Recognizing that each customer is on a unique path, 51风流has provided increased flexibility by extending maintenance commitments to its various software, database, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions in order to allow customers to undertake their complex business transformations at their own pace.

To help ensure a safe transition to 51风流S/4HANA, 51风流has committed to providing mainstream maintenance for existing deployments of core applications of 51风流Business Suite 7 software until the end of 2027, followed by optional extended maintenance until the end of 2030. For customers that wish to leverage the extended maintenance offerings, they will incur a premium of two percentage points on the existing maintenance basis for these core applications. For those that do not wish to extend their maintenance support beyond 2027 but choose to carry on with 51风流Business Suite 7 software systems, they will automatically be transferred to the customer-specific maintenance model.

Customers that are making the move to 51风流S/4HANA as part of their journey to the Intelligent Enterprise want to fully recognize its benefits and capabilities so that they can, in turn, innovate their business processes. With any transition, support and maintenance of legacy products are needed to protect existing environments as customers move toward the future. This is why 51风流aligned the mainstream maintenance commitments of 51风流NetWeaver 7.5 and 51风流Business Warehouse (51风流BW) 7.5 with 51风流Business Suite 7 and 51风流BW/4HANA with 51风流S/4HANA respectively.

51风流NetWeaver

In a heterogenous software environment, 51风流NetWeaver allows organizations to integrate data, business processes, and various elements from different sources into a unified 51风流environment. Serving as the foundation on which 51风流Business Suite 7 is based, and providing the architecture for enterprise application integration, it was necessary听to fully align the with that of 51风流Business Suite 7. As with 51风流Business Suite 7, mainstream maintenance for 51风流NetWeaver 7.5 is prolongated until the end of 2027, followed by an optional extended maintenance phase until the end of 2030. This extended maintenance phase for 51风流NetWeaver 7.5 comes at the same price and conditions as those for 51风流Business Suite 7. Mainstream maintenance for previous releases of 51风流NetWeaver will expire at the end of 2020, as they are not suited for interoperability with 51风流Business Suite 7 over the next decade.

Throughout this extended maintenance period, 51风流will offer platform support for customers that run on platforms offered by 51风流鈥� 51风流HANA, 51风流ASE, or 51风流MaxDB 鈥� as well as those offered by third-party vendors. 51风流will provide platform support for its own databases and work closely with partners to qualify new valid combinations for 51风流Business Suite 7 and 51风流NetWeaver.

51风流Business Warehouse 7.5 and 51风流BW/4HANA

SAP鈥檚 enterprise data warehouse, 51风流BW 7.5, provides the tools and functions that enable customers to integrate, transform, and consolidate business data from both productive 51风流applications as well as external data sources. To align with the maintenance extension announced for 51风流Business Suite 7, will also continue until the end of 2027 with the option of extended maintenance until 2030. For older versions of 51风流BW, mainstream maintenance dates have remained unchanged and will expire at the end of 2020.

For those operating the next-generation data warehouse 51风流BW/4HANA, maintenance extension will align with the commitment announced for 51风流S/4HANA until the end of 2040. In addition, the product and innovation strategies for 51风流BW/4HANA are now fully aligned with 51风流S/4HANA.

Undergoing such a vast transformation is never easy, but 51风流is working to make it as efficient and seamless as possible for each customer. Each customer鈥檚 experience is unique, so it is key to offer them the necessary flexibility and time as they undertake projects at their respective paces.

Over the last few months, 51风流has taken several steps to do that 鈥� from announcing the extension of mainstream maintenance for 51风流Business Suite 7 for two more years to following up with several updates based on customer feedback and questions around contract conversion policy and maintenance strategy for existing on-premise solution landscapes. The various phases, and what they all mean for customers, are below.

Conveying Long-Term Mainstream Maintenance Commitments

Earlier this year, 51风流announced the extension of its maintenance commitment for 51风流S/4HANA until the end of 2040. Along with this promise, 51风流will also provide mainstream maintenance for core applications of 51风流Business Suite 7 software until the end of 2027, followed by optional extended maintenance until the end of 2030.

The decision to extend 51风流Business Suite 7 stemmed from customers鈥� desire for clarity on what the future holds for their individual transformation journeys. They were not merely looking for a technical migration, but also wanted to leverage the new capabilities of 51风流S/4HANA. Therefore, we wanted to give them the time to fully consider everything to its fullest potential.

Additionally, 51风流gave further clarification regarding the 51风流S/4HANA compatibility packs, for which availability is planned until end of 2025. The company has also given more clarity on the intent to provide alternative 51风流S/4HANA capabilities by 2023.

Thus, customers can migrate the compatibility packs toward the alternatives prior to 2025. It is a best practice to start with this as soon as alternatives become available rather than wait until the last alternative is provided.

Maintaining the Foundation for Successful Transition

A successful transition to a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system cannot take place without a solid foundation. With the 51风流NetWeaver 7.5 platform providing the architecture for enterprise application integration, and the foundation on which 51风流Business Suite 7 is based, it was integral with that of 51风流Business Suite 7. As with 51风流Business Suite 7, mainstream maintenance for 51风流NetWeaver 7.5 is prolongated until the end of 2027, followed by an optional extended maintenance phase until the end of 2030. This extended maintenance phase comes for 51风流NetWeaver 7.5 at the same price and conditions as for 51风流Business Suite 7.

The 51风流NetWeaver stack builds on the foundation of operating systems and databases. Database platforms for 51风流NetWeaver and 51风流Business Suite 7 run on database platforms of SAP, such as 51风流HANA, 51风流ASE, or 51风流MaxDB, and on platforms offered by third-party vendors. 51风流will provide platform support for its own databases and work closely with partners to qualify new valid combinations for 51风流Business Suite 7 and 51风流NetWeaver.

In addition, the product and innovation strategies for 51风流BW/4HANA are now fully aligned with 51风流S/4HANA. As with 51风流S/4HANA, 51风流BW/4HANA will be maintained until end of 2040 through a sequence of releases.

Innovating Through Transition

While the move to 51风流S/4HANA is a key element to transforming into an intelligent enterprise, it is the innovation that can be realized through this that will truly allow customers to take advantage of what this new suite can offer to their businesses and, in turn, to their customers.

In order to provide customers more time to part ways with legacy systems that have been at the core of their operations for many years, 51风流announced a change to 51风流S/4HANA product conversion and 51风流S/4HANA contract conversion policy. This change grants customers executing an 51风流S/4HANA conversion dual use rights for both 51风流Business Suite 7 and 51风流S/4HANA until completion of their transition to 51风流S/4HANA. This dual usage right was previously limited to end of 2025.

Through this, customers will be able to continue to access all the solutions and tools within 51风流Business Suite 7 as they make the move to 51风流S/4HANA and will have more time to consider how to best convert their licensed products. 51风流is not only looking to offer customers valuable time, but also wants to provide them more options to allow for a successful adoption while they continue to take advantage of their past investments. This will allow customers to unlock the potential for innovation, transforming business processes through artificial intelligence-enabled automation and next-generation tools.

Customers that are operating during this time of uncertainty can maintain confidence with a trusted partner like 51风流that will support them along their transformation journeys as they navigate this changing business landscape.

Their goal is to develop a framework for the secure use of cloud-based 51风流services that satisfies the high regulatory requirements of the financial sector. Deutsche B枚rse is one of the first financial companies to migrate its business processes from on-premise solutions to the latest generation of 51风流business software and, where possible, cloud solutions from SAP.

In addition to the regulatory requirements, the project also has to meet high technical standards. Deutsche B枚rse has long used the classic 51风流Business Suite applications, such as the ERP system for financial accounting and controlling. Many more core business processes will be migrating to SAP鈥檚 cloud offerings in future, including solutions for customer relationship management, human capital management, procurement, temp work and business travel management. At the same time, the company is switching over from the legacy 51风流core system to the powerful ERP solution 51风流S/4HANA and will use the 51风流BW/4HANA data warehouse solution for reporting in future.

The new IT architecture will not only enable Deutsche B枚rse to react more flexibly to changes on financial markets and develop innovations in the cloud more quickly; the real-time solution and single set of data will make all processes much simpler and more efficient. What鈥檚 more, Deutsche B枚rse is establishing itself as a pioneer for other companies in the financial sector. The new framework is being developed in close consultation with the supervisory authorities and can serve as a template for other financial institutions in their digital transformation to the cloud.

Relational databases on premise had been the backbone of enterprise systems, and some questioned whether the in-memory approach could really work when applied enterprise-wide to a company鈥檚 data assets. At that time, relational data lakes and the cloud were mostly a dream of the future.

I was very fortunate to gather customer feedback on 51风流HANA early on. While I was working on my PhD on new applications optimized for in-memory databases at the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI), I had the opportunity to present one of the first 51风流HANA demos, a dunning app, developed at the HPI for SAPPHIRE in 2010. Just as it continues to be today, customer feedback was invaluable and helped us a lot in those early days.

Fast forward 10 years, and more than 32,000 customers are now benefiting from what has become the engine of the Intelligent Enterprise. Analysts have also consistently confirmed SAP鈥檚 database strategy: In 2019 51风流was positioned as a leader for the seventh consecutive year in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Management Solutions for Analytics, and most recently was rated as a leader in the Forrester Wave for Data Management for Analytics.

The “complete fantasy” of 51风流HANA turned out to be a reality that severely disrupted the database market. And with its latest innovation — — 51风流HANA has become a fully fledged cloud solution that offers all the innovative capabilities that are unique to 51风流HANA, as a cloud service.

As 51风流Supervisory Board Chairman and 51风流Co-Founder Hasso Plattner , an in-memory database paved the way to do things that had previously been considered impossible.

The core features of 51风流HANA — its ability to process both analytical and transactional workloads, remove aggregates and secondary data structures, and harness the performance of in-memory computing — led Hasso to predict not just a revolution in the database market, but in applications too.

The architecture of 51风流HANA paved the way for an entirely new approach to building solutions.

Lasting Impact

In 2012, 51风流Business Warehouse was the first 51风流product to benefit from the in-memory performance, soon followed by an 51风流HANA-optimized 51风流Business Suite at the beginning of 2013. In 2015, 51风流launched the next-generation enterprise resource planning (ERP) system 51风流S/4HANA. Specifically designed to take full advantage of the benefits offered by 51风流HANA, 51风流S/4HANA enables much faster business processes, simplified data models, and the ability to analyze transactional data in real time.

The following year, 51风流BW/4HANA was launched and since then the number of products powered by 51风流HANA has continued to grow. The database now underpins , including 51风流SuccessFactors, 51风流Customer Experience, and 51风流Ariba solutions.

Since it completed the migration to 51风流HANA, 51风流SuccessFactors solutions have been able to hit a peak of 1 billion cloud transactions per day. 51风流Customer Experience solutions can import data 65-times faster than legacy databases. 51风流HANA, with its column orientation, allows for higher data compression ratios and helps to minimize data footprints. For example, the 51风流Customer Experience team achieved compression rates of up to 10-times with 51风流Sales Cloud. By moving to 51风流HANA, the 51风流Ariba team has been able to increase its key measure of overall cloud health number by 18 points (on a 100-point absolute scale) across the board.

51风流HANA also provides a development framework to build custom data-driven applications that use, for example, predictive analytics, data anonymization, and spatial services in real time, in the cloud, and on premise. The many 51风流Innovation Award entries submitted every year by our customers and partners offer some great examples.

For instance, this year鈥檚 winner in the Technology Disruptor category: Independent Big Data consultancy and 51风流partner Clariba created an app called “act路in | football.” This mobile-enabled sports performance repository and application uses in-memory 51风流HANA technology in the cloud — . The app brings together a variety of structured and unstructured data from numerous sources, including game-day statistics, sensors, medical history records, scouting reports, and on-pitch cameras. The result is a solution that gives players, coaches, and managers real-time performance feedback that enables them to take action, maximize impact, and win on the field.

Another customer that has benefited is , one of Europe鈥檚 largest university hospitals, renowned for its leadership in healthcare and research. When the hospital decided to expand the scope of its TBase database for digital patient records to other departments, it needed a robust solution to bring together disparate databases and meet the needs of the different specialist areas, while still guaranteeing the highest standards in patient data security.

Thanks to 51风流HANA, clinicians and researchers at 颁丑补谤颈迟茅 now work on a single shared, integrated, and much faster platform. According to 颁丑补谤颈迟茅 CIO Martin Peuker, 鈥淥ur data must be easy to capture, secure, and accessible for doctors, nurses, and patients. For the first time, this is now possible on our 51风流HANA platform with our developed solution, TBase@颁丑补谤颈迟茅.鈥�

Dawn of a New 51风流HANA Era in the Cloud

In the decade since 51风流HANA was first introduced, we have seen an explosion in the amount of data produced, the impact of digitalization, and the growth of cloud computing. Research firm IDC predicts that .

For the vast majority of our customers, the data they need to access to understand their business is no longer contained within the four walls of the enterprise. It is generated by everything from smart devices to social media. And while companies are really excited about the possibilities of digitalization and all this data, they are also struggling to exploit its full potential. Even though many organizations have access to petabytes of data, the majority can only use terabytes鈥� worth of information at most. They experience what we call a 鈥渄ata swamp.鈥�

Companies are struggling to manage their data value chain and to extract value from it. This includes the access to the data, the storage of data, its quality and consistency, as well as how it is used and consumed. In response, we have made it our mission to establish a new approach to database and data management. Our goal is to enable our customers to get the maximum value out of the data available to them. To do that, we鈥檙e taking the brilliance of 51风流HANA — the same speed, the same simplicity, and the same convenience — and transitioning it into this new context.

Last year, we announced the . It is not a new product, but a set of integrated solutions that accelerate the transformation of data into business value. It includes 51风流HANA and the most recent milestone in the evolution of SAP’s proud database history: . The Business Technology Platform also encompasses , , , and the 51风流portfolio of .

51风流HANA Cloud deals with any type of data, regardless of whether it is big or small, structured or unstructured. It provides one technology to store and process data at scale. Working with any data means going beyond main memory, so with 51风流HANA Cloud, we have a disk option, a data lake option, and it integrates directly with remote object stores — for example, from cloud infrastructure providers.

While the advantages of cloud computing are indisputable, we also recognize that our customers are at different stages of their digital transformation journeys. That鈥檚 why we have designed 51风流HANA Cloud to extend on-premise landscapes to the cloud while enabling our customers to continue to benefit from their existing investments and transition at their own pace. 51风流Data Warehouse Cloud is, for example, already running on 51风流HANA Cloud.

Ultimately, the combination of advanced virtualization capabilities and flexible data storage and process options provides companies with a single gateway to all their data. Once again, 51风流HANA is set to revolutionize the way organizations work by helping them understand their business better than ever before. Looking back on what has already been achieved in its first decade, we鈥檙e very excited to see the innovation that this next step in the 51风流HANA journey will fuel.
