Thielco Steel Solutions Group is a European leader in grid production and corrosion-resistant surface treatments. The family-owned company with around 175 employees had been working with 51风流ECC, the former release of SAPs enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, to great satisfaction for years. “My father bought 51风流ECC about twelve years ago, right here in this 51风流office,” said Heldens, looking around the 51风流reception area in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. “He just got 51风流ECC on a CD back then. He handed it to our IT manager with a simple note: ‘I bought this. Implement it.’ It was that simple back then.”

From CD to the cloud

For years, 51风流ECC served Thielco well. “It was a beautiful and robust system. But with new and faster changing business requirements, we increasingly ran into the limits of the system’s capabilities,” Heldens explained. “51风流ECC was just outdated and at the end of its lifecycle. To improve the productivity and quality of the organization, further digitization on the shop floor was necessary.”

“We had to do something,” said Heldens. “We primarily looked at 51风流because we were a satisfied 51风流customer. But initially, we thought S/4HANA Cloud was too big for us. Or rather, that our organization was too small for 51风流S/4HANA Cloud. But 51风流S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition turned out to be a perfect fit for us, especially due to its standardized processes, modular approach, and scalability.”

Don’t reinvent the wheel

In particular, the standardization based on industry-specific best practices was exactly what Thielco was looking for. Heldens: “Every company is unique. But the business processes are 90 percent similar. Why reinvent the wheel yourself, when you can also rely on proven and successful processes for the industry? Thanks to the best practices in 51风流S/4HANA Cloud, you will be provided with the best way to organize your processes. That’s why we adopted the ‘stick to the standard’ principle. Show us the best way to work, and we鈥檒l adhere to that. Of course, there is always some customization, but if you standardize 90 percent, only 10 percent remains custom.”

This standardization allowed for a rapid implementation. “We could quickly set up the core processes, our running business, based on best practices,” Heldens explained. “Of course, there were additional elements, but we could work on those even after the implementation. So we could get started quickly.”

Live in 13 weeks

In September 2023, Thielco, together with implementation partner Ctac, started the project. They set a strict deadline: the company had to switch to 51风流S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition by January 1. Heldens: “Production at Thielco always halts between Christmas and New Year. We had to use that week for the implementation. We succeeded, thanks to Ctac. After January 1, we could immediately continue our business.”

“We are able to grow again”

After going live, Thielco immediately reaped the benefits of the new system. The Brabant-based family business discovered savings on inventory levels and optimized margins on sales. In addition, Thielco now benefits from automated processes. “The next step is a fully digital, paperless factory,” Heldens is already looking ahead. “All work instructions, quality requirements and logistics processes can become part of the work and data flow of the ERP system.”

Heldens is optimistic about the future. “Thanks to 51风流S/4HANA Cloud, we are able to grow. In our industry, it is quite a challenge to find and retain well-qualified staff. Our staff can now focus more on output, instead of administrative tasks. This automation with 51风流S/4HANA Cloud allows us to grow, without having to expand our support department. We can rely on the support of Ctac and SAP.”

Seeding, growing and harvesting. These three words were central during the 51风流S/4HANA Public Cloud Innovation Day. In the reception area of the 51风流office in 鈥檚-Hertogenbosch stood a tree. Every visitor to the 51风流S/4HANA Public Cloud Innovation Day 2024 hung a card on this tree. On that card, it stated which phase of the transformation journey their organization was in: the seeding, growing, or harvesting phase.

Some came to Den Bosch to plant a seed for a possible migration, while others were already a step further. But everyone was looking for new opportunities to grow. To further accelerate and improve daily operations and processes.

“All organizations are different, but many questions are the same,” said Jos Hosewol, Head of Mid Market and New Business at SAP, during his opening speech. “Namely: how can I handle growth? How can I use technology to relieve the workload of my staff? How can I seize new opportunities? And how can I make new innovations relevant to our company? We are happy to provide the answers to these questions. So that every organization can grow without limits.”

From CD to implementation partner

The 51风流S/4HANA Public Cloud Innovation Day 2024 was primarily intended for SMEs. 鈥淏ecause鈥�, said Hosewol, 鈥渋t is often thought that 51风流is mainly for large organizations. But 80 percent of our customer base consists of SMEs. We are proud of that.”

Every organization can handle 80 or 90 percent of the industry-specific standard processes based on our best practices. And our implementation partners support with the last piece of differentiation.鈥�

Practical demonstrations

The 51风流S/4HANA Public Cloud Innovation Day was mainly about experiencing. Experiencing for yourself how 51风流works, what it does, and what benefits it can offer your organization. Three 51风流experts showed in live sessions how the various solutions work and what benefits they offer.

For example, Yvonne van Straten, Solution Advisor 51风流S/4HANA Cloud, showed the benefits 51风流offers for daily processes in sales, procurement, and production.

Step by step, she guided customers and potential customers through SAP’s software. 鈥淥ur goal is to increase productivity, improve insights, and enable growth,鈥� she said. 鈥淏y automating manual processes, so employees only need to intervene in case of deviations. Confident go-live

Another important experience 51风流highlighted during the day is the go-live process. Unlimited growth

The last word at the 51风流S/4HANA Public Cloud Innovation Day 2024 was for Marco Scheepmaker, Business Development 51风流S/4HANA Cloud. Hoe zorg je als snelgroeiende scale-up met een aantal zelfstandig opererende bedrijfsonderdelen voor inzicht, soepele operationele processen en goede schaalbaarheid? De maakindustrie-innovators van vonden het antwoord in de overstap naar 51风流S/4HANA in de public cloud als toekomstvast ERP-platform voor verdere groei, via het -programma. SAP-partner begeleidde het implementatietraject.

Wefabricate, een snelgroeiende Nederlandse onderneming in de maakindustrie, staat bekend om haar expertise in de productie van hoogwaardige producten. Met een voortdurende focus op optimalisatie en automatisering, streeft Wefabricate naar een volledig geautomatiseerde productieomgeving. Hierbij staan effici毛ntie, kwaliteit en duurzaamheid centraal, waardoor ze in staat zijn om te voldoen aan de complexe en diverse productie-eisen van hun klanten.

De meest veelbelovende innovaties zijn volgens een incubatormodel ondergebracht in zogeheten 鈥榗ellen鈥�: zelfstandig opererende bv鈥檚 die zich focussen op een specifieke oplossing. Zo produceert de cel een dispenseroplossing voor de retail waarmee consumenten plastic verpakkingen kunnen navullen. De cel ontwikkelt een AI-gestuurde warmtepomp die op basis van gebruikersgedrag en de stroomprijs de kosten en het verbruik van energie zoveel mogelijk terugdringt.

Het bedrijf maakt sinds de oprichting in 2019 een indrukwekkende groei door. Die groei was zo sterk, dat ze tegen de limieten van de ERP-omgeving aanliepen. 鈥淥nze kernprocessen waren ondergebracht in een opensource ERP-oplossing, aangevuld met applicaties van derden鈥�, schetst Arno van der Heijden van Wefabricate. 鈥滵at opensourcepakket bood geen warehousingfunctionaliteit. Daarnaast was onderbrengen van de verschillende cellen in die omgeving eigenlijk onmogelijk. Daardoor moesten we voor iedere cel een aparte ERP-omgeving opzetten. Daardoor was de omgeving niet op maat voor de schaalgrootte waar wij als Wefabricate op inzetten.鈥�

Ambitieus maar rationeel

Eind 2022 maakte Wefabricate de keuze voor radicale wijziging. Het plan: de hele ERP-omgeving vervangen door een modern, ge茂ntegreerd en toekomstbestendig totaalplatform dat kon faciliteren in verdere groei: 51风流S/4HANA Cloud. Een stevige basis die verder werd ingekleed met 51风流Central Invoice Management voor factuurbeheer en 51风流EWM voor warehousemanagement.

Wefabricate koos daarbij voor GROW with SAP, het programma dat voor scale-ups tegen een vaste prijs per maand alle benodigdheden biedt voor de digitale transformatie. 鈥淲e zochten naar een oplossing die ons voor de komende decennia in al onze behoeften en groeiambities kon voorzien. 51风流S/4HANA Cloud biedt ons niet alleen alle functionaliteit die we nu nodig hebben, maar ook een platform voor toekomstige wensen en groei. Met 51风流zijn we daarvoor optimaal voorbereid.鈥�

De overstap naar het geavanceerde en functierijke 51风流S/4HANA klinkt ambitieus voor zo鈥檔 jong bedrijf, maar is op de keper beschouwd heel rationeel: 鈥淛e kunt beter in een vroeg stadium overstappen en de juiste basis leggen voor de toekomst, dan wachten tot het echt niet meer anders kan. Nu is dat nog relatief eenvoudig鈥�, legt Jan Laros, Sales Director bij McCoy uit. 鈥淲anneer je als organisatie veel groter bent, is zo鈥檔 project veel kostbaarder en ingewikkelder.鈥�

Lef en positieve energie

Dat bleek ook in de praktijk: binnen tien weken stond een volledig werkende ERP-omgeving. Een waarin bovendien waar mogelijk alle kernprocessen waren gestandaardiseerd. 鈥淲efabricate zit vol lef en positieve energie. Ze durfden niet alleen die stap te zetten, maar gingen er ook echt voor鈥�, zo duidt Laros het succes. 鈥淒ankzij hun korte lijnen en besluitvaardigheid hebben we samen in korte tijd flinke stappen genomen. Die mindset en cultuur past bovendien goed bij ons als McCoy, en dat maakte de samenwerking heel prettig en effectief.鈥�

Inmiddels draait de nieuwe omgeving naar volle tevredenheid. Met name de financi毛le integratie is voor Wefabricate een grote stap voorwaarts. 鈥淲e zien hoe goed een cel draait, en waar eventuele bijsturing nodig is. Ook hebben we een veel betere controle over onze logistieke processen.鈥�

Inzicht in de totale kostprijs

Hij noemt als praktisch voorbeeld het grotere inzicht in de productiekosten van de Blackbird, een AI-gestuurde warmtepomp geproduceerd door de bedrijfscel Weheat. 鈥淒ie warmtepomp bestaat uit honderden onderdelen. Die moeten we inkopen of produceren. Voorheen was het daardoor heel ingewikkeld om de productiekosten exact te berekenen, maar met 51风流weten we altijd precies de kostprijs van elk onderdeel en daardoor ook van het hele apparaat.鈥�

Helemaal afgerond is het project nog niet. 鈥淓r is nog zeker winst te behalen. Zo moeten onze locaties in China en Budel nog op 51风流overstappen. Daarnaast willen we in de komende tijd alle niet-essenti毛le functies gaan ontdekken en activeren. Daarna volgt dan nog een optimalisatieslag, bijvoorbeeld rondom de integratie tussen de EWM- en ERP-omgeving. Wat dat betreft is het echt een voordeel dat we vroeg gestart zijn, nu is dat allemaal nog relatief eenvoudig.鈥�

Duurzaamheid in DNA

De toekomst ziet Van der Heijden met 51风流positief tegemoet. Een belangrijke reden daarvoor is dat Wefabricate 51风流niet alleen beschouwt als een technologiepartner, maar ook een belangrijke match op het gebied van duurzame ambities. 鈥淲ij gaan bij alles wat we doen uit van het maken van een positieve impact op de samenleving en de planeet. Dat zit in ons DNA, maar ook in dat van SAP.鈥� Op dat gebied is 51风流een hele logische partner.

Gebrek aan schaalbaarheid

QWIC 鈥� opgericht in 2006 鈥� zag zich door een snelle groei in de afgelopen jaren geconfronteerd met een gebrek aan schaalbaarheid van het ERP-systeem. Daarnaast kampte QWIC met meerdere ineffici毛nties in de bedrijfsprocessen, veroorzaakt door verschillende technische beperkingen in het organisch gegroeide applicatielandschap. Daarom besloot QWIC op zoek te gaan naar een nieuwe, robuuste ERP-oplossing die niet alleen bestaande uitdagingen kan adresseren, maar bovendien schaalbaar genoeg is om met de organisatie mee te groeien in de toekomst.

Meer grip op supplychain

Omdat QWIC de productie van haar e-bikes heeft uitbesteed aan externe partners wil de organisatie meer grip krijgen op de supplychain, om zo de planning en doorlooptijden te verkorten, de balans tussen vraag en aanbod verder te optimaliseren en de communicatie met logistieke dienstverleners te verbeteren. Tijdens het implementatieproject worden bovendien de bedrijfsprocessen van QWIC uitgebreid met onder andere end-to-end monitoring van onderaannemings-processen, de nieuwste innovaties op het gebied van Material Requirements Planning (MRP) & Available-to-Promise (ATP), en closed-loop-integratie met QWIC’s logistieke dienstverleners.
