Cloud Technology Empowers Ugandan Island Community

Eighty-five percent of Ugandans are involved in agriculture.

Nassozi Berna and her husband were subsistence farmers growing cassaba, banana, and some coffee and living in a small, timber-framed house on Kalangala, an island in Uganda鈥檚 Lake Victoria. Like many other farmer on Uganda’s Kalangala Island, Berna started growing oil palm in 2012 and joined KOPGT, the Kalangala Oil Palm Growers Trust. KOPGT, which educates farmers on improved agricultural practices, recognized the need for a digital solution to meet the rising demand for palm oil. In 2017, it discovered 51风流Rural Sourcing Management, a cloud-based solution running on 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP) that allows the trust to digitally collect and manage data at every stage of the value chain.

This technology has enhanced price transparency and accelerated payment for the farmers. Now, with the integration of聽 51风流Analytics Cloud and 51风流Business One, KOPGT can streamline operations and save valuable time, ultimately focusing on what matters most: the community they have helped build.

Beer with a Purpose: Quartiermeister Chooses 51风流Business One /2021/06/quartiermeister-chooses-sap-business-one/ Thu, 24 Jun 2021 12:15:59 +0000 /?p=186262 Environmental and social responsibility are becoming priorities for more and more people across the world. Companies and consumers alike are increasingly looking for answers to all sorts of problems society faces.

German brewer wanted to do something different, too. Based in Berlin鈥檚 Kreuzberg district, the brand鈥檚 selling point is that it is Germany鈥檚 first beer with a purpose. Comprising a limited company and an association, the social enterprise was founded in 2010. Its idea is to donate 10 cents of the price of every liter of beer sold to cultural projects in the local community. Sales of the socially-conscious beer, which is brewed at a number of locations in Germany, have benefited more than 160 projects to date. The business is entirely transparent to its customers, who vote online for the projects they want to see funded. The limited company takes care of procurement, marketing, and sales; the association鈥檚 job is to allocate funds to the chosen projects.

More Growth Means More Money for Local Projects

Quartiermeister and 51风流first joined forces as part of the initiative. Through this social entrepreneurship initiative, 51风流wants to help solve the world鈥檚 biggest social problems by drawing on its people, technology, data, and vast customer and partner ecosystem. All these resources together create a portfolio of lean, sustainable startup ventures to bring about positive change.

Quartiermeister decided to deploy enterprise resource planning (ERP) software to help it expand and run its operations in a more professional way. Growing its business means it can generate more money. The more money it earns, the more community and cultural projects it can fund.

This is why Quartiermeister is looking to expand its operations to all regions of Germany. To achieve its growth ambition, it needs an ERP solution. It also wants its processes to be transparent and more efficient. That would give it more capital and more time to invest in achieving its ultimate goal: business that benefits everyone.

Small and midsize companies in particular have unique needs that require a specific solution. By expanding its local partner ecosystem, and through the and solutions, 51风流is helping the midmarket tap into new opportunities. Moving to the cloud with an ERP solution such as 51风流Business One and the support of an implementation partner offers security, scalability, and a smooth transition.

Strong Partner for Tailored Solutions

After they first began working together in 2019, 51风流put Quartiermeister in touch with , an 51风流partner. Together, they devised a plan to find a standard yet scalable 51风流solution for Quartiermeister. Here, too, the social enterprise鈥檚 values came first. UNIORG has vast project experience and recognized how important it was to understand the customer鈥檚 needs and help it meet them. 鈥淲e are pleased that 51风流Business One provides a small social enterprise with a commercial and technology platform that it can use to make its operations more digital and therefore more professional. It gives it the scope to expand further so it can support more community projects and focus on its core idea,鈥 says Frank Hoischen, head of Sales for 51风流Business One at UNIORG Group.

was the clear choice. It is ERP software that 51风流has tailored to the unique requirements of small and midsize enterprises. It has the main functions these businesses need, and they can add almost any other functionality they want through cloud offerings from 51风流and add-ons. 51风流Business One can run on premise and in the cloud. UNIORG also built an add-on for breweries that maps their specific processes. Quartiermeister placed its order at the end of January 2020 and the implementation began soon after.

The project got underway in February 2020 鈥 only for it to be brought to a standstill a few weeks later by the . With the entire hospitality sector closed, revenue nose-dived. In August, the partners began work on the project again. After a test phase, the new software went live in January 2021.

This project shows the strength of working with 51风流partners:

  • Solutions tailored to the needs and wishes of the customer
  • All parties pulling together to respond to unexpected challenges
  • Post-go-live support and optimization of processes to help ensure customers get the most out of their investment

The ERP Solution as an Investment in the Future 鈥 More Beer for More Good Causes

The project benefited not just the business but the community, too: 聽helped Quartiermeister streamline its processes, making it more efficient. By reducing the workload in this way, the enterprise can free up potential. What is more, management now has more reliable information about its various markets, which it can use to focus on strategic goals and drive its expansion across Germany.

鈥51风流Business One has enabled us to keep growing, keep doing good, and support more community projects. We now have every confidence that all our business processes are running smoothly behind the scenes,” says David Griedelbach, cofounder and managing director of Quartiermeister – Korrekter Konsum GmbH.

Even though the pandemic is still restricting public life, in implementing an ERP solution has taken the next step toward digitalization, laying the foundations for future growth and more positive social impact through the sale of beer with a purpose.

SMEs: Small CO2 Footprint, Big Climate Impact /2021/04/carbon-footprint-of-smes-impact/ Thu, 15 Apr 2021 12:15:36 +0000 /?p=184485 More than 90% of the world鈥檚 businesses are small and midsize enterprises (SMEs), and their combined CO2 footprint, while not easily calculated, exceeds that of large enterprises.

The challenge this presents is huge, but so are the rewards. In Europe alone, .

Change in the Air

SMEs have compared with large corporations. But change is in the air. Pressure to act is as large companies pass their requirements on to suppliers.

BMW is a case in point. In July 2020, the German auto group of well over 10,000 suppliers, with the goal of reducing emissions per vehicle produced by at least one-third. The company uses carbon footprint as a criterion for awarding contracts for everything from materials and components to production equipment and tools. 鈥淥ur aim is to ensure the most sustainable supply chain in the entire industry,鈥 says Oliver Zipse, chairman of the Board of Management at BMW.

BMW鈥檚 German competitor Mercedes-Benz announced that more than 75% of its suppliers are committed to supplying CO鈧-neutral parts to help it achieve its 2039 ambition of CO鈧 neutrality.

Other examples of large enterprises that are working with their suppliers to reduce carbon footprint include and . Nearly half of CEOs at large companies are targeting sustainability in their business operations, according to the .

But it is not only the supply chain leaders that are adding climate action to their corporate policies. Increasingly investors, shareholders, consumers, and employees are looking to business to adopt ambitious climate-related targets. Countries, cities, states, and provinces are also adding to the pressure. Over or are planned worldwide. National and international regulations may soon require to be provided on product labels and descriptions.

Open Questions Without Adequate Answers

Matthias Weigold is familiar with the complex world in which SMEs currently find themselves. The director of the Institute for Production Management, Technology, and Machine Tools (PTW) at the Technical University Darmstadt is partnering with German manufacturers to test scenarios for energy efficiency and flexibility in manufacturing processes based on the availability of renewable energy sources.

鈥淢any SMEs hear their primary customers saying, 鈥楧o something about your carbon footprint and do it fast.鈥 They are faced with a mountain of open questions without adequate answers,鈥 he explains. 鈥淪MEs also know that if they react too slowly and without the necessary level of detail, they could lose their most valuable customers.鈥

To satisfy the demands of their customers for low-carbon production, SMEs will increasingly need to adapt their manufacturing operations to the pricing fluctuations associated with the energy mix of fossil and renewable energy. The scenarios are no longer hypothetical, according to Weigold: 鈥淓xceptionally led wholesale electricity prices to go negative in Germany.鈥

Complicating the situation are the myriad national policies and timelines worldwide, says Weigold, who provides an example. 鈥淥ver 80% of the machine tools made in Germany are exported, with the lion鈥檚 share going to manufacturers in China. Now that , German SMEs are unsure how they should react.鈥

At the which makes it possible to test various production scenarios under real-world conditions, 51风流and PTW are modeling enterprise resource planning (ERP) software to the manufacturing environment.

鈥淏y bringing two worlds together — the business software layer and the operational layer — we can influence the efficiency and flexibility of manufacturing processes,鈥 Weigold says, adding that it is the first project of its type worldwide.

Turning Climate Action into a Competitive Advantage

51风流expects the cooperation with PTW to help it refine its new software package that enables CO2 accounting for SMEs over the entire supply chain. The solution makes it possible for companies to manage the CO2 footprint for each product by combining their existing ERP system — for example, 51风流Business One or 51风流Business ByDesign — with an energy flow model for the process. 51风流partners worldwide will be responsible for applying the solution to customers鈥 individual and industry needs.

that SMEs are prepared to manage their carbon emissions if they have the necessary support and tools. The recently launched is a brokerage for such resources. With a growing number of members, the hub could serve as a vital part of the implementation of ambitious corporate climate action.

Emissions are typically divided into three categories, or . The main targets of 51风流Business Ecology Management are the Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions of SMEs, which directly impact the upstream Scope 3 emissions of their customers.

Jochen Mayerle

鈥淪upply chains make up the part of the carbon footprint, which are not under direct influence of a company, but have the highest reduction potential because they give organizations insight into the hot spots in their supply chain,鈥 says Jochen Mayerle, business process architect, SAP.

Mayerle emphasizes that the new product is designed to be easy to use and its implementation does not require the hiring of an expert in sustainability. Niels Hermansen, founder of the Danish 51风流partner BitPeople A/S, based in Denmark, agrees. 鈥淚 like that 51风流has taken the initiative in this area,鈥 Hermansen says. “It understands that SMEs have the same requirements as big companies, but do not have the same resources.”

51风流Business Ecology Management is currently being testing by numerous customers and is planned for launch the third quarter of 2021.

51风流Is Successful When Partners Are Successful /2020/12/finn-backer-interview-sap-customer-partner-success/ Tue, 29 Dec 2020 13:15:15 +0000 /?p=181944 For 16 years, Finn Backer has led the small and midsize enterprise (SME) team within the Global Partner Organization at SAP. Focusing on what partners need and what is considered business critical to them, he and his team provide a best-in-class enablement experience for SME partners.

Helping and supporting partners to build sustainable businesses around 51风流solutions is his mission. With his global team of 51风流Business One and 51风流Business ByDesign experts, Backer acts as an enabler and trusted advisor for partners.

Q: Can you tell us about yourself, your hobbies, and your passions?

A: I was born and raised in Norway, and currently live in the Netherlands. I enjoy experiencing the world by traveling, working in an international environment, and following the world news.

I feel fortunate to have lived and worked in five countries: Norway, the U.S., the Netherlands, England, and Germany. Every country is beautiful and unique, providing new perspective and appreciation.

I am married with three children; my two boys study at university and my daughter is in high school. Of course, in these times, they are learning at home via Zoom. The positive aspects of these unprecedented times are that my wife and I get to see the kids more, spend a lot of time together, and enjoy family dinners. My wife, who works for a leading health technology company here in the Netherlands, sometimes meets me at the coffee machine, where we have our own 鈥渃offee corner chats.鈥

Our family is completed with our dog Odin, who usually lies at my feet in the office. When I go and grab a coffee during a conference call and come back, the dog is usually sitting on my chair, staring at the moving pictures on the screen.

When I鈥檓 not working, I enjoy getting fresh air and resetting my mind by biking through the trails in the forest. I make people laugh when I speak about 鈥渕ountain biking鈥 in the flat countryside of the Netherlands. I also try to go the gym a few times a week to stay in shape.

What does an SME Partner Enablement leader do?

I manage a global organization of about 80 51风流Business One and 51风流Business ByDesign experts located in more than 40 countries. We train partners on how to sell, implement, and support 51风流solutions. We also help 51风流account executives and partners in presales with strategic deals, and we deal with customer escalations if they occur. For 51风流Business One, we are also heavily involved in ensuring the solution is localized, current, and maintained.

As manager of the team, my main role is to align with global stakeholders on our objectives, cascade these to the organization, and support everybody in the team to meet their specific objectives and assignments.

I am also involved directly with our partners. My task is to create transparency and give guidance to partners on 51风流strategies and solutions, supporting them to make the right decisions for their companies. If partners make good decisions, they will be successful. And when partners are successful, 51风流is successful.

How did your career start?

I graduated from Arizona State University (USA) in 1992 with a Master of Business Administration degree and a Master of Science degree in business statistics. I started my career at a company called Exact Software in the Netherlands, as a technical support employee. I assisted customers on the phone, answering their questions and solving problems related to their Exact ERP solution. Later I ran an international 鈥渇lying doctors鈥 team, a group of fantastic product experts taking care of the worst customer escalations worldwide.

I joined 51风流in 2004 to help build a small and midsize enterprise business. 51风流had just purchased a company called TopManage and renamed its solution to 51风流Business One. At that time, 51风流Business One had about 3,000 customers. 51风流was looking for someone to build up a team, to support and enable an indirect channel to resell 51风流Business One internationally.

Sixteen years later, we now have over 65,000 customers. For me, it has been an amazing journey so far, having worked with many great people within an incredible company. I also enjoy working with 51风流Business One partners, of whom many also started 16 years ago and have since then built great businesses for themselves.

Two years ago, I also assumed the responsibility for all 51风流Business ByDesign partner enablement teams within SAP. We鈥檝e drawn lessons from 51风流Business One and are applying these best practices with 51风流Business ByDesign as we get more involved with our 51风流Business ByDesign partner community.

Looking back at your career at SAP, what has been your biggest achievement?聽

My biggest achievement is definitely the . We organized the first event in Bratislava in 2014 to teach partners how to develop on top of the 51风流Business One application that works with and is powered by 51风流HANA, which we were launching to the market at that point in time.

We did not have any professional event management. I remember having many worries: Will enough people register to cover the costs? Will partners like it? Will the pitch for 51风流HANA work in SME? Will the presentations be good enough? There were logistical concerns, too, regarding lunch and having enough chairs.

The event turned out to be a big success, and we realized the power and importance of bringing people with the same passion together. The energy at the event was amazing; seeing the smiles on the faces of all the participants when they left the summit was very rewarding. We decided to make it an annual event, and over the years we added more tracks to cover additional roles from partners, such as implementation, sales, CEOs, and others.

How did COVID-19 affect you, your team, and your work over the past months?

For the last 10 years I have mainly worked from home, except when traveling, which was about 25 percent of my time. So at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was not a big deal for me. The only exception was that I had to dress up a little bit more; in the past 10 years, I hardly used my webcam, but now everybody has started to use webcams more frequently.

Today, nine months later, I have to say that the days have become very monotone 鈥 almost like the film Groundhog Day, where a TV weatherman covering the annual Groundhog Day event in Pennsylvania becomes trapped in a time loop, forcing him to relive the same day repeatedly.

Staying at home all the time is not my preferred choice. It is interesting how, these days, a one-hour trip away from home and staying in a hotel overnight feels like a big trip. Hence, getting out of the house in the evening for an hour of activity became super important for me.

As for the team, I am grateful for and amazed at how well people adjusted and how hard everybody is working to continue to stay 鈥渙n top of their game.鈥 In this virtual-only world, finding ways to stay connected on a more personal basis is important. Personally, I try to speak more frequently with my direct reports. I have also increased the number of 鈥渟kip-level鈥 calls, skipping the managers and speaking directly with their employees, which I enjoy a lot. In general, I think it is a good idea to set up calls now and then with colleagues you normally do not speak with, just to 鈥渇eel the pulse,鈥 get new impulses, and feel their energy.

My team and I also help partners understand how to convince customers and prospects to implement the software remotely. There are a lot of adjustments for everybody. But partners, customers, and prospects are adapting.

Looking ahead, what do you think is important for partners to be successful?

First, take good care of customers. More than ever 鈥渞ecurring revenue鈥 is key. And happy customers ensure this. I believe that partners with many (happy) customers are able to survive COVID-19 better than others. I think 51风流Business One and 51风流Business ByDesign partners in general understand this dynamic and they all do a good job, as the renewal rates for both solutions are very high.

Secondly, many partners have unique knowledge in a specific industry or micro industry, and I recommend capturing this knowledge as intellectual property and software services. With the current web-based development tools and platforms like 51风流Cloud Platform, it is much simpler than before, even for more resell-oriented partners.

Finally, I think it is important for partners to embrace the Intelligent Enterprise opportunity. I am very encouraged to see partners extending solutions with innovative functionalities and add-ons, with new technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI), positioning themselves as a 鈥渢echnology partner鈥 instead of the 鈥淓RP guys鈥 and consequently winning prospects because of their understanding of the new world. Customers need more than just ERP software, and we can own this. !

Brazilian Startup Eureka Is Optimistic About the Future of Coworking Spaces /2020/12/brazilian-startup-eureka-coworking-spaces/ Thu, 03 Dec 2020 14:15:19 +0000 /?p=181146 If you thought that coworking was a non-starter during a pandemic, think again. is a Brazilian-based startup bringing people back to their offices with a commitment to safety, flexibility, and sustainability.

Headquartered in S茫o Paulo, Brazil, Eureka Coworking has offices in the city and its environs, as well branches in Portugal. Location has become even more important during the pandemic.

鈥淭his is the perfect moment for us because most people lack sufficient space to work at home in a professional manner, and our locations, nearby bike lanes and within walking distance of neighborhoods, help people who want to ride bicycles or walk to work,鈥 said Daniel Moral, co-founder and CEO of Eureka Coworking. 鈥淲e talked with our clients and decided to open together using safety measures.鈥

Hackathon Surfaced Innovation Amid Pandemic

Among those safety measures will be a graphical space management tool designed to help better manage Eureka鈥檚 coworking spaces in the wake of the pandemic.

It was the winning entry in a sponsored by 51风流and Intel to co-innovate solutions on top of for a post-pandemic office. Moral expects the tool would help its clients meet social distancing regulations, dynamically adjusting desk locations and meeting room configurations as worker capacity changes. The hackathon attracted two Intel partners that iterated Internet of Things (IoT)-based examples 鈥 most notably a hacked coffee machine, cameras for monitoring social distance, and a totem thermometer for real-time temperature measurement.

鈥51风流and Intel have a long history of co-innovation, partnering with a diverse ecosystem, as well as customers, to create disruptive solutions together,鈥 said Gisselle Ruiz Lanza, country manager at Intel Brazil. 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited about this incredible opportunity to help drive partner innovation that will meet fast-changing market demands.鈥

In other ideas developed as part of the hackathon, onsite workers could use a mobile app to order coffee from a machine with IoT-based sensors. The app would send an alert when the brew was ready for pickup at the in-office coffee station. Another prototype would use cameras to monitor communal spaces, reminding people with alerts on their mobile devices to maintain social distancing.

Fast Post-Pandemic Response

Early on, Eureka began using world-class social distancing protocols and developed a to share back-to-work safety best practices with clients and the general public. Everyday safety measures in coworking spaces included a 50 percent reduction in meeting room capacity, desks spaced much further apart than before, more frequent sanitized cleaning protocols, and readily available personal protection equipment, such as masks and face shields. In every office, signs and posters remind people to socially distance, watch for symptoms of COVID-19, and stay home if they feel ill.

Scaling Up for International Growth

When asked why Eureka selected 51风流Business One, Moral credited 51风流Services and Support along with the company鈥檚 partner ecosystem, which helped them make the most of the software capabilities.

鈥淲e needed a scalable, centralized solution that would grow with us internationally,鈥 Moral said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e looking forward to making process improvements, as well as innovations, and applying them to help drive our growth across different countries. Connecting our business processes will help provide the transparency we need for better decision-making, supporting our journey to become an intelligent enterprise.鈥

Intelligent Innovation Stokes Workspace Safety

Eureka鈥檚 clients range from small entrepreneurs to large organizations across many business sectors, including real estate, marketing, legal, and other professional services.

Like many companies, Eureka faced revenue slowdowns when the pandemic first hit, but some clients have begun to slowly return.

鈥淲e are committed to bringing communities in Brazil and Portugal the kind of hybrid experience that workers and companies worldwide have long accepted,鈥 Moral said. 鈥淎s the business environment remains unpredictable, we will continue exploring ways to manage our coworking spaces intelligently and efficiently.鈥

Bon Appetit, Safely: French Firm Helps Restaurants Plan for Safe Dining /2020/07/french-firm-aumenu-restaurants-safe-dining/ Wed, 29 Jul 2020 13:15:57 +0000 /?p=177125 Perhaps only behind romance and the Eiffel Tower, France is known for its love of good food 鈥 and the communal experience of dining with friends and family. COVID-19 has had a devastating effect on restaurants everywhere. Some are staying afloat with take-out and delivery service. Those that plan on surviving are looking for new ways to keep their businesses afloat.

To increase that margin of safety, French startup aumenu worked with 51风流partner W3COM to develop a fast and efficient way to eliminate at least one source of potential contagion: the menu.

Imagine entering your favorite eatery. You are seated and a friendly waiter greets you and takes your drink order. But then, instead of handing over menus, the server motions to a QR code on your table.

You鈥檝e seen these before: a grid of small, black squares on a white background. QR stands for quick response, and you see why after you scan it with your phone and the restaurant鈥檚 menu instantly appears on your screen 鈥 touched by no one but you.

This feature alone would close the sale for most concerned restaurant owners, but the product also delivers additional value to the restaurateur and a unique experience for patrons.

Simplified Solution

QR codes are not new. Restaurants could do this work on their own, but the process of transforming printed menus into digital files is resource intensive. Plus, the quality of the labels would be poor and the cost to replace them high.

鈥淵ou can鈥檛 do high-quality printing with a home laser printer,鈥 says Guillaume Boucher, CEO of W3COM. 鈥淭hat paper can鈥檛 survive the daily, aggressive cleaning required by a restaurant. The owner would be re-printing labels constantly.鈥

The process from aumenu and W3COM takes the restaurant鈥檚 menu in whatever file they share 鈥 Word, PDF, PowerPoint, Excel 鈥 and quickly transforms it into viewable web pages, complete with tasty photos.

鈥淟ife will be very complicated for owners as restaurants re-open to the public,鈥 says Boucher. 鈥淭hey won鈥檛 have time to go on their websites and turn menus into digital files or, worse yet, start retyping existing menus.鈥

This will be a new and unique experience for customers. After scanning the QR code, diners can enter their email address if they like. This makes it possible to deliver a separate bill to each patron. It also alerts the restaurant when a loyal customer has returned. That can mean a free drink or appetizer.

The system was designed in hosted by SAP, making it easily scalable. 鈥淲e are looking for partners in countries beyond France,鈥 says Boucher. 鈥淎nd because the data in 51风流Business One is so well structured, swapping languages and currencies will be easy.鈥

Pierre-Louis Gueguen, president of aumenu, says, 鈥51风流Business One is at the heart of the service provided by our startup. It was evident to us that such a project needed a strong ERP software with a great reputation.鈥

While the technology hums quietly along behind the scenes, diners venturing out after a long lockdown will see that their favorite restaurant, caf茅, bistro, diner, bar, joint, or dive is taking smart steps to help ensure their health 鈥 as they enjoy good food.

Bringing Farm-to-Table to More People Than Ever /2020/05/ellsworth-foods-farm-to-table/ Fri, 15 May 2020 12:15:12 +0000 /?p=171350 While COVID-19 has restricted many normal daily activities, Ellsworth Foods wants to make sure good eating is not one of them.

The company provides families in the southeastern U.S. with high-quality, great tasting food that is free from unwanted additives such as fillers, steroids, and growth hormones 鈥 all while supporting local farmers, ranchers, and artisans.

Under the names and , the company is working long and hard to make sure every family receives their personalized home delivery during this time of increased need.

With more people eating at home, the warehouse and logistics teams are running extra shifts while reorder specialists are booking deliveries as quickly as possible. Ellsworth Foods also needed to use technology to ramp up and expand quickly in order to meet demands.

鈥淲e鈥檙e really grateful for the families that are trusting us to serve them during this unprecedented time and that our team has stepped up in a truly incredible way to make sure everyone is taken care of,鈥 said Mike Cohen, president of Ellsworth Foods. 鈥淲e鈥檙e operating in a whole new world and trying to navigate it as best as we can. Our people need the support of systems that can integrate and manage sales, inventory, purchasing, and accounting.鈥

51风流partner Synesis International brought 51风流Business One to Ellsworth years ago. The last few months have been particularly challenging as the company served an increasing market of stay-at-home families and people looking for resources that grocery stores are unable to provide.

To keep employees and customers safe, all Ellsworth Foods delivery personnel follow strict Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines. They wear gloves and masks, practice social distancing, and follow enhanced sanitation protocols. Ellsworth Foods even offers two new no-touch delivery options as well.

鈥淚鈥檓 really happy that we can play a small role in helping to keep our customers, employees, their families, and our community safe,鈥 said Kathleen Payne, vice president of Synesis International.

Customers Who Feel Understood Shop More, Complain Less /2020/01/impecavel-brazilian-retailer-sap-experience-management/ Wed, 08 Jan 2020 13:15:54 +0000 /?p=167299 By measuring customer experiences and understanding emotions, one Brazilian retailer is beating large competitors and maintaining brand relevance.

If you鈥檝e ever spent time in Rio, you鈥檝e probably seen a lot of well-dressed men on the street. That鈥檚 because most Cariocas, the residents of the party capital of the world, like to look impeccable.

A Hassle-Free Shopping Experience at 滨尘辫别肠谩惫别濒

滨尘辫别肠谩惫别濒, a traditional family retailer for menswear, is a favorite one-stop shop for men in Rio de Janeiro who want a hassle-free shopping experience, or for the women in their lives.

Established in 1961 when the bossa nova was at the height of its popularity and the city was in a period of socioeconomic transformation, 滨尘辫别肠谩惫别濒 has a long tradition of not just surviving but thriving in times of change.

鈥淭he market has changed completely since those days,鈥 says Rafael Sampaio, second-generation CEO of the company. He goes on to explain that since the arrival of smartphones, getting people to come into a store is a larger challenge. 鈥淚n the past, people simply had to go the store. Now, they have to want to go.鈥

Sampaio knows that today鈥檚 consumers are well informed and know what they want. 滨尘辫别肠谩惫别濒 caters to the lower middle-class segment of the Brazilian market whose purchasing power has increased substantially in the past decade.

According to a recent study by a , a more stable economy and better job opportunities mean this segment can now afford to acquire a variety of consumer goods that were previously beyond their reach. Referred to as 鈥淐lass C,鈥 this segment includes 49 percent of Brazilian households and represents 31 percent of potential consumption. The option to buy using zero-interest installment plans also helps these consumers spend more than ever before.

鈥淲e can鈥檛 afford to lose a single one of our 63,000 customers,鈥 says Sampaio. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 why it鈥檚 crucial for us to understand our shoppers and provide each and every one of them with a flawless experience.鈥 To achieve that mission, Sampaio decided to implement Experience Management solutions from 51风流(Qualtrics), which help enterprises better understand the beliefs, emotions, and intentions of their customers.

鈥淲e know that Class C consumers are loyal to their brands, so our challenge is to keep our brand relevant to them,鈥 he explains. Instead of trying to fight against big competitors like global brands, online giants, and sleek malls, Sampaio and his team decided to pursue a different strategy.

Rather than aiming to be the largest, the company strives to be the best in its category. The way to do that is to maintain a strong local presence. Like a neighborhood mom-and-pop shop or a corner kiosk, 滨尘辫别肠谩惫别濒 knows its customers intimately. The company knows what they want to wear to work, to church, and to the soccer stadium. It knows customers expect to be greeted upon entering the store, and that they want a variety of quality choices at the best price possible. Most of all, they expect a flawless checkout experience.

After implementing Experience Management solutions from SAP, the company experienced a 25 percent drop in customer complaints. Customer feedback is collected via short surveys after a purchase. The data is analyzed and shared throughout the organization on multiple view dashboards for executives, sales managers, individual salespeople, and cashiers.

鈥淲e鈥檙e actually more focused on positive feedback,鈥 Sampaio explains. 鈥淧raise is addictive. Employees who are repeatedly praised strive even harder to perform well.鈥

Sampaio wonders how he ever did business before implementing the solutions. 鈥淏efore we got this tool, we had no idea how our customers and employees were feeling. Were they happy, frustrated, or indifferent? It was like doing business with your eyes closed.鈥

Sampaio is convinced that it is not a question of whether or not a company needs an experience management tool; it鈥檚 a matter of reaching that 鈥渁ha鈥 moment when you ask yourself why you haven鈥檛 implemented it yet.

Embracing 51风流Business One

When it came to automating key business functions in financials, operations, and human resources, 滨尘辫别肠谩惫别濒 opted to implement 51风流Business One, business management software for small and midsize enterprises. Sampaio says he was pleasantly surprised at the speed and ease of the implementation and the approachability of the 51风流team.

鈥淚 never thought such a big company like 51风流would be so easy to do business with,鈥 says 滨尘辫别肠谩惫别濒鈥檚 top executive, whose main objective from day one was to be able to turn data into actionable items to stay ahead of competitors. 鈥淲ith SAP, we can evaluate the performance of each of our stores and make any necessary changes such as more training for employees or changing our range of products.鈥

Despite being a small local player, this customer-centric attitude keeps 滨尘辫别肠谩惫别濒 consistently at the top of the list of preferred retailers in Rio.
