Annual study by 51风流reveals over one third face a lack of funding

London – 听today unveils the results of its annual revealing that 8 in 10 (83%) UK leaders will maintain or increase their investment in sustainability action by 2026. Yet, despite these intentions, UK businesses continue to create their own barriers to environmental progress.

The global study of over 4700 business leaders, including over 300 from the UK, is the third edition of SAP鈥檚 annual Sustainability Study exploring the key motivations and challenges facing organisations looking to reduce environmental impact at scale.

It finds that while 31% of UK businesses say environmental action is already having a strong impact on revenue and profit opportunities, just 12% have assigned accountability for this work to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). While almost one-in-three (28%) have difficulty proving return on investment, making long-term progress harder to prove and sustain.

Sustainability as a Financial Incentive, Not Burden

In the past, measures to safeguard the planet may have been seen as just a moral or ethical obligation but the business mindset is evolving and today, UK businesses are increasingly seeing the long-term financial benefits. In fact, almost two-in-five (37%) report that revenue and profit opportunities are a leading motivator for sustainability action.

Against a backdrop of inflation, supply chain issues and a rising cost-of-living, UK leaders are steadfast in their environmental commitments as they view sustainability action as a means to offset economic uncertainty. Now, over half (57%) of UK leaders expect to see a positive financial return on their sustainability investments within the next five years.

Commenting on the research, Renaud Heyd, Chief Financial Officer, 51风流UKI said: 鈥淥ur study shows that it鈥檚 time that finance leaders realise that having a solid sustainability action plan makes business sense. It is imperative to attract funding from investors who need to make their portfolio greener, and to get a competitive advantage as customers demand sustainable products throughout the supply chain. As taking steps to improve the planet becomes more than just an ethical question, and UK leaders see long-term material gains, CFOs have the authority and expertise to champion the environmental roadmap.鈥

Building Their Own Sustainability Barriers

Yet, despite the link between environmental action and long-term revenue generation, SAP鈥檚 research shows that UK businesses are not involving finance leaders in taking sustainability actions and this is holding back progress.

Currently, just 5% of businesses have assigned responsibility for setting the strategic direction on sustainability action to their organisations CFO. Instead, it falls to an array of other leaders, including the Board of Directors (25%), CEOs (21%), Chief Sustainability Officers (15%) and Chief Operating Officers (10%). The study suggests this approach isn鈥檛 working to translate the economic value of sustainability progress across the business. As many as 38% of UK businesses cite funding issues as one of the top five barriers to taking sustainability action, while 20% cannot get the support from senior stakeholders to take concerted action.

Falling Into the Measurement Trap

Matters are made worse for UK businesses who continue to find that measurement is a stumbling block to progress, and ultimately economic returns.

Just 37% can track scope 1 emissions (greenhouse gas emissions produced directly) to a 鈥榮trong degree鈥, while 10% are not able to track scope 3 emissions (those produced indirectly across the supply chain) at all – causing many leaders to rely on estimates or 鈥榞ut feel鈥 when disclosing environmental impact. UK leaders are also struggling to adopt a standardised reporting framework, with over one third having no consistent methodology for calculating the environmental impact of their products.

This is being further exacerbated by the use of conflicting measurement methods for reporting. While leaders are overwhelmingly using direct measurement to track energy emissions (83%), resource availability (82%), fresh water availability (75%), solid waste (74%) and materials use (73%), they rely upon guesswork and estimates for air pollution (83%), nature loss (78%), supply chain impact (69%) and water pollution (60%). This is leading to almost nine in 10 (89%) reporting difficulty with gathering or analysing data for regulatory compliance, at a time when UK leaders are already having to navigate an assortment of changing regulations, taxes and levies associated with carbon footprint.

Stephen Jamieson, Global Head of Circular Economy Solutions, SAP said: 鈥淚n a climate where stricter regulations are now requiring businesses to disclose environmental impact, leaders who cannot accurately report this data risk allegations of greenwashing, and fines and reputational damage. Focusing on implementing a standardised reporting framework will ensure businesses are substantiating their green credentials, getting measurement right, and setting in motion steps that will directly lead to long-term impact. Organisations can use this data to redesign products, reuse materials, reduce waste and regenerate natural systems across the supply chain 鈥 in effect, powering the circular economy.

鈥淥ur portfolio means we are well-equipped to support businesses and ensure they are in the best possible position to navigate these challenges in the years ahead. This will allow leaders to unlock further investment, reap the financial rewards of taking sustainability action, comply with changing regulatory requirements, and reach net zero in the future.鈥

Commenting on the research, Edward Manderson, Lecturer in Environmental Economics at the University of Manchester, said: 鈥淭he connection between sustainability action and financial performance will play a critical role in shaping environmental progress in the future. Over the last few years, academic literature has shown that firms benefit financially from sustainability measures, and SAP鈥檚 research demonstrates that this is indeed a reality for businesses who are looking to recover fast from the pandemic environment. As this research shows, business strategy and sustainability action are now so intertwined that there is simply no excuse for organisations if they fail to address shortcomings in their environmental performance and enact meaningful change.鈥

Pioneering partnership will standardise sustainability reporting across global value chains and tackle Scope 3 emissions

LONDON, UK 鈥 7 September 2023 – (NYSE: SAP) and today announce a visionary new partnership to show how carbon accounting could be standardised for business customers by piloting the recently launched 51风流Sustainability Data Exchange (SDX).

51风流SDX enables BT to collect, trace and share carbon data across its own supplier base, providing unparalleled visibility into the carbon footprint of its business products and services. BT can then share this information directly with business customers when they purchase products through . Furthermore, BT can complement this with data-driven insights from its and to help customers optimise their own IT for both carbon and energy.

Key to the decision to select 51风流SDX was its adherence to the carbon data interoperability standards set by the (PACT), hosted by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). This means that global and UK business customers do not have to implement their own carbon accounting platforms to calculate, collate and share emissions data. Instead, they simply request it through 51风流SDX for their BT products and services.

BT is sending a strong signal of intent to standardise sustainability reporting across global business customers鈥 value chains to help them听tackle and drive environmental progress. This will also contribute to the delivery of the pledge to help customers avoid 60 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions by 2030.

Sarwar Khan, Global Head of Digital Sustainability, Business, BT, said: 鈥淭ypically, value chain emissions represent a greater proportion of a business鈥 carbon footprint than operational emissions. Tracking, measuring and acting on these and bringing more suppliers and partners on the journey will not just accelerate net-zero targets, but set a new precedent for sustainability reporting. Collaboration fuels progress and access to data is fundamental to getting it right.鈥

鈥淭he lack of standardisation in sustainability reporting has been a roadblock to progress for too long鈥 commented Ryan Poggi, Managing Director of 51风流UKI. 鈥淭his creates confusion and an inability to validate real change. Our partnership with BT gives us an opportunity to refresh the guidelines and offers a blueprint for a universal standard in sustainability reporting. The aim is to create an environment for organisations to transparently tackle global challenges together.鈥

51风流SDX merges granular and accurate carbon data with financial transactions on the . It provides businesses with unmatched insights into their environmental footprint and standardises how to communicate learnings and action across value chains. In adopting 51风流SDX, BT can request product-level carbon data from key suppliers for its business customer services, support smaller partners to calculate their carbon footprint and securely share and standardise this information across its value chain. To build scale, BT is working with key partner Cisco to deploy SDX to receive product carbon data for core network devices, simplify and secure data exchange with business customers backed by its global connectivity services, and boost traceability.

51风流research reveals over one third of senior industry decision makers could be forced to allocate ESG budget towards addressing talent recruitment and retainment.

  • Thirty-four percent believe challenges will peak in summer 2023, while twenty one percent see challenges lasting through until Christmas 2023
  • Thirty-three percent of the travel workforce say they鈥檙e planning to leave the industry in the next 12 months because of added workload and stress
  • Senior leaders know exactly how to address staffing issues, citing top three priorities as:
    1. Ensuring an optimised supply chain to ensure a constant availability of resources and equipment (34%)
    2. A greater understanding of why employees leave and how they can retain them (33%)
    3. Better processes to speed up onboarding processes and checks for new hires, particularly for recruiting international talent (32%)
  • Over one third (35%) worry they鈥檒l have to allocate budget away from ESG in order to implement positive changes

London, 11 January 2023 鈥 New research released by reveals that the worst is yet to come for the UK鈥檚 travel industry as staffing shortages continue to challenge airlines and rail operators.

In a survey of 401 senior decision makers from within the UK鈥檚 airline and rail operators, fifty-five percent of respondents say staffing challenges will impact customers鈥 2023 travel plans with thirty-four percent believing it will peak in summer 2023. While, overall, twenty one percent see challenges lasting through until Christmas 2023.

SAP鈥檚 research also reveals that in addition to passenger and travel disruption, staffing shortages are having a profound impact on the industry鈥檚 senior workforce. Thirty-six percent of those surveyed say the added workload and stress will have a negative impact on their mental health. With the same amount admitting they鈥檙e worried they鈥檒l have to take a pay cut if the challenges aren鈥檛 resolved. These pressures are also pushing one third (33%) to think about leaving the industry in the next 12 months.

Leaders clear on the source of the challenges

In recent months, the travel and transport industry has faced numerous staffing shortages, leading to queues, delays and wide-spread disruption. According to the survey, senior travel executives from within airline and rail agree somewhat or strongly that these issues were largely impacted by an inability to forecast supply and demand to keep up with an unexpected surges in passenger numbers (40%); as well as a lack of collaboration or intelligence sharing between the industry and government (40%). For thirty-eight percent, Brexit is the cause, while for thirty-six percent, slow onboarding processes and excessive employee checks are to blame. Almost a quarter (24%) of those questioned say the industry faces irreparable damage and customer loss because of these issues.

Scope to stabilise the industry

The good news is that the industry overwhelmingly realises that it needs to address these shortfalls, with a staggering ninety-six percent of respondents saying their ability to recruit and retain talent needs improvement. SAP鈥檚 research finds that both airline and rail leaders know exactly what they need to do to stabilise recruitment and source talent. They list their top three priorities as ensuring an optimised supply chain to ensure a constant availability of resources and equipment (34%), building a greater understanding of why employees leave and how they can retain them (33%); and better processes to speed up onboarding and checks for new hires, particularly for recruiting international talent (32%).

Many worry sustainability sacrifices will need to be made

Given the industry disruption over the past few years, it follows that UK travel leaders believe sacrifices will have to be made in order to ensure staffing pressures are relieved. Just a couple of months after COP27, as many as thirty-five percent of respondents state they鈥檒l need to allocate budget away from ESG to address ongoing staffing challenges. This need to refocus budgets is particularly concerning as almost one third (30%) admit they鈥檙e not on track to meet their net-zero target; with almost another third (29%) revealing they鈥檙e still not taking any immediate action to reduce their environmental footprint.

鈥淭ravel providers have seen some significant challenges over the past few years, and many have as a result amended or fundamentally changed their business and operating models. The pandemic, a strong focus on sustainability and changes in customer behaviour underpinned by digital technologies have been accelerating factors in this transformation of the travel sector. There is now tremendous opportunity to reshape the future, especially for those rail and airline leaders who are willing to take definitive actions and utilise technology to make better informed and more predictable decisions,鈥 explains Dominique Kunze, Head of Telco, Media and Service Industries at SAP.

鈥淲hen we look at the workforce perspective, it鈥檚 encouraging to see that many are clear on why they鈥檝e faced staffing struggles, what they can do to ensure the future health and wellbeing of their staff, and ultimately emerge on top. But they do not need to sacrifice ESG efforts in order to do so. There is a raft of cost-effective, flexible and carbon-friendly technology out there to help them accelerate recruitment and relieve workforce planning pressures. This allows travel providers to focus on what they do best 鈥 helping people get to where they need to be in the most environmentally friendly and cost-efficient way possible.鈥

  • Fifty-two percent of UK consumers aged 18-34 are actively looking to shop more from retailers with strong sustainability credentials this Christmas

  • Thirty-three percent of shoppers are willing to wait longer to obtain more sustainable products/services.

  • A quarter of UK consumers are shopping online to save fuel/travel costs

  • London, 10th November 2022 鈥 New research released by 51风流reveals that despite ongoing cost of living challenges, over half (52%) of UK consumers aged 18-34 are actively looking to shop more from retailers with strong sustainability credentials this Christmas.

Less than a third (30%) of all UK consumers are prioritising sustainable purchases, but two in five (39%) of 18-34-year-olds are even prepared to pay significantly more for a sustainable product or service.

Findings from 51风流show that growing consumer demand for better sustainability credentials has not taken a backseat during challenging times for consumers. Supply chain issues have been disastrous for organisations in the UK this year and consumer-packaged goods/retail brands are hoping the run up to Christmas will see the traditional spike in retail spending.

Four in ten (40%) UK consumers are prioritising food and drink, when it came to their Christmas spending this year, and more than four in ten (43%) are looking to buy locally sourced products for their Christmas dinner or lunch, this rises to over half (54%) in younger respondents.

Locally sourced food is the most popular sustainability option among UK consumers. Second hand goods were far less popular with only a quarter (27%) saying they would be looking for second-hand or upcycled products as Christmas gifts. Again, young consumers buck the trend as almost half (49%) will be looking to buy second-hand or upcycled products as gifts this Christmas, compared to only 12% of 55+.

Only a third (33%) of all consumers are willing to wait longer if it means they can obtain sustainable products and/ or services. Younger consumers are more patient, with over half (51%) of 18-34-year-olds willing to wait longer for sustainable purchases, compared to 28% of 35-54-year-olds and 24% of 55+.

Despite total spend over the upcoming Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend likely to decrease from traditional levels, it still presents itself as one of the key calendar events for consumers looking to grab the opportunity to shop discounted products. Over a third (36%) of UK consumers plan to shop more online this Christmas, signalling a need for retailers to review their online assets to ensure a fast, seamless, and personalised experience during this year鈥檚 major shopping weekend:

    • Younger generations are more in favour of online shopping, with 46% of 18-34-year-olds planning to do all of their shopping online.
    • Almost half (45%) said that they plan to shop equally between online and in-store
    • For those shopping more online, convenience was the main reason for this (56%). Other factors included avoiding the crowds (47%), better prices and offers (40%), saving money on travel expenses (24%), wanting to avoid COVID-19 or other illnesses (17%).

鈥淏rands have come a long way towards putting purpose first and empowering the consumer to make sustainable decisions in their everyday lives. It was a priority for most CPG and retail brands towards the end of last year, in response to rising consumer demand, and this research reiterates just how front of mind sustainability must be, particularly to younger consumers, despite ongoing cost of living issues,鈥 comments , Vice President, Strategic Customer Program and Consumer Industry Group, 51风流UK&I.

鈥淐hristmas is fast approaching, which will hopefully provide some much-needed festive cheer for consumers and brands alike. Our research showed that while consumers need to be watchful of their spending, over a quarter (26%) felt that advertising in the holiday period had become melancholier since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Two thirds (65%) believed that Christmas adverts should be jollier, in spite of the current economic climate. There鈥檚 still much to look forward to during the holiday season.鈥

Goutam concludes, 鈥淭o continue to attract customers, retailers and consumer goods organisations need to focus their efforts in three key directions 鈥 providing unrivalled customer experience, maintaining high sustainability credentials, and ensuring resilient value chains. As we all navigate the rocky path ahead, there is still hope that consumers and retail and CPG brands can have a good end to 2022.鈥

    ]]>
Annual study by 51风流reveals more than a third of businesses rely on gut-feel over data insights.

LONDON, UK October 26, 2022 (NYSE: SAP) today unveils the results of its new revealing that nine-in-ten UK businesses connect long-term profitability with environmental sustainability. But an inability to use data to measure and substantiate their eco-credentials emerges as a key barrier.

The global study of 6600+ business leaders, including over 300 from the UK, is the second edition of SAP鈥檚 annual Sustainability Study which explores the motivations and challenges facing organisations as they look to improve the environment on a global scale. It finds that as profitability and sustainability become inextricably linked, poor data practices are setting in 鈥 providing a stumbling block to future growth.

In fact, as many as 40% of UK businesses rely solely upon assumptions and estimates, not facts, to screen their supply chains, while one-in-three (33%) do so when working to address climate change. At a time when UK businesses need to avoid being seen as green-washing, measurement is the foundation of accurate and legitimate action to support the environment.

    Marrying sustainability and long-term profitability

With assessing a company鈥檚 green credentials before making a purchasing decision, leaders are responding in kind to increase their short-term investment in environmental issues, such as: climate change (50%), air pollution (32%) and solid waste (31%). It follows that when asked about motivators to improve the planet, UK leaders ranked customer demand (49%) and the potential for revenue generation (38%) among the highest, just as they did in 2021.

Commenting on the research, Michiel Verhoeven, Managing Director, 51风流UKI, said: 鈥淚n a macro-economic environment filled with uncertainty, taking action to improve the environment can restore balance and fundamentally improve the bottom line. Whether that鈥檚 transitioning to renewable energy and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, or streamlining supply chains to address product shortages.鈥

Taking action to improve the environment and reduce an organisation鈥檚 footprint has always been a moral and ethical necessity, but the survey reveals it has evolved to become a key driver of revenue. So much so that almost two-thirds (65%) of UK businesses now believe that addressing environmental issues will be material to business results within the next five years.

At the same time, fewer businesses are now predicting that environmental action will come at a cost to their bottom line. In fact, when compared to 2021 results, 57% fewer leaders believe environmental action will adversely impact their financial results in more than five years鈥 time 鈥 suggesting confidence in sustainability action to improve their financial performance in the near future.

Environmental strategy grounded in best data practice

But capitalising upon heighted customer demand and the potential for long-term profitability requires a dedicated sustainability strategy powered by data analysis. And this is where UK businesses are running into trouble.

Almost a quarter (23%) of UK businesses are doubtful about their ability to accurately measure their impact on the environment. While just 8% are completely satisfied with the quality of their data, there has been a drop on both last year鈥檚 survey results and the global average (23%), this year.

Professor Peter Hopkinson, Professor in Circular Economy and Co-Director Exeter Centre for the Circular Economy, adds: 鈥淒ata is a crucial requirement for evidencing the proof of circular economy value creation, the benefits of net zero, and strategies to drive up resource productivity. The work by 51风流provides clear evidence that access to robust and reliable data is becoming a critical capability requirement for business reporting, future听 value creation, supply chain resilience听 management.鈥

With 69% of UK businesses feeling the impact of the rising cost of resources, because of climate change, leaders cannot afford to deploy poor data etiquette if they wish to offset market uncertainty, strengthen their eco-credentials and connect long-term profitability with sustainability action.

Verhoeven adds: 鈥淚t should be an imperative for every organisation to substantiate their environmental credentials. Customers need to be sure businesses are not green-washing and are committed to action. By working with a technology partner, like SAP, leaders can holistically assess their impact on the planet and ensure they are taking accurate steps to reduce their footprint. 听That鈥檚 how they will protect their reputation, reach net-zero faster and drive revenue opportunities in the years to come.鈥

This February, 51风流UK&I Innovation Labs held a 48-hour immersive experience challenge for our partner ecosystem which saw , and come up with some of the most innovative city distribution, waste management and city planning ideas to feed the smart cities of the future.

To set the scene, the year is 2032 and each team needs to find a way to feed the smart cities of Sci-Valley. In Sci-Valley they are driven by technology, landfill is non-existent and instead waste is composited to heat homes. Reusing and recycling is the new norm. Whilst Sci-Valley has taken commuting to the sky, supply routes haven鈥檛 seen the same shift and now SAP鈥檚 partner ecosystem need to find a solution to the increased shortage of food and many other necessities blocked by traffic and their rapidly growing population.听

Atos won the Boundary Breakers category for the most impactful solution with its 鈥業ntelliwaste鈥 pitch, which incentivised waste management with a credit-based consumer portal which allows the organisation of recycling with collections. The more sustainable collections cost听less credits and less sustainable cost more credits. We then had NTT Data as runners up, with its solution for an integrated closed loop citizen-centric smart city.

For the 51风流BTP Prodigy category, which celebrated the team who showed the best use of technology, Deloitte came out as winners with its idea for an optimised transport supply chain. The idea centred around creating a web experience to track flight paths of the drones as well as being an insights and data hub for waste management and city distribution in real time. Incture was runner up with its vision of an end-to-end SCM and waste management solution.听

Finally, IBM won the Vision Masters category for the most innovative solution focusing on vertical farming. With this it utilised the Business Technology Platform to produce real time insights on the benefits of vertical farming on the environment. Delaware came second with its on-demand drone food delivery service solution.

To ensure that we had experts to cover each category, we chose both internal and external judges from various backgrounds. We had representatives from ERP Today and the 51风流User Group as well as 51风流customers Transport for London (TfL) and BorgWarner.

鈥淚t was great to see such a bunch of clever people using the BTP technology for the benefit of the society and a lot of things may be applicable to TfL.鈥 – TfL.

Following the Hackathon, we鈥檒l be continuing with 鈥楬ack to Build鈥 which will help our partners look to implement their pitches into their own futures as well as their own ecosystems, helping to leverage meaningful strategic capabilities and build a better future.听

We thank our participating partners who joined us for our Hackathon and contributed some incredibly innovative ideas, as well as our judges for taking the time to carefully consider each pitch. To find out more from the winning teams, along with Nadine Elsham, and Vivien Boche from SAP, listen to our or watch the replay of the challenge .

51风流joins other global corporations committed to bringing social enterprises into their supply chains to promote a fairer society and a more sustainable planet.

LONDON, UK September 28, 2021 (NYSE: SAP) today announced that it is expanding its social impact by joining a new pan-European initiative launched by , aimed at making supply chains fairer and more sustainable.

Diversity, inclusion and sustainability are higher than ever on the agenda for procurement professionals as leading corporations look to their purchasing power as a means to achieving positive social and environmental outcomes. In a push to contribute to an inclusive and sustainable post-COVID recovery, forward-thinking companies are opening up their supply chains to social enterprises 鈥 businesses with a social or environmental mission. Now a new partnership of global corporations and social enterprise bodies promises to make this form of trade far more common across Europe in the years to come.

A global movement of businesses trading for people and the planet

Social enterprises are businesses which trade for people and the planet. They reinvest the majority of their profits into their social or environmental mission, helping to bring about fairer and more inclusive economies and a more sustainable planet.

Social enterprises can be found in almost every country across the world, and here in Europe, the European Commission is becoming an increasingly strong supporter. The European Action Plan for Social Economy, due to be published later this year, will outline ways in which the Commission intends to support social economy actors and social enterprises to start-up, scale up, innovate and create jobs.

UK trade between corporations and social enterprises reaches record high

An increasing number of social enterprises operate in the business-to-business space, delivering high-quality products and services to corporate clients across a wide range of categories 鈥 from employee benefits to events management, from recruitment to recycling, and from signage to software development.

In the UK 鈥榮ocial procurement鈥 鈥 the sourcing of goods and services from social enterprises 鈥 has taken off in recent years, spurred on by the success of the Buy Social Corporate Challenge. Launched in 2016 and led by Social Enterprise UK, the Buy Social Corporate Challenge now has 27 large businesses signed up, representing every major sector of the UK economy. Over 拢165 million has been spent to date with social enterprise suppliers by the participating businesses, and despite the challenges of the pandemic the level of annual social procurement spend hit its highest level yet in 2020.

Peter Holbrook, CEO of Social Enterprise UK, said: 鈥淭he global social enterprise movement is thriving, and on every continent social enterprises are taking on the biggest social and environmental problems, and often making key contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals. Procurement leaders at large businesses have really stepped up in the last few years to build social enterprises into their UK supply chains, and I am delighted to see that our corporate partners are now focusing on creating opportunities for social enterprises across Europe.鈥

High-profile companies aim to boost social procurement across Europe

    • Nikolaus Kirner, Chief Procurement Officer at SAP, commented: 鈥淎s we continue to see the impact brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, both economically and socially, we believe now, more than ever it is imperative that we transform our supply chain to generate social and environmental impact through engagement with social enterprises. With partnerships already in the UK, Canada, Australia, USA and the Netherlands, we are excited to continue expanding our social impact through this initiative. Together, this is how 51风流and our partners Help the World Run Better and Improve People鈥檚 Lives.鈥
    • Dominic Blakemore, Group CEO of Compass Group PLC, commented: 鈥淲e believe social procurement is essential for a successful future. Across many of our regions, in particular the UK and USA, we鈥檙e already seeing first-hand the incredible social impact we can drive for communities, clients, customers and colleagues. Now, we鈥檙e looking forward to expanding our work globally alongside the other three business involved in this important pilot.鈥
    • Phil Soderberg, Head of Procurement and Vendor Management at Zurich Insurance Group, said: 鈥淭he Buy Social campaign has had a hugely positive impact in the communities we serve. Our spending with a stationery and talent development provider, for example, has helped transform over 1,000 lives around the world through programmes addressing gender inequality and social mobility. The campaign has also generated enormous energy inside our procurement organisation, and we are keen to expand the programme into other markets where we operate to make it a core pillar of our global sustainable sourcing drive.鈥

A database of approved suppliers has already been launched, allowing the companies to connect with a growing number of recommended social enterprises across the whole of the EU + Switzerland region. Germany and Ireland have been identified as countries where the social enterprise supplier base is more mature and where the opportunities to make rapid progress are even greater. Euclid Network members Social Entrepreneurship Netzwerk Deutschland (SEND) and Social Enterprise Republic of Ireland (SERI) are strategic partners supporting the delivery of the pilot, accelerating corporate engagement even further with leading social enterprises in Germany and Ireland respectively. One such organisation is Speedpak, a contract packing and fulfilment provider based in Dublin, which delivers logistics and e-commerce fulfilment services to a range of manufacturers and online retailers.

European corporations and social enterprises operating across the EU + Switzerland region are being invited to get in touch to find out more about the plans and get involved. Contact Andy.Daly@socialenterprise.org.uk to find out more.
