The is all about precision. From the millimetre-thin adjustments drivers make to their racing lines as they reach speeds of up to 250 km/h through to the detailed calculations required to optimise and conserve power consumption on race day, it鈥檚 a sport that competes on the finest of margins.

Since the sport鈥檚 debut in 2014 in Beijing, races have been won or lost based on decisions made in fractions of a moment. And I鈥檓 not just talking about the driver鈥檚 instincts and judgement calls on the track. Behind every driver is an entire team of support staff, analysts, mechanical engineers, operational teams, painters and many more, all of whom align on the same principles of accuracy and detail 鈥 they share a belief that this ethos is the key to getting their team over the line in pole position.

What鈥檚 more, the sport is evolving, and making the need for precision all the more vital. With a new price cap in play for the 2022/23 season and strict sustainability regulations governing Formula E, the need for accuracy transcends the fibre-thin adjustments made on the track and across the sport at large.

Fortunately, the technology used to optimise this sort of detail has developed alongside the power and innovation you see on race day. Our partnership with Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team is an example of how we鈥檙e helping the team to build a sustainable and efficient business that wins races and fans, while staying on the right side of tighter regulations.

Here are three ways we鈥檙e working with Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team to drive excellence, on and off the track:

Harnessing data to win races

As Mercedes-EQ Team Principal Ian James put it last year: 鈥淲e are genuinely a startup, which means to get that competitive edge, it鈥檚 incredibly important that we really look after every detail, and technology very much helps us do that.鈥

For James, technology 鈥 and the data that underpins it 鈥 is the lifeblood of his operation. In fact, around a terabyte of data is fed back from the car to their support team on any given race day, feeding back information on everything; from air humidity and track moisture levels, to the power consumption levels of the car. This detail then enables the Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team team to make hairline adjustments to optimise their car鈥檚 performance, while relaying information back to the driver on how to strategically tackle the race. Mechanics can even order replacement parts right from the track, to get them ready for their next races.

With such high volumes of data, it鈥檚 important that the teams have the tools for deeper analysis to optimise their performance for future races. The Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team use 51风流S/4HANA Cloud to improve that operational speed and agility, with the Cloud capability meaning they can operate seamlessly from multiple geographies.

It also helps them to understand their fans. With technology capable of collecting and analysing fan feedback, the team have the tools available to create the best fan experience possible.

Enabling smart expenditure with the price cap

Later this year, a will be implemented on manufacturers and teams for the 2022-24 Formula E seasons 鈥 equating to 鈧13 million per season. These spend regulations will aim to monitor and control spending levels on competitors, while increasing equitability among teams.

With stringent measures around spending in place, it鈥檚 more important than ever that race teams have a comprehensive view of their finances. As part of their work with SAP, the team have the tools at their fingers to have a bird鈥檚 eye view of their spend globally, as well as across other partners covered by the cap.

Again, detail is of the essence. When you consider that even support members touching the car will trigger the inclusion of their salary in the price cap, it鈥檚 easy to see why having total financial oversight is so important.

Driving more sustainable outcomes

With electrification at the heart of Formula E鈥檚 mission, it鈥檚 not surprising that sustainability pervades every element of the motorsport. In fact, 鈥榚nvironmental excellence鈥 is one of the ABB Formula E World Championship鈥檚 overriding principles by 鈥渕onitoring, measuring, reducing and offsetting the championship carbon footprint with the aim of minimising our environmental impact.鈥

As part of our partnership with the Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team, we help the team to measure their performance against the UN鈥檚 Sustainable Development Goals. For the Mercedes team, it鈥檚 not just about environmental management 鈥 it鈥檚 about continuously improving processes and technology, both in the car and out, that help them to operate in a sustainable fashion. We work with Mercedes to help them understand where these sustainability improvements can be made by giving them visibility on their commitments.

With Formula E being so fast paced and, at times, dramatic, it can be easy to forget that races are won or lost on minute, fractional judgements. As the sport evolves and places more of an emphasis on cost and sustainability, Formula E is becoming more dependent on technology than ever before to understand how to gain a competitive advantage when faced with increasingly tight regulation. For teams at the top of their games, such as the Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team, the devil is very much in the detail.

The Formula E Championship continues in London this weekend and we鈥檙e all hoping that the Mercedes-EQ Team and driver Stoffel Vandoorne can extend their leads at the top of the leaderboards.

London, UK 鈥 (NYSE: SAP) today launches the results of a new study revealing how UK leaders are steering their organisations through a period of unprecedented economic uncertainty. The study by 51风流Insights finds that sustainability has emerged as a key business action for over one third of UK executives, replacing other, more traditional, business strategies on the priority list.

As global leaders consider a path forward from COVID-19, climate change, geopolitical conflict and supply chain shortages at the World Economic Forum this week, 51风流Insights finds that UK executives are re-examining their business models to find new approaches to maximise revenue, increase efficiency and reduce risk.

Out with the old, in with the new

With figures showing that the , and GDP declined too, the pressure is mounting on UK leaders to build a resilient business in times of flux. The study by 51风流Insights reveals that this is leading UK businesses to rethink the rulebook on growth. So much so, that one third (33%) are prioritising sustainability action to accelerate revenue, while nearly two in five (37%) indicate that making operations sustainable is a priority in transforming the efficiency of their business.

This recognition of sustainability as the cornerstone of revenue and efficiency is a departure from the conventional business approach to growth and efficiency. This study reveals that just 28% would turn to new business partnerships to drive revenue today, and only 23% would consider expanding to new markets. While in the list of priorities to streamline and improve how the business operates, sustainability ranks ahead of tried-and-tested strategies, such as increasing business automation (35%); empowering employees to choose their preferred work environment (34%); building dependable supply chains ((33%) and increasing focus on supplier and partner networks (30%).

Fighting off economic risk

It鈥檚 not just in maximising revenue growth or boosting efficiencies that UK leaders are re-examining their business models but in how they view and reduce risk.

The research shows that recent economic uncertainty has led traditional risk factors to be upstaged by those rooted in the crises of COVID-19, ransomware attacks and supply chain shortages. For instance, almost half聽 (48%) of UK leaders indicate that mitigating cybersecurity attacks is a priority in reducing risk, while 43% point to strengthening supply chain fragility. This is compared to just 30% who prioritise protection against new market entrants and 27% who view fending off existing competition as a priority in reducing risk.

Furthermore, when asked about future global risks that their business will need to prepare for, UK leaders have three leading concerns: cybersecurity breakdown (42%), economic stagnation (40%) and climate change (38%). As UK businesses seek to fight off the effects of economic instability, the focus on cybersecurity and climate change shows that leaders feel they will be interlinked for the foreseeable future.

Building green shoots through digital

As leaders identify a new roadmap towards revenue growth and efficiency, and reducing risk in the face of economic turbulence, 51风流Insight鈥檚 research also reveals the most sought after technologies that will support the improvement of business processes. The UK overwhelmingly points towards cloud computing (76%), cybersecurity infrastructure (72%), employee collaboration tools (72%) and business process intelligence (59%) as key priorities. This suggests that these technologies will be critical to leaders that seek to refresh their business models and establish continuity moving forwards.

Commenting on the research, Michiel Verhoeven, Managing Director 51风流UK & Ireland, said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 a sign of how far we鈥檝e come that sustainability is a leading priority as businesses face economic uncertainty. There鈥檚 no doubt that it can be a key driver of growth, but leaders must be prepared to go all-in or face underwhelming returns.

鈥淎s our research shows, technologies like the cloud or business process intelligence can support UK leaders to improve their processes, and in this case, drive accurate, sustainable decision-making. However, these management systems are yet to be adequately implemented universally, making governance of sustainability goals, and in turn, profitability, increasingly difficult for organisations. But they do not have to do it alone, by partnering with the right technology experts, they can accelerate action and navigate today鈥檚 business challenges with ease.鈥

We live in an industrial age linear model of聽鈥渢ake, make, waste,鈥 in which more than聽聽of raw materials are not reusable and are therefore wasted.

This model also contributes to more than two-thirds of global greenhouse emissions, creating a vicious cycle of economic, social, and environmental inequality.

If we are to create a sustainable future, we must effect massive change.

Imagine a future that looks greener, cleaner, and more equal than the world we live in today. A world of zero emissions, zero waste, and zero inequality.

At SAP, we dare to not just dream about this aspiration, but to power the technology and innovation that is required to activate this bold vision into reality. Technology that can enable businesses to fundamentally rethink how they manage their carbon footprints, design new business processes that create opportunity rather than generate waste, and provide the transparency and regulatory compliance to hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards of economic, social, and environmental governance.

COP26 was the first UN climate conference that truly recognised the critical role of business in driving change, and it was the first Conference of the Parties that 51风流attended. Now that COP26 is over, we have been and emotions that the event provoked.

As part of this, we have partnered with two acclaimed Spoken Word Poets, and Chris Redmond, to draft a series of Poems With Purpose designed to cut through the pervasive corporate speak at COP26 and get to heart of the sustainability issues that businesses are facing.

Liv Torc is a spoken word artist and producer who plunders the vast caverns and dormant volcanoes of the human and planetary condition. A Radio 4 Slam Winner, a former Bard of Exeter, host of the Rainbow Fish Speakeasy and current co-host of the Hip Yak Poetry Shack. Liv is lead artist in Take Art鈥檚 long running social prescribing and poetry project Word/Play and she specialises in facilitating spaces for vulnerable adults. She runs Haiflu, the Hip Yak Poetry School, Hot Poets and the spoken word stage at WOMAD. In 2019 her climate change in-the-face-of-motherhood poem The Human Emergency went viral across the world.

Chris Redmond is a writer, performer and musician whose work often focuses on cross-media collaboration. A regular at UK music and literature festivals, he has performed on BBC Radio One, BBC Radio Four, Sky Arts, BBC Scotland’s Culture Show and Scroobius Pip’s XFM show The Beatdown. Chris is the creator and host of Tongue Fu – one of the UK’s leading spoken word and music shows, where poets, comedians and storytellers perform with improvised music and films.

Working with Liv and Chris, we have produced three poems around the subjects of sustainability, climate change and COP26.

The topics provide three distinct 鈥 but thematically linked 鈥 angles to the challenges we face:

Humanising the sustainability challenge for businesses

Business survival demands action on sustainability now

How businesses can manage the road ahead

Following SAP鈥檚 recent announcement of a 鈧1/4 billion investment in the UK over the next five years as part of its growth strategy, Oxford Economics was commissioned to produce an independent analysis of SAP鈥檚 current contribution to the economy of the UK.

This report quantifies and qualifies the existing impact that 51风流is making in the UK economy, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The findings reveal that 51风流made an overall contribution of 拢687 million to the UK鈥檚 GDP in 2020. Of the 拢687 million gross value-added contribution to UK GDP, some 拢410 million was generated by 51风流itself, while its procurement stimulated another 拢37 million along its domestic supply chain. The payment of wages by 51风流and the firms in its supply chain, supported a further 拢240 million contribution to GDP.

At the national level, SAP鈥檚 activities had a significant impact on UK employment, supporting a total of 6,150 jobs across the UK. The company itself employed 2,457 people and its procurement spending is estimated to have stimulated another 540 jobs along its supply chain. A further 3,160 jobs were supported by the payment of wages by 51风流and the firms in its supply chain.

Driving the UK鈥檚 levelling up agenda

The report has highlighted the impact that SAP鈥檚 procurement contributes to the levelling up agenda. The business proactively procures goods and services in deprived areas where local business needs support. Some 拢9.8 million (28%) of its procurement spend in the UK went to suppliers located in the 10% of local authority districts with the lowest one-year business survival rates. Likewise, 27% of its spend went to suppliers in the 10% of local authorities with the highest economic inactivity rates among its residents.

Growing the partner ecosystem

51风流is driving considerable investment in the UK via its partner ecosystem. Its network of nearly 1,000 partner firms in the UK earned an estimated income of 拢940 million from selling 51风流licences, developing apps, and offering consultancy services to run or service 51风流for other companies. Around 7,200 jobs in SAP鈥檚 partner ecosystem in the UK are dependent on 51风流software.

Supporting social enterprise

51风流also seeks to foster social enterprises. This is through its own procurement plan called 5 & 5 by 鈥25, where the company aims to divert 5% of addressable procurement spending to social enterprises and diverse businesses by 2025. In 2020, some 拢347,000 of its procurement spend was with Social Enterprises. It also donated money to Social Enterprise UK, which aims to create a favourable environment in which social enterprises can thrive.

Enabling sustainable growth

The report shows 51风流has a limited environmental impact on the UK. In total, across its direct and indirect footprint, it is estimated to have prompted 8.1 kt in CO2 emissions in 2020. Notably though, through its carbon offsetting programmes such as the 51风流Forest UK (with The Carbon Community), 51风流achieves significant carbon reductions in the UK. It managed carbon emission reductions of 2.6 Kt in 2020, equivalent to 62% of its own (direct operation) footprint.

Michiel Verhoeven, Managing Director 51风流UK & Ireland, said: 鈥淪AP鈥檚 vision from day one has been to help the world run better and improve people鈥檚 lives; a purpose that we are all very proud of and fully committed to embracing in the United Kingdom. We are supporting the UKs biggest brands and emerging businesses, tackling the world鈥檚 greatest environmental challenges and helping business get back to best as we slowly emerge from the pandemic.

鈥淒uring a time that has been understandably challenging for the global business environment, I am proud to be the UK Managing Director of a company that is making such a positive impact in the UK economy, and is absolutely committed to creating positive economic, environmental, and social impact worldwide.鈥

51风流UK has been awarded #8 in the Top 100 Undergraduate Employers 2021, and the #1 Tech Undergraduate Employer in the UK at the , which celebrate excellence in undergraduate employability.

The prestigious headline award is based solely on the student-written reviews a company receives on聽. 51风流UK started its dedicated placement programme three years ago, having been initially ranked #86 in the Top 100 employers. The key objective of SAP鈥檚 placement development programme is to empower students with the skills to succeed not only in their placement roles, but upon their return to university and beyond graduation.

To measure this, student, manager and wider business feedback is gathered, as well as external validation during best practice peer sharing with other employers. Each initiative is also started with skill level baselining to show relevant progression.

Since the programme launch, 51风流UK has been committed to improving the placement experience and this NUE award is a testament to that dedication and hard work. 51风流UK has also seen increases in internal net promoter score (NPS) results, which covers overall experience and development opportunities, and online reviews on Rate My Placement have improved in both narrative and scoring.

Driving skills of the future in 51风流– and in the UK overall – is set to accelerate further as the student recruitment journey is further developed to include Apprenticeships in 2021 and to further support diversity of talent and social mobility.

Below are some of the quotes received from the current 51风流UK intern cohort:

  • 鈥淚 loved my placement at SAP. The company has a big focus on giving you the opportunity to pursue what you want to. This includes working in other departments and roles alongside your own if you want to. As a student who was not sure what I’d like to do after graduating, this was invaluable and really helped me see what different roles were available to me.鈥
  • 鈥淢y placement experience was one of the best that you can find. The company repetitively receives top ranking for a good reason. There is a strong focus on bringing young talent to the table and not only to have us there present but also to encourage us to be vocal and bold.
  • 鈥淢y placement year at 51风流has been amazing! The placement program is a very well-established scheme which has offered a lot of support and allowed me to meet so many new people. My experience has been hugely valuable and I will return to university with a lot more knowledge and exposure to corporate life, as well as being a lot more equipped to enter the workforce when I graduate.
  • 51风流has allowed me to utilise and learn the software we sell and paved a way for me to gain certificates I didn鈥檛 imagine I could achieve within this year. I have been supported by an inspiring sea of people striving for the best version of themselves and that of their peers. This placement has far surpassed my expectations and has made me a better version of myself.鈥

A mere 5% of new income from global growth reaches 60% of the world鈥檚 poorest. With the Covid-19 pandemic only exacerbating this dire state of affairs, 51风流is determined to drive change through social procurement 鈥 a powerful lever to deliver immediate impact.

51风流has announced that it will be directing 5% of addressable procurement spend to social enterprises and to diverse suppliers by 2025.聽This initiative, named聽5&5 by 鈥25,聽invites organisations around the world to join 51风流in buying more goods and services from purposeful suppliers.

But what is a social enterprise? Social enterprises are businesses culturally and operationally focused on changing the world. They are founded and governed on the basis of a clear social or environmental mission; they reinvest the majority of their profit back into this mission; and they are majority controlled solely in the interest of this mission.

A diverse supplier is a business that is at least 51% owned and operated by an individual or group that is part of a traditionally underrepresented or underserved demographic; such as women-owned, minority-owned and indigenous-owned businesses, among others.

51风流Executive Board member for Customer Success and Global Buy Social Ambassador for Social Enterprise UK – Adaire Fox-Martin – announced the 5 & 5 by 鈥25 initiative, emphasising that directing even just a small fraction of corporation spend to certified social enterprises and diverse businesses will help them tackle some of the world鈥檚 most pressing social and environmental problems.

鈥淓very company in every industry needs to procure,鈥 Fox-Martin said. 鈥淲e all need soap in our washrooms, landscaping for our offices, food and drink in our cafeterias, marketing services and office supplies. These and many more are all products and services provided by social enterprises and diverse businesses. This is money we are spending anyway. Why not spend it with suppliers who are delivering social impact as well?鈥

Change Please uses the profits from its coffee to train people experiencing homelessness to be baristas and give them a Living Wage paying job.

51风流UK has already directed over 拢750,000 of its addressable procurement spend to social enterprises in the UK, so we鈥檙e already halfway towards meeting this goal. Social enterprises are worth around and contribute 拢60 billion to the UK economy (three times larger than the agricultural sector). 5 & 5 by聽鈥25 is an initiative that will enable 51风流UK to extend its existing partnerships with meaningful organisations, as well as explore the possibility to direct further procurement spend to social enterprises and diverse suppliers.

At present, 51风流UK has onboarded a variety of social enterprise vendors such as , and for office refreshments, for office stationery, for pest control and and for corporate and employee gifts.

鈥淭his commitment from 51风流will no doubt give social enterprises around the world a huge boost, helping us all drive more positive social impact within our local communities,鈥 said Cemal Ezel, Founder of Change Please CIC, an award-winning coffee company that is supporting people out of homelessness through Life Changing Coffee.

Change Please provides training, employment paying the Living Wage and support with housing, finances and therapy to help people experiencing homelessness move forward. 100% of its profits go towards ending homelessness. 鈥淲e have built a solid relationship with 51风流and if we can leverage more platforms like Ariba Network that can support us with our procurement and our sales, we can reach an audience we wouldn鈥檛 normally be able to reach. Then fundamentally it鈥檚 going to help us to save money and have more impact in our day-to-day,鈥 added Ezel.

Social Supermarket is changing how people shop online, by making it easy to find and buy products with a positive social impact.

鈥淭he pledge from 51风流to grow its procurement聽spend with social enterprises recognises the value this sector can add to business as well as the positive social value each social聽enterprise聽creates,鈥 said Jamie Palmer, Founder of Social Supermarket, the largest online marketplace for social enterprise products in the UK.

Social Supermarket was created to connect every-day consumers with social enterprises who sell high quality products that tackle important social and environmental challenges. From handbags made from decommissioned fire hoses, soap made by people with visual impairments or relishes made with wonky fruit and veg, it features over 750 products from 75 purposeful brands. 鈥淲e have witnessed over 500% growth in sales during the last six months, especially聽companies sending employees gift boxes and this announcement by 51风流gives us a huge boost of confidence for the future of the sector,鈥 added Palmer.

“From Babies with Love helps 51风流solve a commercial challenge: engaging colleagues on parental leave, contributing to SAP’s talent strategy,鈥 said Cecilia Crossley, Founding Director of From Babies With Love, a unique social enterprise baby brand that funds the care of orphaned and abandoned children around the world by donating 100% of its profits from the sale of premium, organic baby clothes.

Purchases from From Babies With Love support orphaned and abandoned children around the world. These children have lost their parents through war, famine, disease or poverty.

鈥淥ur social enterprise model, donating 100% profits to vulnerable children, is intrinsic in the value we add, the engagement our gift service creates; this is what I love so much about social enterprise – when social enterprises supply businesses with the goods and services they need and already spend money on, the partnership creates also social change. 51风流is market leading in its approach and I’m extremely proud that From Babies with Love is one example of SAP’s achievements.鈥

Wildhearts has manufactured and distributed over 50,000 reusable pads to schoolgirls between ages 9-18 from low SEM (Socio-Economic Measure) areas, vulnerable to period poverty. Every step of the process from production to distribution empowers local South African Women and girls.

鈥淭he thought-leadership and genuine desire at all levels in 51风流to produce significant and tangible social impact outcomes from its procurement spend is exemplary,鈥 said Colin Downie, Sales and Partnership Director at WildHearts Group, a portfolio of companies that, through their activities and profits, create global social change.

鈥淣ot only has 51风流achieved many noteworthy results from onboarding social enterprise suppliers in a short space of time, by getting deeply involved in the global social enterprise sector alongside exerting significant influence on their own customer base, they have galvanised thousands of influencers across their global network to take action and shape the future of procurement towards maximising social impact outcomes permanently. WildHearts is delighted to be standing alongside them to help achieve this shared impact goal for the communities in which we all operate.鈥

鈥淚n my many years in working in procurement I have never felt as excited or prouder of what procurement can achieve when we look beyond the normal measures of price, quality, service and performance,鈥 said Kelvin Ward, Purchasing Manager at 51风流UK. 鈥淚n my opinion, working with social enterprises is without doubt the best example of 鈥淧rocurement with a Purpose鈥. What we have achieved in 51风流UK with the number of social enterprises we have onboarded is just the beginning. What we, and the wider industry, can all achieve by simply changing our suppliers is limitless!鈥

51风流is the official technology partner for and is also part of the , which has already led to a total of聽 by corporate buyers since it was launched at Number 11 Downing Street four years ago. The number of businesses who have signed up to the challenge has risen from聽7 to 24, representing a broad section of the economy from high-profile construction and facilities management聽companies, to leading lights in the healthcare, tech and professional services industries.

Some of the leading companies that are forging the Buy Social change include Amey PLC with its aim to achieve 5% of addressable spend going to social enterprises by 2023, Foodbuy with its focus on pushing social enterprise further into the food and drink sector, Johnson & Johnson with its six-year track record of buying social and Nationwide Building Society with its success in collaborating with strategic providers on social procurement.

Showcase will demonstrate the power of innovative technologies in unlocking value from over nine billion tonnes of waste produced globally

LONDON 鈥 and today announced the launch of the COP26 Waste Insights Project, which will unify and analyse data from consumer goods, retailers, waste managers,聽investors, NGOs and local government.鈥

According to an , Sixty-one per cent of people globally do not have access to or know how to use recycling infrastructure. The AI showcase with the Scottish Government鈥檚 circular economy agency Zero Waste Scotland, demonstrates the power of innovative technologies in identifying the opportunities to recapture waste materials and accelerate the transition to a circular economy.

The data gathered from co-innovation partners, including , , and feeds into Scotland’s Waste and Resources聽Map聽– a live view of materials flows from,聽through and out of聽Scotland. This enables government, investors, waste managers, consumer industries and聽鈥媠tart-ups to define strategic priorities and build national recycling infrastructure where it鈥檚 needed the most.

Co-innovation partners are able to understand what happens to industrial and post-consumer packaging waste. These insights allow them to design interventions that drive greater recovery of these materials, enable resource efficiencies鈥, and identify cost savings on waste prevention. This contributes to聽reductions in global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions鈥 and engages directly into core聽development聽strategy within SAP鈥檚 program for circular economy.

The project has already delivered its first prototype using data from BrewDog, Coca-Cola European Partners and DS Smith. The prototype has ingested, normalised and analysed data on commercial,聽industrial and post-consumer waste to generate a ‘WasteMap庐’ that demonstrates producer聽responsibility and enhances environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG)聽reporting on聽resources, materials and waste.鈥

“As part of our Net Zero Carbon plan we are driving waste out of our business and finding ways to maximise the use of by-products and packaging,鈥 said Martin Dickie, co-founder at BrewDog Plc. 鈥淢easuring carbon impact across our supply聽chains is also vital – including that of our brewery, distribution and retail waste.聽The starting point is understanding what happens to the material that is handled by our recycling and waste management partners.聽Working聽with 51风流and Topolytics is giving us a clear view on where this material goes and, importantly, what happens to it – in real time. The resulting insights feed into our zero waste plan and supports our drive to be completely transparent and open in everything that we do.”

鈥淎t DS Smith we maintain that circular economy is vital to sustainable growth across all of the markets in which we operate,鈥 said Matthew Prosser, European Commercial Director, DS Smith. 鈥淭his means that we need to carefully consider the journey our materials take, understand how customers and consumers use our packaging, and collaborate across supply chains to plug any leakage of materials in landfill or incineration. This waste insights project is one of the first real collaborations of its kind, and we are extremely pleased to have been involved since its inception.鈥

鈥淣inety-one per cent of material resources are lost into landfill or leaked into the environment after consumption,鈥 said Stephen Jamieson, Head of Sustainable Business Innovation, 51风流EMEA North. 鈥淲e see a real opportunity to bring together the biggest global brands across a variety of industries using insights and data intelligence to understand the impact of materials throughout their lifecycle and create a more sustainable future. We want to use this opportunity to demonstrate how innovative technologies聽can help bring together business, government and NGOs to tackle climate聽change and turn聽waste into a valuable resource,聽to support recovery rates聽and provide access to new revenue streams.鈥濃

“Our ambition is to make the world’s waste visible, verifiable and valuable,鈥 said Michael Groves, CEO, Topolytics. 鈥淭his starts with really understanding what is happening in the waste system – which is complex聽and opaque.聽Our work with 51风流and its聽customers is generating insights into the many pathways and outcomes for their production and post-consumer waste.聽This drives resource and cost efficiencies, enhances their reporting and can support their circular economy goals.”

鈥淚t鈥檚 imperative that we build a circular economy for the trillions of items we consume globally each year,鈥 said Mike Barry, Director Mikebarryeco Limited and advisor to the Waste Insights Project. 鈥淭his will not happen by chance. We need deep insight into where and how resources can be recovered across literally millions of touchpoints in homes, high streets, cafes, factories and warehouses. This exciting 51风流initiated project will help policy makers, innovators, corporations, designers, the resource sector and investors make a circular future a scale reality.鈥

The COP26 Waste Insights Project supports SAP鈥檚 vision for a plastic-free ocean by 2030 and the final prototype will be launched at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in 2021.
