Rethinking Learning and Change Management with a Cloud Mindset /2022/05/rethinking-learning-and-change-management-with-a-cloud-mindset/ Tue, 31 May 2022 11:15:36 +0000 /?p=197040 Moving to a cloud-based, digital 51风流platform is not just about innovative functionality. It actually ignites a complete change in how companies operate their IT landscape and how they think about their daily work. What exactly is this 鈥渃loud mindset鈥 and how does it affect learning and change management?

We have come a long way since the early days of cloud computing. When cloud applications entered the world of business IT, executives鈥 main points of consideration were pricing and costs. For the first time, companies were able to shift their capital expenditures (CAPEX) in IT to operating expenses (OPEX) 鈥 thanks to subscription models. The results were more financial flexibility, less risk, and a more reasonable taxing model. For cloud customers, there is no longer a need for owning servers, which means that there is also a lower cost of ownership (TCO) when it comes to IT investments.

In the last couple of years, more and more companies have moved their entire business to the cloud. During that time, a cloud mindset started to take shape. While there is no actual definition of what a cloud mindset is, there are certain perceptions, as a quick poll on LinkedIn shows.

Results of LinkedIn quick poll

The poll results are by no means a representation of what defines a cloud mindset. Nevertheless, they do reflect the discussion topics that arise among our clients. The diverse backgrounds of the poll participants 鈥 developers, consultants, IT managers, and users 鈥 also influenced how they voted. Employees today expect IT to be intuitive, personalized, and adaptable. IT operations are no longer here to just keep the lights on, but are expected to help transform the business, automating processes and leveraging technology and integration platforms for new cloud applications. And especially since the pandemic hit, companies have been experiencing the importance of fast adaptability of processes to rapidly changing market situations. Agility is key.

Learning in a Cloud-First World

While managers and employees alike are adopting a cloud mindset, something else is shifting as well in the cloud: our needs on how we learn new skills and how we approach change 鈥 for IT experts and users.

Agile working needs to result in agile learning.
The agile approach to working focuses on the users and their more autonomous, iterative, and collaborative way of working. It can be applied to training and learning as well. In an agile cloud-based environment, employees need to drive their personal growth more independently. They decide what, when, and how they learn 鈥 in a less formalized and more demand-driven way. Learning becomes explorative, collaborative, and iterative. That doesn鈥檛 mean classrooms and guided learning will be replaced, but they will be enhanced by formats such as bar camps, hackathons, mentoring, or learning circles.

Continuous learning is imperative to keep up with the cloud.
When the tools they use every day are constantly updated, employees need a simple, transparent, and quick way to keep up. is an answer to that need. Depending on their role and current experience, 51风流experts can learn about the latest functionality of solutions like 51风流S/4HANA Cloud, 51风流SuccessFactors solutions, or 51风流Ariba solutions, and update their knowledge in a granular way. New training content like videos or quizzes are made available for 51风流Cloud product releases through . The program offers users a more regular and shorter way to update and keep their 51风流Certifications valid.

Learning as a working experience.
Apart from the content itself, the learning experience has become crucial for user adoption. Learning tools need to be user-friendly and customizable. Whether users are learning on their own schedule and device or in the moment of need in the application itself, training must adapt to the user and the respective working context in a cloud world. One way to support this is the 51风流Companion service: employees can learn the ins and outs of an application while they are using it, wherever they are. All learning materials are provided through and can be changed and updated by knowledge experts within the company.

How the Cloud Impacts Change Management

While adopting a cloud mindset changes companies鈥 approaches to learning, it also impacts change management. Why?

In general, change management is crucial for any project 鈥 and especially when implementing or upgrading to a new digital platform. In the past, however, companies were used to a high degree of IT customization, which made change management a complex task. Time and resources were difficult to estimate and allocate, and some companies refrained from doing it all together. With the advent of the cloud, the paradigm has shifted. IT solutions and processes have become more standardized, thus also influencing change management. It has become easier and faster to plan and put into practice with the right methodology and knowledge. Now, there is no excuse not to do it.

Migrating IT processes to the cloud constitutes a large-scale change. After this initial shift come many incremental changes on a quarterly and even monthly basis, impacting how companies manage their IT operations. As hardware handling is transferred to the cloud vendor, the process and change handling is a new challenge for IT departments 鈥 which often changes their operating models as well. For example, they start combining software development and operations of their IT landscape by switching to the DevOps methodology.聽The cloud and centralization of IT also mean that employees have more central access to data to make decisions based on facts and numbers. The framework provides a guideline on how change management can be altered to accommodate these changes.

Understanding the impact of the change and the upcoming transformation is the first important step to increasing readiness. That is why 51风流considers an integral part of project implementation and works to ensure its alignment with methodologies such as 鈥 a guided process to help deploy, adopt, and extend new capabilities across an organization.

Thus, it is crucial to educate everyone on the importance and relevance of the cloud. Having clearly outlined benefits and defining expectations for every employee within their specific role will boost confidence and speed up the adoption of the software. It will ultimately also increase the commitment and motivation to change.

Developing a Cloud Mindset Is a Cultural Shift

Mindset plays a critical role in how people cope with life situations. It is a result of our values and attitudes as an individual. And these, in turn, are often shaped by past conditioning and external influences, as we are continually learning and unlearning behaviors. Effective change management therefore does not aim at changing the mindset of individual people. Rather it focuses on influencing the very culture that shapes these mindsets.

Dos and Don'ts for change management

With expert knowledge on organizational culture, change, and transformation, for example, companies can lay the groundwork for a successful shift. They need to create environments where growth can thrive and where learning and applying new mental models is just as important as unlearning old ones that no longer serve us.

Why the Way Forward Starts with the Integration of Finance and Procurement /2020/06/way-forward-finance-procurement-integration/ Fri, 12 Jun 2020 12:15:08 +0000 /?p=173720 Even as businesses enter a new normal, digital transformation is still front and center. The entire world is engaged in this gigantic global experiment that is testing the foundation to which organizations have dedicated considerable time, money, and resources to build.

No matter how integrated a business鈥 systems and processes were before the COVID-19 pandemic, significant disconnects across all organizations are beginning to emerge. For example, planning and risk analysis often lack the depth required to fully understand the potential impact and importance of critical decisions. Meanwhile, no one knows with certainty whether end-to-end workstream processes are running as efficiently as they should.

Such a situation is far from ideal for a workforce that is now primarily remote. Any hint of a complex process that is predominantly manual and highly customized with out-of-system workarounds is no longer reasonable. However, the inability to consume and deploy software cost-efficiently and fast enough is hampering efforts needed to close those gaps and ensure business continuity.

51风流is firmly committed to supporting customers as they navigate through unexpected disruptions 鈥 whether it be repatriating stranded travelers, automating contact tracing of COVID-19 patients, or countless other initiatives. A portfolio of solutions and services help businesses innovate and adopt at lightning speed with out-of-the-box capabilities and ready-to-run processes. These deployments can be further accelerated with software-as-a-service (SaaS) and cloud solutions that are supported by 51风流Model Company, 51风流Advanced Deployment, and 51风流Activate.

Uniting Finance and Procurement with Intelligence and Governance

With a global, distributed, and diverse operational ecosystem, companies can maintain analytical and operational transparency as well as control business-wide compliance. And for many companies, it all begins with the integration of finance and procurement operations.

The portfolio is uniquely qualified to help businesses overcome these challenges 聽quickly, seamlessly, and intelligently. The portfolio blends established applications with emerging technologies and draws on the latest innovations, industry experts, and ecosystem of innovators from SAP. With a strategy based on a consistent core of data and delivered through out-of-the-box functionalities and, when needed, limited customization, it brings an opportunity to further optimize operations and initiate change faster with less risk. The reasoning behind this approach is based on five fundamental principles of transformation:

  • Focus on improving processes and optimizing change management, not just enabling technology and IT platform innovation
  • Drive changes necessary to improve functionality, efficiency, and effectiveness with a business-led initiative
  • View the IT platform as an enabler of the business and its capabilities
  • Ensure innovations reflect breakthrough industry trends and value driver aspirations and expectations for change
  • Align business needs and technology investments to achieve mutual organizations goals

This mindset allows us to enable customer success through that challenge transformation journeys and reimage processes. In addition, the latest relevant industry innovations are used to support the realization of business value with a standard service option for transforming finance and procurement operations 鈥 a selective data transition with centralized processes across procurement and finance.

In this scenario, our customers maintain existing operations in legacy applications while moving adopted capabilities into two editions of 51风流S/4HANA step by step and at their own pace.

can accelerate digital transformation programs by providing a modern, innovative platform and a common user interface for centrally managed finance operations. It captures real-time financial transactions from multiple source systems to consolidate financial reporting and transactional processing without disrupting 51风流or third-party enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. The solution also comes with a set of enabling technologies that allow customers to innovate with 51风流S/4HANA Finance within a few months, depending on scope.

51风流S/4HANA for central finance foundation
Figure 1: The architecture of a single, unified finance platform (Click to enlarge.)

With the central finance solutions, our customers can gain a reconciled general ledger foundation that supports on-demand finance consolidation and analysis of key performance indicators during a specific period. They can drill down to the source line-item detail and identify errors in the closing process early on through integrated validation.

On the other side of the integration is . The solution supports organizations that require multiple business units to operate independently based on industry complexity, legal and regulation compliance, and defense and security requirements. It collects and merges procurement activity while significantly reducing the replication and consolidation of master data. Procurement activity is also combined and aggregated into a single instance of 51风流S/4HANA to increase visibility into purchasing decisions, communicate better with suppliers, analyze spend comprehensively, and foster compliance with shared services centers.

For example, the guided buying capability, available in the 51风流Ariba Buying solution, can be integrated into 51风流S/4HANA for central procurement to guide employees through requisitioning, contracts, and purchasing goods and services. Additionally, procurement data is distributed to local, operational backend systems to give organizations insight into their buying habits and budget needs.

Backend ERP and legacy system independence is another set of critical value drivers for centralized procurement. It allows business units to operate independently and retain unique business processes while leveraging the global spend capabilities of an entire organization. Negotiating global agreements and distributing them to all connected backends enable related spend from all systems to be accrued automatically in the central contract. In return, the business gains significant savings for all purchasing groups and business units.

Moving Beyond Disruption with a New Approach to Digital Innovation

Considering the pace of change right now, reporting and analytics tools must provide the visibility and insight needed to address the everyday minutia of change. This requires tight integration across the entire heterogeneous system landscape, tying together everything from legacy applications to the latest technology residing on premise and in the cloud.

This reality is what inspires 51风流Business Transformation Services to help customers succeed in challenging transformation journeys. We help reimagine business processes and support the latest and most relevant industry innovations by analyzing our customers鈥 current states, recommending the best architecture to deliver on their expectations, and defining their transformation road map. Best of all, everything we do is delivered with a commitment to realize business value on our customers鈥 terms.

Now more than ever, businesses must reduce risk and realize short-term benefits. This requires an agile approach to integrate business functions, such as finance and procurement operations, and 51风流Services and Support offerings are ready to deliver such an intelligent operation.

Off-Site Service Delivery: Advancing Digital Strategies in the New Normal /2020/05/off-site-service-delivery-digital-strategies-new-normal/ Tue, 26 May 2020 12:15:51 +0000 /?p=172095 Everything we once considered normal in our lives and businesses has been upended 鈥 creating, perhaps, the most profound digital shift we have ever seen.

From widespread use of work-from-home arrangements to a near-universal end to in-person events, a radical overhaul is happening, accelerating innovations that never seemed as critical as they do now.

Becoming an intelligent enterprise has never been more important. Executives face significant pressure to leverage technologies 鈥 such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and augmented or virtual reality 鈥 in order to automate manual activities, mitigate potential risks early on, and stay two steps ahead of their customers and competitors.

How can leaders move forward in their digital strategies to help ensure business continuity in a world where self-isolation and social distancing is the norm? At SAP, the answer is clear: off-site delivery of service and support engagements.

Experience Matters When Fueling Business Continuity with Distance Services

With a focus on delivering outcome-based results, 51风流has created a highly effective standard for the off-site delivery of 聽services. As customers face times of intense change, supporting them in any way we can is a priority for all 51风流Services and Support offerings.

However, when considering off-site service delivery, chief information officers (CIOs) often question the complexity of implementing business systems without being onsite. It is often assumed that working with a remote implementation partner would require considerable planning and governance for executing a project. Most of all, they worry that the quality of the service will be sub-optimal, requiring more time and effort to scrutinize deliverables, clarify communications, and ensure proper handover.

If these concerns are running through your mind right now, they are completely valid when working with a provider that is new to this engagement model. However, 51风流is different: it has more than 25 years of experience in fine-tuning off-site service delivery. In fact, 70 percent of all services executed by 51风流in 2019 were delivered through this experience.

Based on decades of experience with implementations, 51风流is helping customers manage a successful off-site project implementation by developing modern tools, solutions, and methodologies. These include:

  • 51风流Best Practices: Tailored specifically to accelerate and simplify the adoption of 51风流software projects, the packages furnish preconfigured content for core business processes with a role-specific, responsive, and simple user experience.
  • 51风流Activate: The methodology presents an agile, modular structure for migrations and new implementations. It supports project management teams from initial planning and requirements for implementation to continuous improvement of the 51风流solution.
  • 51风流Solution Manager: This solution manages the life cycle of an 51风流solution in a distributed environment. It offers tools, methods, and process management content that can be used during the creation of business blueprints as well as configuration and implementation.

These offerings comprise the lynchpin of 聽off-site service delivery framework from SAP. They allow the company to pull together its resources across all areas of support and expertise to create an experience that addresses customers’ unique needs. 51风流uses ready-to-run processes with documents; shares prescriptive, step-by-step deployment guidance with project teams; and leverages integrated tools for configuration and deployment.

More importantly, 聽off-site service delivery framework is designed to optimize the delivery of foundational elements of the Intelligent Enterprise 鈥 51风流S/4HANA and cloud solutions. These technologies rely on a fit-to-standard approach that prepares customers to innovate their processes, business models, and experiences faster. By following proven best practices, customers have a functionally and technically resilient platform that scales to their needs as requirements in everything from collaboration, engagement, and communication to transactional interactions evolve.

This integrated approach also takes advantage of local and industry expertise as well as technical know-how to give customers and their users the training needed to optimize the value of their 51风流software investment. 51风流tools and technologies record and provide training content that users can access at their convenience.

Core of Off-Site Service Delivery: Business Continuity, Customer Success

As businesses continue to face a marketplace that is hyperconnected, always evolving, and highly uncertain, technology will continue to play a distinct role in navigating today’s challenges and planning for whatever lies ahead. It is this reality that inspires my team every day.

With off-site service delivery, 51风流helps ensure 聽customers have the individualized support necessary to get through this challenging time and set the foundation for future recovery that will one day come. Step by step, the company stands by every one of them 鈥 never sacrificing quality, insight, and completeness.

Managing Risks, Supporting Business Continuity

In this time of uncertainty, we are experiencing a human moment: people helping each other in need. Since COVID-19 hit, 51风流has been helping customers keep their operations going. .

Next-Gen Partner Strategy Expands the Promise of Intelligent ERP for 51风流Customers /2020/02/sap-model-company-partner-strategy-intelligent-erp/ Tue, 18 Feb 2020 13:15:45 +0000 /?p=168662 Entering its fourth year of active adoption, 51风流Model Company services have evolved considerably to help customers navigate and take advantage of every technology-driven transition, disruption, and transformation.

Now, with the addition of a next-generation strategy, their partners can too.

Every new digital innovation promises to help business operations run faster, more productively, and with more scalability and impact. But getting the most value from those technologies is not always clear 鈥 especially when avoiding business disruption.

Take, for example, 51风流customers that choose to migrate their legacy to . Very quickly, they realize that the traditional model for ERP implementations cannot keep up with the dynamic nature of intelligent ERP. Everything from extensive customizations, IT-dependent decision-making, and complex user experiences to incomplete and inconsistent integrations does not match the promises of process standardization, experience management, and data trust that customers expect.

At first, 51风流offered the innovation adoption process to provide a transparent method of structured and solution-specific practices carried out in a standardized environment. Even though the self-service offering puts business users in the driver鈥檚 seat during the implementation, something was still missing 鈥 the collective strengths of IT know-how and business process expertise.

Challenge the ERP Status Quo with Control, Innovation, Partnership

Enter , an integral part of 51风流Activate in different phases within the implementation of 51风流S/4HANA. But just like the technology it supports, the serviceis always evolving.

51风流Model Company initially encompassed prepackaged, ready-to-use, end-to-end reference solutions for industries or lines of business 鈥 all aimed at simplifying and increasing the speed of 51风流S/4HANA implementations. As customers became more mature digital innovators and strategists, the services were restructured on an interoperable architecture that empowered customers to combine line-of-business and industry model companies as they require.

Meanwhile, customers still wanted the freedom to work with their preferred 51风流partners. This growing expectation inspired the creation of 51风流Integrated Delivery Framework. In return, customers enjoyed having the best of both worlds: their partners and 51风流experts carefully aligned and integrated across delivery roles, methodologies, and services. This simplified engagement framework not only helped reduce delivery inefficiencies, risk, and costs, but also helped increase the speed and certainty of expected outcomes.

Embrace a New Era of Partner Collaboration with 51风流Model Company

The evolution of 51风流Model Company has now reached a point of tremendous opportunity for customers and partners. All line-of-business and industry-specific systems designed, interoperable capabilities introduced, and the integrated delivery framework 51风流enables have converged together, allowing partners to apply the services鈥 standard methodology when implementing 51风流S/4HANA.

This next-generation model-company strategy qualifies partners on two levels:

  • Solution level: Partners are committing to use 51风流Model Company as a foundation for solution development and innovation efforts. They gain access to the partner development environment and go-to-market strategy for 51风流Model Company and 51风流Value Assurance service packages. Intellectual property (IP) developed by partners in this environment is eligible to get 51风流Model Company certified.
  • Qualification level: Partners gain access to the go-to-market strategy for 51风流Model Company and 51风流Value Assurance service packages. They can take advantage of the available education and enablement program and content. Partners entering the qualification program are eligible be named “qualified partner for 51风流Model Company and 51风流Value Assurance services.”
