daily and fans use the #ridersconnected hashtag to stay involved.

鈥淭he campaign is about giving people a base, a home, while we are without the normal mechanisms for staying in touch,鈥 says Diarmuid Byrne, managing director of EquiRatings. 鈥淚f we can help in any way to bring people closer, the campaign will be serving its purpose.鈥

Being physically apart can be difficult. But riders, fans, and friends from the equestrian community — in every country and at every level — know the importance of staying connected and supporting each other.

The combined efforts of SAP, CHIO Aachen, and their equestrian partners have shown how technology can help maintain these connections, even in times of crisis.

Sports Are Back, But the Stats Never Stopped /2020/07/sap-nhl-coaching-insights-sports-stats/ Thu, 23 Jul 2020 11:15:36 +0000 /?p=176925 COVID-19 has not only sent a shock wave through health, society, and the global economy; it has wreaked havoc on the sports we love. The coronavirus doesn鈥檛 care when sports come back, but fans sure do. Shutdowns have affected everyone in many ways 鈥 some harder than others.

But the sheer desperation for sports to return, is weighing on all. Sports unite across age, race, gender, and economic lines. They provide hope, emotional release, and at times a much needed escape. Fortunately, the wait appears to be over.

The 2020 Stanley Cup庐 Qualifiers are scheduled to start on August 1, after a two-week training camp and a round of exhibition games. The resumption of training camp will help players to prepare their bodies to excel during the rigors of the fastest game on ice, as each team looks to make a deep run toward the Stanley Cup. Given this unsettling year of turmoil and much more time spent at home, away from training facilities, it will be interesting to see which players come back stronger and faster.

#HockeyAtHome went viral during the pause, with short videos from players to showcase how they have been uniquely training in new ways. This presented an exciting opportunity to continue sharing the , which is changing the way that coaches make decisions during games. Aside from in-game analytics that coaches can access, fans alike can customize their own sets of metrics on .

51风流x NHL: Stats Never Stop鈥

51风流has teamed up with a few superstars because the best never stop working on their game 鈥 and we did not want to stop tracking their performances either.

  • Tyler Seguin, Dallas Stars™ leader in face-off win percentage (58.2): Kept his concentration and quickness by competing against his dogs! He first held a preliminary tournament with each of his three pups battling each other, at the drop of a dog treat. Gerry beat both of his four-legged siblings, scored all the Scooby snacks and won the honor of battling his dad and NHL All-Star. It was a ferocious battle, but Tyler won two out of three. Though Gerry might argue that he was full by then.
  • Brad Marchand, Boston Bruins庐 assist leader (59): Teamed up with his son to keep his precision passing skills on point. What the video does not show is that his son checked him down the hill to keep dad鈥檚 head on a swivel too.
  • Matthew Tkachuk, power forward for the Calgary Flames庐 (122 hits): Shared some quarantine time with his brother Brady, also a known thumper for the Ottawa Senators, as they released some pent-up aggression playing basketball against each other.

The NHL鈥檚 Return to Play Plan, which includes the 2020 Stanley Cup Qualifiers and Stanley Cup Playoffs, will take place in two hub cities, Edmonton (Rogers Place) and Toronto (Scotiabank Arena). Both arenas are technologically equipped to support the coaching app and help ensure that every data point is decisively processed through 51风流Cloud Platform directly to iPads.

Ultimately, it is difficult to predict the champion, as each team will need to grind its way to the Stanley Cup. But execution will become clear, because the stats will never stop.

FC Bayern Munich Perfects the Fan Experience with Digital Solutions /2020/07/fc-bayern-munich-fan-experience-solutions/ Wed, 22 Jul 2020 12:15:09 +0000 /?p=176874 For sports clubs, the traditional sources of income are ticket sales, sponsorships, merchandise sales, and broadcast rights. But are there additional growth opportunities? How can their portfolios be expanded? Germany鈥檚 FC Bayern Munich was confronted with this challenge.

For the club, the answer was clear: Opportunities lie in the close connection between club and fans, and digitalization makes it possible.

It is all about being able to offer the fans an all-around satisfying experience beyond the sport itself. To achieve this, the club must also build a bond with its supporters outside the stadium and create additional experiences for them. Software solutions are the ideal tools to help clubs understand and service the needs of their fans.

FC Bayern Munich: Improve the Fan Experience with Digital Solutions

360-Degree View of the Fans and Comprehensive Analysis

It was not an easy task for the team from Munich to consistently align all existing processes to ensure a great fan experience. The previous approach of using the best possible IT solution in each of the various areas had resulted in customer data within FC Bayern being scattered in over 50 different systems and not being integrated with each other. The first step was therefore to bring together member, customer, and fan data in a uniform environment.

This was made possible by based on 51风流HANA.

“All our customer data is now combined in a ‘Golden Fan Record.’ This provides us with insight into more than 250 fan attributes and enables us to create target group-specific content, services, and marketing campaigns, for example, for fan merchandise,” explains Stefan Mennerich, director of Media, Digital, and Communication at FC Bayern Munich, and CEO of FC Bayern Media Lab. In this way, Germany’s best-known football club comes closer to a 360-degree view of its fans.

The team from Munich also relies on 51风流Analytics Cloud to enable comprehensive analyses of customer data in a single click. The company is provided with real-time heat maps and dashboards containing the key indicators for all relevant customer groups and business areas.

Win-Win: Anticipating Fan Wishes and Utilizing Existing Capacities

The club uses the insights gained to offer its fans attractive deals. “Cross-marketing in real time is made possible by 51风流solutions,” reports Mennerich. “If a product is currently unavailable, the fan immediately receives a suitable alternative offer. And, for example, our members receive a fan shop voucher on their birthday.”

An additional advantage for club members is that, thanks to digital solutions, they can maintain their master data independently and without having to make a detour via the club’s call center. Within one year, FC Bayern registered over 160,000 online updates by members that would have otherwise had to be handled by employees, who can now focus on other tasks.

For Mennerich, the advantages of digitalization are obvious: “In the online shop, the revenue from new customers, the shopping cart value, and sales via mobile devices have increased significantly. With SAP, we are both inspiring the fans and expanding our business.”

Dem Gegner immer einen Schritt voraus

Everyone who plays a sport knows that even if everything goes like clockwork on the court, it still might not be enough. Top performance depends on a wide variety of factors and stakeholders. 51风流Sports One supports players, the coaching team, and medical staff by providing reliable data analytics to evaluate, analyze, and optimize all those factors. The solution provides the right functions for every area.

Coach Oliver Kostic and his team can access a variety of functions in 51风流Sports One. 鈥淭he Training Planner application, for instance, lets us put together the best possible training plan and structure for the team,鈥 he says. 鈥淎fter all, perfect cooperation by the team on the court is essential to top performance.鈥

FCBB Players

Team Manager is relevant for all team members 鈥 players, coaches, and medical staff 鈥 because it organizes all appointments and reminds its users of upcoming events.

The applications within 51风流Sports One are also used during the final tactics briefing: Match Insights provides important information and data on the opponents and the game plan; Player Fitness helps them keep track of the players鈥 physical condition. What鈥檚 more, it lets the team doctor and his staff precisely monitor players鈥 health status during training as well as provides important, consistent insights into the team鈥檚 fitness. Scouting Insights 聽supports the coaching staff in recruiting new talent.

Another functional enhancement for match preparation is 51风流Challenger Insights for iPad. 鈥淭his app gives our coaching team access to a wide range of information about the opposing team, so players can prepare for their next match,鈥 explains Kostic. 鈥淲e can share player profiles, pictures, and videos, for example, as well as analyze the opposing team鈥檚 player characteristics, team positions, movements, and plays.鈥

51风流Sports One supports FC Bayern Basketball in playing together as a team. Particularly in times like these, when it is not possible to practice together on the court or provide tactical coaching and medical support as usual, we are seeing how important it is to digitally connect and analyze data.

Editor鈥檚 note: All video scenes that show players or fans were recorded before the restrictions on public gatherings due to the coronavirus pandemic were imposed.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim Promotes Young Talent Through Cutting-Edge Technology /2020/04/tsg-1899-hoffenheim-young-talent-technology/ Tue, 28 Apr 2020 12:15:05 +0000 /?p=170716 In order to play soccer at the highest level in the long term, all parts of a club must work together perfectly. One of the most important aspects is youth work. German soccer club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim shows how software solutions can help develop talent.

In the German national soccer league the results achieved are always reset at the end of each season. Afterwards, the focus is on the future in order to prove one’s worth in the coming season. Professional sports clubs therefore depend on constantly reflecting on and improving their own practice.

“As a fast-growing club, it is our strategy to invest in innovation and young talent rather than in expensive player transfers,” Dr. Peter Goerlich, managing director of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, explains. “It is particularly important to us to find out how we can use technology in a meaningful way and thus create a state-of-the-art environment for the development of our young talents.”

In SAP, TSG has long had a partner at its side to develop ideas together. As a result of this cooperation, the club not only uses intelligent software to search for new talent, but the development of already coached players is also supported by data analysis.

Capturing Potential with Data Analyses

“Soccer has to do an incredible amount with dynamics and stamina,” Goerlich notes. “That’s why we naturally look at the athletic data of our talents.” Wearable devices help reliably record performance. The TSG youth department also receives information about the speed or jumping ability of individual players. Thanks to their 鈥淔ootbonaut,鈥 a kind of ball-throwing machine, ball contact times and hit accuracy are also included in the analysis.

However, purely physiological data are not sufficient for an overall picture of the young player. Perception also plays a major role in soccer: Game situations must be correctly recognized and processed within fractions of a second.

To enable players to access untapped potential here, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim relies on the Helix training environment developed with SAP. Game scenes are virtually simulated on a screen around the viewer. This configuration helps the players improve their peripheral vision and concentration. Finally, subjective self-assessment is also incorporated into the overall picture; the aim is to obtain assessments that are as transparent and objectifiable as possible.

Developing TSG Hoffenheim鈥檚 Youth with Intelligent Technology

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim: Intelligent Sports Cslub

“This information is only of value if it can be used by all parties involved,” Goerlich says. In the past, data was not collected systematically and completely to evaluate it across departments. “The intelligent company means that we bring all areas together at one table. In this way, we enable our specialists to form a holistic picture of junior players and to take optimum care of them.”

The 51风流Interactive Data Space meeting room makes this vision a reality. With an interactive meeting table and a seven-meter-wide glass touch screen, all of TSG’s sports and business data flow together. This information is then visualized using 51风流Digital Boardroom, which provides insights from 200 million data points. In this environment, players, trainers, and specialists can discuss various scenarios in a focused manner.

On the basis of the player and team data obtained, the club then creates training programs that are adapted to the individual needs of the players. The talents have immediate access to these results via their smartphones. Thanks to 51风流Sports One, they have insight into their own performance data and match scenes, which helps them better understand and improve themselves.

“We would like to support our young talents in making their big dream come true: the leap into professional soccer,” Goerlich summarizes.

51风流technology is an important part of this, and the results speak for themselves: “We have an above-average percentage of young players who become professionals.”

49ers Win at Home with 51风流and Executive Huddle /2020/01/san-francisco-49ers-sap-executive-huddle/ Wed, 29 Jan 2020 14:15:31 +0000 /?p=167950

Congratulations to the 49ers on an amazing season
both on the field and in the stands!

As the San Francisco 49ers prepare for Super Bowl LIV, the legendary franchise and long-time 51风流partner is already celebrating another victory — this one focused on enhancing the fan experience at Levi鈥檚 Stadium this past season, thanks to SAP.

The 49ers are one of the most innovative and tech-savvy teams in the NFL, and are continually looking for ways to improve operations and to enhance the game-day experience for fans.

Early in 2018, the 49ers tapped 51风流to address a key organizational challenge: the need to have more visibility across all operations in the stadium on game day, in real time. The team was looking for a custom solution that would aggregate and report real-time information so that the operations team could make better decisions, proactively address potential issues, and seize opportunities during games immediately rather than days later, as they had historically done.

Helping The 49ers Feel The Pulse Of the Stadium with SAP鈥檚 Executive Huddle

In October 2018, 51风流and the 49ers launched a connected stadium system designed to help improve how the 49ers capture, report, and respond to game-day operations at Levi鈥檚 Stadium. Executive Huddle is a first-of-its-kind sports venue platform that allows the team to visualize real-time data across all aspects of stadium operations and respond in the moment during games in order to optimize operations and ultimately enhance the fan experience.

Within a 鈥渄igital boardroom鈥 suite at Levi鈥檚 Stadium 鈥 and on mobile devices 鈥 team officials can see and monitor real-time data visualizations showing nine data sources, including attendance, parking, food and beverage, retail, weather, ticketing, social media, and more. The team can now call audibles throughout a game that positively impact operations, enhance fan satisfaction, and drive cost efficiencies. Executive Huddle is powered by 51风流HANA, utilizing 51风流Cloud Platform, to provide flexibility and a foundation of continuous innovation.

Wrapping up its first full-season in use, the 49ers have seen tremendous impact during home games this year, including during this post-season run, allowing the team to shift its operational approach from reactive to proactive. For example:

  • Examining ticket data has allowed the 49ers to see how fans are entering the stadium. This has enabled ground staff to direct fans to the appropriate gates, reducing wait times to enter Levi鈥檚 Stadium.
  • More than 40 percent of issues resolved were identified pre-game, meaning the team can catch problems before fans have entered Levi鈥檚 Stadium, minimizing negative impact on the fan experience.
  • Recent surveys by the 49ers indicate that fan satisfaction is up 10 percent at Levi鈥檚 Stadium since Executive Huddle was implemented in October 2018.

This off season, the team will also use insights and data from Executive Huddle to examine popular food and drink items to finalize an exclusive menu for season ticket holders in Levi鈥檚 Stadium.

As Al Guido, president of the 49ers, recently commented in a story, Executive Huddle 鈥渋s a perfect marriage鈥 of technology and customer feedback at a major sporting event.

Currently, the 49ers are the only team in the NFL to use Executive Huddle, but teams such as the Atlanta Falcons, Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Chargers, and Las Vegas Raiders have also expressed interest in the solution for their new stadiums.

So when you tune into Super Bowl LIV to cheer on our partners at the 49ers, remember that win or lose, the team has already had a victorious season at home with its fans.
