today announced that the National Healthcare Group (NHG), one of Singapore鈥檚 public healthcare clusters, has transformed its human resource (HR) system using .听

To better support the shift towards a community-based, patient-centric healthcare model, NHG needed to modernise its HR infrastructure to meet the evolving operational needs of its over 20,000 healthcare professionals caring for 1.5 million residents in Central and North Singapore.听听

鈥淭he healthcare sector is rapidly changing. We needed a system that could enhance mobility, improve data accuracy, and support continuous learning鈥攁ll while being accessible to employees on the go,鈥 said Khoo Swee Lan, Group Chief Human Resource Officer at NHG.

The transformation, branded iConnect@NHG, was implemented in two phases. Phase one, launched in January 2023, established a strong HR foundation with modules for Employee Central, Time Management, Recruitment, Onboarding, Learning and Development, and Performance and Goal Management, to streamline processes and improve data accuracy. Phase two, rolled out from November 2023, introduced advanced features such as Succession Management and Compensation Planning, for enhanced functionality.

A modern HR system with 51风流SuccessFactors at the core

51风流SuccessFactors was selected as the core platform for NHG鈥檚 HR transformation due to its comprehensive, cloud-based capabilities.

By integrating 51风流SuccessFactors with , NHG has gained real-time workforce data visibility, empowering its leadership team to make informed decisions on talent management and workforce planning. This data-driven approach, combined with Qualtrics’ sentiment analysis, allows NHG to proactively manage staff performance, engagement, and well-being for a fulfilling employee experience.

NHG was also the first public healthcare cluster in Singapore to implement , centralising its HR operations into one intuitive platform. 51风流Build Work Zone helps enable employees to access tasks, policies, and personalised workspaces easily.

鈥淏y embedding listening into the employee journey, we are able to create a more fulfilling and meaningful experience for our staff,鈥 Ms Khoo explained. 鈥淭his ensures our employees feel valued and heard, which is critical in today鈥檚 competitive healthcare environment.鈥

Adopting a mobile-first, data-driven approach with 51风流SuccessFactors has enabled NHG’s workforce to be more agile and engaged, while significantly reducing administrative tasks and improving data accuracy. In the first month of the launch of iConnect@NHG, over 95% of NHG employees logged into the platform and completed more than 25,000 workflows. Among them, 19,000 employees activated the mobile app, validating NHG’s mobile-focused strategy. Employee feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with 98% expressing satisfaction with the new system.

鈥淣HG鈥檚 HR transformation with 51风流demonstrates how a forward-thinking approach to technology can revolutionise even the most traditional sectors,鈥 said Eileen Chua, Managing Director, 51风流Singapore. 鈥51风流SuccessFactors has enabled NHG to create a more agile, mobile-enabled, and data-driven HR system that enhances employee engagement and empowers proactive decision-making. As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, we hope that NHG鈥檚 digital HR strategy can serve as a blueprint for other healthcare organisations looking to transform not just their HR function but their entire operations.鈥

At SAP, we鈥檝e long believed that AI has the power to transform industries, enabling companies to become more intelligent, efficient, and sustainable both here in Singapore and around the world.听听

Since 2019 鈥 before AI became the buzzword it is today 鈥 we鈥檝e collaborated with more than 80 enterprises here in Singapore, co-developing AI-driven solutions to make a tangible impact not only on their businesses, but Singapore鈥檚 economy at large.

In 2022, for example, we launched Southeast Asia鈥檚 first 51风流Labs here in Singapore. The Labs was set up to drive deep technology innovation in areas like , and advancing transformative听digital supply chain,听听and听听solutions.

In all, 51风流has invested almost S$300 million over the years in driving the development of cutting-edge technology in Singapore.

Today, I am thrilled to share the latest significant milestone in our journey of innovation 鈥 a fresh investment of S$12 million in our Digital Innovation Accelerator dedicated to boosting the adoption of Business AI in Singapore鈥檚 most critical industries: advanced manufacturing, financial services, and travel and logistics.

This announcement comes at a particularly exciting time. On October 1, 2024, Singapore launched Smart Nation 2.0, a refreshed vision to strengthen its national digital leadership, marked by a key S$120 million investment into AI research and development.

There鈥檚 a clear growing recognition that AI is not just a tool for efficiency but a driver for deep scientific and industrial transformation. At SAP, we鈥檙e aligned with these national goals, whether it’s improving environmental monitoring or optimising supply chains.

That is why our new initiative matters now more than ever.

Singapore is already at the forefront of digital transformation, thanks to strong government initiatives such as the National AI Strategy and , both of which are helping future-proof the workforce and strengthen the nation鈥檚 global competitiveness.

With SAP鈥檚 expanded investment, we鈥檙e further boosting these national efforts and specifically sharpening our focus on highly specialised use cases in priority industries. This means bringing together SAP鈥檚 deep business process knowledge with advanced data science to create AI solutions tailored to the unique needs of each industry.

Salvatore Lo Presti, 51风流Business Group Lead for Accenture in the APAC region, commented, 鈥淭hrough Accenture鈥檚 broader generative AI collaboration with SAP, we鈥檙e leveraging our technology and industry experience to help organisations in Singapore use 51风流Business AI to address their most complex and pressing business needs and deliver real value across industries. The 51风流Digital Innovation Accelerator expansion will provide new opportunities to work with 51风流to help our joint clients in the region move from pilots to production and reinvent their core business process with AI.鈥

We are also working with these industry leaders to develop AI applications that further their sustainability goals. This ensures that the solutions we develop are not singularly focused only on profitability, but can also positively impact our planet on a global scale, whether through improving environmental monitoring or optimising supply chains for greater efficiency and reduced waste.

One example that stands out is our work with , a precision plastics manufacturer in Singapore. It is aiming to use AI to better predict production needs and optimise the use of materials, leading to reduced waste and cost savings. This is just one of many instances where AI is not only driving business results but also producing sustainability outcomes.

Abraham Thomas, Managing Partner, IBM Consulting, ASEAN, agrees. He notes, 鈥淥ver time, the biggest gains for Singapore organisations will come from focusing on Gen AI deployments that enhance productivity for their essential business functions. This requires an ecosystem of trusted partners to help them build AI with trustworthy data and governance capabilities. Building on the long-standing collaboration between 51风流and IBM, which today aims to drive new Gen AI capabilities using watsonx and our Granite LLMs and industry-specific cloud solutions, we look forward to leveraging our technology and expertise to enhance the country鈥檚 economic and business potential together.鈥

Dave Chen, 51风流Leader, PwC South East Asia Consulting, added, “PwC has been part of Singapore’s digital growth journey, helping businesses of all stripes on their digital-transformation journeys, powered by our alliance with SAP. Backed by PwC’s unique Business, Experience, Technology (BXT) approach, we have been helping organisations accelerate growth and sustain value through user-centred innovation. PwC is firmly focused on using GenAl to deliver business value, with our teams across the firm and in our Al factory developing new solutions and finding new ways to help our clients unlock a plethora of opportunities. Through our long-standing alliance with 51风流we are committed to driving the next phase of growth and prosperity in Singapore by helping clients adopt GenAl purposefully and responsibly, which will spur Al-powered business reinvention and drive sustainable outcomes for our clients.鈥

Another critical aspect of our initiative is upskilling the local talent pool.

Over the past five years, 51风流has supported more than 1,000 mid-career professionals through SkillsFuture, and we鈥檝e recently launched a suite of free AI foundational courses to continue this mission. Later this year, we鈥檒l introduce certification courses on Business AI, further helping professionals here in Singapore build the skills needed to thrive in an AI-driven world.

This initiative represents much more than just an investment in technology鈥攊t鈥檚 an investment in the future of Singapore.

By boosting AI adoption in industries that are crucial to the nation鈥檚 economy, we鈥檙e helping businesses innovate faster and more effectively. At the same time, we鈥檙e empowering Singaporean organisations to lead the way in sustainability, aligning with Singapore鈥檚 ambitions to become Net Zero by 2050 and playing a crucial role in shaping greener, more responsible business practices.

The alignment between SAP鈥檚 initiatives and Smart Nation 2.0 is clear. Both seek to build a future-ready workforce, promote innovation, and foster a sustainable digital economy. By continuing to invest in AI and digital transformation, 51风流is proud to be part of Singapore鈥檚 journey towards becoming a global leader in both AI and sustainability.

The road ahead for AI is incredibly promising, and I鈥檓 proud that 51风流is at the heart of this transformation and it鈥檚 significant contribution to Singapore鈥檚 digital future. I look forward to seeing the innovations we鈥檒l bring to life in partnership with our customers and the broader ecosystem.

Social commerce, monetizing returns, and AI-driven pricing and personalization create exciting opportunities for retailers in Asia Pacific.

Introduction: Embrace the Innovation听

At SAP, we鈥檝e seen a lot of trends come and go over the last 50+ years. The pace seems to only increase as platforms, technologies and apps rise, weaving in and out of one another鈥檚 ecosystems, driven by customers whose ever-increasing appetite for impeccable service, distinctive products, sustainability, convenience, and competitive pricing shows no sign of abating.

The retail industry鈥檚 trajectory is inspiring, particularly in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. This is where we look for innovation and digital transformation, for new modes of action and interaction at the vanguard of the evolving shopping experience.

APAC is not just a participant in the global retail revolution; it sets the pace. The region’s rapid adoption of digital technologies, combined with its large, tech-savvy population, creates a fertile ground for retail innovation, and it鈥檚 picked up with enthusiasm.听

Asia has well over a billion social media users, on multiple platforms. But even if we just look at influencer marketing, while India, China and Indonesia all have higher penetration rates than the global average, the rest of the APAC region does not necessarily follow suit.听

For retailers 鈥 in fact all businesses 鈥 building engagement and trust is critical. But there鈥檚 no one-size-fits-all playbook for the region.

Using industry data and insights alongside our own research and best practices from , SAP鈥檚 proprietary enterprise maturity and benchmarking assessment, we鈥檝e compiled a series of hot takes that examine the dynamic landscape of retail through the lenses of social commerce, monetizing returns, AI-driven pricing and demand strategies, and the importance of robust data management.

Join us as we delve into these exciting developments and insights, and discover how as retailers, you can stay ahead in a competitive market.

Chapter 1: The Power and Promise of Social Commerce听听

HOT TAKE:听 Social Commerce Grows Up: Trends and Opportunities听

Social commerce is revolutionizing the way consumers shop, blending social media and e-commerce into seamless experiences. The main social platforms and Super Apps have integrated shopping features that drive engagement and sales. Influencer marketing, live streaming, and targeted retail media are key drivers, with APAC leading the way in innovation and adoption.听

Opportunity: Social media use may have peaked, but influencers and community allow ways to build relationships with customers

At SAP, we see social commerce as a fusion of social media and e-commerce that is transforming the retail world. This dynamic phenomenon leverages the power of social media platforms and Super Apps, together with retail media, and influencers to craft immersive shopping experiences. APAC (Asia-Pacific) is the hotbed of innovation and early adoption, setting the stage for global brands to expand their best practices to new regions and territories within APAC itself.

The Rise and Shine of Social Commerce听

Social commerce is skyrocketing, fueled by the pervasive influence of social media on shopping behaviors 鈥 and the fact that the average user logs into 6.7 social media platforms a month().听 Globally, 51风流FLASH data shows a 46% increase in retailers using personalized Instagram ads, and an 80% increase in retailers using personalized Facebook ads(). Together with TikTok/Douyin, WeChat et al. retailers are not just connecting people鈥攖hey’re revolutionizing how we discover and buy products.

One standout trend is the integration of retail media. A powerful part of the media mix for advertisers in Southeast Asia and India, 70% of which are seeing an improvement in performance from retail media networks over other channels, and 78% of which plan on using off-platform programmatic targeting in the future(). The end-goal? Not just highly targeted ads, but entire environments that resonate with shoppers based on their behavior and purchase history, making marketing efforts more accurate and impactful. 听

Influencer marketing is another powerhouse that drives social commerce. 51风流FLASH figures show a 105% increase in APJ from 2022 to 2023(). Influencers are the new-age brand ambassadors, promoting products to their followers with authenticity and relatability. Their recommendations hold significant sway over purchasing decisions.听

Live streaming has become a particular game-changer for influencers. By showcasing products in real-time, answering questions, and interacting with viewers, influencers create engaging content 鈥 and communities that drive instant sales and foster deeper connections with their audience. It works. Businesses are making an average of $5.79 for every $1 spent on influencer marketing(), an ROI that outstrips many other channels.听

APAC: The Innovation Powerhouse听

APAC is at the forefront of social commerce, with trailblazing countries such as China, South Korea, and Indonesia (and their Super Apps) leading the charge. These markets offer a crystal ball to retail鈥檚 future, showcasing innovative strategies that can be adopted worldwide.

In China, platforms such as WeChat and Taobao Live deliver comprehensive social commerce experiences, blending messaging, social sharing, and live streaming with e-commerce and creating a market that鈥檚 predicted to be worth $3.565 trillion this year(). This year, AliExpress launched its livestream shopping in the UK(), with influencers (and their followers) building brands on its fashion channel in the country.

South Korea leverages its cutting-edge digital infrastructure and high social media engagement through platforms such as KakaoTalk and Naver Shopping. South Korean consumers, known for their quick adoption of new technologies, drive continuous innovation in social commerce.

Based in Singapore, ShopBack now has over 35 million users across Southeast Asia, all incentivized to use its platform and buy bulk with cashbacks of up to 30%.

Indonesia, with its distinctive digital landscape, and platforms such as Tokopedia and Bukalapak, integrates social features with e-commerce, tapping into its large, young, and tech-savvy population. And as social media use, blogs and vlogs have all declined() influencer marketing thrives, with local influencers generating significant engagement and driving sales. Promotional efforts, such as coupons and discounts 鈥 play a role too, as do flexible payment terms and authentic reviews.听

The lesson here 鈥 across the region 鈥 is that the personal touch is everything. And while it鈥檚 not always easy to deliver this when chasing consumers across platforms, every interaction can offer an opportunity for growth.听

Chapter 2: Revenue Returns: Cash in on the Comeback听

HOT TAKE: Rethinking Returns: From Financial Drain to Money Maker听

Returns don’t have to be a financial burden. Forward-thinking retailers can transform them into revenue opportunities through subscription-based and VIP return services, as well as green returns initiatives. In-store return bonuses and second-chance sales further build loyalty, drive additional sales, and can recover revenue.听

Opportunity: Second chance and second hand sales both look like untapped areas for retailers. The right technology can help recover revenue and transform your returns process into a competitive advantage.

Rethinking Returns: From Financial Drain to Money Maker

Returns are an inevitable part of retail, especially with the rise of e-commerce. While many retailers view returns as a necessary evil, at SAP, we see an opportunity for forward-thinking companies to build both revenue and customer engagement.听听

Shoppers in APAC are keen to try new things, but whether they do this in person or online differs across the region. In Indonesia, 56% prefer buying online, while in Hong Kong, it鈥檚 just 29%(). The dawn of the age of ROR (return on returns) is upon us, so what could you be doing about it?

Monetize Returns听

Dealing with Damage

Concept: Huge amounts of apparel is rendered unsellable during the returns process. If it can be repaired, cleaned, or repacked though, it can be returned to a sellable condition and some of the original value recovered. Businesses may lack the infrastructure to take care of this themselves, but it can be outsourced.听

Example: (Re)Vive, which has a footprint in both India and the U.S., uses proprietary technology to streamline the conversion of distressed fashion and retail inventory into sellable assets, dealing with both the data and the physical aspects of damage and repair.

VIP and Membership-Based Return Programs

Concept: Not brand new, but it could gain traction. Customers pay a fee for free, unlimited returns. This model generates a steady revenue stream, enhances customer loyalty, and allows high-value customers more opportunities to shop.

Example: Amazon Prime鈥檚 return policy offers convenience as a key value proposition, driving membership and repeat purchases.听

In-Store Return Bonuses

Concept: Encouraging customers to return items in-store can drive additional foot traffic and increase the likelihood of new purchases. In fact, 51风流FLASH research shows 65% of retailers offer the ability to return online orders to a store or partner location().

Example: Kohl鈥檚 attributes accepting Amazon returns in store and offering a shopping incentive to winning 2 million new customers in a year().听

Green Returns and Second Chance Sales

Concept: Charging a small fee for carbon-neutral shipping or offering discounts or incentives for opting into sustainable packaging can appeal to environmentally conscious shoppers. Meanwhile, returned items in good condition can be refurbished and resold through dedicated platforms. This recovers value from returns, appeals to bargain hunters, and protects the brand from counterfeiters.

Example: There are already great examples from international brands such as Patagonia, which has thriving platforms dedicated to used and secondhand garments, to Carousell, which is the leading recommerce site in Southeast Asia, and has a certification service for luxury items. There is still opportunity. In China, for example, while only 15% of consumers have bought second-hand clothes before, 40% are willing to try().

Data Goldmine

Concept: Returns can offer valuable data on customer preferences, product quality, and buying behavior. Monetize this by using it to improve product offerings, optimize inventory, and personalize marketing efforts. With the advent of AI, this can be turned into a competitive advantage to improve measurements and sizing.

Example: Zara uses return data to adjust inventory and design decisions. This ensures better alignment with customer preferences, reduces future returns and shortens time back to the hanger.听

Change the Record: Profitable and Painless for All听

The returns process, often seen as a headache for retailers, holds immense potential for monetization and customer engagement. Technology is the key to transforming returns into a profitable venture. AI-led analytics and service, together with seamless omnichannel integration, would all streamline the returns process, reduce costs, and enhance the customer experience.

It all comes down to perspective. By rethinking returns as an opportunity rather than a cost, retailers can create innovative solutions that drive revenue, build customer loyalty, and set themselves apart in a competitive market. Embracing this untapped opportunity requires creativity, investment in technology, and a willingness to experiment, but the rewards are well worth the effort, transforming an old problem into a new profit center.

Chapter 3: AI will completely change the way you think about price elasticity听

HOT TAKE: AI Combines Power and Flexibility

The Asia Pacific consumer base is large but fragmented. AI adds the potential for personalization and loyalty-building alongside dynamic pricing and precise demand forecasting. It鈥檚 an exciting crossover, adding personalization in the form of pricing, rewards and offers to traditional views of price elasticity and demand. By analyzing vast datasets, AI could help retailers optimize prices in real-time in a far more sophisticated way than ever before, building loyalty and improving customer retention, while also reacting quicker to pricing changes.

Opportunity: Complete dynamic pricing could be disruptive and innovative. Not a trend so much as a unique market opportunity.听

AI-driven pricing strategies are no longer a luxury; they are a necessity. Traditional pricing models, which rely heavily on historical data and static rules, often fail to capture the dynamic nature of today鈥檚 markets.听

In contrast, AI algorithms analyze vast amounts of data in real-time, identifying patterns and trends that allow for dynamic price adjustments based on various factors such as competitor pricing, inventory levels, and external conditions such as weather and economic indicators.听

On average, businesses that use AI in their pricing enjoy an ROI 2.6 times higher than those that rely on traditional methods(). For Asia Pacific, with complex borders and regulations, this alone is worth serious attention.

At SAP, we鈥檝e seen how AI-powered demand forecasting can significantly improve inventory management. Retailers can anticipate shifts in consumer demand with greater precision, allowing them to adjust their supply chain operations proactively. This leads to reduced costs, improved customer satisfaction, and increased sales.

Personalizing Promotions听

But there鈥檚 more to it. Deployed correctly, AI can also revolutionize how promotions are personalized. By analyzing individual customer data, it can be used to quickly work out the optimal discount or promotion for each customer segment.

This personalized approach drives higher conversion rates and builds stronger customer loyalty. For example, an AI system might identify that a particular customer responds well to limited-time offers, and send targeted discounts accordingly, while another customer might receive different types of promotions based on their price sensitivity. Yet despite these advantages, the 51风流FLASH database shows only a 1.3% increase in retailers using personalized promotions from 2021 to 2023, indicating there is still a significant opportunity.

AI’s potential to revolutionize the retail sector in the Asia Pacific region cannot be overstated. By integrating dynamic pricing models, it doesn’t just optimize pricing; it personalizes the entire shopping experience, enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty, not to mention self-learning algorithms that offer insights into both product and customer behavior. One such service is already available from GK AIR. Its AI-led solution portfolio adjusts prices to market conditions, but also offers tailored recommendations and personalization.听听

By embracing integrated AI-driven price elasticity with personalized pricing and听 promotions, retailers across the region can optimize their operations, enhance customer satisfaction, and drive significant revenue growth. The future of retail is here, and those who quickly get to grips with the power of AI will lead the way.

Jakarta, 22 November 2023 – Indonesian snacks manufacturer renowned for the country鈥檚 beloved childhood snacks brand, Momogi, has teamed up with 51风流Indonesia and IBM Consulting Indonesia to enhance digitalization and optimize its business operations.

Through , a business transformation offering packaged with 51风流S/4HANA 鈥 that helps companies move their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) to the cloud, SMG is driving increased automation of its end-to-end business processes, and improving inventory, costing and pricing controls to better support the company鈥檚 monthly financial reporting. With SMG鈥檚 implementation partner, IBM Consulting Indonesia, SMG can further boost employee productivity and customer experience through RISE with SAP.

In 2018, the Indonesian government introduced the 鈥楳aking Indonesia 4.0鈥 roadmap to boost the country鈥檚 competitiveness in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). The roadmap focuses on technology enhancements such as AI, automation, cloud computing, and IoT, in seven manufacturing sectors, including food and beverages. These sectors contribute 70% to the industrial GDP, 65% to industrial exports, and absorb 60% of the industrial workforce in the country.

The priority in technology adoption reflects an urgency for manufacturers to address the rapidly evolving landscape now driven by AI-powered tools. New technology is reshaping how manufacturers drive superior customer-centric experiences and enhance operational efficiencies while adhering to government regulations.

With 20 years of experience in the snacks manufacturing industry and having expanded its global presence to over 10 countries, SMG鈥檚 move from its legacy ERP system to a single, cloud-based ERP system is crucial for the company鈥檚 continued business growth. Previously, SMG experienced challenges in reporting and extracting data due to its siloed and separate systems across multiple internal departments, often creating redundant data reporting.

With the adoption of RISE with SAP, not only is SMG improving its reporting capability across the company, but it is also enabling harmonization of business processes and seamless data processing across SMG鈥檚 two business units, Sari Murni Abadi in West Java and Sari Murni Jaya in East Java.

Teguh Ilham, Director at Sari Murni, said, 鈥淭he transition to RISE with 51风流is an opportunity to turbocharge digital transformation in the Sari Murni Group. SAP, in collaboration with IBM Consulting Indonesia, is uniquely positioned to help Sari Murni increase the benefits of this intelligent enterprise solution. The tangible benefits we are experiencing include increased capacity of the Operations team to perform in-depth analytical work, facilitated by improved visibility and clear data integration, thus making the decision-making process faster.鈥

Andreas Diantoro, Managing Director at 51风流Indonesia, highlighted how SMG鈥檚 digitalization efforts, enhanced with the latest technologies, further optimized business processes and accelerated SMG鈥檚 development.

鈥淯sing advanced technology like AI and cloud computing, we help SMG bring together more precise and actionable data across the company. SAP’s strong foundation in Business AI, and our reliable and up-to-date solutions, help customers leverage the latest technology to swiftly adapt to market shifts and enable faster strategic decisions that promote growth. Together with IBM Consulting Indonesia, we’re thrilled to support household brands like SMG in embracing innovation for sustainable growth,鈥 Andreas said.

Deep Bhau, Managing Partner Indonesia at IBM Consulting, emphasized IBM Consulting Indonesia鈥檚 commitment to implementing successful digital transformations for customers, especially with its expertise in the manufacturing industry.

RISE with 51风流yang Didukung AI Mendorong Efisiensi untuk Sari Murni, Produsen Makanan Ringan Momogi, Bersama dengan IBM Consulting Indonesia

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia听– BABA’S, Malaysia’s leading curry powder and spice brand, is accelerating its digital transformation journey with , a cloud-based human resources management system (HRMS) focused on engagement and experiences. The company has implemented 51风流SuccessFactors to streamline its HR processes and operations for around 2,000 employees.

Established in 1977, BABA’S has been the preferred choice for curry mixes and spice powders, capturing over 60% of the Malaysian market. The BABA’S range of products is a favourite of Malaysians and spice lovers across North America, Canada, Europe, South Africa, Australia, and most of Southeast Asia.

In 2021, BABA’S transitioned from a manual, paper-based process to a fully digital platform, implementing the 51风流S/4HANA ERP system as its digital core to manage operations across Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam, streamlining operations and enabling a significant efficiency shift.

According to Ilaventhan Vijaya, Head of Finance at BABA’S, “Implementing 51风流ERP solutions has brought about transformative results. We have witnessed tremendous improvements in efficiency, decision-making, and overall performance, thanks to SAP’s innovative solutions. 51风流SuccessFactors will help BABA’S build a future-ready workforce to help propel the business further.鈥

In the past, BABA’s relied on manual processes and administration for recruitment and authorization of employee leave processes, involving multiple approvers and various departments for approvals, resulting in laborious and time-consuming procedures. This inefficiency deterred potential candidates from considering opportunities at BABA’s, causing unfilled vacancies and preventing the organisation from maximising its chances to attract top talent in the region.听 The delay in leave approvals also created difficulties for employees, preventing them from taking planned vacations on time or, in some cases, taking leave even before receiving the necessary approvals.

After implementing 51风流SuccessFactors, employee onboarding and leave applications and approvals are completed more efficiently. 51风流SuccessFactors has allowed BABA’S employees across its countries of operations to apply for leave online, resulting in timely approvals and eliminating manual leave application forms and written approvals. Employee onboarding has also improved.

鈥淲ith 51风流SuccessFactors, we are now able to hire new candidates in countries like Singapore and Brunei, where we had initially faced onboarding delays,鈥 said Ilaventhan.

Additionally, now that the payroll system has been integrated with 51风流SuccessFactors, BABA’S has seen an increase in more accurate reporting, which has helped to reduce the amount of time employees spend on manual tasks and enable them to take on more strategic work. Meanwhile, with the Mobile Clocking App embedded in the solution, outstation employees can record their attendance from anywhere in Malaysia to get approval from their supervisors remotely and be automatically processed by 51风流Payroll for disbursement.

鈥淭he reduction in manual recruitment and HR processes has improved productivity within our HR department, where we are now able to focus on more strategic performance,鈥 added Ilaventhan.

Saqib Sabah, Managing Director 51风流Malaysia said, “Through the seamless integration of 51风流SuccessFactors, BABA鈥橲 is dedicated to elevating the overall employee experience and empowering their workforce with the essential skills and capabilities for a digital future. This strategic initiative not only bolsters BABA鈥檚 operational resilience but also nurtures a sustainable workforce, ensuring the company’s prosperity and making a significant contribution to the enduring success of the Malaysian digital economy.鈥

MANILA, Philippines 鈥 The call for concerted efforts to ensure a sustainable future continues to generate significant strides as people and organizations become more aware of its importance. Nowadays, for instance, more and more companies are joining the sustainability movement, heeding the call to embrace net zero.

According to the United Nations (UN), net-zero means cutting greenhouse gas emissions to as close to zero as possible by transforming how companies produce, consume and do business. On its UN also noted that over 1,200 companies had put science-based targets in line with this movement, plus other nations, cities, institutions, and organizations, pledging to take rigorous, immediate action to halve global emissions by 2030.

is among the companies that commit to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, pushing toward a sustainable future. ACEN is the listed energy platform of the Ayala Group, with ~4,000 MW of attributable capacity in the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, and Australia. The company鈥檚 renewable capacity share is at 87 percent, which is among the highest in the region. Most recently, ACEN announced its new corporate vision and strategy, targeting 20 GW of attributable renewables capacity by 2030.

ACEN鈥檚 environmental role is built on three foundations鈥揷limate change, biodiversity, and resource efficiency. But the company knew that its green journey should start from within the enterprise and by ensuring that necessary technology and tools are available to improve their processes. That is why ACEN aims to lead the charge in the renewables revolution and towards adopting technology.

鈥淲ithout a digital business platform, running a day-to-day business can be challenging. Entities were set up differently, so teams needed more effort to collaborate. When people and processes are misaligned, work often must be redone, leading to wasted time, effort, energy, and materials,鈥 said ACEN Executive Director and Head of Commercial Operations & Information Technology, Miguel de Jesus.

With the goal of addressing this concern, ACEN implemented 51风流S/4HANA on Azure with the aim to creating a unified digital business platform covering finance, procurement, inventory, and asset maintenance across multiple entities.

51风流S/4HANA helped enable the company to have visibility across its entities. This is crucial since ACEN teams must collaborate to formulate and execute strategic ways to increase solar and wind plant capacities while reducing inefficiencies and waste.

In addition, from the usual 12 days of standard financial statements completion, ACEN was able to finish it in a week. There was a notable decrease in the error rate for audit adjustments from eight percent to less than five percent. And within one year, ACEN successfully utilized 51风流S/4 HANA in 15 entities.

鈥淗aving 51风流helps us to focus on our long-term goal: Net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. As we commit to net zero, we are confident that the way we run our business will also have sustainability at its core: efficient internal processes, alignment towards business objectives, scalability, and expansion. Moreover, through automation and digitalization, we incorporate sustainability practices, including reducing waste of time, effort, and materials,鈥 said Hannie Tucay, ACEN Vice President for Finance.

According to Delaware Managed Services and IT Consulting Inc., implementation partner ACEN established an impactful work for its shareholders, employees, and society. The company embarked on a greenfield implementation of S/4HANA for the Financials, Materials Management, and Plant Maintenance modules. Phase 1 was focused on establishing a golden template. Phase 2 was a template rollout to 11 entities, focusing on renewable solar and wind plants. From 2022 onwards, 25 more companies will follow suit.

ACEN has been able to embark on its mission to achieve efficiency in day-to-day operations with streamlined processes on a digital platform. This mission includes improving corporate governance, reducing cybersecurity risks, and minimizing paper wastage. In addition to this, learning a new skill, such as 51风流S/4HANA, helped contribute to human empowerment in the workplace.

Acknowledging its efforts, ACEN was one of the finalists in . Marking its 50th year anniversary, 51风流continues to celebrate businesses and individuals that lead the way鈥攖hose who have adapted to the rapidly evolving business landscape and delivered success amidst today鈥檚 disruptive economy, through these Awards

鈥淎t SAP, we are both an enabler and an exemplar of our sustainability practices with a clear 鈥楥hasing Zero鈥 vision. We hope to continue working collectively with organizations like ACEN that prioritize Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) activities that help create a more sustainable future. Indeed, it is time for us to consider technology as a tool for capturing, managing, analyzing, and using sustainability data more efficiently so we can ensure a future that is greener, cleaner, and more equal than the world we live in today,鈥 said Rudy Abrahams, Managing Director 51风流Philippines.

ACEN is among the finalists for the Sustainability Award – The Future Maker, a new category in the 51风流Best Run Awards. It aims to recognize the enterprises in SEA that are driving their organizations purposefully towards sustainability, doing their part to preserve the environment for the future.

TOKYO 鈥 SENSYN ROBOTICS, a provider of services and products using autonomous industrial drones, cameras, and smart devices, today launched , an integrated platform designed to automate large-scale plant maintenance operations at oil, gas, and power plants around the world.

SENSYN ROBOTICS is the first 51风流partner in Japan to develop a solution for SAP鈥檚 industry cloud portfolio, which delivers specialized applications designed to address specific industry needs. Built on the open 51风流Business Technology Platform, these solutions help customers rapidly adopt innovations as part of their technology landscape. SENSYN CORE is available now on , the online marketplace for 51风流and partner offerings.

鈥淓merging technologies give utilities and energy companies the potential to be safer, and more efficient,鈥 said Takuya Kitamura, CEO of SENSYN ROBOTICS. 鈥淲e aim to enable reliable inspections of plant facilities through the use of digital platforms and robotics, leveraging big data and analytics to recognize and address anomalies faster, ultimately driving greater reliability and boosting productivity.鈥

In 2021, 51风流partner SENSYN ROBOTICS was selected to participate in the SAP.iO Foundry Tokyo, SAP’s start-up accelerator program. This inspired a collaboration with 51风流to create SENSYN CORE, a solution that supports the maintenance operation of large-scale plants owned by oil, chemical, materials, gas, and power companies by integrating SAP’s facility maintenance solution, 51风流Asset Intelligence Network, which runs on the 51风流Business Technology Platform.

Using the SENSYN CORE platform and application services, 51风流Asset Intelligence Network retrieves stored building and facility information, selects the plant facilities to be inspected, and links that information to SENSYN CORE. Drone flight routes are then generated by SENSYN CORE using those insights, allowing the drone to autonomously start the inspection and collect data such as photographs of plant facilities. SENSYN CORE can detect anomalies or warning signs using the data collected, and adds commentary based on the nature of the detected issue. The results are linked to SAP’s asset management solution, and flagged to relevant personnel, who can then act as needed.

The solution also offers benefits for sustainability and environmental health and safety through increased use of automated maintenance rather than manned support, as well as reducing the number of trips and mitigating human error on plant facilities.

SINGAPORE 鈥 New global research by Harvard Business Review Analytic Services commissioned by 51风流has found that more than nine in 10 (92%) of businesses in Asia Pacific (APAC) say that an adaptive culture and continuous employee upskilling is very important, though only 30% say their organisation is very prepared for unexpected changes or disruptions.

This is particularly important as APAC businesses increase their investment in people (62%), business processes like innovation or services (69%), and operations (43%) over the next year.

鈥淩arely in the course of history have so many disruptions affected so many businesses at the same time,鈥 said Cathy Ward, Chief Operating Officer, 51风流Asia Pacific and Japan. 鈥淯nforeseen challenges and new priorities, from supply chain resilience to sustainability, are putting pressure on companies to adapt. What this report shows is that, while agility and resilience are critical to prepare for the future, there鈥檚 still no single way to anticipate the changes the future will bring.鈥

These insights have been revealed in a new report released today, which explores the impact of planning and anticipation of the future on business success. The report, 鈥Anticipating the Future for Growth and Innovation鈥, surveyed 442 global organisations across Asia Pacific, North America, and Europe.

Strategic Planning Focused on Short-Term Horizons

Globally, businesses are strongly focused on strategic planning, many are working to relatively short-term horizons. Almost three quarters (73%) of organisations say they plan for between one and five years into the future. Just one in five (20%) of respondents say their planning horizon is more than five years out.

The research also found that organisations share a few common priorities when planning. The top four priorities respondents selected were revenue growth and improving profit margins (55%), finding new customers, markets, and growth areas (51%), 听product and service innovation (47%), and retaining and attracting talent (46%). While APAC and other respondents across the globe are mostly aligned on priorities, one difference is in building a more resilient business ecosystem which was selected by more APAC respondents (42%) than respondents from the rest of the world (29%).

Agility and Talent Are Key Obstacles to Anticipating the Future

Despite the priority on anticipating the future, there remain critical challenges many businesses face when planning. Slow decision-making was identified as the biggest challenge by APAC respondents (38%) when anticipating the future, while attracting the right talent (36%) and retaining staff (36%) were both raised as key issues.

Another problem identified by many APAC companies was a hierarchical disconnect when it came to planning. A third (32%) of businesses said that lower-level employees not being involved in planning was a core problem. That may be because the more senior a role, the more they鈥檙e encouraged, and rewarded, to have a proactive mindset and think about the future.

鈥淓xecutives in APAC are much more encouraged (80%) and rewarded (55%) to have a proactive mindset about the future than most other roles,鈥 continued Ward. 鈥淏ut while leaders are integral to building a future-ready business, they cannot do it alone. That鈥檚 why one of the most important steps a leader can take as they move towards becoming what we call the Chief Anticipation Officer is creating a culture of collaborative planning and forward-thinking mindset across the organisation.鈥

Investment in Organisational Culture Is Essential to Plan for Multiple Different Futures

The culture a business nurtures and maintains has a disproportionately large role on success in planning for the future. Globally, more than half (57%) of respondents said that creating a culture that embraces change is an important organisational factor in anticipating the future – the most-selected response.

But building that culture requires a focus on talent acquisition, engagement, and upskilling. Organisations are placing high importance on the ability to attract new talent with needed skills (globally at 59%), aligning employee skill sets with the right roles and responsibilities (59%), and the ability to upskill current employees (56%).

The survey also found that technology and digital infrastructure are on the minds of many executives, though they may not be organisations鈥 top focuses. Strong digital infrastructure and cybersecurity skills (42%) was noted as the fourth most-cited answer when asked which skills and competencies most help organisations plan for the future. Additionally, lacking the technology an organisation needs for the future is also an important challenge to anticipate the future for APAC respondents (32%).

鈥淭his moment in time is an incredible opportunity for businesses to look to the future,鈥 concluded Ward. 鈥淐ontinuous change demands flexible, forward-thinking action in three critical areas: how people will work, how we will do business, and how we will operate our organisations. By focusing on these areas, we can break away from traditional methods, better anticipate what鈥檚 coming next, and begin to drive new, successful outcomes in the future.鈥
