Overnight, millions of Ukrainians fled their country and became refugees, with the vast majority pouring into Poland in search of asylum as their cities turned into battlefields.

The tech team at took the company鈥檚 purpose 鈥 building a better working world 鈥 to heart. Supported by , a global initiative to positively impact 1 billion lives by 2030, the team made it their mission to use technology to help solve a problem: to connect countless refugees landing in Poland with the resources they need to survive. The result, the , was live within six urgent weeks.

Responding to a Need

Check out the Better Together: Customer Conversations series

“It was winter, and women and children were standing in long queues for necessities like milk, diapers, and blankets,” Diksha de Sousa, 51风流Core Tech at EY, recalled. “And we thought a platform can make this simpler. Resources were available 鈥 donations were streaming into NGOs working all over Poland 鈥 but organizations had no centralized database or way to share what they had available and where.鈥 So de Sousa鈥檚 team mobilized.

The development process would not be typical; this need was dire and immediate. It was about saving lives. When they reached out to other EY groups for support, the response, de Sousa said, 鈥渨as overwhelming. I think we had the UX design in three days.鈥 The EY development team worked at a breakneck pace to create the app while coordinating with NGOs on the ground in Poland and working with the marketing teams who would mobilize the app through the power of social media.

Harnessing New Technology to Deliver Impactful Solutions

鈥淲e needed automation, we needed workflow technology, and, last but not least, we needed the stable backend,鈥 so that the NGOs could upload all their data and ensure it would be stored safely, explained Oktavian Wagner, EY鈥檚 head of CT Innovation, Technology, and Architecture. And, since no one on the development team could write in Polish or Ukrainian, they also needed translation capabilities. 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP) was a natural fit, not only because EY was already running close to a thousand 51风流instances but also because, as Wagner explained, 鈥渨e share the same vision: using technology to create a better world.鈥

Turn your ideas into reality with 51风流BTP

With 51风流Build solutions, a low-code app development and automation portfolio, and with the support of 51风流Business Accelerator Hub, the EY team brought the new EY ERA from ideation to execution in record time. While the technology was crucial, Axel Janz, global head of 51风流Products and Innovations at EY, said having live, personal support from 51风流was invaluable. 鈥淎t the end of the day, the people make the difference,鈥 Janz said.

Also crucial to EY鈥檚 whirlwind development process was a laser focus on user experience. 鈥淵ou want to make sure that the application is stable, that it’s fast, that it’s scalable, that it’s safe, but also that it’s easy to use 鈥 concentrating on what we call the workflow of the end user,鈥 Wagner said. The end user in this case was refugees. 鈥淭hey don’t want to see a commercial. They don’t want to see what else we’re doing at EY. They don’t even want to see and touch the technology. They just want to use it.鈥

A Targeted Tool with Global Potential

EY ERA has 162 registered humanitarian aid distribution centers in 53 cities in Poland and more than 15,000 users, refugees who can find the necessities they need to care for their families. The app鈥檚 impact is already reaching beyond the borders of Poland and the ongoing crisis for Ukrainian refugees. EY ERA has also been deployed in response to Australian wildfires and is ready to adapt to other natural disasters or humanitarian crises. Whatever the future brings, EY is committed to deploying new technology to serve people in need and to build a better working world for all of us.

The Power and Scale of a Global Sustainability Ecosystem /2022/01/global-sustainability-ecosystem-power-scale/ Tue, 11 Jan 2022 08:59:42 +0000 /?p=193712 According to a recent , most businesses have not embedded sustainability into their core strategies. In some cases, corporations see sustainability management as a regulatory and compliance challenge rather than a strategic opportunity for economic and social growth.

Therefore, businesses run different technologies and end up operating in silos, which prevent them from connecting financial outcomes with non-financial metrics. Additionally, companies can view sustainability as an after-the-fact reporting activity without any influence in its executive decisions.

Today, more than ever, businesses need to holistically manage their business models across their supply chains, operations, and people agenda.

At the recent COP26 climate conference, business and government leaders agreed on the urgency听to reinvent their business models to accelerate sustainable business performance. EY Unlocks Innovation and Opportunity in the Chemical Industry /2021/07/ey-unlocks-innovation-opportunity-chemical-industry/ Thu, 15 Jul 2021 11:15:20 +0000 /?p=186633 Ernst & Young LLP (EY) and 51风流create and deliver innovative solutions to help clients transform their enterprise and fuel business performance. Now more than ever, there is an opportunity for organizations to reframe their future through a fresh lens of industry-focused value drivers.

With deep industry knowledge and a commitment to value realization, the 51风流partner ecosystem is critical to the success of the chemical industry. 51风流partners help customers of all sizes, in countries worldwide take advantage of SAP鈥檚 innovative solutions, simplify their business processes, and orchestrate the Intelligent Enterprise. To bring this perspective to the 51风流community in the chemical industry, we are continuing with the fifth edition of the Chemical Industry Partner Stage series.

The chemical industry is undergoing a structural transformation with macroeconomic supply chain challenges and post-COVID-19 business impacts. Chemical companies are under pressure to:

  • Adapt to customer demands and delivery commitments
  • Address the effects of commoditization and the emergence of new competition that have arisen through mergers, divestitures, and acquisitions
  • Manage disruptive changes from digitization or feedstock shifts

Chemical companies need to accelerate positive change, from fast-tracking the adoption of intelligent technology and new ways of working to pivoting quickly to evolve with changing consumer expectations while creating more engaging experiences for employees. Enterprise transformation is ever more critical to creating sustained value. The journey to a cloud-led architecture can allow companies to achieve their sustainability targets and long-term value faster.

We spoke with Kevin Jinks, managing director at EY, to learn more.

Q: When you talk to chemical customers, what excites you about the chemical industry?

A: Our clients are investing in their businesses and innovating through expanding products and solutions, as well as heavily investing in business transformation journeys. As we meet with industry clients, we see firms focusing on operational efficiencies, dealing with pricing pressures and looking for ways to change their profiles. Companies are also looking at asset optimization and customer engagement models, including touchless ordering.

What鈥檚 exciting to us is how we are engaging with clients on their business initiatives and supporting their transformations. This is exciting when you consider how these investments have been historically viewed. All of these ideas translate into large-scale programs that are enabled by technology. A prime example of this effort is , which aligns well with our clients鈥 strategies to leverage their 51风流industry capabilities, specifically 51风流S/4HANA Chemicals.

Certainly, the pandemic has impacted all industries, including chemicals. But, in some segments, we have actually seen significant business improvement through COVID-19. As the broader economy continues to recover and evolve, chemical companies will look for additional ways to do business differently and remotely and deliver business value in a more touchless fashion. We also expect to see considerable activity around dealmaking, including mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. It is an exciting time for the chemical industry, which is something I may not have said five years ago.

Looking forward, what do you see as some of the top priorities and opportunities for chemical customers?

Right now, there is a lot of discussion among industry leaders about getting back to the core capabilities and enabling business strategies. So, if you have a business unit that doesn鈥檛 align well with that company鈥檚 core function or core capabilities, the conversation turns to potential divestiture options. At the same time, companies are looking to acquire and strengthen their cores to support growth opportunities in the market. If it鈥檚 a strategy that helps the business more effectively optimize its assets, chemical companies are looking at it. EY and 51风流are well positioned to do this from a business and technology perspective.

Another priority in the industry is the notion of getting closer to customers and developing that capability of serving in a more touchless environment, which, at least in part, is being driven by capacity issues. How do you prioritize capacity that is limited? How do you find ways to increase margin in a business that is typically under price pressure? Companies are utilizing technology to answer these questions and craft a plan that maximizes their capabilities.

Chemical companies also need to recognize that the transition to the cloud is more than merely lifting and shifting assets from on-premise to the cloud. The transition requires a systematic, strategic approach to a well-designed solution that enables companies to achieve true value. EY has found success in helping clients quickly deploy 51风流on Microsoft Azure by building strategies, architecting transformations, and enabling a customized, secure, and optimized cloud solution. Finally, with a new administration in the White House, regulations in the United States will likely change, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) concerns will become key talking points as companies evaluate the future. EY has emphasized the importance of ESG in its own practices and is working to help clients do the same.

How has technology changed the way chemical companies operate?

You can find examples in the chemical industry where technology that wasn鈥檛 available even just a few years ago is now providing a great deal of benefit. For example, commodities firms are using advanced analytics and AI to predict future pricing. These findings can inform decisions about when to make a buy and when to defer until pricing gets better, and they can also be integrated into a company鈥檚 global procurement model. The savings that this is driving can be significant.

Digital technology, such as an enterprise resource planning (ERP) back-end program, is helping to bring efficiency to both the process and the model itself to help reduce costs and achieve desired fulfillment rates. There are several buckets of digital and technology that are happening in chemicals, which is quite impressive to see.

When we talk to chemical industry customers, big or small, change management is a key pillar of digital transformation. How are companies embracing these changes and equipping their teams for success?

Many of our clients underestimate the damage that can be done when change management is not done well. An expression I like to use is, 鈥淭he soft stuff is the hard stuff. The technology works.鈥 What I mean by that statement is that 51风流software 鈥 the configuration and the industry capabilities within the software 鈥 is proven. There may be some processes that require customer-specific extensions. However, a failure to get executive alignment, business buy-in, and project team commitment on the change agenda can wreak havoc, negatively impacting production, fulfillment rates, and customers.

Unfortunately, project teams often undervalue and minimize project budgets and investments, inadvertently creating substantial risk.

As we look at transformation, there is a lot of momentum in the market around industry templates that are pre-built. The idea is that if you use these templates, the process model is already built and the business will adopt it. That approach can work very well if it鈥檚 done right. However, change management is an area that actually gets harder because it requires an organization to adapt to fit what the software is already configured to do. No prebuilt solution will yield a 100% fit, and an organization鈥檚 business differentiation will not be there either. Instead, clients should be working with their service partners to focus on how their differentiated processes will work while adopting common non-differentiated ones. They should also ensure that everyone who needs to be involved in the effort has visibility into what鈥檚 happening. Take steps to ensure that industry skill and knowledge are coming to life in your solution.

Why team with EY?

We have strong business acumen and experience in performing business-driven insights and analysis that help define where companies are struggling and the experience that is needed to design future-enabled solutions. Our strengths and differentiators are our business-led, process-driven, and technology-enabled perspectives. The depth and breadth of our global scale is more than I think clients realize, since many view EY as strictly an accounting firm.

How does EY create value for the chemical industry and how can people connect with you?听

Our experience is that every client has different business priorities, value drivers, and performance and business objectives. That said, common value creation opportunities often center on supply chain planning, customer segmentation, and commodity pricing, to name a few. We start with building a business-aligned case for change that defines benefits and opportunities based on unique needs and goals.

We recently worked with a client where we quickly identified benefit areas and opportunities to capture value. Where we are looking at the potential to drive significant value, we鈥檒l engage strong industry subject-matter resources that work together with our clients to align business, process, data, and technology needs; address their issues; and help realize that value. It鈥檚 providing a complete picture of what that company can achieve and provide the vision and road map to achieve it.

As far as connecting with me, I鈥檓 a pretty active member on some of the social media portals, such as . You can also go to our or email me at kevin.jinks@ey.com.

EY and 51风流Identify and Address Disruptive Trends in the Staffing Industry /2020/11/ey-and-sap-identify-and-address-disruptive-trends-in-the-staffing-industry/ Tue, 17 Nov 2020 11:15:40 +0000 /?p=180469 The staffing industry is experiencing a period of profound change. A powerful combination of demographic shifts, technology advancements, and new competition leaves many incumbents facing a 鈥渄isrupt or be disrupted鈥 conundrum.听These industry changes have been accelerated by the global pandemic, uncertain business, and economic outlook as well as operational efficiency imperatives.

Once seen as futuristic, technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotic process automation (RPA), machine learning, chatbots, and blockchain are increasingly becoming commonplace, especially among nimble, digital-first new entrants. The emergence of the 鈥渉uman cloud鈥 may be the biggest disrupter of all. Attracting $80 billion in annual investment, according to the Staffing Industry Association, the human cloud includes digital labor and staffing platforms that eliminate the need for manual intervention in the staffing process.

The rise of managed service provider (MSP) programs is also having a direct impact on staffing firm revenue and profitability. MSPs typically manage staffing processes and systems for large corporations and interact with several vendors providing staffing services. In response, some staffing firms have developed their own managed service programs.

These are among the issues explored in a . The paper highlights how tomorrow鈥檚 staffing industry leaders will be those that embrace the transformation imperative today and develop bold and creative action plans in a few key areas.

鈥淒igital disruption comes to every industry, and staffing is no exception,鈥 said Michael Liss, vice president, Managing Principal Services Industries, SAP. 鈥淥ur view is that now is the moment to lay the foundation for future-state business models and a vision for growth. While the competitive threat from tech-driven startups is real, traditional firms can use enabling technology to build on their strong relationships and enhance their value proposition.鈥

鈥淭he future of work is taking shape today, and staffing firms have an opportunity to provide leadership and prioritize their innovation investments to drive future growth,鈥 said Michael Yadgar, Americas 51风流leader at EY. 鈥淔rom the war for talent and the rise of the human cloud to new business models and richer client and candidate experiences, there are many exciting innovation opportunities.鈥

Based on many engagements with staffing leaders, we believe the following megatrends are among the most powerful in redefining the industry:

  • Process automation: Technology innovations enable staffing firms to replace manual tasks, such as resum茅 scanning, background checks, and onboarding. While automation reduces errors and increases efficiency, it can also lay the groundwork for richer client and candidate experiences, which ultimately help build stronger relationships.
  • Digital marketplace platforms: New market entrants use these platforms to offer direct search and matching of talent. Other capabilities include candidate profiles, automated assignment matching, self-selection of assignments, availability tracking, candidate and client ratings, and automated billing and compensation.听While this model works well for commoditized positions, higher-skill roles still require high-touch service and trust-based relationships.
  • An evolving workforce: Millennials and Generation Z will represent more than 75% of the global workforce by 2025. These 鈥渄igital natives鈥 want instant communication and information access via their phones. They are also open to reskilling through online learning and training, which gives staffing agencies a chance to create talent and offer more value to both clients and candidates.

In response to these and other disruptive forces, staffing companies must prioritize a number of strategic actions and challenge their thinking by addressing a range of critical questions. The paper from EY and 51风流highlights the following three key areas of focus for firms that are ready to embark on a journey of transformation.

1. Digital Delivery Platforms and the Shifting Role of Finance and Operations

Finance and operations can no longer be a back-office or support function primarily focused on data entry and reporting. Rather, it should embrace AI and process automation so that it can evolve into the higher-value roles of听business analyst and strategic advisor. For example, sales operations and finance leaders should work to proactively identify market trends and development that can impact profitability and growth. Beyond the bottom line, insights provided by finance can help move the needle on candidate satisfaction 鈥 by better matching candidates and opportunities 鈥 and operational efficiency 鈥 by reducing the number of touches to fill positions.

  • Critical question: If 90% of data entry were automated, how could finance and sales operations add value and provide competitive advantage?

2. Innovative Business Models and Diversified Pricing Models

A hypercompetitive market requires staffing firms to differentiate their offerings and value propositions. Ideally, a staffing firm鈥檚 sales force should be able to leverage AI to design competitive pricing structures and attractive packages. Subscription models offering on-demand access to advisory and staffing service in exchange for a set fee are likely to grow. So are outcome-based and performance-driven contracts, which will complement traditional by-the-hour pricing. Analytics and modeling tools will also help firms develop such customized pricing based on the evaluation of different criteria, including the suitability of such offers to both clients and talent.

  • Critical question: Which information about candidates and clients defines the optimal pricing and compensation models?

3. Candidate Satisfaction, Client Experience, Experience Management

Staffing firms recognize the importance of experience to relationships with both candidates and clients. A quality experience pays off in the form of increased loyalty, deeper engagement, and, ultimately, more revenue for staffing firms. These benefits will only get more important as new entrants offering intuitive experiences continue to gain traction. Incumbent firms must ensure they understand what clients and candidates are looking for and then design an experience that delivers just that.

  • Critical question: How can firms deliver an amazing user experience by applying data and AI to identify client and candidate preferences and enable automatic matching?

Profound digital-driven change is disrupting the staffing industry, just as it has for other sectors in recent years. The experience of those industries confirms that the market leaders will be those firms that think the biggest and act most boldly in embracing technology, focusing on experience, and exploring new business models.

EY and 51风流Focus on the Staffing Industry

Both EY and 51风流have provided solutions to the staffing industry for many years. 51风流solutions have automated back-office processes, enabling streamlined operations and increased efficiency for the staffing industry. EY鈥檚 industry knowledge combined with its consulting, tax, and risk expertise has helped transform staffing firms to optimize their operations. EY has also transformed its own capability to drive staffing requirements for engagements in the marketplace.

With the amount of profound change that is taking place in the staffing industry, EY and 51风流together can offer complete solutions for firms facing disruption and enable them to transform into intelligent enterprises. By combining the proficiencies of 51风流solutions with machine learning, AI, and RPA, EY can help staffing firms achieve digitalization in order to transcend disruption and operate as a firm of the future.

EY, 51风流and Qualtrics Collaborate to Bring Resources to Governments Around the World to Help in the Fight Against COVID-19 /2020/04/sap-ey-and-qualtrics-collaborate-covid-19/ Thu, 09 Apr 2020 16:00:37 +0000 /?p=170351 LONDON, WALLDORF, Germany, and SALT LAKE CITY 鈥 EY, 51风流and Qualtrics today announced a collaboration to provide resources to governments around the world as they battle the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic.

These Qualtrics and 51风流听solutions will be implemented by EY teams and include tools to help governments pre-screen and route potential COVID-19 patients, support healthcare workers and manage the flow of information and resources to their citizens.

  • Custom COVID-19 solutions help governments stay connected to their citizens and employees, use data to make quick decisions and better manage the flow of information and resources

To help manage the impact of the pandemic, EY, 51风流and Qualtrics have invested in providing agencies with a comprehensive set of services and solutions to meet the initial urgent and critical needs of governments, globally. These offerings are helping organizations take immediate action in the fight against COVID-19 and are available to all 50 U.S. states and more than 90 countries worldwide. In addition, the services and solutions are provided in eight languages 鈥 English, Arabic, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, French, German and Greek 鈥 through EY implementation and enablement services. Specifically, the solutions available to governments include:

  • Qualtrics COVID-19 Pre-Screening and Routing: This online, guided pre-screening questionnaire allows citizens concerned about COVID-19 to enter their symptoms, and automatically routes them to appropriate online resources or advises them to contact their doctor. It provides instant access to relevant health and safety resources and produces automatic reports that identify any gaps in information availability.
  • Qualtrics COVID-19 Dynamic Call Center Script: Local governments are standing up call centers (often for the first time) to respond to the crisis. To reduce call volume, and provide accurate, up-to-date information to callers, this solution directs citizens to the right resources based on their interests/questions. It also includes automatic reporting showing caller trends, patterns and gaps in information requests.
  • Qualtrics Healthcare Workforce Pulse: Governments need to monitor healthcare providers and their frontline healthcare workers within healthcare systems, hospitals, pharmacies and clinics. This Healthcare Workforce Pulse is designed to capture feedback on the resources, safety, resilience and communication needs of those treating patients with the disease.
  • Critical care protocol solution: This is a customized solution for governments and ministries of health directed at early identification for critical-care/high-risk patients. This solution utilizes guidelines from the World Health Organization and the Edmonton Frailty Scale and is powered by a critical care protocol algorithm. The solution assists in early flagging of high-risk patients by sharing and analyzing results in real time, allowing for more targeted allocation of critical care services that are already in short supply.

EY, 51风流and Qualtrics released the following statement regarding these solutions: 鈥淕overnments around the world are having to act quickly and decisively as they lead their citizens through uncertain times. These solutions and services help governments quickly interact with their citizens at scale by providing a means of collecting and analyzing data in real time. This allows them to take immediate action amid an ever-changing situation and bring immense benefit to their citizens during the current crisis. We are proud to stand together to help governments use the power of experience management to navigate this difficult and unsettling situation as we all work to keep our communities and loved ones healthy and safe.鈥

Public entities around the world are rapidly deploying these solutions and seeing immediate results. In the United States, Africa, Europe and APAC, state and country governments and agencies are running health assessments for citizens, identifying testing centers for those in need and triaging screening and treatment follow-up. On a national level, countries around the world are asking what information citizens need and how they could work together to provide essential services during this worldwide pandemic.

Qualtrics technology is GDPR, HIPAA, HITRUST and FedRamp compliant 鈥 maintaining the highest levels of security and privacy protection available.
