It has built a massive global audience, with more than 200 million social media followers, up to 75,000 spectators in attendance at every men’s league home match, and a growing fan base for its other teams, including women’s soccer and men’s basketball.

Keeping FC Bayern at the top is no mean feat, and the action on the pitch is supported by a global administrative team of over 1,200, in addition to the thousands of operational staff who work to deliver a seamless experience to the fans who fill the Allianz Arena for each home match. The focus on match-day operations encompasses everything from security to ticketing to retail, as well as managing one of the largest parking garages in Europe, which accommodates up to 12,000 cars that must enter and exit within a few hours.

FC Bayern’s match-day operations generate a staggering volume of data, but capturing and making sense of every fan interaction鈥攂oth in the stadium and among the hundreds of millions tuning in worldwide鈥攚as becoming a herculean undertaking. Fan data was siloed in more than 50 legacy systems, creating a fragmented information landscape that hindered FC Bayern’s ability to understand and serve its legions of fans.

Thankfully, a club that has been in the business of winning for over a century is no stranger to innovation.

Game plan: data

, head of Development and Process for FC Bayern Munich, captured the club’s challenge in a nutshell: “Everything needs data.” Everyone from the firefighters and police who supported match days to the IT teams and retail staff “needed data, and everyone needed the same perspective on the data,” Winter explained.

But the club’s data was sprawled across dozens of siloed systems, each tied to different vendors and service providers. And when it came time to make crucial match-day decisions, team members had to rely on analog, piecemeal methods of sharing information鈥攐ften through SMS and radio. As a result, no one ever had the same information at the same time.

FC Bayern needed to harness its vast amount of information with a single, integrated system that provided a unified, 360-degree view.

From silos to a streamlined system

The storied sports club has enjoyed a partnership with 51风流dating back more than a quarter of a century. Therefore, (51风流BTP) was a natural fit for the next step in the club鈥檚 digital journey. For example, Winter explained, the club now has access to an up-to-the-minute, “high-level” overview of FC Bayern fans鈥”how they behave, what they鈥檙e interested in, how old they are, whether they buy jerseys, whether they only go to soccer matches, whether they are already interested in basketball,” and more鈥攖hat has facilitated a much deeper understanding of fans, not only on the individual level but also across the entire fan base.

Forecasting the future

With a solid, integrated data foundation established, FC Bayern is looking ahead and will be adding AI to its technology line-up to maximize the value of its data across the organization, from amplifying process efficiency to developing robust, data-informed predictive capabilities.

For organizations looking to undertake their own digital transformations, Winter advised to not put the cart before the horse: “To use AI, you need to have good data.” And while Winter cautioned that every organization’s process is unique, he recommended listening as a good first step for everyone: “Talk to your users. What are their problems? What do they need to know? What processes are they trying to optimize?”

While the journey is not always easy, FC Bayern knows that winning is always worth the effort.

Bekaert aspires to become a people- and data-driven company. This requires a thorough strategic and cultural transformation, in which artificial intelligence plays a crucial role. To get started, the company set priorities, leveraging the already available in its existing HR solutions such as 51风流SuccessFactors solutions. By focusing on a few embedded AI use cases and creating a stand-alone AI tool on top of that, it started exploring and seeing the AI benefits.

First use case: the AI Master Data Assistant

Together with its long-standing partner and , Bekaert worked along a human-centered approach to innovation to identify opportunities and use cases. One of these identified use cases was a stand-alone AI tool that Bekaert used for HR data improvement. This tool was not integrated in the existing software landscape and required of users to extract and import data. 

To improve this laborious process, Flexso helped design and build a custom AI solution, called AI Master Data Assistant, with the help of 51风流AI Core in 51风流Business Technology Platform. This new solution has been fully integrated with 51风流SuccessFactors solutions, using 51风流Integration Suite. Currently, the solution uses a specific AI model from generative AI hub in 51风流AI Core. However, the flexibility with various models offered through the generative AI hub capability would allow the partner to use another AI model for this solution in the future.

Who benefits from AI in HR at Bekaert?

The AI Master Data Assistant allows the Bekaert HR teams to enhance data quality by automatically identifying, correcting, and preventing errors in employee records. The assistant can detect inconsistencies, duplicates, and missing information, ensuring that all data is accurate, complete, and up-to-date. In practice, it means that users can enter natural language prompts to get proposals for improvement. Via chat-like conversations, they can standardize formats, correct errors, and validate entries in real time.

For innovation projects, Bekaert usually rolls out new solutions gradually first through a number of role-specific use cases, then deploy them indiscriminately across the organization. For the new AI Master Data Assistant, the HR business partners and HR admin roles benefitted first.

The Watches of Switzerland Group is a leading luxury watch retailer with a reputation for quality and exclusivity. With operations spanning the UK, U.S., and parts of Europe, its portfolio of brands has been a trusted name in luxury timepieces for decades. The journey to 51风流BTP as a partner-managed cloud model

At the beginning of the engagement, the English watch retailer relied on an enterprise architecture including legacy systems such as on-premise 51风流ECC 6.0 systems and middleware built in-house. Limited IT resources made scaling difficult to meet business demands for faster project delivery and modern integrations.

Bluestonex Innovation Factory

With the foundational work completed, Watches of Switzerland decided to further expand its adoption of 51风流BTP services, integrating more business processes and scaling globally. But what were the core business processes? Where was the room or even need for improvement to deliver best-in-class customer services, be successful overall, and remain on top of things in the luxury retail segment?

So, along the , Bluestonex Innovation Factory team organized a user research journey visiting six representative Watches of Switzerland Group showrooms, shadowing employees and observing different processes in the context of purchasing, customer inquiries, deliveries, commissioning, and many more.

After visiting the different showrooms, one observation was that requirements could vary considerably from one to another, simply because of different locations and customer profiles. In some showrooms, it was mainly about selling middle-priced watches and attending several customers at a time; in others, it was about serving one customer with specific needs for a purchase of a very expensive and unique piece.

Incorporating insurance options with the help of 51风流Integration Suite

Despite all the differences, there is one requirement the researchers observed, that spanned across all customer engagements. That is the wish for an appropriate insurance option for the purchased watch. The Watches of Switzerland Group and Bluestonex decided to realize this integration of an insurance option in its service processes through 51风流Integration Suite.

In just two weeks, the insurance integration went live as scheduled, allowing the Watches of Switzerland Group to meet crucial business demands without sacrificing quality or functionality. With 51风流Integration Suite, Watches of Switzerland Group is now positioned to continue modernizing its technology stack in alignment with its strategic vision. This scalable solution can evolve with their future needs, including a potential transition to 51风流S/4HANA.

With the proven hands-on methods to prioritize and align different solutions to these goals the joint team was able to map goals to short-term and medium-term actions.

It has been challenging, though, for women entrepreneurs and their businesses to be visible in the global marketplace. Equally, it had been difficult for buyers dedicated to diversity and inclusion to identify best-in-class women-owned suppliers.

The company, headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, does not shy away from , including plans to realize over a half-billion euros in revenue from biobased products by 2030. With an eye on the future, the company adopted a strategic perspective of digital transformation, one that would not only enable business continuity but create a platform of innovation. 

What does the Intelligent Enterprise for the chemical industry look like?

As of June 1, 100% of Kemira is live on 51风流S/4HANA, a transformation which also included a platform update into Azure Cloud. Kemira did not stop there. It introduced 51风流Datasphere for reporting where the company is on a journey to adopt a next-generation core enterprise data warehouse solution. On the front-end, Kemira has implemented 51风流Analytics Cloud for reporting, analytics, and financial planning. In addition, over 360 interfaces have been converted to 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP), leveraging 51风流Integration Suite. All in, the digital program consisted of five initiatives, including an 51风流S/4HANA transformation, a redesign of financial accounting, an enterprise data warehouse implementation, a digital data excellence initiative, and a migration of the on-premise interfaces.聽

Kemira appropriately called the program LEAP, a representation of the investment it was making in the future of its company and the ambitious timeline and scope of the effort. Innovation played a central role, considering how the company could enable the business with new technology and ultimately drive the business to operate more efficiently. It was no small feat that the very successful big-bang go-live, including a move to Azure, was done in 15 months. Kemira worked with cbs Corporate Business Solutions on this journey, a strategic partner of the company for over a decade.

The approach to the program was to do a selective data transition from Kemira鈥檚 51风流ERP Central Component (51风流ECC) system to 51风流S/4HANA. To initiate the project, the team did a comprehensive pre-study to determine what processes to migrate to 51风流S/4HANA as-is, which new processes will be enabled, and what new capabilities will be delivered. This approach helped balance the focus and scope of the project, a key element of driving fast value. For example, by leveraging some processes as-is, the team was able to focus on new capabilities like the 51风流S/4HANA margin analysis, delivering tangible business results. The work paid off with a very smooth go-live, which covered 400 plants in 37 countries to ensure business continuity, and was enabled by the strong collaboration of many talented people at Kemira and cbs.聽 聽

鈥淐onsidering the extreme complexity of the organizational change, data harmonization and optimization, ONE Finance transformation, migration of interfaces, and innovations in the cloud, we managed the program extremely well. We successfully completed the transition to a completely new platform in just 15 months. This can result in multiple applications that create siloed processes and data. Even more complex, companies鈥 IT landscapes exist in the cloud, on premise, or, more likely, a hybrid of both. The volume of applications and mixed landscape is complex and costly, and this 鈥渟paghetti landscape鈥 can be an obstacle to digital transformation.

That鈥檚 where integration capabilities become a critical success factor. Analyst firm IDC released its 鈥.鈥 The report found that 鈥淚ntegration is a foundational connectivity automation technology that not only unlocks immediate business benefits but also replaces technical debt that was previously used to connect applications, making it easier to replace outdated legacy applications.鈥

Consider this customer story. is a food chain based in Veghal, the Netherlands, with stores across Belgium and the Netherlands. Previously, Jumbo used an Excel-based tool called Production Advice List (PAL) to forecast its freshly made baked goods, convenience items, and prepared meals. This manual process resulted in inaccurate forecasting, unhappy customers, and food waste.

Food waste is a significant global sustainability issue. It wastes the natural resources used to produce and transport food to consumers 鈥 and rotting food produces methane, a greenhouse gas. In the Netherlands alone, over of food is thrown away annually per individual.

To improve its sustainability and customer experience, Jumbo decided to digitize its PAL system using (51风流BTP), which includes integration, automation, and data and analytics solutions.

With , a cornerstone of 51风流BTP, 鈥淧AL 2.0鈥 automatically brings together historical information with current data from 51风流and non-51风流applications. Now employees can analyze real-time information on pricing, promotions, assortment, and other factors to accurately forecast how much food should be stocked.

Even better, employees get this information on their iPads so they can make better decisions while on the go. This intelligent forecasting system has allowed the company to work towards achieving the delicate balance of ensuring product availability for customers while not overstocking.

Jumbo鈥檚 story provides a few lessons. One, as IDC points out, integration helps reduce technical debt. Companies can leverage existing applications to add value to their business versus legacy applications creating a 鈥渄rag鈥 on their resources. Two, integration drives innovation. They can also track and follow up on orders and deliveries. The second success story is that of a customer supplying blood pressure monitors. Each monitor is supplied to patients with a license key, which the patient registers online at home so they can access their device and the medical staff can know which device is linked to which patient.

In the past, it was someone鈥檚 role to manually supply each patient with their serial number and input that data into a master spreadsheet. As the customer already had a contract in place 鈥 and therefore there was no development project 鈥 delaware came in and created a one-time-use business-to-consumer (B2C) portal. The portal is now the centerpiece of a completely digitized process that allows the patient to submit their serial number, keeps everything logged in one place, removes the need for e-mail communication, and isn鈥檛 blocked when someone is away.

鈥淭he beauty of our architecture is we can apply it to create these small applications,鈥 explains Belliot. 鈥淎nd the beauty for our customers is that, with just a few extra licenses, they can start using 51风流BTP. Farys鈥 business and sustainability transformation was the focus of a recent LinkedIn Live roundtable discussion, “.” Moderated by Maribel Lopez, CEO of , the session featured Inge Opreel, CIO of Farys, and Aneesha Shenoy, COO of 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP).

Next, she recommends that companies start with smaller projects that organizations can learn from. For Farys, the first use cases centered on harnessing Big Data generated by smart meters. But this approach was new and Opreel鈥檚 team helped shift employees鈥 mindsets from managing smaller data volumes to considering the new opportunities provided by advanced data management and analytics. 鈥淪how your business units what benefits are possible with the power of data by giving examples and advice,鈥 said Opreel.

More recently, Endress+Hauser added additional services and software solutions as it has embarked on its journey from a manufacturer to a digital service provider.

One important milestone in Endress+Hauser鈥檚 digitization has been the modernization of its customer onboarding process. Each customer has unique requirements for its measurement equipment and customers have a variety of enterprise resource planning (ERP) and procurement systems from different vendors, often with customization, that require tailored integration processes. Let me share some of my personal favorites across various lines of business 鈥 such as HR, finance, commerce, and operations 鈥 where people are experiencing more streamlined, intelligent, and human-centered work.

Customizing Cloud-Based HR Integration for Tax Credit

A great example of how our customers and partners extend HR capabilities in the cloud relates to the聽听补苍诲聽聽solutions, which are part of聽. The suite provides powerful cloud-based solutions for core HR and payroll, talent management, employee experience management, and people analytics.

By directly integrating 51风流SuccessFactors solutions with APIs and intelligent services, HR organizations can assess, validate, and process new hires while determining whether their business qualifies for a Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC). WOTCs allow U.S. companies to receive federal tax credits every year they hire employees who systematically experience significant barriers against employment.

Although the recruiting and core HR solutions do not include the means to track and validate individual new hires, they contain the framework to build those capabilities. 51风流partners can leverage integration workflows available in 51风流BTP and use them to connect the two 51风流SuccessFactors solutions to the digital job application. Our customers can then schedule assessments with frequent intervals, read applicants’ qualifications, and prompt candidates to complete a WOTC assessment, and the results from that evaluation are updated in the related 51风流SuccessFactors solution.

This scenario exemplifies how partners can leverage 51风流BTP to introduce capabilities 鈥 which may not be a standard function in the existing software 鈥 into current business processes. Many of our customers and partners have taken advantage of this opportunity to streamline related workflows, connect relevant business entities, and deliver an experience-first approach to HR.

Closing the Gap in Dispute and Grievance Resolution

An under-served area in most HR technologies is the employee dispute and grievance resolution process. For example, one of our partners helped a customer develop an application that settles and handles grievance cases with greater transparency.

By tightly coupling聽听补苍诲 51风流BTP, the partner solution emulates the core solution experience. When launched from an 51风流SuccessFactors solution, the look and feel of the partner application is consistent for the user. The interface is developed with聽听补苍诲 the聽聽design system, while the integration is enabled by the 51风流Platform Identity Provider service for 51风流BTP and the Identity Authentication service.

Through this co-innovation effort, our customers can address various grievance types that represent unique workflows, approval processes, and business scenarios 鈥 operated smoothly with the聽聽service. As a result, our customers can improve auditability and accelerate the entire resolution process. They can trace a grievance throughout its lifecycle from the complaint to resolution, standardize information gathering, and conduct an organizational-level review of complaints and their progress in real time.

Optimizing the Use of Talent, Anytime and Anywhere

By extending the core HR capabilities of 51风流SuccessFactors Employee Central, our partners also develop applications that help improve resource management and utilization. In return, our customers can assign the right talent to the right projects with a real-time schedule, built by reading a project-related business system, such as 51风流S/4HANA.

In this case, 51风流BTP smoothly integrates employee leave data, skill set information, and details on organizational needs. Plus, different approval processes are made available through 51风流Workflow Management.

Extending core HR capabilities in this manner allows details, including assignment duration and employee proficiency, to be considered when assigning employees to projects and roles 鈥 helping to ensure every person can contribute to their fullest potential. Similar implementations of this use case can also help customers develop workflow applications related to security clearance, visa applications, and work permit processes, to name a few.

Maximizing the Product Life Cycle with a New Business Model

Speaking of improved resource contribution and utilization, the fashion industry is discovering a better way to recapture US$460 billion in value lost to discarded clothing each year. In this use case, retailers embrace an online rental business model that adds new revenue streams, making the business more competitive, and reduces their carbon footprint, resulting in improved consumer trust and loyalty.

Under a similar product lifecycle use case, one of our customers integrated its back-office system with an e-commerce portal by using intelligent technologies such as robotic process automation (RPA). Using聽听补苍诲 51风流BTP, the retailer integrated and automated its rental order fulfillment and return processes.

Detecting Anomalies in Business Operations to Prevent Fraud

Historically, procure-to-pay processes are fraught with excess payments, operational risks, rising costs, incomplete audit verification, arduous recovery efforts, and noncompliant purchasing behaviors. But 51风流BTP enables our partners and customers to overcome these challenges with tip-based alerting, rules-based detection, and pattern-based prediction.

Organizations focused on tackling these issues integrate their offerings with the聽聽solution, 51风流Fiori user experience, runtime application self-protection for 51风流BTP, and 51风流BTP, Cloud Foundry environment. They can then decipher data-driven patterns to identify new anomalies and fraud types and customize red-flag thresholds based on criticality and risk tolerance. Furthermore, finance decision-makers can learn from user feedback by using the intelligent data capture and processing solution to continuously improve fraud detection practices.

AGL recently partnered with 51风流AppHaus Network member Bourne Digital to create the AGL One iOS app. Based on 51风流Integration Suite and 51风流Extension Suite, the app brings together AGL鈥檚 employee network in a single digital experience so they can access the right tool at the right time — every time, from anywhere. Powered by 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP), the solution recently won a 51风流Innovation Award in the Transformation Champion category.

Growing Company Needs Enhanced Digital Infrastructure

In June of 2019, AGL launched PT3 (People, Process and Performance Transformation), its initiative to unite all AGL sites across corporate and group operations into one technical platform. The initiative also aimed at delivering greater mobility and enabling AGL staff to work flexibly with mobile applications on their phones or tablets.

After first launch, however, user feedback showed the need to improve the solution and explore ways to better enable employees digitally.

AGL decided to examine employees鈥 user experience (UX) to help ensure a better adoption of the new platform. Clear focus of the new solution would be consolidation and ease of use. After a complete redesign of the mobile interface, AGL wanted to extend the strong relationship already in place with customers to the people who worked for the company.

Bringing in 51风流AppHaus Network Member Bourne Digital

AGL consulted with the same firm that helped design its customer experience, Bourne Digital. As an 51风流AppHaus Network member, Bourne Digital is part of the worldwide community of like-minded SAP-partners that work with customers in a creative environment to make innovation real, following 厂础笔鈥檚 human-centered approach to innovation.

As a first step toward the new solution for employees, AGL tasked an internal service design team with replicating the service design process for employees鈥 mobile app. With the help of its employee experience center, the joint AGL and Bourne Digital project team conducted lifecycle mapping and extensive interviews with staff to discover the following key issues with the existing mobile interface:

  • Too many tools in the environment made it hard for the employees to identify the correct tool for each situation.
  • The usability of the previous solution was not simple and prevented proficiency.
  • The solution missed data consolidation of several sources.
  • Employee engagement was low due to dissatisfaction with the efficiency of the tools.

AGL One: iOS App Simplifies Employees鈥 Lives

Employees wanted a straightforward, consolidated, easy-to-use mobile experience. AGL and Bourne Digital worked with Apple to create an iOS app called AGL One. The feedback collected in the interviews was used to create a completely redesigned mobile employee interface. Based on 51风流Integration Suite and 51风流Extension Suite, the app now brings together AGL鈥檚 employee network in a single digital experience.

It has been a wonderful innovation story that puts employees at the center of the organization. The Bourne Digital 51风流AppHaus facility supported employee experience design thinking sessions.鈥

One-Stop Shop for All Actions

The project team held a number of design thinking sessions at Bourne Digital鈥檚 AppHaus facility in Melbourne to re-imagine the employee experience.

Building on its existing investment in 51风流S4/HANA with 51风流BTP, the AGL One app combines a landscape of more than 300 IT applications into one single interface with only one main login to use. Even when employees want to switch back and forth between apps, they do not have to re-login and remember different passwords every time. Once signed in, the UX itself is聽 accessible to the average employee, so they do not have to know specific tool names or apps to use them.

Built-in capabilities within AGL One prioritize tasks that are easy to do on the go, such as administrative tasks and approvals. This helps reduce cycle time on tasks that are often put off and need to be followed up on, making employees鈥 workdays more productive and efficient. Key features of the app include:

  • Quick access to action all purchase order approvals in 51风流S/4HANA
  • Assessments of workplace safety and reports available on the go, with the option to use a phone’s camera to add a photo and record safety observations or hazards in 51风流S/4HANA
  • Personalization of the homepage for quick access to tools the employee uses most often
  • Desk booking with desk locator, particularly following COVID-19 restrictions
  • Holiday and leave request entry and management
  • New colleague appreciation tool called 鈥淓nergise鈥
  • AGL news service with talking points, friends and family discounts, and easy access to AGL job boards to be active ambassadors outside the company
  • Live news feed along with integration to 鈥淭he Source,鈥 AGL鈥檚 news and intranet
  • Seamless third-party collaborations between 51风流back end and Apple user interface

By building an app expressly for its employees, AGL has successfully placed their user experience on the same priority level as its customers鈥. AGL One supports a positive, streamlined experience for employees, whether at the office or in the field. After rolling out the app, the company has seen a motivation and engagement boost at work among employees. The app was released in October 2020 and the number of downloads speaks for itself: 1,600 out of 3,700 employees have downloaded the app so far, an adoption rate of nearly 50%.

鈥淲hen we first started this project, we looked at it the same way we鈥檇 look at anything we were doing for our customers,鈥 explained Joy Marrocco, IT Transformation Manager at AGL. 鈥淲e already had a great relationship there, why not apply that same approach to our employees? We wanted to drive digital adoption of employee tools, and this app is one of the ways that we are working to make access to these tools much quicker and easier for our people.鈥
