This March 8, as we mark International Women’s Day, we embrace this year鈥檚 powerful theme: Give to Gain. It鈥檚 a call to action rooted in a simple but profound truth – when we give our support, time, and experience with generosity, we create a ripple effect of opportunity that lifts everyone. This mindset of collaboration and reciprocity is the cornerstone of a truly inclusive culture, where the advancement of women strengthens our entire community.

At 51风流Canada, this mindset is a core part of our culture. To explore what Give to Gain means in practice, we spoke with some of our senior women leaders. They shared their experiences, lessons learned, and advice, painting a powerful picture of advocacy, mentorship, and collective success.

Finding Your Voice and Taking Your Seat

A common thread in the journeys of many women in technology is the experience of being one of the few, or only, women in the room. This was a formative challenge for leaders like Victoria DeBoon, Vice President, 51风流Canada, who started her career in the male-dominated financial world. She recalls her ideas being dismissed, only to be validated when presented by male peers. This taught her the crucial lesson, if you don鈥檛 assert yourself, no one will do it for you.

For Victoria this realization created a driving force to empower others alongside her. She became deeply committed to helping women bridge the confidence gap she saw repeating around her.听鈥淲e as women often feel we need to check every box at 150 percent before taking a risk, while our counterparts will often raise their hand at 60-70 percent. We must empower more women to do the same, because that鈥檚 how we truly grow and learn.鈥

Cathy Tough, Country Manager, 51风流Canada, shares a similar story of finding her place. 鈥淚 started in the utilities industry. I was often the only woman in the room,鈥 she remembers. 鈥淚 am a thinker, so often I would sit quietly at the back of the room.鈥 It wasn’t until a customer mistook her quiet reflection for a lack of confidence that she made a conscious choice, 鈥淚 sat at the front of the room and assumed my place.鈥

These moments of self-advocacy are critical, but as our leaders attest, they are often learned through hard-won experience.

The Power of Advocacy and Recognition

There鈥檚 a point in every career when doing good work isn鈥檛 the missing piece, stepping up is. Christine Vukusic,听Head of Strategy and Operations, 51风流Labs Canada, learned this early in her career when she was overlooked for a role, simply because her manager didn鈥檛 know she was interested. This experience reframed her understanding of career growth. 鈥淭hat moment was revolutionary. I realized advocacy and clear communication with your manager matter as much as doing good work. It wasn鈥檛 about being boastful or loud. It was about being clear.鈥 That moment informed how she advocates for the next generation of women in tech. 鈥淚鈥檝e learned not to mistake silence for contentment, and to create space for new voices early and not after the fact.鈥

Advocating for others, recognizing their contributions and highlighting their potential is one of the most powerful ways to foster a Give to Gain culture. As Cindy Fagen, Managing Director, 51风流Labs Canada, notes, this not only helps individuals but strengthens the entire organization. 听When we actively advance women, the whole organization gets stronger. The research clearly shows that companies with more women in leadership outperform on profitability and long-term value creation. Diverse teams make better decisions and innovate faster to build better products, and that momentum lifts everyone. It shapes the culture, too.鈥

Paying It Forward: The Ultimate Gain

The spirit of generosity is most powerfully expressed through mentorship and paying it forward. Michelle Zorn, Industry Account Executive, 51风流Canada, has built her career on the principle of being the change she wants to see, from rising in the ranks of the tech industry to coaching girls鈥 hockey to show them what鈥檚 possible. For Michelle, success is measured by the success of those she helps lift. Her philosophy is not one of transactions, but of continuous forward momentum. 鈥淲hen people I鈥檝e helped ask what they can do for me, I tell them I don鈥檛 believe in pay back, I only believe in pay forward. Remember to help somebody else, because all of us at one time or another will need a hand. If you want to do something for me, look for all the ways you can be in service to other people.鈥

This sentiment is echoed by Sonia Daigle, Vice President, 51风流Canada, who carries with her a defining piece of advice from one of her first mentors. It has become a guiding principle in her own journey of lifting others. 鈥淥ne of my first mentors told me, 鈥楳y star only rises when I鈥檓 lifting others into the light.鈥 I believe every interaction is an opportunity to grow and to help others. I鈥檝e learned just as much from a mentee as I have from a CEO coach.鈥

Building the Environment for Success

Individual acts of generosity thrive within a culture that intentionally makes space for them. Creating an environment of psychological safety, where every voice is heard, collaboration is the default, and everyone feels they belong, is a leader鈥檚 most important role. It is in this environment that the cycle of Give to Gain can truly flourish.

鈥淚t is absolutely important to intentionally create a team environment where generosity and collaboration are the norm, not the exception. We’re better together. We lift each other up and we pay it forward,鈥 shared Cathy Tough.

As we look to the future, the hope is that the next generation of women entering technology will find more open doors and fewer barriers. The insights from our leaders show us the way:

Find your voice, advocate for yourself and others, and embrace the transformative power of paying it forward.

This International Women’s Day, let鈥檚 all commit to the Give to Gain mindset. Whether it鈥檚 by mentoring a junior colleague, amplifying a teammate鈥檚 idea, or simply telling someone you appreciate their work, every act of generosity builds a stronger, more inclusive world for us all.

Happy International Women’s Day from all of us at 51风流Canada.

At , our purpose to help the world run better and improve people鈥檚 lives extends far beyond technology. It鈥檚 about building meaningful relationships and fostering a culture of respect and inclusion in the communities where we live and work. As part of our ongoing reconciliation journey, we are honoured to turn the spotlight on Indigenous art and culture within our own walls.

Through a partnership with Art Rental & Sales operated by the and acclaimed Indigenous artist , we are proud to welcome two of Hugh Kearney鈥檚 original artworks into our Vancouver office, creating a space for learning, connection, and dialogue.

A Canvas for Conversation and Inclusion

This initiative is a reflection of a core belief at 51风流that inclusion is fundamental to who we are. We thrive on diverse perspectives and are committed to creating spaces where everyone can bring their authentic selves to work.

To celebrate the installation of his work, Hugh Kearney led an engaging interactive session, sharing the deep cultural inspiration and personal stories behind the two selected pieces. It was a powerful opportunity for our team to hear directly from the artist, ask questions, and deepen their understanding of the cultural influences woven into his art.

Hugh Kearney鈥檚 mixed-media practice bridges traditional landscape inspiration with contemporary form and cultural inheritance. Influenced by his Maliseet heritage, urban artistic traditions, and modernist references, Kearney鈥檚 work is a vibrant celebration of colour, rhythm, and cultural memory.

His artistic process involves layering plant-fibre shapes onto canvas, creating dynamic abstract compositions where form and colour connect deeply with viewers. Pill-shaped and cross-hatched elements in his work are direct references to Maliseet weaving traditions, grounding his art in a rich cultural lineage and lived experience.

The Selected Works: On Display at 51风流Vancouver

This wasn’t just about choosing art, it was a collective expression of our team’s commitment to supporting Indigenous creativity and fostering cultural conversation within our workplace. To bring this belief to life, we invited our Vancouver-based employees to be part of the process and ask them to vote on the pieces we would display.

The two pieces chosen by our employees, Parcel and Christmas Victoria, will be on display throughout the year.

In Parcel, a BC landscape painting is superimposed with abstract shapes and vibrant colour. Kearney channels the German Romantic landscape painter Caspar David Friedrich, eliciting a powerful emotional response to the natural world.

Christmas Victoria features a scene from Victoria, BC, where a landscape painting is playfully collaged with magazine cut-outs and abstract daubs of paint, creating a dynamic and colourful composition.

More Than Just Art

鈥淭his initiative supports Indigenous artists like Hugh Kearney, and reaffirms our commitment to cultural inclusion, creativity, and meaningful engagement,鈥 said听Cindy Fagen, Managing Director, 51风流Labs Canada. 鈥淲e are听honoured听to have his work in our space as we continue our journey toward building a workplace and a community rooted in respect, diversity, and shared humanity.鈥

By creating space for Indigenous voices, stories, and living cultural practices, we鈥檙e taking meaningful steps toward understanding, reconciliation, and ensuring our workplace reflects the diverse communities on whose lands we live and work. Their presence does more than just enhance our office environment, they serve as a daily catalyst for deeper conversation, cultural awareness, and ongoing learning.

]]>
Every so often, a conversation stops you in your tracks. It makes you pause, reflect, and see the world – your work, your personal relationships, your colleagues, your community – through a new lens. I had one of those conversations with

What started as a discussion with our 51风流Canada team about business transformation and technology quickly evolved into something much more profound. Rex shared his perspective with a level of honesty and wisdom that has stuck with me. He talked about navigating professional challenges and shared a masterclass in navigating life’s most demanding circumstances.

Perseverance isn鈥檛 a grand gesture, it鈥檚 a daily practice of building momentum

We often imagine perseverance as a single, monumental effort. Rex described it differently. He framed it as the quiet, consistent practice of putting one foot in front of the other to build momentum, especially when a project is long and complex. He noted that during challenging times, it’s the collective energy of a team and a shared sense of purpose that carries everyone forward. It鈥檚 a powerful reminder that our greatest achievements aren鈥檛 won in a single sprint. They are the result of a marathon of consistent, focused steps, each one building on the last.

Positivity is a tool to move you forward, not a feeling

Rex鈥檚 perspective on positivity during demanding circumstances was transformative. He didn鈥檛 frame it as feeling happy or ignoring difficulty. Instead, it is a conscious choice鈥攁 strategic tool for creating a path forward. As a board member for , Rex shared the power of providing a critical dose of hope, what he called “medicine for the soul.” Make-A-Wish creates positive experiences for their recipients to look forward to, a North Star to focus on. Focusing on what is possible, rather than dwelling on obstacles, isn’t naive. It鈥檚 a powerful strategy for building resilience and actively shaping a positive outcome.

Break rules with purpose and challenge the status quo

Rex鈥檚 career is a testament to the power of curiosity and a willingness to challenge established norms. He shared a story from his first job where he was put in a cubicle surrounded by old PCs. Instead of just accepting it, he took them apart, built a server, and created a file-sharing network鈥攕omething he wasn’t supposed to do. His reasoning was simple: the old way no longer served the best outcome. He said, “If all you ever do is always follow the rules, you will always be average.” This is the heart of innovation. It鈥檚 about challenging assumptions, not out of defiance, but with a genuine desire to discover a better path.

The future is about questioning the answers

When I asked for his advice for our team, Rex鈥檚 closing thought was the most powerful of all. He said, “It’s no longer about answering questions. It is all about questioning answers.”

In an age where AI can provide answers instantly, our true value lies in our ability to think critically, to challenge the output, to connect disparate dots, and to ask, “What’s next? What are we missing?”

Rex reinforced that our work is not just about technology; it’s about people. It鈥檚 about improving lives, fostering resilience, and having the integrity to do what feels right, even when it鈥檚 hard.

His perspective was a powerful call to action. Let鈥檚 keep these lessons in mind as we continue our mission to help the world run better and improve people’s lives. And always be thinking about what answer we need to start questioning to ensure we continue to drive the success of our businesses and our personal and professional goals.

In today鈥檚 business environment, change is constant. Transformation is no longer an occasional event, it鈥檚 a daily reality. Markets shift, technology accelerates, and strategies evolve overnight. While agility and innovation dominate the conversation, one critical enabler of sustained performance often receives less attention: mental health.

Burnout, disengagement, and emotional fatigue don鈥檛 just affect individuals, they ripple across teams, undermining collaboration, decision-making, and ultimately, business results. Mental health is not an abstract risk; it is a tangible driver of organizational resilience.

For many leaders, including at 51风流Canada, it has become a top priority. A global commitment to health and wellness, paired with regional recognition of its importance, has enabled us to strengthen our programs and expand access to the tools employees need. Our focus now is on making that support more practical and everyday鈥攈elping people manage challenges early, before they escalate into crises.

Our partnership with the is one example. Together, we鈥檙e offering accessible training that supports both urgent response and proactive care. From mental health first aid to simple check-in tools, the goal is to equip employees and leaders to navigate the full spectrum of mental well-being, and to normalize conversations that, for too long, were considered taboo in the workplace. Just as important, this work goes hand-in-hand with building community. When people feel connected to their colleagues, leaders, and shared purpose, they are more likely to reach out, support one another, and know they鈥檙e not alone. That sense of belonging strengthens both individual well-being and team resilience.

This is about embedding resilience into culture as part of how the business operates, not as a one-off initiative. A healthy workforce is both a moral responsibility and a strategic advantage. Employees who feel supported are better able to adapt, solve problems, and deliver for customers. Protecting mental health protects performance.

It also requires reframing how we think about it. Mental health is not a binary switch from fine to unwell. Like physical health, it exists on a continuum. Just as a mild cold differs from a serious illness, a passing low mood differs from a persistent challenge. In both cases, early attention can prevent escalation.

Normalizing this reality, giving people the language to discuss it, and equipping leaders to respond with empathy are the foundations of psychologically safe workplaces. These are the cultures where people can show up authentically, contribute fully, and thrive. It means creating an environment where saying 鈥淚鈥檓 not okay鈥 is met not with bias, judgement, or concern for career impact, but with understanding, empathy, and support.

This is not a problem to be solved with a single program. It is ongoing work鈥攔equiring sustained attention and collective responsibility. If we want organizations to perform at their best, we must first ensure their people can do the same.

If you want to understand how big change begins, look to the places where partnerships have deep roots. In North America, businesses, communities, and changemakers are reimagining what growth looks like, with purpose at the center.

Our 2024 51风流Corporate Social Responsibility () eBook – – captures this momentum. It brings together stories from across the globe, including powerful examples from North America and Canada, where connection fuels transformation and ecosystems 鈥 not isolated initiatives 鈥 drive lasting impact.

At SAP, we believe real change begins with deep connection: between companies and communities, between bold ideas and practical infrastructure, and between those willing to take risks and those who benefit from them. That鈥檚 the thread which runs through our initiatives.

Championing Social Procurement as a Driver of Change

With over , alongside billions in private sector procurement, this collective purchasing power holds the potential to advance social and environmental progress. Through SAP鈥檚 social procurement initiatives, we are helping build a movement which redirects purchasing power towards businesses prioritizing people and planet over profit, creating a positive change across Canada and beyond.

Globally, this approach has opened access to a $500 billion opportunity for social enterprises. In Canada, 51风流supports , which in 2024 celebrated a decade of impact with the release of a national guide for social enterprises – a resource to help them start, sustain, and scale their efforts.

By shifting supply chains to prioritize impact, businesses can help build a more resilient and inclusive economy.

Rethinking Procurement for a Better World

What if every business decision could make a difference? That鈥檚 one idea being discussed by our CPO Think Tanks – a global initiative uniting Chief Procurement Officers and supported by SAP. From Johannesburg to Ottawa, social enterprises, sustainable suppliers, and industry procurement leaders gathered to reimagine the role of procurement. These sessions offered pragmatic ways for businesses to rethink sourcing as a tool for resilience, community support, employee and customer engagement, and long-term value creation.

It鈥檚 a simple but powerful shift: procurement can drive impact.

Immersive Learning with Purpose: The Skill Immersion Lab

Launched in 2021 in partnership with , the Skill Immersion Lab continues to reimagine how technology can empower educators and young people across the United States. In 2024, 51风流and JFF focused on scaling their impact, deepening engagement with educators, and surfacing real-world stories of growth and transformation.

One of the year鈥檚 key milestones was the launch of the , a dynamic digital platform highlighting more than 550 stories from students and educators across four years. These insights, centered around emotional growth, co-creation, and the shifting role of educators, are shaping how immersive learning is adopted at scale.

Expanding Impact Through Partnership: 51风流and NPower Canada

Additionally, through a new partnership launched in 2024, 51风流is supporting NPower Canada in its mission to seekers access digital skills training and meaningful employment. By enabling NPower鈥檚 core programs and alumni services, 51风流is contributing to a more inclusive and resilient workforce.

One of the many lives impacted is that of Ehiwe Idehen. Diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and adjusting to a new start in Ottawa, Ehiwe joined NPower鈥檚 Junior IT Analyst program in 2023 during an incredibly challenging time. With access to mentorship, certifications, and professional development, he found a path forward. Today, he鈥檚 in remission and thriving as a Scrum Master and Technical Project Manager at ADGA Group Consultants.

What鈥檚 clear to us at 51风流is that impact doesn鈥檛 scale through vision alone, but through ecosystems, standards that build trust, and partnerships that unlock lasting value. has unveiled its 2025 list of , and 51风流Canada is proudly among the honorees. This recognition is a clear signal that SAP鈥檚 deep-rooted sustainability commitments for our customers and ourselves, as well as our transformative approach to responsible business are resonating where it matters most.

A Meaningful Milestone

The Corporate Citizen ranking, drawn from nearly 350 major Canadian corporations, considers both the percentage of sustainable investments and revenues and a series of 23 detailed performance metrics. SAP鈥檚 inclusion is an indicator that the company is not only investing in the right areas but also yielding results that contribute meaningfully to a sustainable economy.

According to Corporate Knights, top performers like 51风流are catalyzing a national shift that saw economy-wide sustainable investments grow by 97 percent between 2019 and 2023.

SAP’s sustainability strategy runs deeper than surface-level initiatives. At the heart of our success is a multi-pronged, science-backed commitment to achieve net-zero emissions across our entire value chain by 2030. At 51风流we aren鈥檛 just checking boxes, we are actively reshaping our operations, products, and partnerships to ensure real impact.

Among our commitments, we are operating all SAP-owned data centers with 100 percent renewable electricity, enhancing sustainable event practices including eliminating single-use plastics and promoting locally sourced catering, and supporting a circular economy by designing systems that reduce waste and regenerate natural systems

Helping Others Be Better, Too

This includes ensuring the use of renewable electricity or emissions reductions in partner hyperscaler data centers that support 51风流solutions.

Being named among the Top 10 International Corporate Citizens is a badge of honour, but for 51风流Canada, it鈥檚 also a reminder of the responsibility it carries. From green data centers to transparent ESG reporting, 51风流is proving that with ambition, innovation, and a willingness to do things differently, business can be a force for climate action, economic resilience, and social good.

The conversation around work is changing. We’re no longer just talking about work-life balance, we’re talking about how to manage the pressure. How do we stay grounded in a world that keeps moving faster? How do we maintain our focus when personal and professional responsibilities constantly overlap?

For most people, managing stress isn鈥檛 a nice-to-have鈥攊t鈥檚 survival.

Balancing work and life perfectly isn鈥檛 realistic. What people need is genuine support that is practical, not performative.听That鈥檚 why being named one of matters to us at 51风流Canada. This signals something we鈥檝e been working toward: creating an environment where people can do meaningful work without having to sideline the rest of their lives.

Life Doesn鈥檛 Wait for a Calendar Invite

We all know what it鈥檚 like – life intervenes at inconvenient times: a sick child, a parent鈥檚 doctor appointment, an unexpected crisis. These moments don鈥檛 check your calendar, and they don鈥檛 care about deadlines.

I鈥檝e watched colleagues go back to school, manage caregiving responsibilities, recover from illness鈥攁nd they were predominantly met with understanding, not skepticism.

I鈥檝e personally taken three maternity leaves during my time at SAP, and each time, I was supported, not just by policy, but by people. I found the culture made space for both stepping away and easing back.

Supporting someone isn鈥檛 just about giving them time off, it鈥檚 about ensuring that time doesn鈥檛 come with the added anxiety about what鈥檚 waiting for them when they return.

We Don鈥檛 Always Nail It

We鈥檙e not perfect. We鈥檙e still learning. What matters is that we listen carefully, adjust, and try to show up in meaningful ways. Sometimes that looks like offering flexible working hours, sometimes it means helping someone pivot, and sometimes, it鈥檚 simply offering those additional supports.

Support Means Different Things to Different People

Family-friendly is often shorthand for parenting, but it鈥檚 broader than that. It鈥檚 about making room for people to deal with whatever is going on in their lives鈥攔aising kids, supporting a partner, caring for aging parents, or just protecting their own mental health.

We鈥檝e learned that when people feel safe being honest about what they need, they鈥檙e better equipped to manage pressure and contribute meaningfully.

Why It Matters

Being named one of Canada鈥檚 Top Family-Friendly Employers doesn鈥檛 mean we鈥檝e figured it all out. It means we鈥檙e serious about trying.

We want to build a workplace where people feel supported, not stretched thin. Where it鈥檚 okay to have a tough week, ask for help, take a breather鈥攁nd still be seen as a valuable contributor.

Plans are being made for this long weekend. Whether gathering with loved ones, enjoying family traditions, or preparing meals, this time of the year is about recognizing all there is to be thankful for and finding ways to give back to those in need. It鈥檚 a harsh reality that this season one in eight households in Canada will go without access to a warm meal and experience food insecurity.

#SAPCanadaCares by Fighting Food Insecurity 听

Teams across Canada have long treasured the opportunity to play a hands-on role in SAP鈥檚 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy through volunteering. In 2024, 51风流Canada employees from coast-to-coast have already volunteered 722 hours with causes that are directly impacting our communities. From toy drives to park clean-ups and supporting local shelters, 51风流employees in Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto, Waterloo, and Montreal take pride in making a difference in their communities.

鈥淓very day, I have the privilege of witnessing the impact our employees have on our communities through volunteering,鈥 said Kate Booth, CSR Director 51风流North America & Latin America. 鈥淲hether it’s through hands-on service or utilizing their professional skills, our employees are instrumental in driving the positive change that we are focused on achieving as a company.鈥

Out of those hours volunteered in Canada, 300+ were driven by 51风流Labs Canada employees who set their sights on fighting food insecurity by volunteering at neighbouring nonprofits throughout the year.

Canadians visited food banks almost 2 million times last year, which is a 32 percent increase over the previous year. The demand for help at organizations focused on food insecurity is exceedingly high. The response from 51风流Labs Canada employees has been inspiring, with 21 events where we actively forged partnerships with local organizations. 51风流Labs Canada has proudly partnered with in Montreal, in Waterloo, and , , and in Vancouver.

To further combat food insecurity, 51风流Labs Waterloo organized a Thanksgiving Funds Drive with all donations going to the . One incredibly generous employee even pledged to match donations up to $2,500.

鈥淚鈥檓 grateful for all opportunities to give back to my community,鈥 said Roxy Robles, Data Analyst BDC&I P&A Quality & Ops Deployment, 51风流Labs Canada. 鈥淰olunteering with my colleagues at a local organization was fulfilling and helped me see how even the smallest of tasks leads to meaningful impact.鈥

The benefits of giving back are plentiful. Employees are experiencing a sense of community in and out of the workplace, as well as seeing the impact they bring when they work together. The opportunity to make life a little brighter for those facing adversity is just one more reason to be thankful this season and a reminder of the impact we can make together as 51风流employees.

鈥淥ur teams have embraced the challenge to become changemakers in our neighborhoods,鈥 said Cindy Fagen, Managing Director, 51风流Labs Canada. 鈥淥ur strength lies in our people鈥攐ur employees who show up together to bring their time, energy, and hearts to causes that matter.鈥

Strong employee engagement needs to be driven by the entire company 鈥 top down and bottom up. At 51风流Canada we prioritize employee culture and empower our employee engagement teams to inspire their peers.

With the return of nice weather and more individuals returning to the office, 51风流Canada’s Green Teams and Wellness Teams have joined forces to create a campaign aimed at motivating employees to find more sustainable ways to commute and enhance their overall wellness. The goal was not only to raise awareness about the benefits of sustainable transportation, but also to collectively achieve a significant milestone as a team.

The employee-driven Strides for Sustainability challenge encouraged individuals to walk, bike or blade to work, and if that wasn鈥檛 feasible, to simply add more steps to their daily routine and track them. The goal was to collectively complete one journey across Canada, the equivalent of 4,830,000 combined steps (steps and steps converted from biking or blading) or approximately 3,682km, within a month. This challenge not only promoted sustainable transportation options and physical activity, but also aligns with SAP’s Pledge to Flex and sustainability commitments, challenging employees to take it to a new level. It is no wonder why 51风流Canada has been named one of by Canada鈥檚 Top 100 Employers again in 2024.

鈥淲e succeed as a company when our teams work in unison towards a common goal. These goals need to be balanced between business objectives and employee engagement,鈥 said Cindy Fagen, Managing Director, 51风流Canada Labs. 鈥淚t is inspiring to watch our employee engagement groups empower their peers and create these wonderful challenges to get the entire country activated, which ultimately impact their health and our environment.鈥

After four weeks, the results were outstanding, with 110 employees, from five locations actively participating and completing a total of 30,180,067 combined steps, equivalent to 23,003km. As a group, they far surpassed their initial goal, completing 6.25 journeys across Canada. The success of the Strides for Sustainability campaign not only demonstrates the commitment of 51风流Canada’s employees to sustainability and wellness, but also sets an inspiring example for other organizations to prioritize sustainable transportation options.

鈥淥ur vision for the Strides for Sustainability challenge was to encourage people to find creative, low-carbon ways to commute to the office,鈥 said Anik Roy, Green Team lead, 51风流Canada Labs Montreal. 鈥淲e were thrilled with the response we received from our colleagues across the country and hope the spirit of the challenge continues to grow throughout the year with everyone embracing healthy, environmentally friendly commutes.鈥

This June, during , 51风流is taking the opportunity to reflect on the importance of learning about the rich history, heritage, resilience and diversity of the First Nations, Inuit and M茅tis people that inhabited this land well before Canada was founded.

51风流Canada鈥檚 Indigenous Ally Network and the Reconciliation Steering Committee have been committed to the helping our employees reflect upon Canada鈥檚 rich history and the informed future we must carve out to be in better relations with Indigenous Peoples and their communities here in Canada.听When 51风流Canada began the journey, we wanted to ensure our strategy was comprehensive, culturally informed and effective, all while taking action on to create a corporate ethos that embraces Indigenous worldviews, culture and thought leadership.

We are proud of the progress our team is making and the recognitions we have received. Among our initiatives, we honour Indigenous Peoples Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with educational programming and events including Indigenous guest speakers who can share their insights and perspectives directly with our team. We also honour the Day of Recognition for MMIWG2S, also referred to as Red Dress or ReDress Day. And this year we participated in the , distributing over 600 pins to raise awareness for abused Indigenous women and children.

鈥51风流Canada鈥檚 commitment to Indigenous reconciliation goes beyond educating our people,鈥 said Zahi Maalouf, Head of Diversity & Inclusion, 51风流Canada. 鈥淥ur teams want to reach into our communities to make a real impact and continue paving the future of our awareness and reconciliation journey.鈥

To extend training and upskilling opportunities to Indigenous people within the communities we already serve, 51风流Canada partnered with PLATO. This partnership will create training and employment opportunities within the Indigenous technology workforce.

Our Pro Bono for Economic Equity (PBEE) program is also continuing to support Indigenous-owned businesses in partnership with our Corporate Social Responsibility partner . PBEE is part of SAP’s continued support of the social justice movement. 51风流employee participants leverage their skills as pro bono consultants to help address systemic and business challenges. Ninety-five percent of entrepreneurs that have participated in this program have said they feel more prepared to address future challenges for their organization, including Nuez Acres and Chims Motel.

Every pecan is sustainably farmed and is a natural water-free alternative, showcasing the business’ commitment to sustainability. Anthony Wingham, Founder & CEO, Nuez Acres said,听鈥淲e鈥檝e worked with companies in the past that were more interested in 鈥榗hecking a box鈥 with Indigenous businesses. Working with SAP, they turned a light switch on for us, addressing some of the challenges we have been facing. We felt the 51风流team really cared and were invested in our success and made an immediate impact on our business, showing savings right away.鈥

The owners of Chims Motel are offering a unique experience through Indigenous-designed guest house accommodations. 鈥淏uilding an online presence is understandably challenging and I could not have done it without the help of the 51风流PBEE team. We are continuing to feel the benefits of the new reservation management system booking system and website enhancements the team introduced. We now have a more equitable chance to compete in this market,鈥 said Naomi Nicholson, Co-Owner, Chims Motel.

SAP鈥檚 vision is to help the world run better and improve people鈥檚 lives. We do this for our customers and strive to bring this to our broader communities as well. If you are an Indigenous business owner and are interested in the program, please express your interest .

1998 was the year Google was founded, Windows 98 launched, Apple introduced iMac, the FDA approved Viagra, Bill Clinton was impeached, an ice storm swept through Montreal, and Celine Dion enchanted romantics around the world with her #1 Billboard hit My Heart Will Go On. It is also the year 51风流Canada opened its first office in Canada, choosing Montreal to establish its Canadian footprint.

Fast forward a quarter century and 51风流Labs Canada is driving world-class innovation right here in Montreal alongside five other offices across Canada. This growth comes as a welcome result of years of continuous investment in our people, our customers, and our cutting-edge innovation. Quebec鈥檚 financial incentives for businesses make it a no-brainer for 51风流to continue to invest in this city, this office, these people and our vision. For 25 years, 51风流has made the strategic decision to grow our presence in this market. This has allowed us to define a unique culture for our people that emulates the diversity of this wonderful city.

Diversity

With its vibrant arts, music, and food scene, the city of Montreal provides an appealing quality of life. It is also an attractive city for doing business. Situated near peer cities like New York and Boston, this bilingual city boasts access to top talent through premier higher education institutions and a dynamic tech ecosystem.

This culturally rich community attracts people, businesses, and scholars from around the world who bring their diverse perspectives and backgrounds to the city鈥檚 fabric, which is a major value match with SAP. Diversity and inclusion have long been part of SAP鈥檚 DNA. As a recognized employer of choice, we pride ourselves on embracing and celebrating our differences.

As we grew our team, we evolved our office. Our current office has been held as a global standard for what the workplace of the future should represent. Purpose built for flexibility, inclusion and innovation, our office leverages data and employee feedback to ensure we are responding to what today鈥檚 workforce requires including a balance of collaborative workspaces, quiet areas, individual workplaces, creative areas, and personal areas such as a prayer room.

Innovation

Over 25 years, we鈥檝e fortified our original investment by focusing on what it means to meet the needs of our customers in development, support, and delivery. 51风流Labs Montreal鈥檚 innovation focus has grown over the past two decades. Our Montreal team, which is currently 61 percent developers, has long been established as a hub for commerce and retail. Today we see an end-to-end story, with teams innovating in spaces like Customer Experience (CX), cloud support, and Integrated Business Planning (IBP) for Supply Chain, building for every touchpoint of a modern commerce environment for customers. Our largest teams in Montreal fall under CX and support, but our IBP team is growing quickly. They are focused on delivering a cloud-based solution that seamlessly integrates for critical business functions such as sales, operations, forecasting and inventory planning for customers.

51风流Labs Montreal embraces every aspect of what makes 51风流great 鈥 brilliant innovators, customer success and service teams, and all the businesspeople in-between that help us turn our new ideas into real products. We see a true collaborative process in place for solving our customer鈥檚 most pressing business problems 鈥 from development to delivery.

Our People

At the core of our success and growth over the past 25 years is our people. We have grown to over 1,000 people locally. We create a culture in everything we do that celebrates collaboration, individual contributions, and excitement. We recognize everyone鈥檚 values and empower them to take part in those values that are most important to them whether it be sustainability, wellness, community partnerships, giving, etc. It鈥檚 not only what our people need to be productive and innovative, but to build the right amount of flexibility for their lives in and out of work. We see the value in taking care of our people and nurturing their growth and opportunities.

The Secret Sauce

It is not uncommon for a company to celebrate a 25th anniversary, but what is spectacular is how we continue to re-invest into this market and team to ensure we are always innovating and remain relevant and prominent 25 year later. It is easy for a business to get comfortable, but that isn鈥檛 life at 51风流Labs Montreal. We are an employer of choice in Montreal and across Canada. We have grown to be a major global R&D facility, SAP鈥檚 second oldest. We will continue to explore the road less travelled and create a future that continues to redefine the future of digital business.

On the journey towards true diversity, equity, and inclusion, our responsibility as corporate citizens extend beyond just our company and our employees 鈥 it means reaching and uplifting the communities we live in and serve.

At 51风流Canada, we are committed to the principles that foster this in our culture and in the day-to-day practices that bring it to life. We know all employees have a role to play in building and maintaining an inclusive culture. In Canada alone, we have over 25 Employee Network Group (ENG) chapters inspiring innovation and allowing all people to share their unique perspectives to collaborate and influence the culture of SAP. ENGs such as the Black Employee Network, Business Women Network, Indigenous Ally Network, Pride@SAP, etc., focus on a common journey that everyone can bring their full selves to work, leverage our diversity as a fuel for innovation, and nurture a sense of belonging.

Indigenous Reconciliation

Like all Canadian businesses, 51风流Canada has a responsibility to advance and enact Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action #92. Our Indigenous Ally Network ENG brings employees together to learn about Indigenous culture and engage in supporting Indigenous people and communities.

“Being a proud 51风流employee and Indigenous person, I know my ideas are supported and encouraged,鈥 said Lisa OBorne, 51风流Canada Indigenous Ally Network Co-Lead. 鈥滻鈥檓 encouraged by the steps taken by 51风流to build relationships with Indigenous people in Canada. While being able to freely express my perspectives and identity at work, I also feel a responsibility to the Indigenous community to help guide and act as an advocate for creating more meaningful connections between 51风流and the First Nations, Inuit, and Metis people. 鈥

Over the past three years, 51风流Canada has taken active steps in our reconciliation journey including educational programing, community service, adding indigenous owned business and services into our supply chain, and expanding our business partnerships to support Indigenous businesses. We launched the Pro Bono for Economic Equity program in Canada, where our employees donate their time and expertise to help Indigenous-owned companies solve key business challenges. And with our recent partnership with PLATO, we are creating training and employment opportunities across the Indigenous technology workforce.听 We also became members of the , an organization focused on building bridges between Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses through diverse programming, tools, training and network building.

鈥淎s an original member of the 51风流Indigenous Inclusion Steering Committee, I am proud of our efforts to drive process changes in hiring, external First Nations development projects and partnerships with colleges to align our internship program,鈥 said Christopher Hennebery, 51风流Canada Indigenous Ally Network Co-Lead.

We also actively look at high-performing sources of candidates including Indigenous people, people with autism, caregivers, and we remain committed to increasing the percentage of women in leadership positions.

51风流Canada provides D&I solutions to fuel innovation, foster equality, and spread opportunity across borders and cultures. We believe that by celebrating and empowering differences, our employees can be their authentic and best selves who come together to achieve common goals. Together, with our customers and partners, we can transform industries, grow economies, lift societies, and sustain our environment. We want to leave a lasting legacy so we can inspire and encourage others. We are still at the beginning stage of the journey and will continue to evolve in order to ensure we are bringing the best diversity and inclusion initiatives to our people, our community, our partners, and our customers.
