How Industry Innovation Gives Partners a Runway for Sustained Success /2023/11/industry-cloud-innovation-sap-partners-success/ Fri, 10 Nov 2023 13:15:00 +0000 /?p=213303 Have you ever wondered at the workings of the modern airport and the ecosystem around it, how so many complex and disparate moving parts come together to deliver a high-quality travel experience to flyers?

Granted, those experiences aren鈥檛 always positive. But when everything is working in sync 鈥 travel and transportation infrastructure, aerospace technology, energy, retail, hospitality, and more 鈥 to create a whole greater than the sum of its parts, my thoughts can鈥檛 help but shift skyward, to another more familiar ecosystem.

Grow and find a competitive edge with industry cloud solutions from 51风流and partners

Among the many developments I鈥檝e witnessed lately as a result of SAP鈥檚 growing focus on industry innovation, SAP鈥檚 industry cloud and the partner ecosystem that supports it stand out. They鈥檙e proving my long-held belief that a high level of collaboration with partners across companies and industries, similar to what occurs at airports, can open boundless opportunities to cultivate new markets, customers, and revenue sources. SAP鈥檚 industry cloud has yielded close to 400 solutions across 25 industry verticals, 80% of which were developed by partners either on their own or in collaboration with SAP. About 1,900 unique customers are using these solutions, and they鈥檙e renewing them at a rate above 90%.

What鈥檚 driving the industry innovation momentum? And why should 51风流partners consider engaging in the co-innovation effort if they鈥檙e not already, or get more involved if they are? Here are five competitive justifications:

  1. Future readiness: A business landscape that is perpetually shifting and evolving, often in unexpected ways, demands a business mindset that embraces change and seeks out opportunities to innovate 鈥 a mindset of future readiness. A focus on industry innovation fosters future readiness on multiple levels. It gives partners a portfolio of solutions to help their customers prepare for a future where cloud solutions will be instrumental to their digital transformation efforts. One leading global consulting firm predicts that by 2027, enterprises will be using industry cloud platforms to accelerate more than half of their critical business initiatives. What鈥檚 more, working within an industry cloud environment like SAP鈥檚 can give partners themselves a future-ready model for growing their business.
  2. Business ecosystems and networks: By bringing their industry knowledge and intellectual property to a business ecosystem like the one that supports SAP鈥檚 industry cloud, partners can become a multiplier for industry innovation, moving solutions through the development pipeline and to customers faster together than they otherwise could working individually. We鈥檙e witnessing this multiplier effect within specific industries like consumer products, life sciences, automotive, energy, and industrial manufacturing, where collaboration within industry-focused business ecosystems is fueling a fresh wave of co-innovation.
  3. Modularity and integration: One of my team鈥檚 responsibilities is to maintain the industry cloud opportunity map, a comprehensive architecture of potential and already developed solutions that comprise the present and future of industry innovation in the cloud. A glance at the opportunity map tells a compelling story about all the white space available to partners to fill out the portfolio. Intellectual property and ideas are the building blocks in this case. The door is wide open for partners to bring use cases that enhance, extend, or add to an existing solution, or that fill gaps in the opportunity map. Using 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP) and 51风流Store, they can rapidly develop their ideas and turn them into commercialized solutions that customers can readily integrate.
  4. Industry convergence: Just like at the airport, we鈥檙e seeing the lines between industries blur and converge as traditional value chains merge. This creates massive opportunities for 51风流partners to develop new revenue streams around solutions that they adapt from one industry for use in another, or that can be used by customers across multiple industries. Electric vehicle charging is sparking a convergence among automotive, energy, oil and gas, utility, and retail and consumer products, for example. And that, in turn, is providing fertile territory for 51风流partners with use cases and intellectual property in these areas to collaborate and create new solutions that can add value for customers.
  5. Customer experience: By focusing on industry innovation, our goal is to give customers exactly what they need to succeed from a digital solutions standpoint. The better SAP, our partners, and all of us collectively as an ecosystem are at delivering the solutions customers need, the more trust we create with them. And that opens even more possibilities for SAP, partners, and customers alike 鈥 possibilities that conjure the familiar feeling I get at the airport when I鈥檓 waiting to board my next flight.

Recent Partner-Driven Project Wins Highlight Huge Industry Cloud Opportunities /2023/10/partner-gsps-wins-highlight-sap-industry-cloud-opportunities/ Mon, 30 Oct 2023 12:15:00 +0000 /?p=213124 If you haven鈥檛 been keeping close tabs on SAP鈥檚 burgeoning strategy and all the innovative business solutions it has yielded lately, prepare to be amazed.

Now two-and-half years old, SAP’s industry cloud, fueled by unprecedented cooperation between system integrators, app developers, and SAP, is fast gaining momentum, having produced a steadily growing number of ready-to-implement industry cloud solutions built on 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP) for use by customers within and across more than two dozen industry verticals.

A solution that emerged recently from one of those verticals, the utility sector, illustrates the seemingly limitless possibilities 鈥 and the win-win-win outcomes 鈥 that this collaborative ecosystem can create for its participants. EY, one of our system-integrator partners 鈥 we call them global strategic partners, or GSPs, at 51风流鈥 was working with a large New England energy company to replace the company鈥檚 legacy billing system with an 51风流solution.

Accelerate innovation to meet industry-specific needs

What happened next speaks directly to the potentially massive and sometimes unexpected opportunities that can spring from industry cloud collaborations between 51风流and GSPs. Soon after the new billing systems went live in April 2022, the energy company deemed the implementation with EY such a success that it decided to extend the 51风流solution to one of its statewide markets using the RISE with 51风流offering, inking a multi-year agreement that can enable the company鈥檚 subsidiaries to ultimately move to 51风流S/4HANA as part of an enterprise-wide journey to the cloud. The ability to show the customer the听, a pre-built and industry cloud accelerator with out-of-the-box dashboarding powered by 51风流Analytics Cloud, helped cement the deal.

Not only does the deal testify to EY鈥檚 superior work serving that customer, it shows how, through collaboration and innovation, a relatively small project for a GSP can blossom into something much broader and more lucrative. This particular outcome wouldn鈥檛 have been possible without EY and 51风流working closely together throughout the multi-phase, two-and-a-half-year process.

Stories like this abound within SAP鈥檚 industry cloud. Driven by the spirit of co-innovation, SAP鈥檚 industry cloud has yielded hundreds of solutions that are ready for application in verticals that include discrete manufacturing, consumer industries, energy and natural resources, and financial and professional services.

SAP鈥檚 industry cloud embodies an important shift in mindset at SAP, where instead of focusing solely on creating monolithic, highly proprietary, all-encompassing solutions for customers, we鈥檙e cultivating a community in which to collaboratively develop more modular cloud solutions with our GSPs that then can bring those solutions to their customers 脿 la carte to fill the gaps or white space in their business application landscape, or combine them into fully integrated end-to-end packages tailored specifically to the needs of their customers.

Credit for successes like the utility example often goes to our GSPs 鈥 the likes of Accenture, Capgemini, EY, IBM, Deloitte, InfoSys, Wipro, PwC, TCS, NTT, HCL, TechMahindra, DxC, LTI, Tenthpin, and more than a dozen others. The comprehensive offerings they have developed under the auspices of SAP鈥檚 industry cloud range from industry cloud innovations, reference architectures, and business process models, to industry templates and implementation accelerators, to data models and preconfigured interfaces.

While many of these GSPs compete head-to-head in certain markets, here in the world of SAP鈥檚 industry cloud they are collaborators and co-innovators aligned around a common goal: providing customers with access to open business-transformation and business intelligence solutions that can enable them to run more efficiently and focus more on higher-value strategic priorities.

Explore industry cloud solutions from 51风流and partners on 51风流Store

To this point, we鈥檝e seen our GSPs invest a total of more than US$300 million to develop industry cloud solutions, with more to come. Now they鈥檙e monetizing their investments by selling the services and solutions they developed directly to customers and by breaking down those broader solutions into discrete industry innovations that they offer on . Through their involvement in industry cloud, GSPs can develop and productize exactly what their customers want: pre-built, preconfigured, ready-to-integrate solutions that help accelerate the time to value for their transformation to the cloud and, in the process, shift capital expense to an operating expense, an important consideration in this era of high inflation.

SAP鈥檚 industry cloud can provide to help forge new client and partner relationships, cultivate business in new markets, and generally expand their portfolio and revenue streams. Those areas of opportunities include providing:

  • Industry subject matter expertise and advisory resources for business processes
  • Ready-to-deploy industry cloud partner software solutions
  • Stand-alone, customer-specific solutions for following industry cloud architecture principles
  • Pre-built or pre-configured integration services to help extend and connect third-party applications with 51风流solutions
  • Pre-integrated or pre-built industry data models and content

Each day brings news of another industry innovation, a new alliance or partnership, or a new project or customer for one of our GSPs. For example, through its work with a large energy company in the Middle East as part of SAP鈥檚 industry cloud, Wipro is developing a shutdown, turnaround, and outages solution on 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP) that it plans to productize and offer globally, with 51风流as one of its go-to-market channels. The revenue potential for this new solution appears to be substantial.

And we鈥檙e seeing equally promising deals, collaborations, and solutions emerge from other verticals. In the life sciences arena, for example, Tenthpin, which has strong ties to some of the world鈥檚 largest pharmaceutical manufacturers, has been the catalyst for development of a variety of industry cloud solutions on 51风流BTP that can have broad application across that industry. Needless to say, Tenthpin鈥檚 decision to actively participate in SAP鈥檚 industry cloud is paying major dividends for the company and its customers.

SAP鈥檚 industry cloud is that rare business ecosystem where stakeholder interests can not only converge, but align 鈥 and where the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts in terms of the value it generates for stakeholders. As of October 2022, that ecosystem has produced more than 300 open platform solutions and innovations, all designed with one goal in mind: to help customers become more intelligent, profitable, and sustainable enterprises.

How Industry Cloud Builds on the Past to Invent a Future Where Industries Converge and Boundaries Disappear鈥 /2023/10/industry-cloud-future-industries-converge-boundaries-disappear/ Tue, 24 Oct 2023 11:15:00 +0000 /?p=212897 Reading a in Computer Weekly, 鈥淗ow industry cloud platforms are shaping the future of business applications,鈥 not only brought me back to when 51风流first coined the term ‘industry cloud’ in 2020, it also affirmed that we didn鈥檛 just invent the term, we defined an entire movement.听

Little did we know in 2020 how ubiquitous the term industry cloud would become across the business landscape, nor how prescient it would be in describing the collaborative, partnership-driven pathway to innovation that SAP, our customers, partners, and the entire business technology marketplace are taking.听听

Industry cloud has come a long way in just a few years, both as a concept and as a living, breathing business ecosystem here at SAP. In a ,鈥疓artner found that about 40% of enterprises had started adopting industry cloud platforms, with another 15% in pilots and 15% considering deployment by 2026.

Meanwhile, itself has produced more than 300 solutions, some coming from SAP, some co-innovated by 51风流and a partner, and others developed by partners based on available APIs, with minimal or no involvement by SAP.

Optimize, extend, and transform your core business processes with SAP’s industry cloud

Before SAP鈥檚 industry cloud, there were 51风流Industry Solutions. The common thread between the two is a focus on industry innovation 鈥 developing a portfolio of industry-specific solutions that help fuel business transformation for our customers. Only now, instead of taking it upon ourselves to build on-premise solutions for customers in the 25 verticals 51风流serves as we would have before industry cloud came along, we鈥檙e working with partners by leveraging 51风流Business Technology Platform () to create a broad, diverse portfolio of extensible cloud-based solutions that can readily integrate with and augment the capabilities of the 51风流suite. The solutions we鈥檙e seeing emerge from industry cloud combine SAP鈥檚 deep industry know-how with unique intellectual property, domain knowledge, and technology sourced from across the ecosystem. The result is a new application layer of next-practice solutions that can be easy for customers to consume and can add value to their business by filling a well-defined need in their digital transformation journey.

As an open, SAP-curated ecosystem, industry cloud represents a bold new way of doing business. Because customer and partner expectations are shifting, we recognized we needed to change along with them. In particular, we realized we needed to evolve to support emerging trends like industry convergence, where customers in specific industries are exploring different industries and new roles in the value chain and building new revenue streams around as-a-service business models. An industrial manufacturer pivoting to direct-to-consumer sales? A fertilizer producer developing soil or weather analytics services for farmers? A traditional oil and gas company moving into hydrogen or renewable energy? Industry cloud can give customers solutions to help make these types of transformations rapidly and successfully.听

Even amid this mindset shift, some things haven鈥檛 changed, including SAP鈥檚 focus on innovating within industries and our commitment to giving customers the digital solutions they need to compete successfully in their industries. Now, however, we鈥檙e relying on partners and co-innovation to help us fill out the 51风流portfolio and road map.

SAP鈥檚 Industry Cloud Drives Innovation in Utilities Through Cloud-Based Apps and Partner Collaborations

The collaborative mindset that drives industry cloud has fast become part of the cultural and business fabric of SAP. And it鈥檚 unlocking compelling 鈥 and, in some cases, unexpected 鈥 new possibilities for customers and partners alike. McKinsey noted in a that 鈥渃rises are adrenaline for innovation.鈥濃疶hat鈥檚 certainly been the case lately, as I鈥檝e watched the pace of innovation accelerate in industry cloud. Here, customers are using the ecosystem as a laboratory for testing ideas and use cases, with the ability to quickly scale up, market, and monetize those with the most promise. It鈥檚 creating opportunities and pivots that likely wouldn鈥檛 have been possible before, like taking a startup鈥檚 unique artificial intelligence (AI)-powered visual inspection technology and adapting it for use cases across multiple verticals, for example, or finding new ways to package warehouse-as-a-service or robotics-as-a-service to add value for customers.

I find developments like these especially exciting because they involve partnerships and collaborations that came together because of a partner-first mindset. This is the secret sauce for an ecosystem like industry cloud: it behaves organically and, with our partners as the catalyst, can produce outcomes and value for customers that we may never have envisioned.鈥

Watching SAP, partners, and customers put their hearts and minds into writing new storylines around AI, the metaverse, fintechs, robotics, distributed energy, and other fast-emerging technologies is the best part of the work we do within SAP鈥檚 industry cloud. App by app, use case by use case, partnership by partnership, we are collectively bringing a bold new vision for the future of business technology to life for partners and customers. And we鈥檝e only just begun to scratch the surface.听

SAP’s Industry Cloud Drives Innovation in Utilities Through Cloud-Based Apps and Partner Collaborations /2023/10/sap-industry-cloud-drives-innovation-in-utilities/ Wed, 18 Oct 2023 11:15:00 +0000 /?p=212589 Had someone asked me during the early days of SAP鈥檚 industry cloud which among the roughly two-dozen industries we serve would provide the most fertile territory for our partners to innovate with cloud-based apps, I鈥檒l admit the utilities sector may not have landed near the top of my list.

But with so many new partner-developed apps moving through the industry cloud pipeline and to 51风流Store lately, I鈥檝e learned not to underestimate how compelling the opportunities are for partners to commercialize new use cases to extend SAP鈥檚 portfolio of solutions for utility customers, nor how open those customers are to moving business processes to the cloud.

The volume of utility-focused apps produced via industry cloud, and the speed at which they鈥檙e being commercialized, underscores several noteworthy trends for 51风流partners:

  1. 罢丑别谤别鈥檚 vast white space within the utilities product road map for partners to turn their intellectual property and use cases into solutions that generate new revenue streams and customers.
  2. That white space continues to create huge opportunities for 51风流partners to enhance and extend 51风流solutions in the utilities sector by developing their own solutions using 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP).
  3. Partners are taking advantage of the plentiful resources SAP鈥檚 industry cloud offers to help support and expedite the commercialization process.

Let鈥檚 first talk about white space. Our product road map for utilities has plenty of it, along with a flexible framework to accommodate partner innovations that lead in exciting and sometimes unexpected new directions. That鈥檚 all by design. We鈥檝e realized that to give customers exactly what they need to thrive, it鈥檚 often better to let our partners use their expertise to augment the 51风流portfolio with solutions they develop themselves, with assistance from us where and when it鈥檚 needed.

How can SAP鈥檚 industry cloud help your business innovate, scale, and grow?

That could include extensions and enhancements to 51风流Utilities Core, a solution that is . A glance at SAP鈥檚 industry cloud solutions for utilities shows development opportunities for partners in areas like enterprise asset management, digital supply chain, e-mobility, and a host of other areas. With industry cloud, we鈥檝e embraced the spirit of co-innovation, as evidenced by the close to 50 apps and solutions that are now part of the industry cloud for utilities portfolio, many of which were authored by 51风流partners. A from 51风流partner AppOrchid that enables people to query their data and get instant contextual answers is one of many examples from the partner-powered wave of innovation on the utilities side of industry cloud.

We鈥檙e actively encouraging partners to get involved in the co-innovation effort because with the new partner-friendly revenue models we鈥檝e incorporated into industry cloud, there鈥檚 a strong business case for them to do so.

Further strengthening that business case are all the resources 51风流is dedicating to support partners in the effort to identify and monetize their use cases for the utilities market. We鈥檙e making it easy for them to access resources and guidance at any point in their industry cloud journey, from onboarding through commercialization, closing deals and completing customer implementations.

To help speed the commercialization process for partners, we鈥檝e developed programs like , where we invite partners to submit use cases, then support chosen use cases with resources and guidance so they can quickly bring them to 51风流Store. We鈥檙e currently in the midst of our third utilities-focused round of SPRINT1, the previous two having yielded a variety of new apps from companies like AppOrchid, Utegration, EnergyOS, Infosys, and others.

After interviews, our panel chooses use cases based on their commercial merit. Those chosen partners then participate in a week-long bootcamp run by 51风流Co-Innovation Lab, where partners can receive technical advice and individual support. Next comes the 鈥渟print鈥 to the finish line, with regular check-ins, progress reviews, and additional support from SAP. The final step is onboarding to 51风流Store, again with expert guidance from SAP.

Not only do we plan to offer additional rounds of SPRINT1 for utility solutions, we鈥檝e also developed an , where individuals in the field and 51风流customers can learn more about specific partner-developed solutions and industry cloud opportunities within the utilities segment 鈥 in under 30 minutes.

As evidenced by resources like these, we鈥檙e highly focused on giving partners what they need to make their engagement with industry cloud worthwhile. To learn more about utilities-specific development opportunities and how to access the aforementioned partner resources, please contact me or .

How Channel Partners Can Write a Profitable New Chapter in the Industry Cloud Story /2023/10/channel-partners-profitable-industry-cloud/ Tue, 10 Oct 2023 12:15:00 +0000 /?p=212344 I鈥檝e spent a lot of time on the road lately, talking with 51风流channel partners about their business and what it takes to thrive in an increasingly cloud-centric world.

One of the points they often raise during our conversations, regardless of the industry or geographic market they serve, is how focused they are on uncovering opportunities to diversify their business with new revenue streams and customers in new markets.

That鈥檚 when I suggest they check out the book.

Accelerate innovation to meet your industry-specific needs

“” I refer them to isn鈥檛 on any bestseller lists. But for channel partners interested in growing their business, it鈥檚 essential reading because it highlights 40 industry cloud solutions from SAP that land right in the channel partner sweet spot. They鈥檙e ideal for midmarket customers because they are geared toward businesses with limited IT resources and budgets, and they readily integrate with the 51风流solution portfolio. What鈥檚 more, they provide a huge opportunity for channel partners to fill white space in the midmarket, where 51风流itself is less active, and, in doing so, can increase the value they provide to existing customers while also generating sales opportunities with new customers in different markets and industry verticals.

In fact, 51风流is counting on channel partners to help fill that white space across our 25 industry verticals by bringing industry cloud solutions to their customers. That includes solutions developed by other partners as well as those they develop themselves. With SAP鈥檚 industry cloud, we鈥檙e giving channel partners an open invitation to turn their own intellectual property (IP) into a solution they can monetize by developing it on 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP).

During my conversations with channel partners, one of the first questions they ask is, 鈥淲ill we be stepping on SAP鈥檚 toes if we use 51风流BTP to develop applications specifically for midmarket clients?鈥

My response: quite the opposite! Our priority at 51风流is to get the right solutions in the hands of customers that aren鈥檛 ideally suited to standard 51风流offerings. Nobody understands how to do that better than our channel partners. Who authored the solution is secondary to the main goal of SAP鈥檚 industry cloud: giving customers what they need to succeed. One channel partner, for example, even though the 51风流Digital Manufacturing solution already exists. While both solutions cater to the same functional needs, they target entirely different customer segments. That鈥檚 exactly the kind of innovation we鈥檙e seeking from channel partners.

Another question I hear frequently: 鈥淲e like the idea of monetizing our IP. But what IP do we develop, and how do we commercialize it?鈥

As a channel partner, there鈥檚 a good chance that in crafting solutions for your customers, you鈥檝e developed your own IP that could bring value to other customers, perhaps in new verticals and geographic markets. As part of the collaboration-driven industry cloud mindset, 51风流is redoubling efforts to provide partners with resources to help them identify and commercialize their IP.

Explore industry cloud solutions from 51风流and partners

Another question they often ask me: 鈥淲hat about working with a partner that also happens to be a competitor of ours? How can we trust that collaborating with them won鈥檛 backfire on us?鈥

A valid concern, but one that the shared-risk/shared-reward structure of SAP’s industry cloud should put to rest. This ecosystem is built on co-innovation and , where partners set aside competitive rivalries and recognize they can create more value for customers and themselves by working together. As for concerns that posting a solution on 51风流Store would put their IP and code at risk, that鈥檚 not an issue either. For one thing, neither their IP nor their code is exposed on 51风流Store. What鈥檚 more, 51风流depends on partners to develop industry cloud solutions. We鈥檙e not interested in building everything in-house or taking ideas from partners, and we鈥檝e put in place contractual language to protect partner IP. The same applies to other partners in the ecosystem. All our interests are aligned around helping the end customer. The result is a win-win-win for them, SAP, and our partners.

As new as this approach is, it鈥檚 understandable that channel partners would have questions about how they can benefit from industry cloud. To help put things in perspective for them, I鈥檒l often respond to their questions with one of my own: 鈥淚f you had the chance to turn all the time, effort, and intellectual property you鈥檝e invested in your work with midmarket customers into solutions that generate new revenue streams and market opportunities, without assuming undue business risk, would you take it?鈥

That鈥檚 when the light bulb really turns on and they realize that with SAP鈥檚 industry cloud they can start writing success stories of their own.

To learn more about the resources 51风流offers to help channel partners leverage industry cloud, explore the site, along with and . If you are an 51风流partner that has developed a solution you believe should be included in 鈥渢he book,鈥 please contact me.

Unlocking Industries鈥 Full Potential with 51风流Business AI /2023/09/unlocking-industries-full-potential-sap-business-ai/ Mon, 04 Sep 2023 12:15:21 +0000 /?p=211134 Throughout time, businesses of all sizes have relied on processes to create their goods or offer their services in a way that delivered value to customers. For example, a lemonade stand needs fresh lemons and sugar to make the best lemonade, and going to the right fruit stand and buying the freshest lemons was part of that 鈥渂usiness process.鈥 In large companies, business processes are much more complex and have many steps inside and outside the company, which means that there is a need for business application software to manage their processes efficiently, network-aware, and end-to-end.

What Is Customer Loyalty? /2023/08/what-is-customer-loyalty/ Tue, 08 Aug 2023 11:15:44 +0000 /?p=206297 What makes you stick with a brand 鈥 is it the quality of the product or service? Is it the support you receive when something goes wrong? Is it the availability in the market or the compatibility with other products? Is it the rewards you are offered for being a loyal customer?

When I鈥檓 in the market for new sport shoes, I stick to the brand that I know is the most comfortable for me. 罢丑别谤别鈥檚 nothing worse than buying a pair of sneakers and going jogging with them for the first time, only to realize in the first few minutes of your run that they don鈥檛 fit properly.

On the other hand, if I鈥檓 shopping for groceries, it鈥檚 how healthy the product is, then the selection, freshness, and price that matter the most. Time is also a factor 鈥 the quicker I can find exactly what I need, the better.

But what happens if another sport shoe manufacturer sets up a loyalty program, allowing me to collect points and offering discounts? Or, what if a new grocery store opens that allows me to save even more time by eliminating the checkout counter? Would that make me change my buying behavior?

What I鈥檓 talking about is loyalty in the context of customer experience. It鈥檚 different for every industry. How can you as a supplier or service provider ensure that you are offering the best experience possible to your customers?

Loyalty Is a Very Noisy Space

Recently, I spoke to Riad Hijal, head of Commerce Solution Management at 51风流Customer Experience. 鈥淟oyalty is a very noisy space. I think for retailers, for example, to be successful and ultimately drive customer lifetime value through loyalty, they need to cut through that noise,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e as consumers are faced with dozens of rewards or loyalty accounts 鈥 most of them aren鈥檛 really driving any kind of real modification in behavior. We don鈥檛 buy more just because we have a loyalty account with someone and are collecting points; we are merely using it as a discount mechanism. That鈥檚 how to do loyalty wrong.鈥

Loyalty requires a reimagination of the loyalty experience and underlying process. To stand out from the crowd, companies need to be leveraging measurement. In addition, what are the themes that we need to focus on to rethink loyalty to truly drive long-term customer value? What does the measurement look like? According to Hijal, historically, efficient and tangible measurement has been lacking in loyalty programs due to the complexity of the topic.

What Should Loyalty Solutions Really Be Offering?

By leveraging data and analytics, a loyalty platform helps businesses understand why customers regard certain experiences as more memorable and important than others. This allows businesses to dig deeper into the different elements of behavior-driven customer loyalty.

And, the truth is, data is siloed within a multitude of systems within your organization. As a company, you need to be able to reconcile all of it, across both transactional and behavioral dimensions so that you can understand which customers are truly profitable and worth your focus. With 51风流Customer Data Platform, for example, which is part of RISE with SAP, you can prioritize your customers with intelligent insights delivered by the platform. See more about 51风流Customer Data Platform in .

As such, there are key capabilities necessary for modern experiential loyalty platforms. These are rewards and incentive management, personalization, gamification, communication and engagement, feedback and surveys, data-driven insights, and integration and convenience.

PUMA and Mention Me: An Industry Cloud Solution

As a leading sports brand, PUMA wanted to transform its fan base to a key growth-driver by not only attracting new customers, but also improving brand awareness and loyalty.听Mention Me, an industry cloud partner solution, in combination with 51风流Emarsys Customer Engagement, helped PUMA launch referral programs in six European countries.

PUMA has integrated Mention Me with 51风流Emarsys Customer Engagement, its customer relationship management (CRM) platform. This helps equip PUMA to serve seamless customer journeys that drive more referrals, such as sending reward reminders and encouraging referrers to introduce more friends. PUMA is also able to feed first-party referral data into the CRM platform in real time 鈥 growing its database and giving a whole new level of insight. The combination of these solutions is giving the company remarkable growth, increasing its ROI through referral to six times its investment just nine months after launching the campaigns. .

Valora: Revolutionizing Convenience Store Shopping

Valora wanted to better meet customer needs by combining the convenience of a physical store with the simplicity of a digital business model. This was the beginning of its newest brand of cashier-free convenience store 鈥 avec box. To help realize the project, Valora chose 51风流Customer Experience solutions, used the rich knowledge available with 51风流Services and Support, and worked with Webtiser AG and Pagnos GmbH on a proof of concept. The goal was to start with a single store, using a minimal viable product collaboration approach, then scale the solution further.

Now, Valora is winning new customers by offering them an even more convenient and flexible shopping experience 鈥 without the hassle of waiting in line at the cash register. Plus, with customers registering with the avec app, Valora is able to get new insight into what customers want. Not only does make it possible to give personalized recommendations, but it is also now easier than ever for Valora to reward customer loyalty and keep people coming back for more. .

Measurement Is Key

Effectively measuring and then learning from customer behavior with loyalty solutions to improve reward experiences is the key to taking customer loyalty to the next level. 鈥淪ince loyalty is such a mature space, measurement is key,鈥 said Hijal. 鈥淢ost loyalty programs are abundant and don’t achieve much, but focusing on measurement is what the next generation of loyalty programs is all about.鈥

Speaking of next generation, 51风流Customer Experience solutions are also artificial intelligence (AI)- and machine learning-fueled. These types of insights can help you make each customer feel like they are your only customer. They can help you engage and understand consumers on their terms while respecting their privacy preferences during the customer journey, to retain and upsell using machine learning and smart automation.

So, the next time I鈥檓 in the market for sports shoes, maybe the AI-fueled loyalty program will be able to convince me to try something new鈥nd stick with it.

Leveraging SAP鈥檚 Industry Cloud, Going from Concept to Commercialization Can Be Fast and Fulfilling /2023/07/cogniac-sap-syntax-industry-cloud/ Tue, 04 Jul 2023 12:15:45 +0000 /?p=205693 As recently as late 2020, Cogniac was a little-known Silicon Valley startup with promising artificial intelligence (AI)-driven computer vision (CV) technology and a big-time opportunity to find new markets for that technology via the program.

Fast forward two-and-half years to the spring of 2023, and not only has Cogniac found a strong market for its technology, it has earned a place among the vanguard of enterprise-class CV software, having been as a leader in the field alongside the likes of AWS, Google, and Microsoft.

How does a company ascend so far, so fast? In the case of San Jose, California-based Cogniac, it couldn鈥檛 have happened without superior technology, a partnership-driven mindset, and an openness to work with 51风流to develop an industry cloud solution that readily integrates with the 51风流portfolio to bring more value to customers.

Cogniac鈥檚 Visual Operations Intelligence platform is one of more than 300 apps and integrated end-to-end solutions developed within SAP鈥檚 industry cloud and is available to customers across multiple industry verticals in . Cogniac鈥檚 technology also has been integrated into the solution, providing AI-enabled visual inspection capabilities for the shop floor to customers in a range of industries.

Cogniac is among a wave of up-and-coming companies that are blazing a trail for other independent developers to follow, showing how to leverage the expertise and resources of 51风流and system integrator partners to quickly scale up and monetize their intellectual property and technology. It鈥檚 all part of SAP鈥檚 鈥渙ne-portfolio鈥 approach, which is rooted in the belief that by working together, companies that are actively engaged in SAP鈥檚 industry cloud 鈥 including independent developers, global and regional services partners, and others 鈥 can create solutions that generate more value for customers and themselves than they otherwise would working individually. The one-portfolio approach is first and foremost about solving customers鈥 business problems, whether the solution comes from an 51风流partner, 51风流itself, or a combination of the two.

In Cogniac鈥檚 case, the solution was born from the SAP.iO program and, following a , it鈥檚 now fully commercialized for customers in travel and transportation, automotive manufacturing, mill and mining, industrial manufacturing, and other verticals seeking to upgrade and automate their visual inspection capabilities for quality management and maintenance.

Here鈥檚 where the implementation expertise of another industry cloud partner, Montreal-based Syntax, enters the picture. As a system integrator, Syntax is playing a critical role in scaling and implementing Cogniac鈥檚 technology for customer use cases. It鈥檚 yet another example of how combining an independent developer鈥檚 domain expertise 鈥 for Cogniac, its computer vision driven by AI 鈥 with a system integrator鈥檚 expertise 鈥 Syntax is deeply experienced in customer implementations where IT and OT converge 鈥 and SAP鈥檚 end-to-end business process expertise, resources, reach, and positioning can result in a solution that fills an obvious customer need. Not only can creative industry cloud partnerships like these result in new revenue streams and market opportunities for developers and system integrators but they can bring solutions to market much faster than before.

Speaking of speed, the Cogniac-developed visual inspection capabilities within 51风流Digital Manufacturing can be implemented by Syntax at enterprise scale quickly, in a day or two, because they readily integrate with existing camera infrastructure and workflows. The low-code/no-code AI technology behind those capabilities represents a huge step forward in shop floor automation for a wide range of use cases, enabling high-speed inspection with greater accuracy at a lower cost. In this case, AI could also stand for augmented intelligence, for its ability to help customers make better decisions faster, as well as for automated intelligence, for its ability to free human beings from monotonous, repetitive inspection tasks.

Smart Press Shop Project: Extension of 51风流DM solution with Visual Inspection | Syntax

The industry cloud relationship between Cogniac, Syntax, and 51风流is a great illustration of the innovation mindset driving the one-portfolio approach, where instead of taking it upon ourselves to develop proprietary solutions in areas where we aren鈥檛 necessarily strongest, like computer vision, we combine forces with partners to come up with collaborative solutions that deliver more value to the folks who matter most: our customers. To support that approach, 51风流has updated its compensation models to make it easier and more attractive for partners to monetize their intellectual property and expertise on industry cloud.

When all this comes together, as it has with Cogniac and Syntax, the result is a win-win-win for customers, partners, and SAP.

Celebrating People鈥檚 Differences with Inclusive Fashion /2023/06/celebrating-differences-inclusive-fashion/ Wed, 28 Jun 2023 11:15:24 +0000 /?p=205607 Innovation with a purpose is at the heart of the relationship between 51风流and , a non-profit foundation that鈥檚 focused on inclusion, acceptance, and opportunities in the fashion industry for people with disabilities. As a fashion designer and mom of an 18-year-old son with muscular dystrophy, founder and CEO Mindy Scheier was inspired by her son鈥檚 dressing regimen, which served as a daily reminder of what he could not do easily, including fastening buttons and zippers, putting on shoes, or tying laces.

Speaking at this year鈥檚 during a keynote with Sven Denecken, senior vice president and chief marketing and solutions officer for 51风流Industries and Customer Experience, Scheier modestly described her revolutionary strategy.

鈥淚 decided to have a small goal of changing the fashion industry to be inclusive of the 1.8 billion people on earth who are living with a disability,鈥 said Scheier. 鈥淗aving a partner like 51风流helps us navigate the world and understand that people with disabilities are living in a world that actually wasn鈥檛 made for them. Our equation is that fashion plus technology equals adaptive, and 51风流is the platform to help us expand and understand the power of inclusion, especially with the largest minority on our planet.鈥

Building an Ecosystem of Changemakers

Runway of Dreams develops programs and events that celebrate people鈥檚 differences with fashion shows that exemplify the power of collaboration across industry ecosystems. Unlike typical runway events with one fashion designer, numerous world-renowned brands come together to sponsor Runway of Dreams fashion shows that debut clothing designed for people with disabilities. Scheier is also founder and CEO of GAMUT Management, the first-of-its-kind consulting company to work exclusively with and for people with disabilities.

鈥51风流has come in to help our shared clients understand the huge business opportunity around people with disabilities,鈥 said Scheier. 鈥淭he button was invented in the 13th century, giving technology a huge opportunity to get involved in this space and be a changemaker. And GAMUT is a platform for that. Just because things have been done in a certain way for years, doesn鈥檛 mean that鈥檚 how they have to remain.鈥

Future-Ready Mindset for Industry Differentiation

The fashion industry is just one example of how 51风流helps customers stay one step ahead of market dynamics where industries are converging, embedded artificial intelligence (AI) is an indispensable tool, and partner ecosystems are vital for business growth.

鈥淭o be future-proof, companies need to have a future-ready mindset,鈥 said Denecken. 鈥淚ndustries are the vertical edge that provides differentiation for the business鈥nd 51风流offers that deep industry knowledge to help organizations鈥avigate every emerging trend, turn the unexpected into opportunities, and differentiate to grow at that vertical edge backed by our . We are reshaping every industry.鈥

Industry Convergence Transforms CX

Denecken used the central digital showcase at the event as an example of how convergence is rapidly reshaping industries, redefining boundaries between traditional value chains for sustainable, intelligent, and networked business. This improves the customer experience and helps build the circular economy.

鈥淐onvergence is happening in every sector. There are many scenarios such as energy where fuel stations are becoming retail stations, [straddling] the oil and gas, automotive, utilities, and retail industries,鈥 he said. 鈥淭o digitally transform鈥nabling people, partners, and the entire system to collaborate on product and service experiences, you need to think across industry boundaries to create added value that will differentiate your brand. 51风流has the digital industry solutions and business process understanding to help you deliver value that drives profitable growth.鈥

Generative AI with a Business Purpose

Industry convergence is also behind 51风流industry networks, where organizations from industrial manufacturing, life sciences, consumer products, and high technology go beyond traditional partnerships to collaborate across boundaries, sharing data and tools for faster innovation, including embedded generative AI that has a business purpose and delivers results.

鈥淭urning AI technology advancements into business impact is a challenge for many companies, especially if they lack in-house expertise,鈥 said Denecken. 鈥淲e have built business AI capabilities directly into the 51风流portfolio, combining that with our industry knowledge to power critical functions that include transportation management with generative AI, predictive replenishment, intelligent product recommendations, and 51风流Digital Assistant, which can provide a unified natural language interface for all 51风流solutions.鈥

Industry-Specific Data Fulfills Customer Promise

Denecken explained how SAP鈥檚 mission is to help industries become more customer-centric, linking data company wide. In a fascinating demonstration, Andre Bechtold, senior vice president and head of Solution and Innovation Experience at SAP, showed how the company鈥檚 on-site delve into real-world scenarios for industries, connecting data across business value chains between consumers and organizations to strengthen customer relationships and generate revenue from new cross-industry business models.

鈥淲e鈥檙e making the customer experience more industry tailored, starting with automotive, consumer products, retail, and utilities,鈥 said Denecken. 鈥淭his allows companies to meet individual customer needs at any touchpoint. Personalized experiences result in increased order sizes, return visits, customer loyalty, higher profit margins, and greater wallet share.鈥

Driven by cloud-based technologies, industries are blazing new business trails with boundary-crossing innovations like inclusive fashion for consumers.

Supporting All Farmers with Technology to Sustainably Feed the World /2023/06/supporting-farmers-with-technology-sap-intelligent-agriculture/ Fri, 02 Jun 2023 11:15:56 +0000 /?p=205141 How can farmers continue to feed a growing population sustainably with increasingly unpredictable weather and more demanding customer needs?

In the past, farmers were reliant on experience passed on from generation to generation, the Farmer鈥檚 Almanac, or other methods to plan and carry out their planting, harvesting, storage, and delivery processes. That said, the volume of agricultural food products was only a fraction of what is produced today and the goods were transported over shorter distances, making storage and transport less complicated.

If the farmers of over 100 years ago could see the world today, they would be astonished at the level of industrialization we have reached in agribusiness 鈥 and things are only moving faster. As an example, agriculture in 2050 will need to produce almost 50% more food, feed, and biofuel than it did in 2012 to meet demand.

Today鈥檚 biggest business challenges call for agility, resilience, and innovation. Responding to changing markets and better serving customers is on the top of everybody鈥檚 to-do list. Also, running companies sustainably has become a business imperative 鈥 that includes farming businesses.

If observation, experience, and intuition helped farmers to improve their margins in the past, today we have the possibility to collect and analyze data from across the entire value chain. With 51风流Intelligent Agriculture, an industry cloud solution from SAP, agribusiness companies can become more sustainable and efficient.

Digitalizing the Field at KWS SAAT

KWS is the fourth-largest seed and plant breeding company globally, delivering its seeds to farmers for planting. KWS offers high-quality seeds that farmers can trust to sustainably harvest reliable crop yields. To transform its business, the company has decided to digitalize its entire logistic value chain, from field to plant, plant to stock, and order to cash.

With 51风流Intelligent Agriculture, KWS will be able to simplify collaboration with seed growers by putting field data to work. One way that is by helping to better plan seed farming processes in collaboration with growers, ensuring sustainability and maximizing efficiency, to produce the best quality seeds to offer in the marketplace.

Improving Farming Processes at Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation

Another example of how . RES produces sugar and ethanol in the south of Africa and is now using 51风流Intelligent Agriculture to help improve farming processes. Both the farmers and those working in the offices at RES can plan, execute, and monitor production. Giving smaller farmers access to data supports them in better predicting crop yields and enables RES to determine the most favorable time to harvest.

Helping Farmers Is a Win for Everyone

Helping farmers, especially family and medium-scale ones, be successful is an incredible win for all involved. By allowing these farmers to be digitally connected to a larger enterprise, it keeps them competitive while ensuring a predictable income since the farmers can better plan their crops. Come harvesting time, this allows farmers in remote areas to create more jobs, which in turns supports the entire community.

Farming is becoming data driven. There is a significant increase of relevant data available from fields and farms that can be leveraged to drive better decisions. Learn more about , an industry cloud solution from 51风流and 2022 Hasso Plattner Founders鈥 Award winner.

Retail Order Management: Everything, Everywhere, All at Once /2023/05/retail-order-management-everything-everywhere-all-at-once/ Thu, 04 May 2023 12:15:08 +0000 /?p=204517 Have you seen the Oscar-winning film Everything Everywhere All At Once? If you don鈥檛 know it but enjoy stories of multiverses and alternate timelines, then it is probably worth your time. What you may not know is that the film is a metaphor for the challenges of retail and omnichannel order management.

Much like Evelyn, the protagonist in the movie, retail is undergoing an existential crisis. As new ways of doing business have appeared 鈥 especially e-commerce 鈥 the future of brick-and-mortar often feels uncertain. Should retailers abandon the main street for the metaverse?

With new ways of selling and new ways delivering on those sales, retailers can struggle to adjust. Order management software exists to help bridge these different worlds.

In an omnichannel context, order management is critical, but it is hard to do well. It comes down to where your customers are, where your products are coming from, and how to bring them together profitably while providing a good experience.

Customers place their orders using everything. Orders come via computers, mobile devices, social media, customer service agents, game consoles, and even the store. No matter the sales channel, customers want to see what you have to sell, regardless of platform or location. They expect a consistent brand experience and do not want to feel like your business silos are alternate universes that they need to jump between.

Products can be anywhere and everywhere. Products may be in a warehouse across the country, the store closest to the customer, or at a vendor in another country. A retailer wants to make this product available to their customers no matter where it sits. That requires having visibility into product availability at any location, across all channels.

Bringing the customers and products together requires seamlessly connecting all the sales channels, fulfillment channels, and delivery methods all at once. Too often the flow from sales channel to fulfillment channel is run by disjointed processes and systems trying to connect one channel to another with hard-coded, inflexible business rules. This can lead to inconsistent experiences for customers and makes it difficult to add new channels or processes as business needs change. Nothing in recent memory showcased the need for flexibility quite like the COVID-19 shutdowns and the need for new fulfillment methods, like curbside pickup.

The answer to this complex retail landscape is omnichannel order management.

Evelyn crossing realities can be seen as a metaphor for orders crossing sales channels and fulfillment channels. But, the key to successfully managing retail orders from different sales channels is bringing them together just as the characters鈥 different selves combined.

does this by allowing you to submit orders from any sales channel. This retail customer experience product, in conjunction with partner services like , can take the order and split it across multiple fulfillment channels like enterprise resource planning (ERP), warehouse management, in-store, and drop shippers. The fulfillment systems in return can send updates back to the foundation so that you can track order information in one place. You can have everything from everywhere all at one endpoint.

Adding new channels, whether sales or execution, can be time-consuming when quick time to value makes all the difference. In the movie, Evelyn harnesses the different powers of multiple parallel-universe Evelyns by absorbing their skills, the same way the sourcing and availability component and the foundation can enhance the benefits of additional fulfillment channels without starting from scratch.

In the movie, we also see that as Evelyn experiences all these amazing realities, she keeps going back to her starting point. Sometimes that鈥檚 true for products, too. Returns are an increasing part of the retail business, especially with online ordering. To help simplify the returns process, know what to do when goods are returned, and work out how to avoid having the same problems in the future, businesses can use .

You might notice that the order management process relies on more than one product. This is always true. The life cycle of an order touches many systems. Those include sales channels like 51风流Commerce, ERP systems like 51风流S/4HANA, as well as payment providers, tax engines, loyalty systems, and beyond. Order management is what makes all those systems play nicely together. 51风流Order Management is made up of a composable set of applications:

The Direct-to-Consumer Imperative for Today鈥檚 Consumer Product and Retail Brands /2023/05/the-d2c-imperative-consumer-product-retail-brands/ Thu, 04 May 2023 10:15:48 +0000 /?p=204590 In a , 72% of 500 commerce executives surveyed said they were prioritizing 鈥渋ncreasing margins and profitability鈥 as a strategic goal. Beyond that, 36% said this was their absolute top priority.

This is understandable, given the volatile and unpredictable nature of today鈥檚 marketplace. Multiple external pressures — global inflation, stringent trade regulations, supply chain disruptions, and the reality of well informed and tech-savvy consumers with virtually endless options — are making it increasingly difficult to protect profit margins.

Against this backdrop, direct-to-consumer (D2C) selling through digital channels has become the strategic linchpin for protecting profitability across multiple industries. Well executed digital sales channels allow companies to establish direct, lasting relationships with consumers while still maintaining their core modern trade business models and existing partner and channel landscapes. Many small business-to-business (B2B) organizations, in fact, started as native D2C brands, and now larger brands are following suit and adding D2C channels to meet growing consumer expectations.

Adding further complexity is the fact that changing consumer expectations are redefining all aspects of the retail journey. From choosing the right sales channels to sustainable sourcing to easy returns and responsible re-merchandising, retailers are looking for flexible solutions to delight customers and increase profitability without finding themselves in 鈥渙ne-size-only” business models.

The Devil Is in the D2C Details; Fantastic Data Is the Key

As early digital-native adopters such as Allbirds, Dollar Shave Club, and Zappos learned, D2C success does not end at setting up a webshop and mastering direct marketing. It requires a much more expansive strategy and truly knowing your customers so you can meet their evolving needs with new levels of convenience, no matter how they choose to interact with your brand. It is also vital to understand consumers鈥 behaviors and propensity to abandon brands for reasons that may seem trivial on the surface, and that only begin to make sense in the aggregate.

These same vanguard niche brands also learned that the key to achieving a winning D2C strategy lay in building a technology stack capable of reliably and responsibly gathering data to gain actionable insights across the entire customer life cycle, and using that data to enhance every customer interaction, as well as to optimize business processes across the entire organization.

Despite the accelerating growth of D2C as a share of the overall commerce market, many consumer products companies have optimized their processes and IT landscapes for the modern trade model, where the primary route to market was through retail. This means they often lack the infrastructure and corporate culture needed to achieve a true end-to-end, data-driven strategy, as well as the elevated customer experience it can deliver.

We can define this kind of strategy along five essential elements:

  • Value proposition: Offering the right product, on the right channel, for the right price, at minimal introductory risk and cost
  • Marketing: Acquiring and engaging consumers to convert them to loyal, direct customers while respecting and protecting their personal data and privacy
  • Direct sales channel: Enabling new D2C business models and embedding e-commerce capabilities across the entire customer life cycle
  • Fulfillment and post-purchase: Delivering products at scale and on time while reducing costs per transaction, and mastering processes across the fulfillment value chain, including intelligent returns
  • Analysis and insights: Using consumer insights to quickly iterate products, services, and experiences through a unified consumer data framework with consistent and compliant data governance; in essence, enabling a data-driven 鈥渇eedback loop鈥 that increases in value and effectiveness over time

There is also the essential modern go-to-market approach that goes far beyond e-commerce and mailing lists. Beyond e-commerce and selling into traditional brick and mortar department store chains, mom-and-pop stores, specialty retailers, restaurants and bars, salons, and more, engaging multiple business-to-consumer (B2C) marketplaces, such as Amazon, Alibaba, and Etsy, may also be necessary. Social network marketplaces, with their attendant social influencers on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook, continue to grow as popular sales channels. For all these reasons, the right technology partner is essential to ensuring an organization is ready to compete and win in this ever-evolving marketplace.

This end-to-end data strategy and the valuable insights it offers can only come from a provider that can connect data from back-end, enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions to front-end end, customer experience and customer relationship management (CRM) solutions.

As the world鈥檚 foremost ERP solution provider, with 50 years of experience in industry-specific business process technology, 51风流is in a unique position to help customers connect all of these elements across their business landscapes. Intelligent Data Drives Growth Across Farm-to-Consume Food Value Chain /2023/04/intelligent-data-drives-growth-food-value-chain/ Mon, 24 Apr 2023 11:15:29 +0000 /?p=204229 While soil, water, and sun are the time-honored elements in growing fresh fruits and vegetables, produce companies worldwide are adding intelligent data to the recipe for the highest yields that ultimately satisfy hungry consumers. Mapping supply 鈥 meaning crops grown and harvested 鈥 to demand is no easy task. Whether they own the farming land or work with a network of independent growers, fresh produce companies are up against increasingly extreme weather, supply chain volatility, and an uncertain business environment.

鈥淔resh produce organizations and their partners are rapidly moving from experience-based to data-driven farming,鈥 said Anja Strothkaemper, global vice president of Agribusiness and Commodity Management at SAP. 鈥 for agribusiness are designed to help fresh produce companies use data from the fields, grower contracts, and finance to make better decisions for managing the food value chain end-to-end to achieve optimal yields and higher revenue.鈥

IN FOCUS with Sven Denecken on 51风流Industries as a Key Competitive Differentiator

Farming Innovations Start in the Field

Watching the plants just won鈥檛 cut it in a world beset by storms, droughts, and other unexpected challenges. Farmers are investing in technology to capture and act on data in the fields. For example, they can make cost-effective and yield-boosting irrigation improvements based on soil conditions and local weather forecasts. This also helps save water, which is becoming a scarce resource in many parts of the world.

In many cases, fresh produce companies working with independent growers provide farming advisory services to their growers based on historical and current field data, as well as crop and variety-specific data science models. Using , they can replace manual spreadsheets with cloud-based, centralized field data. They can also offer digital services on a mobile platform to farmers, providing 24/7 advice for each field. The idea is to automatically capture and analyze data that helps growers make better decisions throughout the farming cycle, from planting to harvest. For fresh produce companies that have contracts with many farmers, relevant data is a way to build trusted relationships and control the quality of their supply.

Sustainability to Weather Any Market Storm

As sustainability becomes a business imperative, agribusiness is responding with climate-friendly crop protection and care. Farmers want to minimize environmentally harmful pesticides and fertilizers, and conserve valuable natural resources like water. Data that supports intelligent irrigation planning can help reduce the use of water even in the face of droughts. Real-time soil analyses can help farmers use less fertilizer and pesticides, saving costs while reducing crop loss risk.

Connected data also supports innovation and agility, providing fresh produce researchers with updated information as they explore new varieties resistant to evolving weather conditions. They can track yields against regional demand, adjusting planting strategies as market tastes shift and producing higher-revenue varieties at the right time.

Deep Partnerships Extend Food Value Chain Innovation

The food value chain is wide and deep, making partner collaboration another essential ingredient for fresh product companies.

鈥淪AP鈥檚 strategy is to provide customers with a cloud-based platform that allows them to build intelligence by collaborating with partners for optimized end-to-end processes,鈥 said Strothkaemper. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 why we鈥檙e partnering to extend co-innovation using , offering tools and technology to partners so they can extend 51风流solutions and build complementary industry cloud applications.鈥

Numerous agritech startups are working with 51风流to explore untapped opportunities and develop solutions for sustainable agriculture. One example is , a participant in SAP.iO Foundry Paris, that developed a to automate quality control based on the size and color of fresh fruits and vegetables in real time. Clarifruit鈥檚 latest innovation, recently announced in beta version, expands the platform鈥檚 capabilities to automate the identification of defects.

鈥淎utomating quality control with real-time data provides inspectors along the food value chain with objective and consistent information, allowing sellers to get the price they expect and buyers the quality their customers demand,鈥 said Elad Mardix, CEO at Clarifruit. 鈥淲ith early visibility into the quality of fresh produce, growers, wholesalers, and retailers along the supply chain can reduce quality mismatch and rejections, helping decrease waste and increase profits.鈥

Data Intelligence Cuts Through Complex Food Value Chain

It鈥檚 impossible to talk about the farm-to-consume value chain without mentioning . Storing and transporting perishable foods like fruits and vegetables requires integrated data across warehouses and vast transportation networks. Looking to the future, Strothkaemper envisioned fully connected data from fields through planning, planting, and harvest to supply chain transport and delivery.

鈥淚magine if fresh produce companies could digitally link what鈥檚 happening in the farming fields with to better meet retailer demands,鈥 said Strothkaemper. 鈥淵ou may have enough apples to meet orders in the system, but do you have the transportation capacity to pick them up and can the store and pack them? Our vision is to help fresh produce companies connect the farm-to-consume data silos between growers, fresh produce companies, and transportation service providers. With connected, intelligent data, companies gain more control in an unpredictable environment.鈥

51风流Partners Drive a Wave of Industry Cloud Innovation in Discrete Manufacturing /2023/04/sap-partners-industry-cloud-innovation-discrete-manufacturing/ Tue, 11 Apr 2023 11:15:22 +0000 /?p=204019 When SAP鈥榮 industry cloud journey began back in 2020, our vision was simple. We wanted to deliver more value to our customers and to our partners. And that meant reimagining our solution strategy to focus more on open-platform co-innovation with partners and less monolithic, more modular solutions for customers.

Now, close to three years later, this fundamental shift in approach, underpinned by new, attractive commercial models, is yielding better business outcomes and a solid value proposition for customers and partners alike. According to a from Forrester, an organization that implements industry cloud solutions projects to realize a US$2.6 million net present value and an ROI of 283% over three years. The benefits come mostly in the form of revenue enhancement and assurance, increased employee productivity, and ongoing lower operating costs.

Our goal is to have 80% of the solutions developed through industry cloud come from partners. Each new solution that reaches , each piece of intellectual property that a partner turns into a service that fills a customer need 鈥 and creates a new revenue stream for that partner 鈥 and each customer implementation that applies industry cloud solutions brings us closer to fulfilling our vision.

Nowhere is the progress in SAP鈥檚 industry cloud 鈥 and the business opportunity for partners 鈥 more evident than in the discrete manufacturing industries, including automotive and mobility, high-tech, industrial manufacturing, and aerospace and defense. Fueled by fascinating use cases, new tech wrinkles, and creative, sometimes surprising partnerships, industry cloud activity in these industries is increasing rapidly. Here鈥檚 a look at some of the developments and the opportunities they鈥檙e generating for partners on the build (independent software developer), sell (reseller and channel partner), and service (system integration and implementation) sides of the ecosystem.

Integrating and Monetizing a Solution That Fortifies SAP鈥檚 Portfolio

51风流knew industrial customers could really benefit from augmented reality technology to help frontline workers remotely execute tasks. Rather than trying to fill that void ourselves, we worked with a market leader in this space, TeamViewer, to integrate its AR-based workflow platform Frontline with 51风流Field Service Management, 51风流Service and Asset Manager, 51风流Extended Warehouse Management, and 51风流Digital Manufacturing, knowing this would likely lead to a quality solution offering faster. This collaboration is creating听attractive commercial opportunities and customer pipeline for TeamViewer and SAP. More than ever, 51风流is handing opportunities like this over to industry cloud partners.

Developing and Monetizing New Solutions Faster, to Stay a Step Ahead of Customer Needs

鈥淚nnovating ahead of customer needs鈥 is part of Capgemini鈥檚 DNA, which is why, according to Josean Mendez, a Capgemini vice president and the firm鈥檚 global partner and ecosystem lead, the company has as an accelerator for solutions it develops for customers in automotive, discrete manufacturing, and other industries. Among them is an , CSI4Auto. Capgemini developed this industry cloud solution in close collaboration with customer Brose Fahrzeugteile SE & Co. KG. It鈥檚 a self-service supplier portal for interaction between suppliers that makes collaboration faster and more effective.

Leveraging 51风流Resources to Develop and Commercialize Valuable Intellectual Property

Sprint1 is a program in which 51风流invites partners to submit ideas for developing a new industry cloud solution, then provides resources to help selected partners develop those ideas and bring them to market. With support from SAP, BearingPoint developed and brought to 51风流Store an end-to-end . Have a use case you鈥檇 like SAP鈥檚 help in developing and commercializing? Check out these that are currently open to partners.

Diversifying the Business by Adapting IP Developed for One Industry to an Entirely New Industry, Market, and Customer Base

Amperfied, a subsidiary of industrial-scale printer manufacturer Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, leveraged its parent company鈥檚 intellectual property to create a new solution for electric vehicle fleets by bundling the 51风流E-Mobility solution with its own charging technology. The result is a solution that reduces costs for e-fleet customers.

Almost every day, it seems, I hear of another promising use case, partnership, customer implementation, or channel partner deal in the industry cloud pipeline. For partners with a cloud mindset, the opportunities in SAP’s industry cloud ecosystem are indeed real 鈥 and ready to bear fruit.

If you鈥檙e interested in being part of the industry cloud journey in the discrete manufacturing industries, find me and the team at in person April 17鈥21, 2023, in Hannover, Germany.

In Life Sciences and Healthcare, SAP鈥檚 Industry Cloud Is Key to Innovation /2023/03/life-sciences-healthcare-sap-industry-cloud/ Mon, 27 Mar 2023 12:15:26 +0000 /?p=203783 In life sciences and healthcare, 51风流shares with our customers and partners the overarching goals of improving individual lives and, more broadly, advancing medical science for better human health. SAP鈥檚 industry cloud is playing an increasingly crucial role in the pursuit of both.

While 51风流develops its own industry cloud solutions, we rely on our partners鈥 deep domain of expertise to satisfy highly specialized, continually evolving customer needs. Our job boils down to maximizing the value our customers derive from doing business with 51风流and our many partners. That value now depends on the shared successes that emerge from innovating and collaborating with our 51风流partner community that increasingly revolves around industry cloud.

Life Sciences Anchors

In life sciences, we aim to harness and industry cloud solutions to bring customers tailored, end-to-end suites built from components cultivated in the industry鈥檚 finest ecosystem. SAP鈥檚 deep expertise in life sciences has positioned us to deliver anchor solutions in four areas: clinical trials, manufacturing supply chain, batch release, and cell and gene therapy. But we鈥檙e not doing it alone.

We鈥檙e working closely with software and service partners in developing these core solutions and, more importantly, with consortia of customers whose needs, insights, and best practices become embedded in what we believe will become industry-standard products.

Even in areas in which 51风流develops its own solutions, white spaces remain and those can represent golden opportunities for partners and customers alike. Here are three examples: Raumedic p36鈥檚 UDI platform to ensure compliance with European Medical Device Regulation; Roche worked with Tenthpin and 51风流to clinical trial supply chain operations; and Klosterfau implemented Gramont鈥檚 Product Information Management to achieve Identification of Medicinal Products () compliance.

While solutions addressing specific industry pain points like these are an industry cloud staple, our partners are delivering value to our customers in other ways, too, as Merck did in BlueBoot accelerators to quickly implement and upgrade its plant maintenance user experience.

continue to proliferate by the day. We are dedicated to offering the best of what 51风流and its partners can bring to bear for our customers.

Open Healthcare Ecosystem

51风流is working to build a similar ecosystem for healthcare providers, delivering a modular healthcare system landscape of the future. The focus is to bring new, innovative healthcare business process capabilities in the areas of patient management, accounting, analytics, digital supply chain, and sourcing and procurement. This is a nascent effort, and one that鈥檚 advancing behind the of providing an open ecosystem and then giving partners the opportunity to lead in their areas of expertise.

To achieve this, working with hospital information system (HIS) providers is key. This is to foster integration between HIS and enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions in accordance with healthcare-specific electronic medical record (EMR) regulations. The reality is EMR regulatory requirements and functional demands differ by local market. It just makes sense to give a diversity of EMR and other healthcare solution providers the keys to an open platform 51风流Business Technology Platform and the healthcare data interoperability standards. This approach helps ensure the needed flexibility to give healthcare providers business process capabilities tailored to their individual and local market needs.

Our healthcare partners have embraced this approach. Several partners already did announcements to leverage this open ecosystem to benefit their 鈥 our 鈥 healthcare customers.

Life sciences and healthcare are very different industries with shared goals: preserving and improving human health. In both industries, our partners are essential to the success of our shared offerings and I鈥檓 thrilled by the enthusiasm I鈥檓 seeing from our partners. 罢丑别谤别鈥檚 no doubt that the combination of their industry-specific cloud offerings and the robustness and flexibility of 51风流Business Technology Platform can provide extraordinary value to our life sciences and healthcare customers for many years to come.

Consumer Industries Witness Surge of Innovation, Thanks to SAP鈥檚 Industry Cloud Partners /2023/02/consumer-industries-innovation-sap-industry-cloud-partners/ Wed, 22 Feb 2023 12:15:12 +0000 /?p=202859 As someone who鈥檚 been on the front lines working in SAP鈥檚 industry cloud ecosystem space since its inception in 2020, I鈥檝e learned to expect the unexpected.

One day might bring news of collaboration between companies that historically have been fierce rivals, or a customer implementation of modest scope that grows into a much larger and more lucrative project. Another day could bring reports of a new app or solution that uses an exciting tech wrinkle to fill a need for multiple customers. And another could bring news of an 51风流partner breaking into a new market or vertical by developing a solution with applicability across multiple industries, then monetizing it on .

A solution developed by 51风流partner DataXstream highlights the possibilities that SAP鈥檚 industry cloud offers to partners that serve consumer industries. The solution, , helps streamline order management. The results it鈥檚 producing for customers are impressive: higher margins, lower inventory and training costs, and an improved understanding among wholesalers and retailers of their customers. Using the solution, one customer not only realized ROI within seven days, it saw a 1.5% increase in margin on sales and a 50% reduction in inventory carrying cost during the first year following implementation. That鈥檚 US$7 million added to the bottom line and $50 million in reduced inventory carrying cost.

Stories like this are among many developments I鈥檝e been following in SAP鈥檚 partnership-driven, collaborate-to-innovate industry cloud ecosystem, which includes consumer-focused verticals like consumer products, retail, life sciences, healthcare, wholesale distribution, agribusiness, and fashion, along with more than a dozen other verticals. Here are some recent highlights from the consumer industries segment of the ecosystem:

  • Apps developed exclusively by partners, with little to no involvement from SAP other than to provide the business technology platform (51风流Business Technology Platform) and a marketplace (51风流Store) in which to sell them.
  • Apps built not by a developer but by a large customer鈥檚 internal development team, leveraging 51风流BTP. One major global consumer products company recently did exactly that, using their 51风流Business Technology Platform investment to develop an analytics solution that it is now deployed within a broader 51风流digital infrastructure.
  • System integrators 鈥渂ottling鈥 the key elements of a solution they developed for a specific consumer products company to offer it to other companies with a similar need.
  • New 51风流and partner commercialization models coming to life, enabling partners to quickly benefit from new 鈥 and in many cases, substantial 鈥 revenue streams created by the solutions they have developed.
  • 51风流handing over a development opportunity on the wholesale distribution side to an industry cloud partner instead of taking the work on ourselves, recognizing the partner was best equipped to develop the solution.
  • Developers with expertise in technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), video graphics, and robotics bringing solutions powered by those capabilities to customers in consumer industries that provide the foundation for business transformation.

What鈥檚 particularly gratifying for me is that little to none of this likely would have happened even five years ago. Built on the premise that, by working together, 51风流and members of the industry cloud community can create more value for customers and themselves than they otherwise would working separately, the program thus far has produced hundreds of potentially high-impact apps and integrated, end-to-end solutions.

SAP鈥檚 industry cloud represents an important evolution of SAP鈥檚 approach to partnership and serving the end customer, where the focus is on solving the customer鈥檚 business problem whether the solution comes exclusively from an 51风流partner, from 51风流itself, or a combination of the two, and where partners have a greater opportunity to monetize the solutions they have a role in developing. Ultimately, we鈥檙e building a vibrant community that, through co-innovation, creates open, ready-to-integrate, and ready-to-implement solutions to meet critical needs in customers鈥 business application landscapes.

The hundreds of consumer-focused solutions already produced via SAP鈥檚 industry cloud are just the tip of the iceberg. The door is also wide open for existing partners that serve consumer industries to become more engaged in the ecosystem and for new partners to become part of it. If they share SAP鈥檚 appetite for co-innovation, if they鈥檙e driven like we are to support customers in their business transformation efforts, and if they鈥檙e open to finding new partners, customers, markets, and revenue streams, our industry cloud community will welcome them with open arms.

51风流Supports Utilities Across the EU to Enable Energy Transition /2023/02/utilities-energy-transition-eu/ Tue, 14 Feb 2023 12:15:58 +0000 /?p=202853 The energy crisis has two faces: the need for decarbonization in order to limit global temperature increase and rising highly volatile energy prices due to energy market turbulence caused by the war in Ukraine.

The need for decarbonization has been the driving force behind policies , while the Russian invasion led to additional policies to phase out EU dependency on Russian fossil fuels.

The common solution to both crises would be to stop using fossil fuels and shift to renewable energy sources. It is therefore no surprise that renewable energies are the fastest growing source of energy, contributing half of the growth in global supplies and becoming the largest source of power by 2040.* In most regions, wind and solar are also the cheapest source of electricity generation, even without subsidies.**

Pressure to shift to renewables has been high for decades; the current crisis around exploding and volatile energy prices demands action in even shorter time frames.

In France, utility companies are allowed to reduce energy taxes in order to limit the increase of energy prices to a maximum of four percent. In Germany,听 the price cap for gas and energy — 鈥淕as- und Strompreisbremse鈥 — has been introduced to motivate citizens toward safe energy and to shield energy billing amount for gas, electricity, and district heating for 80% of their consumption the previous year.

鈥51风流works hand in hand with the German-speaking 51风流User Group and other associations to make sure newly passed legislation gets integrated into our systems so that our customers can fulfill obligations toward their end customers鈥 explains Daniela Sellmann, global vice president and head of the Utilities Industry Business Unit at 51风流SE.

This shift to renewables also requires a growing number of decentralized energy resources (DER). Renewables like solar, wind, or bioenergy are largely generated by small local generation assets, which feed directly into the distribution grid. The intermittent nature of solar and wind causes challenges for the balancing of demand and supply in the power grids.

The demand side is also changing, with industrial, commercial, and household customers increasingly generating their own energy and becoming energy “flexumers” — generators, flexibility providers, and consumers of energy.

鈥淭his causes a shift in utilities鈥 business models, from pure selling of energy and water to becoming a full-service provider for energy flexumers,鈥 says Sellmann.

Digital transformation is both an answer to the challenges of the energy transition and driver of new business models and services. This has been recognized in the EU with the creation of the Digitalization of Energy Action Plan. The action plan defines measures on how modern technologies can help improve the efficient use of energy resources, ease the integration of renewables into the grid, and save costs for EU consumers and energy companies.

As nearly everything becomes 鈥渟mart,鈥 utilities need a strategy on how to manage the avalanche of data coming from devices and other sources and use it to feed their intelligence. At SAP, we call this the intelligent enterprise, which is enabled by integration of data and processes and innovation with industry best practices. A cornerstone for this is the 51风流Utilities Core solution.

鈥淲ith 51风流Utilities Core, we provide utilities with a proven platform to reliably run their core business processes like meter-to-cash in the cloud,” says Sellmann. “We are using intelligent technologies like machine learning to further automate core processes and increase efficiency. SAP鈥檚 Industry Cloud Success Depends on Partners /2023/01/sap-industry-cloud-success-depends-on-partners/ Tue, 31 Jan 2023 12:15:05 +0000 /?p=202417 51风流announced its industry cloud initiative in June 2020 at the height of pandemic lockdowns. At a moment of crisis and constraint, we described a vision of freedom and collaboration. We spoke of an 鈥渙pen yet integrated innovation space for SAP, partners, and customers,鈥 one that would let developers build their own cloud-based applications that could tap into SAP鈥檚 core process and data domains through open APIs. The idea was to let creative partners large and small develop industry-specific solutions above the waterline without having to brave the intelligent suite鈥檚 engine room.

Close to three years later, it鈥檚 now clear that SAP鈥檚 industry cloud was an idea whose time had come. It鈥檚 proving to be an enabling technology of surprising power and scope, and it has created more than just a niche. Industry cloud is proving to be an innovation ecosystem unto itself, one that鈥檚 already fostered hundreds of creative solutions to a wide spectrum of business problems. Through our collective embrace of what has proven to be a very powerful idea indeed, industry cloud is also driving profound change at SAP, its partners, and customers.

The numbers tell a compelling story: what started with a handful of partners in four industries now encompasses nearly 300 software partner solutions, with 150 more in the pipeline, across two dozen industries. In addition, our top global strategic service partners alone have invested on the order of US$150 million in industry cloud offerings. And the momentum shows no signs of slowing.

Out to Lunch #12: On Cloud 9 with Industry Cloud

Industry Focus

A cloud-based combination of core processes, plus a dynamic and growing portfolio of industry-specific solutions, will be critical to our customers鈥 success. Our customers are rightly demanding speed, modularity, and flexibility in supporting the rapid innovation they need to exploit new business opportunities, and they see that cloud-based ecosystems are the vehicle. IDC recently estimated that industry ecosystems such as SAP鈥檚 industry cloud will see a than those pursuing traditional innovation approaches.

While 51风流is developing many of its own industry cloud solutions, we believe partners that live and breathe their industries ultimately will drive a large share of the overall industry cloud product portfolio.

Partner Perspective

Industry cloud opens the door to partners all over the world to avail the solutions embodying their expertise to SAP鈥檚 enormous installed base. From a technical perspective, industry cloud鈥檚 open APIs enable the integration of cloud-based solutions via into the 51风流core, thereby letting partner solutions tap into . Plugging in at the periphery keeps the 51风流core 鈥渃lean,鈥 sharply reducing the risk of unintended consequences and sparing the development and testing necessary to mitigate that risk. The result is a much faster innovation cycle.

Those are the sorts of benefits we anticipated when we launched industry cloud. But there have also been pleasant surprises. Our biggest partners 鈥 global strategic service partners such as Accenture, Capgemini, EY, IBM, Deloitte, InfoSys, Wipro, and more than a dozen others 鈥 have developed more than 40 end-to-end industry cloud solutions. These comprehensive offerings can include any number of individual industry cloud solutions that are then delivered as a broader offering.

Another pleasant surprise perhaps shouldn鈥檛 have been a surprise at all. When you create an ecosystem, unexpected relationships will develop. In particular, we are seeing major system integrators, local service partners, and resellers picking up on the solutions of niche industry cloud developers, vetting those solutions, and introducing them to customers that might otherwise not have the time, resources, or inclination to assemble point solutions on their own.

Customers First

Our experience so far is that customers value industry cloud for many of the same reasons that our partners do 鈥 in particular, the speed and simplicity of development and integration and the filling of solution gaps by 51风流partners steeped in their various industries. But some customers also recognize the industry cloud innovation layer as a sort of sandbox in which they can develop their own solutions and, in some cases, productize them for their industries. Customers have long been 51风流software development partners, but industry cloud is catalyzing that dynamic.

SAP鈥檚 industry cloud demonstrates that if you offer up an environment in which smart, creative, and ambitious people and organizations with problems to solve can operate with state-of-the-art tools and wide latitude, good things happen. That鈥檚 manifesting in the momentum we鈥檙e witnessing today in the industry cloud initiative. While aspects of ours, our partners鈥, and our customers鈥 collective successes with industry cloud have been surprising, this was an idea whose time had clearly come.

Five Ways Automakers and Suppliers Can Prepare for the Future of Mobility /2022/11/five-ways-automotive-industry-future-of-mobility/ Mon, 21 Nov 2022 11:15:32 +0000 /?p=200542 What could the future of mobility look like in just 10 years?

Imagine streets populated with electric vehicles (EV) and gas stations replaced by EV charging stations at shopping centers and grocery stores. Mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) dominates the transportation landscape, offering鈥痷sers the most affordable, sustainable, and efficient way to get around. Some cars are self-driving and interconnected, talking to each other and sharing their location and next moves.鈥疻hat鈥檚 more, many cars are connected with the ability to send and receive all types of users鈥 data.

To realize this new reality, change will happen quickly, and regulations will only accelerate this transition. In Europe, a package of legislative proposals, 鈥,鈥 aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030. It includes a policy that requires a 55% reduction of average emissions in new cars by 2030 and a 100% reduction by 2035. In the United States, President Biden set a bold goal that EVs make up at least 50% of all vehicles sold by 2030. Since he took office, automakers announced investments of more than in EV manufacturing and $48 billion in battery production in the U.S. alone.

Add consumer sentiment to the equation 鈥 of global car buyers are looking for an EV 鈥 and it鈥檚 no surprise that carmakers, suppliers, and dealerships recognize the need for dynamic and continuous innovation to be profitable and sustainable.

The Digital Innovations Behind the Booming Life Sciences Industry /2022/11/digital-innovations-life-sciences-industry/ Tue, 01 Nov 2022 11:15:39 +0000 /?p=200288 Life sciences industry manufacturers are digitalizing business to deliver more personalized services and head off supply chain disruptions while reducing costs and innovating for the future. analysts predicted that by 2023, 75% of life science manufacturers will invest in intelligent supply chain solutions to enable resilience and prevent future disruptions in health emergencies such as COVID-19.

According to researchers at , precision medicine therapeutics have accounted for 25% to 40% of all FDA approvals in the past seven years. They believe precision medicine has 鈥減roven its worth with mounting evidence of improved patient outcomes in oncology, cardiology, endocrinology, and other disease areas.鈥 From the patient鈥檚 perspective, analysts suggested a digital-first 鈥渉ealth journey鈥 vision that prioritizes digital engagement and the use of digital interactions, products, and services throughout an individual鈥檚 journey through health, wellness, and illness.

Data Makes Life Sciences Supply Chains More Intelligent

Michael Townsend, research director of Life Sciences Commercial Strategies at IDC, saw the industry in the early stages of digitalization, focusing on the value of technology that brings intelligence across life sciences supply chains.

鈥淐ompanies are beginning to make processes more digital, applying intelligence from technologies to make better decisions,鈥 said Townsend. 鈥淔or instance, there鈥檚 significant investment in supply chain solutions like digital twins, where you construct a digital model to experiment with what-if scenarios in performance at various points along the chain such as assembly, shipment, or geography. You can stress test alternate choices without actually having to make any changes.鈥

Townsend said that segmentation was another intelligent node across supply chains, allowing companies to identify and store medicines and packaging based on country-specific regulations, improving lead times, reducing unused inventory, and simplifying shipping. Some organizations are also using control towers to track demand patterns against materials and component availability, avoiding overstocks and shortages. For example, if COVID-19 cases rise in a certain region, a vaccine manufacturer can act faster to stock up and start shipping prevention and treatment products to that location. Connecting data across supply chains for quick response times applies to any unexpected disruption, including natural disasters and political conflicts.

Ecosystems Surface Expert Wisdom

Mandar Paralkar, head of Life Sciences Industry at SAP, agreed that organizations are moving from historical emphasis on addressing disease with bulk manufacturing of medications to personalized therapies that improve individual patient outcomes and involve more ecosystem collaboration. In an industry with longer product development cycles, he said that collaborative consortiums like are a way to share intelligence for expedited success.

鈥淲hether startups or established leaders, life sciences companies are using technology to improve patient outcomes and company profitability while reducing costs and risk,鈥 said Paralkar. 鈥淭hey鈥檝e realized the imperative to compete as an ecosystem across connected digital supply chains and smart factories. One example of this is 51风流Intelligent Clinical Supply Management, a solution we innovated with a consortium of customers and partners. This collaborative effort exemplifies how innovation in the cloud can potentially help life sciences organizations create, manufacture, and deliver effective solutions faster, allowing the partner ecosystem to compliment value-added services.鈥

Cloud-Based Technology Disrupts Life Sciences

The pandemic has irrevocably disrupted life sciences, revealing a new vision for innovation from cloud-based collaboration. Almost overnight, companies invested in technology to work from home, and that bled over into new ways of thinking about the use of technology in areas like process automation and decentralized clinical trials, along with working together in trusted relationships.

鈥淐ollaboration hubs where multiple, trusted entities can exchange information, collaborating to learn from each other and solve problems is part of the life sciences vision,鈥 said Townsend. 鈥淓xperts involved with clinical supply chains and other aspects of life sciences are motivated to streamline processes, make suggestions to software providers, and share information between systems. Cloud-based software is critical. If you鈥檙e on subscription-based software, updates are almost in real time and it鈥檚 much easier to collaborate and access different sources of data when it鈥檚 available in the cloud.鈥

Achieving a Healthier and Profitable Vision

As costs and regulatory pressures rise and educated patients clamor for personalized treatment, digital innovations will inexorably alter the life sciences landscape. Within a few years, researchers predicted 75% of trials will be “patient-centric” decentralized clinical trials, 90% will be hybrid, and at least 10% will be virtual, driven by a 30% growth in connected health technologies.鈥 They said that by 2025 the market for prescription digital therapeutics will more than triple, focusing on mental health and chronic conditions, blurring the boundaries between healthcare and life sciences. It鈥檚 no wonder that analysts advised life sciences manufacturers to prioritize 鈥渃linical solutions that include interoperability as a core feature, including easier connectivity of content and data between clinical sites, sponsors, clinical research organizations, and other ecosystem participants.鈥 Trusted intelligent data is the must-have for a healthier future.

Cashew Coast Modernizes Cashew Processing with SAP /2022/08/cashew-coast-sap-rural-sourcing-management/ Fri, 12 Aug 2022 10:15:51 +0000 /?p=198631 Ouattara Oyala is happy that farming cashew nuts in C么te d鈥橧voire, the Ivory Coast, now allows her to save money for her children鈥檚 education. 鈥淚 am now able to take care of myself and my family,鈥 she says.

She says her dream is to enable her children to be educated and become successful in life, benefitting both her and the community 鈥 one of 87 rural villages in West Africa鈥檚 Ivory Coast where farmers work with Cajooma SAS, the of Cashew Coast.

When she joined the village cooperative that Cashew Coast helped set up, the company trained her and taught her how to pick the best-quality cashews in order to fetch the highest prices.

Oyala has worked with Cashew Coast, a leading producer and distributor of high-quality cashew nuts for the past two years. Before that she worked alone. Now she works with other women in small groups, and that makes it easier to work. 鈥淚 was alone, now we are working together,鈥 she says.

Ivory Coast Cashew Nut Industry Embraces Technology

Video by Rana Hamzakadi and Matt Dillman

Ivory Coast is one of the world鈥檚 largest producers of cashew nuts, thanks to farmers like Oyala who, together with her fellow plot owners and farmers, pick the yellow and orange cashew fruit off the forest floor. Once harvested, the farmers must separate the nuts from the fruit they grow.

Unlike other companies that ship the raw nuts out of the country for processing, Cashew Coast process their nuts within Ivory Coast, lowering the carbon footprint. Nuts go directly from local farmers to Cashew Coast’s central warehouse in Bouak茅 to be sorted, weighed, and bagged before being sent to Cashew Coast鈥檚 organic factory in Azagui茅 for processing.

Until recently, Cashew Coast kept paper-based records of the farm-side of the process, but as the industry grew it became more and more difficult to keep track of the data and analyze it. Cashew Coast executives turned to 51风流for help when they realized that they needed a more advanced system to track the cashews from farm to processing plant — and eventually to table.

Joel Bagbila, Cashew Coast鈥檚 farmer integration director, explains that the company also has a loftier ambition. 鈥淥ur mission is to be the first country worldwide in terms of production and quality,鈥 he says.

To help achieve this goal, Cashew Coast chose to implement , an industry cloud solution built on the 51风流Business Technology Platform, at its Cajooma SAS branch. Cashew Coast鈥檚 digital transformation journey provides immediate benefits to the farmers, including more transparent prices, and enables the company to control quality and make much more timely decisions.

In the future it will also enable retailers to gain traceability and visibility into the origin of the cashew nuts and provide transparency to their consumers – connecting farmers and consumers in a profitable and sustainable value chain.

鈥淭oday, for a customer, it’s important to know where the product he or she is ready to buy, is coming from,鈥 says Achta Cherif, head of quality at Cashew Coast. 鈥淗aving this information enables the customer to make his/her choice. This is important for us, as well.鈥

Cashew Coast executives say they chose SAP鈥檚 cloud technology because it offered a number of key advantages. 鈥淲e wanted the best in class, and we wanted to deal with the developer team as opposed to a third-party integrator 鈥 which 51风流Rural Sourcing Management offers,鈥 says Salma Seetaroo, co-founder and CEO of Cashew Coast.

She says the implementation went surprisingly smoothly. 鈥淭he 51风流implementation team were flexible and quick to understand our need 鈥 they were a bunch of millennials who loved working on a project like ours. And it was just great fun and I never expected it to be as smooth.鈥

51风流is now remotely training two recent graduate recruits at Cashew Coast 鈥 Technology Manager Mohamed Traor茅 and Sales and Sustainability Manager Rose Koffi 鈥 to continue phase 2 of the 51风流Rural Sourcing Management implementation. Going forward, Salma explains, the company wants to bring more traceability to agricultural products in Ivory Coast with 51风流technology.

So, the next time you grab a handful of cashew nuts, consider this: there is a good chance they started their journey in the Ivory Coast and just maybe were picked up from the forest floor by Oyala or one of her friends.

The Take: Water, War, Weather and Wheat Ignite Interest in Farming Technology /2022/05/the-take-farming-technology-water-war-weather-wheat/ Tue, 24 May 2022 18:00:41 +0000 /?p=196975 What鈥檚 News

Russia鈥檚 invasion of Ukraine has deepened an agricultural crisis that has been brewing for years. Global wheat inventories have fallen by about 20% of annual consumption, a food security specialist told the United Nations Security Council on May 19.

Only 10 weeks of global consumption of wheat exists. Russia and Ukraine account for about a third of global wheat production. Droughts not seen for more than 20 years are the primary culprit, although supply chain disruptions, war and regulations limiting natural gas, the source of nitrogen-based fertilizer, have further worsened the problem.

SAP鈥檚 Take

鈥淚f it were only the output, it would be bad enough,鈥 said Anja Strothkaemper, 51风流vice president of Agribusiness and Commodity Management. 鈥淏ut because the inputs are in short supply, there is a lot of fear that even countries that are not affected might not have enough fertilizer to have the same levels of production as in previous years. That means this is likely to continue for a while.鈥

While technology cannot solve this global crisis in 10 weeks, it can help producers find alternatives to mitigate the impact of drought on food commodities like wheat, corn, soybeans and sunflower seeds, Strothkaemper said. It also can help make better demand predictions and manage risk.

Smart farming and precision agriculture involve the collection of data from sensors, weather stations and satellite imagery. The data can be combined and analyzed to produce more informed decisions concerning land management.

鈥淚f I know what the soil looks like, I can have a better planting pattern,鈥 Strothkaemper explained. 鈥淚 can have a better fertilization pattern.”

The cost of nitrogen-based fertilizer, important for growing wheat and corn, is rising fast, meaning it must be used carefully, Strothkaemper said. 鈥淎s fertilizer prices skyrocket, you will try your best to increase the output of what is available to you and that’s where technology can play a role.鈥

Industry cloud software allows producers and makers of products such as agrochemicals and sensor equipment to collaborate. Data modeling can standardize information from hundreds of thousands of growers, machinery makers and fertilizer manufacturers, so it can be processed to reveal insights and discover the most efficient farming model under various scenarios.

Geospatial technology, which combines huge amounts of data with geographical mapping, can create rich maps that can be used to create more accurate weather forecasts for individual fields, which can help producers more precisely determine what to plant and when. Land once thought unproductive because of changes in climate, for instance, may be made productive. Similar information can help manage risk and price futures contracts used for hedging agricultural commodities.

Growing is only half the battle; supply chain management is also an integral part of the solution. While technology cannot lift a massive quarantine or put a truck driver back on the road, it can provide visibility and offer alternatives. Customer relationship software can analyze demand, helping ensure products are sold to the right buyers.

Helping Shape the Future of the Cell and Gene Therapy Supply Chain /2022/05/cell-and-gene-therapies-future-supply-chain/ Tue, 10 May 2022 13:06:27 +0000 /?p=196265 Cell and gene therapies (CGT) are a new frontier of patient-centric treatments in the life sciences industry. As of the third quarter of 2021, there were more than 2,000 cell and gene therapies in active clinical trials and just a few dozen approved.

While CGTs offer a potentially promising new option for patients, they are complex to develop, manufacture, and deliver. In contrast to traditional therapies, individualized therapies often involve extracting cells or tissue from the patient or a donor, processing the sample, manufacturing a personalized therapy, and administering the final product to the patient.

There are already many companies working to deliver CGTs to patients, ranging from small startups to large biopharmaceutical companies that are aiming to realize a full portfolio of cell and gene therapies.

There are also specialized IT solutions available that are supporting some CGT business processes and addressing some CGT-specific challenges.

Most life sciences companies are moving away from single-tenant portals and looking for a standardized platform that will allow the GCT industry to scale. Organizations offering cell and gene therapies need a time-sensitive and fault-tolerant orchestration engine to manage the flow of samples from treatment centers to manufacturing locations and then the return of the personalized therapies for administration at treatment centers.

Based on intensive market research and collaboration, 51风流realized that there is a significant technology gap that needs to be filled to support the safe and efficient delivery of these specialized products to patients. Therefore, 51风流has undertaken the development of an industry-standard CGT orchestration solution. To complement and support the development of this solution, we have initiated an industry consortium to ensure the solution supports emerging industry standards.

The solution will be built on and will be delivered as part of SAP鈥檚 industry cloud. The CGT solution will integrate with treatment center platforms using open APIs to support the broadest ecosystem possible. It will be pre-integrated with 51风流S/4HANA for manufacturing and other processes but will use open APIs to enable interoperability with other manufacturing platforms and contract manufacturing organizations.

The objective of the new cell and gene therapy solution from 51风流will be to help ensure that the right patient is treated with the right medicine at the right time without error in the value chain. In order to achieve this result, the planned capabilities include:

  • End-to-end chain of identity, chain of custody, and supply orchestration to track CGT products to ensure that patients get the right medicine and can be treated safely as planned
  • Facilitating critical value stream management activities and business processes — such as logistics, slot scheduling, labeling, batch release, and invoicing — to reduce overall process lead time and support the short shelf life typical of CGTs
  • Ability to manage high order and process variability as well as unpredictability, with exceptions being the standard, and to reduce operational cost due to optimized supply chain execution and fewer manual activities
  • Streamlined processes and real-time data to help leaders make informed decisions on every aspect of the CGT supply chain
  • Better collaboration and increased satisfaction among all CGT stakeholders, from healthcare providers to life sciences companies, cell labs, contract manufacturers, and logistics providers with real-time, event-driven data exchange based on stable and published APIs
  • Supporting post-marketing commitments, such as tracking of outcomes and outcome-based pricing
  • Enabling compliance with applicable regulations like HIPAA and GXP

鈥淟ife sciences biopharmaceutical companies are working to bring cell and gene therapies to patients and have gained or are about to gain market approval by the regulatory agencies,” said Matt Laukaitis, general manager of Consumer Industries at SAP. “So now they need an industry-standard solution suitable to orchestrate brand new processes required by these therapies. SAP’s industry cloud aims to deliver these capabilities with limited disruption to the current landscape, open integrations to support a broad ecosystem, and with a very short time to value for our customers.鈥

If you are interested in joining the consortium to shape the future of SAP’s cell and gene therapy solution, please contact the solution management team:

51风流today also announced the availability of the 51风流Intelligent Clinical Supply Chain Management solution, for which development was also based on an industry consortium of almost 30 life sciences organizations.

Industry Cloud: Advancing Business Transformation for a Changing World /2022/01/industry-cloud-solutions-business-transformation/ Mon, 10 Jan 2022 13:15:16 +0000 /?p=193656 Justifiably proud of their digital accomplishments, most companies still suffer from a false sense of digital capabilities. Their increasing attention on evolving customer experiences, product and service innovations, production efficiencies, and competitive advantages leaves little room for driving much needed change in core operations, such as facility management or payroll processing.

But the world is changing, and keeping one foot on the gas pedal for higher visibility projects while pumping the brakes with the other foot for back-office changes is not enough to keep up. Businesses must rapidly move both aspects of their digital strategies in unison to drive significant progress so that competitors are challenged to keep pace.

With , organizations can achieve this balance.

Modernizing Industries to Meet Unique Expectations

51风流makes industry cloud solutions easier to discover, subscribe to, and use, offering customers access to unified user experiences, familiar design paradigms, and plug-and-play integrations to reinvent themselves and their markets simultaneously. Organizations from every industry can then deploy specialized solutions to optimize, extend, and transform their core business processes by digitalizing and automating operations across their business.

For example, utilities companies are shifting operations to provide more in response to growing demand for decarbonization and decentralization. Industry cloud solutions can be used to combine Big Data-enabled energy data management for millions of end devices on a cloud-based, open platform with smart, industry-specific analytics and integration to support energy-related core processes.

Meanwhile, logistics service providers can collect various types of information from their vehicle fleets with a enabled by an asset network. By consolidating multiple data sources into a single network-based cloud platform, they can rapidly ramp up new business models, monetize vehicle information across customer channels, and enable collaboration and innovation with third-party participants.

Consumer products companies also have access to an intelligent virtual assistant that streamlines the process and eliminates the need for manual matching and auditing. The solution leverages embedded machine learning to automate steps, reduce errors, and help avoid disputes. Organizations can then aggregate and enrich market activity in real time, accelerate balance sheet reconciliation with greater accuracy, lower the cost per claim, and enhance workflow productivity — all while establishing stronger customer relationships.

With an industry cloud solution, retailers can improve their processes through embedded machine learning models and an analytics engine that accelerate and ease profitable decision-making. The solution turns the challenges of product returns into opportunities that improve customer retention and brand connection with a fluid returns experience for consumers, while increasing productivity and lowering processing costs across sales channels.

Retailers can also benefit from an developed to centralize the monitoring, analysis, and management of their omnichannel order processes. By optimizing nodes in their network — such as distribution centers, stores, dark stores, and third-party drop shipping — they can reduce costs, improve agility, and increase brand satisfaction by meeting their customer promises as expected.

Industry cloud solutions can even enable emerging industries, such as automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) installing and operating residential and commercial charging stations for electric vehicles. An solution integrates end-to-end billing processes with one platform to lower energy costs and avoid expensive grid-connection expenditure through connections to energy service providers. And for their customers, the cost of improving their carbon footprint and impact on the planet becomes more affordable.

Competing as an Ecosystem Forged by Innovation

Business transformation begins with an idea 鈥 whether fixing a problem or discovering and creating new value. But eventually, companies translate ideas differently to address their industry鈥檚 unique market dynamics, customer demands, public expectations, and regulatory pressures.

For 51风流customers, the answer to turning their ideas into meaningful technologies, products, services, business models, or people experiences is an industry cloud solution designed to meet their unique reality. Doing so offers the scale, access, and support they need to adapt to emerging dynamics continuously and rapidly, without sacrificing process efficiency or disrupting their other innovation efforts.

Brose, Capgemini, and 51风流Turn Vision into Value with Co-Innovation /2021/12/brose-capgemini-sap-vision-value-co-innovation/ Fri, 17 Dec 2021 12:00:40 +0000 /?p=193268 German automotive supplier Brose Fahrzeugteile SE & Co. KG has co-innovated with Capgemini and 51风流on the development of a secure and autonomous self-service supplier portal application in the cloud.

In an era of business disruptions and rapid technology advancements, companies must adopt continuous innovation to stay ahead and win by leading the change. Co-innovation, as a form of inside-out open innovation, has evolved as a way of breaking down the traditional innovation silos.

At SAP, co-innovation occurs every day in a multitude of ways. We work with partners, customers, universities, governments, standardization groups, and others — all of which contribute to creating sustainable and mutual competitive advantage.

51风流has embraced an openness within our ecosystem that serves to accelerate the overall innovation process in creating solutions that deliver value. Co-innovation is part of SAP鈥檚 DNA.

Handling a Complex Network of Suppliers

What does a co-innovation project look like? A collaboration with longtime customer Brose and trusted partner Capgemini offers a perfect 鈥 even 鈥 example.

Looking back at more than 100 years of corporate history, including numerous patent applications, Brose combines tradition with innovation. As the fourth-largest automotive supplier in family ownership, it has established itself as one of the top 40 companies in the industry worldwide, operating 65 locations in 24 countries. With that comes a complex network of suppliers, including more than 2,000 production-relevant suppliers and 8,000 supplier-employees who frequently provide different functional services to different Brose companies.

With a self-service supplier portal solution, Brose created a space where the digital interaction between suppliers and Brose easily can take place, enabling suppliers to manage their accounts on their own. This way, they can both receive and maintain information and data needed. The supplier portal acts as the single point of contact, providing听 transparency over supplier users, making collaboration faster and more effective.

鈥淔or me, innovation always starts with a business challenge that needs to be solved,鈥 said Christian Ley, CIO at Brose Fahrzeugteile SE & Co. KG. 鈥淭o see what we have achieved now, developing a solution tailored to our needs using state-of-the-art technology, is both exciting and a great example of what is possible through collaboration.鈥

Working together with Capgemini, a global leader in consulting, digital transformation, technology, and engineering services 鈥 as well as one of SAP鈥檚 strategic partners for co-development and co-innovation in the automotive industry 鈥 Brose decided to bring the idea to the next level by making it available for other companies, as it addresses an industry-wide challenge.

鈥淲e are delighted to co-innovate together with 51风流and Brose in creating Capgemini鈥檚 Supplier Integration for Automotive (CSI4Auto),鈥 Josean Mendez, vice president and global 51风流partner executive lead at Capgemini, shared. 鈥淭his solution is an excellent example of what we aspire to achieve in partnering with SAP. This innovative approach is a blueprint for future engagements and adds to 51风流and Capgemini鈥檚 value in the automotive market.鈥

Leveraging the Power of the Cloud and 51风流BTP

51风流provides infrastructure ready to scale with (51风流BTP), which supports integration, conversion of data to value, and extensibility for 51风流and third-party application and data assets.

Instead of building a custom development solution from scratch, the development team identified the right blend of services from 51风流BTP to solve the problem at hand. The services helped the team to reduce both the development time and the custom software development to a minimum.

Running in the cloud the application is planned to be part of SAP鈥檚 industry cloud solution portfolio, making it easy for future customers to extend their end-to-end processes and adopt at their own pace.
