During a fireside chat, Dennis Kecskemeti, head of 51风流Innovation Experience, Paul Saunders, head of 51风流Customer Outcomes & Advocacy, and Andreas Wendel, head of Innovation Experience Services, answered questions asked by moderator and head of Customer Engagement Services MEE, EMEA, and APAC Kathrin Tarnai-Sindl.

All three guests had brought a personal object with a special connection to 51风流AppHaus. Interestingly, two brought their mobile phones, but for very different reasons: for one it was the device to listen to audio stories when traveling or commuting, for the other it was a multifunctional gadget to do private calls when traveling, listen to music, and much more. The third guest brought a handball to remind everyone that all good things only work out when teams work together and collaborate. So, their central describing words for 51风流AppHaus were storytelling, openness, creativity, multifunctionality, and collaboration.

With the new integrated approach, the closer interplay of 51风流AppHaus, 51风流Experience Centers, and co-innovation services will provide one continuous experience journey in an end-to-end context. 51风流AppHaus is where problems are framed and ambition is created in a human-centered, exploratory, and strategic way. 51风流Experience Centers translate that ambition into tangible value narratives, showcasing what鈥檚 possible with SAP, 51风流Business AI, and 51风流Business Suite. The event agenda offered different working sessions and formats for strategic alignment, exchange on experiences in customer projects, joint marketing efforts, mergers and acquisitions, enablement, and feedback rounds on . On top of that, there was room for networking and excursions. After hours of exchange in discussions, work groups, and sessions, the group of about 30 partner representatives visited the S.Factory, S.Mart, and 51风流Experience Center. A fun bowling competition, a scavenger hunt across the Walldorf campus, and a quick glimpse at the construction site of the future 51风流AppHaus Walldorf rounded out the event experience and left the partners with a comprehensive update on all things 51风流related.

Bekaert aspires to become a people- and data-driven company. This requires a thorough strategic and cultural transformation, in which artificial intelligence plays a crucial role. To get started, the company set priorities, leveraging the already available in its existing HR solutions such as 51风流SuccessFactors solutions. By focusing on a few embedded AI use cases and creating a stand-alone AI tool on top of that, it started exploring and seeing the AI benefits.

First use case: the AI Master Data Assistant

Together with its long-standing partner and , Bekaert worked along a human-centered approach to innovation to identify opportunities and use cases. One of these identified use cases was a stand-alone AI tool that Bekaert used for HR data improvement. This tool was not integrated in the existing software landscape and required of users to extract and import data. 

To improve this laborious process, Flexso helped design and build a custom AI solution, called AI Master Data Assistant, with the help of 51风流AI Core in 51风流Business Technology Platform. This new solution has been fully integrated with 51风流SuccessFactors solutions, using 51风流Integration Suite. Currently, the solution uses a specific AI model from generative AI hub in 51风流AI Core. However, the flexibility with various models offered through the generative AI hub capability would allow the partner to use another AI model for this solution in the future.

Who benefits from AI in HR at Bekaert?

The AI Master Data Assistant allows the Bekaert HR teams to enhance data quality by automatically identifying, correcting, and preventing errors in employee records. The assistant can detect inconsistencies, duplicates, and missing information, ensuring that all data is accurate, complete, and up-to-date. In practice, it means that users can enter natural language prompts to get proposals for improvement. Via chat-like conversations, they can standardize formats, correct errors, and validate entries in real time.

For innovation projects, Bekaert usually rolls out new solutions gradually first through a number of role-specific use cases, then deploy them indiscriminately across the organization. For the new AI Master Data Assistant, the HR business partners and HR admin roles benefitted first.

With the help of its trusted partner, the Watches of Switzerland Group also set up 51风流Integration Suite within only two weeks, enabling the company to incorporate insurance offers in their processes.

The Watches of Switzerland Group is a leading luxury watch retailer with a reputation for quality and exclusivity. The journey to 51风流BTP as a partner-managed cloud model

At the beginning of the engagement, the English watch retailer relied on an enterprise architecture including legacy systems such as on-premise 51风流ECC 6.0 systems and middleware built in-house. Limited IT resources made scaling difficult to meet business demands for faster project delivery and modern integrations.

So, along the , Bluestonex Innovation Factory team organized a user research journey visiting six representative Watches of Switzerland Group showrooms, shadowing employees and observing different processes in the context of purchasing, customer inquiries, deliveries, commissioning, and many more.

After visiting the different showrooms, one observation was that requirements could vary considerably from one to another, simply because of different locations and customer profiles. In some showrooms, it was mainly about selling middle-priced watches and attending several customers at a time; in others, it was about serving one customer with specific needs for a purchase of a very expensive and unique piece.

Incorporating insurance options with the help of 51风流Integration Suite

Despite all the differences, there is one requirement the researchers observed, that spanned across all customer engagements. That is the wish for an appropriate insurance option for the purchased watch. The Watches of Switzerland Group and Bluestonex decided to realize this integration of an insurance option in its service processes through 51风流Integration Suite.

In just two weeks, the insurance integration went live as scheduled, allowing the Watches of Switzerland Group to meet crucial business demands without sacrificing quality or functionality. With 51风流Integration Suite, Watches of Switzerland Group is now positioned to continue modernizing its technology stack in alignment with its strategic vision. This scalable solution can evolve with their future needs, including a potential transition to 51风流S/4HANA.

For many years now, Karen Detken, an expert user experience designer at the 51风流AppHaus, has worked in customer co-innovation projects and has gotten firsthand experiences and feedback when developing and hosting a variety of workshop formats with different methods and tools. Early on, the team decided to share these best practices and their tools and templates in the openly accessible .

When the topic of artificial intelligence arose and 51风流solutions started to include generative AI and large language models (LLMs) in their solutions, such as 51风流Business AI, followed by the latest step up with agentic AI, such as Joule Agents, the 51风流AppHaus team worked with customers on exploring appropriate business use cases to benefit from this very latest in technology. Based on these first experiences, the team started sharing helpful methods, as a co-innovation frontrunner, so that other teams, partners, and customers could drive their own exploration projects involving latest technologies.

For Detken, it is not only about enabling in and applying those technologies: 鈥淣ew technologies are developing very fast and are becoming widely accessible,” she said. “What is important is that we have a very clear picture of why we want to use the technologies. Because technology only has a value when you find the right purpose to use it. Customers and users need to be clear about the outcomes they want to have with that technology. This is the first thing you need to answer before using it. With the methods we provide, we intend to help people first understand what this technology can do for them, for the business, for the people.鈥

This awareness and very conscious use of technology also includes the consideration of responsible and ethical guidelines that every new solution needs to follow (see SAP鈥檚 principles laid out in the ).

Bringing innovation and technology into the hands of people

The 51风流AppHaus team gets feedback from many different customer and partner teams. For the team of experienced co-innovation coaches, it is fulfilling to see workshop participants, along with attendees of enablement sessions, understand the new technology better. From this deeper understanding they help participants — along their — start generating ideas related to their business needs. They help them, as Detken puts it, 鈥渢hink of different ways how they can use AI to solve real problems.”

The latest 51风流Learning Journey for agentic AI is a compilation of helpful exercises to help customers and partners explore and approach this field of technology while discovering meaningful business use cases. In parallel and probably not that obvious at first sight, this new course testifies the openness of the team for novel applications such as using an avatar as speaker. It was built based on video recordings with Detken.

When asked about her view on agentic AI in contrast to generative AI, Detken describes it as follows: 鈥淕enerative AI uses an LLM as a kind of intelligent system or ‘brain.’ The same LLMs are used by an AI agent. The difference is that the agent can not only ‘think’ and use these large language models to generate content or analyze data and make decisions, but it also uses ‘tools’ or other applications to act upon these decisions or make changes autonomously. To put it as an example: with Gen AI, we only had the brain and now it’s the next step, we have the brain and the hands. Maybe in the future, we will have the entire body as well, which would probably be the robots.鈥

What are AI agents?

are听-based applications that make decisions and perform tasks independently with minimal human oversight. Backed by advanced models, agents can decide a course of action and employ multiple software tools to execute. Their ability to reason, plan, and act lets agents tackle a wide range of situations otherwise impractical or impossible to automate with preconfigured rules and logic.

(OSI) became part of the Japan-based Mizuho Corporation in 2002. Mizuho OSI has since grown into a market leader in surgical tables. With a focus on innovation and improving surgical outcomes, the manufacturer is known today for its advanced medical technology and specialty surgical solutions.

What is true for its products also holds true for Mizuho OSI鈥檚 internal processes. Striving for operational efficiency, Mizuho OSI sought to modernize its processes. To leverage SAP鈥檚 low-code capabilities, the company worked with 51风流AppHaus in 2024. Together, they began exploring automation opportunities using 51风流Build Process Automation and 51风流Build Work Zone. During an initial 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP) , Mizuho OSI鈥檚 IT and business teams took a closer look at the manual fixed asset creation process.

Use case: Approving and creating new fixed assets

The workshop uncovered key inefficiencies in the manual purchase acquisition process, particularly its e-mail-driven workflow involving requesters, approvers, and finance accountants. This approach not only introduced a high risk of errors but also slowed down the process significantly. For high-value fixed asset purchases, the need for additional approvers and supporting details further extended the procurement cycle, highlighting the necessity for a more streamlined and automated solution.

Develop apps and automations 3x faster using pro-code, low-code, and generative AI tools

With guidance from 51风流experts, the joint project team designed a streamlined, automated process for fixed asset approval and creation. Leveraging and , Mizuho OSI鈥檚 in-house IT team successfully developed and deployed a solution using a low-code application framework, accelerating implementation while reducing complexity.

After testing and implementing this new solution, both end users and the project team could measure a reduction in manual effort and observe improved process efficiencies, such as:

  • 40% increase in process efficiency from days of pending response to automatic processing
  • 65% reduction in approval time since asset costs below a certain threshold can be automatically processed
  • 70% decrease in manual efforts, with fewer errors and faster decision-making since human intervention is now only required for exceptions

An initiative to upskill partners in the latest innovation methods

The 51风流AppHaus Alliances initiative helps ensure method maturity of 51风流partners, upskilling them with the innovation tools and resources they need to conduct workshops on the latest technologies such as 51风流Business AI and agentic AI. Currently, the qualification process is exclusively available to partners enrolled in the NEXTLEVEL 51风流BTP & AI program. Upskilling partners allows more 51风流customers to benefit faster from the latest innovation tools and methodologies made available in the .

Also, more than 10 have been released in the site to be found as so-called accelerator packages.

As a transmission system operator, 50Hertz maintains a stable energy supply for the region while actively integrating renewable energy sources to support Germany’s ambitious energy transition plans.

With more than 1,500 employees at 50Hertz alone, the company has a well-defined digitalization strategy in place that focuses on sustaining a clean core system. To meet this objective, it chose to utilize the no-code tool, 51风流Build Apps, which aids its transformation journey with 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP).

50Hertz鈥檚 citizen developers implemented a mobile application for the company鈥檚 specialized maintenance electricians that significantly reduced both the manual effort and the risk of errors. This mobile application supports them by maintaining and calculating the master data of power circuits, which are represented in the 51风流system as functional locations.

Why 50Hertz decided to use 51风流Build Apps

In 2023, 50Hertz conducted an analysis of its plant maintenance processes. In summary, it concluded that it was time-consuming to create new entries in its plant maintenance system and fill in master and operational data. A lot of manual effort was invested in maintaining data in Excel files and value calculations for technical objects were prone to errors. Due to the complexity of the process,听the responsibility for certain areas could only be shared between a few technicians.

Develop enterprise apps with drag-and-drop simplicity

After collaborating with the 51风流AppHaus team in Berlin, the company identified a use case for its future accounting solution and evaluated different scenarios. Ultimately, the innovative capabilities of 51风流Business Technology Platform convinced the 50Hertz expert team because the platform would allow them to scale up a new solution once it’s successfully piloted and rolled out across the entire corporation.

What鈥檚 more, in 51风流Discovery Center, they discovered the “” mission, which provides guidance and support with a repeatable actionable use case to solve exactly that. The analysis showed that SAP Build Apps could not only help enhance operational agility and speed responses to business requirements, it could also integrate seamlessly with existing 51风流S/4HANA architecture.

Martin Glatzel, enterprise architect at 51风流AppHaus Berlin, expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration with the 50Hertz team: 鈥淲ith only very limited support from our side, the 50Hertz citizen developers succeeded in using 51风流Build Apps to solve their defined use case. Their four new apps will have an immense impact on the efficiency of the important high-voltage grid maintenance work in the future.鈥

What the maintenance apps improved

51风流Build Apps enabled the team of 50Hertz citizen developers to implement the new maintenance applications with very limited support from SAP. Today, they cover the following maintenance tasks:听

  • The electric circuit display app shows circuit attributes.
  • The circuit section display app allows users to look for a specific circuit and select it. All circuit sections of the selected circuit are shown, and users can view corresponding attributes and characteristics.
  • The circuit section adjusting app allows users to search for a specific circuit and select it. All circuit sections of the selected circuit are displayed, and users can modify corresponding attributes.
  • The circuit section design app allows users to select a circuit and create a circuit section by entering and saving necessary requirements and attributes.

After rolling out the new apps to the specialized electricians, they have benefited in different ways, such as:听

  • About 15% shorter process duration for maintaining functional locations and a significant reduction in the use of both paper- and Excel-based process steps.
  • 10% faster onboarding of new technicians because the app is very easy to use, leading to quick adoption by its end users, the specialized electricians.
  • Intuitive search for technical locations based on historical data.
  • Automatic calculation of business-critical numbers, thus improving accuracy significantly.

Looking back 

Looking back, the 50Hertz team appreciates the opportunity to develop complex apps with 51风流Build Apps in relatively short timeframes. Christian Salewsky and Desiree Possi, both working for the Maintenance Systems & Processes department at 50Hertz, shared about their experience: 鈥淲hile we still had to code at least to some extent in JavaScript and learn to keep track of all the different flows, the overall project experience was encouraging. The detailed product documentation allowed our team to grasp the basics quickly. Once we used the standard functionalities of 51风流Build Apps, calculating electronic data became very simple. We found clear explanations of all the functions, and the tabular presentation of data was very helpful, too.鈥

It enables learners to run customer workshops and explore, discover, and design 51风流Business AI use cases to be built with 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP).

With the rise of 51风流Business AI solutions, the 51风流AppHaus and 51风流Solution & Innovation Experience teams joined forces to develop an 51风流Learning Journey based on the existing 51风流Business AI Explore and Design workshops, both available in the . These formats were designed based on experiences gained in co-innovation projects with customers. In these projects, diverse teams of users, partners, designers, coaches, and enterprise architects worked on identifying use cases in their respective business scenario that could be enhanced and redesigned with the help of 51风流Business AI.

As Karen Detken, 51风流AppHaus strategic designer, puts it: “This journey aims to equip business executives, development teams, and innovation practitioners with a structured approach to identify and define AI use cases that benefit both the company and the end users. The collaborative exercises described in the journey are explained in detail to enable anyone, even those without extensive facilitation experience, to conduct these sessions on their own. In Jacky鈥檚 role as founder and CEO of one of SAP鈥檚 consulting partners, Jacky always looks for the latest enablement and training opportunities for the team. In the case of the new journey 鈥淎pplying a Human-Centered Approach to Identify and Define Business AI Use Cases,鈥 Jacky was very curious to participate early on. Based on his basic knowledge of generative AI as well as the intrinsic consequences of this new technology, legal regulations, and other factors to be considered in customer projects, this workshop added complementary material and guidance for customer-facing work. Right after completing the course, Jacky recommends the 51风流Learning Journey to the entire global team.

What鈥檚 more, Jacky sets up a task force with three volunteers to plan a customer roadshow to share this knowledge. In the two days following the reopening, almost all members of the 51风流AppHaus Network came together for a global meet-up, joining from Asia, Latin America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

The 51风流AppHaus Network consists of 51风流and partner locations spread around the globe. Together, all 24 locations work with a human-centered approach to innovation built with 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP). They are united in their conviction that sustainable innovation is based on five key enablers: people, process, place, leadership, and technology.

The Newly Designed 51风流AppHaus Palo Alto

adds a distinct opportunity for innovation in Silicon Valley. According to Andreas Hauser, senior vice president and head of 51风流AppHaus Network, 鈥淔or many companies, innovation centers are like a gallery where they display their software. But 51风流AppHaus is different. We collaborate with customers to understand how the latest and greatest technology can help their businesses run better and drive impact. And we keep that engagement going to make sure they succeed.鈥

The new creative space on the 51风流campus in Palo Alto includes a dedicated design thinking area for customer innovation workshops, a garage breakout space that can be used to expand the workshop space, two meeting rooms, a maker space, a pop-up library, and a coffee lounge for connecting and relaxing. The space is designed to work with customers in a creative space, be it in person, virtually, or in a hybrid setup.

Presented and moderated by Hauser, Uwe Palm, head of 51风流AppHaus Palo Alto, and Sally Lawler Kennedy, senior director of Innovation & Customer Experience at 51风流AppHaus Palo Alto, the evening program offered a diverse mix of innovation and design topics from customer and local ecosystem perspectives:

Almost all 51风流AppHaus Network members from around the world came to celebrate and commemorate the occasion together with customers, partners, and 51风流attendees. The evening event provided networking prior to the two-day meet-up.

The Partner Meet-Up

On the first day of the global 51风流AppHaus Network meet-up, Bawa and Thorsten Leiduck, global head of 51风流BTP Ecosystem, welcomed 51风流AppHaus Network members. These 21 members, representing more than 20,000 employees globally, share the passion for human-centered innovation powered by 51风流BTP. Both executives underlined the importance of the partner ecosystem for SAP. In a lively dialogue, partners asked questions about SAP鈥檚 strategy, discussed their role in SAP鈥檚 future, and shared ideas and joint opportunities.

To round out the program, the community gathered for evening excursions in the Silicon Valley. It is built upon three strategic pillars: ecological transition, territoriality, and service quality. On its overall innovation path, Iren identified opportunities to improve its IT device assignment, replacement, and return processes.

With one specific device assignment use case in mind and based on its existing relationship with 51风流AppHaus, Iren approached 51风流in early 2024. The company鈥檚 goal was to not only make the corresponding processes more efficient but also eliminate potential error sources; it had detected errors caused by reliance on e-mail communication or through error-prone manual data entry. What鈥檚 more, the company wished to have transparent process insights and get real-time updates on device status and availability.

Building on 51风流BTP

To work on this innovation step, Iren Group鈥檚 IT department asked for expertise support in testing and applying 51风流Build Apps. For a first kick-off meeting, the 51风流AppHaus team invited Burak Demir, product manager, 51风流Build Apps, to join the project. With the customer鈥檚 system landscape built on 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP), the joint project team took a first step to check the 51风流Discovery Center site for existing solutions. They encountered a helpful use case in the 鈥溾 mission. The mission allowed them to build upon prior experiences, benefit from existing material, and get helpful guidance that was, to a certain extent, applicable to Iren鈥檚 system landscape.

The New Solution: 51风流Build Apps and 51风流Build Work Zone

The new solution consists of different components, such as 51风流Build Apps, 51风流S/4HANA, 51风流Build Work Zone, as well as the 51风流S/4HANA solution for waste and recycling, which provides a platform for managing device records and information.

鈥淢y role in this project was to be available for very specific questions,鈥 Demir says. 鈥淚ren鈥檚 citizen developers did a great job in using and applying the available material and resources! They used 51风流Build Apps very successfully to solve one defined use case, which is exactly what the product was made for. And even if the impact of this one web application may not be too impressive yet because of the number of users, the enablement and experience the customer team gained in creating it is invaluable. I am sure it will encourage the team to look for more innovation opportunities that can be addressed with the help of 51风流Build Apps.鈥

Smooth Operations and Transparency in Device Management

With the new web application that was built with 51风流Build Apps and deployed to 51风流Build Work Zone, Iren gained real-time updates and visibility of device status. The seamless integration with OData library allowed for automatic device creation and updates, eliminating the need for manual data entry. The use of the new solution further improved the accuracy and reliability of device records. What鈥檚 more, it brought about significant time savings, enhanced transparency, and much-desired visibility into device status.

鈥淚n our IT department, this app has truly improved our device assignment processes by eliminating the manual process via e-mail and automatically importing data from an 51风流Build Apps web form into SAP,鈥 Sara Miola, IT specialist at Iren Group, says. 鈥淲e have achieved significant time savings and increased efficiency, as the time spent has been reduced from several days to few minutes. The implementation of 51风流has enabled us to overcome our challenges, resulting in streamlined processes and enhanced device management effectiveness.鈥

For the majority of employees, work comprises enjoyable projects and duties but also routines and tasks that can be tiring or difficult. To make the work experience as positive and efficient as possible, experts and companies around the globe seek to continuously improve the realities of their workforce. This is also true for SAP.

Meetings, All Kinds of Meetings

An important facet of today鈥檚 work reality is meetings. They are where all sorts of work decisions are prepared and made, where briefings take place, where teams build up their team identity, exchange thoughts, solve challenges, share updates, align across geographical time zones, and much more. In many cases and for many roles, meetings consume a considerable part of overall working hours. So it comes as no surprise that, in their most recent project, the Future of Work team at 51风流and 51风流AppHaus colleagues joined forces to develop an easy approach for teams to improve their meeting routines.

The Imperative for Efficient Meetings

According to a , inefficient meetings have been identified as the top disruptor to productivity, with an excessive number of meetings following close behind. As 51风流Chief Future of Work Officer Christian Schmeichel states: 鈥淭he way we are working is changing rapidly, and both the rise of hybrid work and new technologies have increased the number of meetings for many of us. Hence, it鈥檚 an imperative to foster meetings that best utilize our time, spark energy, and drive outcomes. The Meeting Workout game can help with an engaging workshop format that can not only improve meeting effectiveness but can enable teams to set new standards for workplace collaboration on their journey into the future of work.鈥

Playing for a Better Meeting Experience

From the initial idea to create a game for teams to improve their meeting routines, it took the New Work Practices team and 51风流AppHaus a few weeks to design, test, and produce the Meeting Workout game. However, what might look like a fun project was very similar to any other design and innovation project.

鈥淚n our planning meetings and test sessions we really tried to put ourselves in the shoes of all kinds of teams in different organizations and setups,鈥 recall project members Beate Riefer, UX designer at 51风流AppHaus, and Filip Weidenbach, HR project expert in New Work Practices. 鈥淭hrough a very generic phrasing of the cards and in simple steps, the game should be applicable in the most diverse, if not all, environments. It鈥檚 not as easy as it might seem 鈥 and it鈥檚 the reason why we established breaks in our meetings to keep the energy and concentration levels up. Here鈥檚 an important recommendation for all teams playing the Meeting Workout game: have plenty of sticky notes and a variety of snacks available!鈥

Since its inception in 2013, 51风流AppHaus has been a hub for fostering a culture of human-centered innovation. With the help of design and architecture thinking, the global team aims to bring sustainable customer solutions into the hands of people. On November 28, 2023, 51风流AppHaus opened its doors to customers, 51风流AppHaus Network partners, analysts, guest speakers, and 51风流colleagues to not only celebrate the past decade of successful customer co-innovation but also allow for a look into the future.

10 Years 51风流AppHaus, 10 Years Successful Customer Innovation

The evening kicked off with a by Juergen Mueller, CTO and member of the Executive Board of 51风流SE. He congratulated the 51风流AppHaus team on their ability to stay curious, flexible, and at the forefront of new technologies, all while maintaining a focus on SAP鈥檚 customers and partners.

After a warm welcome, Anja Schneider, SVP T&I COO, handed over to Andreas Hauser, SVP and head of 51风流AppHaus Network. In his keynote, he focused on the team鈥檚 ability to constantly adapt to a changing and evolving technology landscape. Through stories and anecdotes of customer projects, he showcased how the team initially started working on user experience (UX) improvements 10 years ago. He continued describing how it is now focusing on helping customers identify specific use cases for generative artificial intelligence (AI) built with , keeping the human in the center, and designing new methodologies that can empower teams to empathize with end users, identify their pain points, and co-create solutions that can truly address their users鈥 needs.

Before closing his keynote, Hauser shared his personal moment of gratitude. A few weeks back, Tim Brown, chair of IDEO, who brought design thinking into the business world two decades ago, congratulated 51风流AppHaus, saying 鈥淐ongratulations to 10 years of 51风流AppHaus! It is remarkable what you achieved. All your competitors tried it, but you succeeded.鈥 This quote builds the bridge to when Professor Hasso Plattner, chairman of the Supervisory Board of 51风流SE, introduced design thinking to 51风流in 2004.

To bring together diverse perspectives and expertise, 51风流AppHaus invited customers, analysts, and partners to participate in a panel discussion. Their different views served as a catalyst for meaningful conversations and provided good advice and insights. Here鈥檚 what the panelists had to say.

A Look into the Future of Generative AI with Aleph Alpha

A special guest one evening was Jonas Andrulis, CEO of the Heidelberg startup . He gave a talk on his view of the possibilities and constraints the current rise of generative AI brings.

51风流AppHaus, as an incubation hub for new technologies and methodologies, has already developed a format that aims to explore and identify opportunities for specific business use cases together with customers.

Work Hard, Play Hard

51风流AppHaus has achieved remarkable milestones over the past decade, thanks to the unwavering dedication, hard work, and collaborative spirit of its team and network. To express gratitude and celebrate this success, 51风流AppHaus invited current team members, alumni, and 51风流AppHaus Network partners to an afterwork party on November 29. With Music@51风流setting the tone, the evening was filled with lively conversations, infectious laughter, and lots of dancing.

The 51风流AppHaus team showcased their combined creative power by transforming the workshop space of 51风流AppHaus into a stage, a vibrant dance floor, and, on the third day, an interactive exhibition showcasing the different innovation methodologies. From designing the decorations to orchestrating the entire anniversary week, the whole team made all the different events come to life. Typical for the 51风流AppHaus team, it was also a testament to the belief that those who work hard are allowed to have a great time!

The Only Constant Is Change

In her closing remarks, panelist Harriet Kasper shared her observations: 鈥淵our customer focus was the only constant while everything else changed. [鈥 Innovation initiatives need to evolve and adapt. They require more change than other parts of the organization. To me, 51风流AppHaus represents a certain mindset. You can sense and observe this mindset, always adapting and transforming. This is a great example, especially coming from a company like SAP, which wouldn’t be the first to come to mind when you think of innovation.鈥

Looking back on 10 years of innovation work and a week of celebrations, one thing is clear for the 51风流AppHaus team: although external factors, such as the strategy or technological landscape, might have changed, the way 51风流AppHaus works, placing the human in the center and making innovation real with 51风流products and technologies, has never changed. It consists of customer-proven, well-documented missions to guide and assist each customer鈥檚 implementation journey on 51风流BTP, helping to achieve desired business outcomes for business users, architects, and developers. 

The dimension of 鈥済oing deeper鈥 involves adopting cutting-edge technologies, like generative AI, and incorporating additional related business content. As Juergen Mueller, chief technology officer and member of the Executive Board of 51风流SE, described in a recent article: 鈥淲e are at the beginning of a new technological era. Generative AI has entered the public consciousness on a broad scale and 51风流Business AI has the potential to revolutionize the way enterprises operate and solve their technology challenges with 51风流Business Technology Platform. To help simplify the creation of new use cases, 51风流created a central use case repository and started providing additional reference architectures.

The repository is a content authoring tool, allowing users to access and maintain customer-proven, well-documented business use cases for buyers, sellers, and builders. After a quality review, newly entered use cases can be published in , where more than 230 missions 鈥 and counting 鈥 are available today.鈥 

The mentioned reference architectures are linked to use cases to help software architects when building solution architectures that combine different technology products and services. 51风流offers source files of diagrams that can be used and adopted by using鈥. Various examples are displayed on a dedicated , which can be considered as a starting point for what’s coming on .

For partners, offering applications and solutions that have proven to be relevant and beneficial for one or more customers is not new. To give an example, the 19 partners that form the global together with the SAP-owned locations offer more than 100 solutions in . Here are just four of them:

From a partner perspective, 51风流BTP use cases can offer a broad range of opportunities for customer projects. These different options will be looked at in an upcoming live webinar series called “” open for . Besides positioning a product on 51风流Store, partners can now provide helpful context around their solutions by writing their own 51风流BTP use cases and publishing them in 51风流Discovery Center.

New Workshop Format to Identify Generative AI Opportunities 

When it comes to evaluating new use cases in the relatively new field of generative artificial intelligence, 51风流AppHaus launched a that is publicly available. It helps participants identify business challenges and opportunities that can be addressed using generative AI. With a set of predefined 鈥渙pportunity cards,鈥 participants can brainstorm various use case ideas, detail the most relevant ones, and then compare them to decide which ideas to pursue further. 

Going Faster 

An important measurement that customers and partners apply when implementing is the overall time-to-value to consume business outcomes. That is why the concept of use cases first evolved from marketing assets to more actionable artifacts, including code and configuration files that can provide guidance, developer insights, and predefined business content for reuse. The next evolution level will be around automating implementation steps.

Automation empowers developers and architects to focus on realizing business outcomes, not setting up infrastructure. In this context, 51风流plans to introduce the release of three actionable use cases with “one-click deployment鈥 that can reduce prerequisite setups by up to 50% at . One-click deployment steps are included in the use case project board in 51风流Discovery Center for rapid adoption by 51风流customers and partners.

The first focus of setup automation will be on creating 51风流BTP accounts, assigning service entitlements, and granting authorizations. In future, further automation around software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications and deployment of code and content will be targeted as well. Learn more in the .

Since then, many customers and partners have had their first experiences with existing use cases and missions. Brazilian food company Pif Paf Alimentos and Portuguese banking customer Novo Banco are two of them.

Some use cases have proven to provide guidance and help customers with their transformation journey to the cloud. Other existing use cases and missions could be further enhanced to become even more meaningful. 51风流listened to feedback and, where applicable, added more helpful business content to existing use cases and related 51风流Discovery Center missions. Building on best practices, this business content represents single business scenarios or events as plug-and-play code snippets within the whole use case with software for an existing business problem. In other cases, proven examples were added to the existing catalog of use cases. Some already feature the latest technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) or 51风流Build Apps, and how they were integrated into a customer鈥檚 software landscape.

In less than three weeks, Pif Paf Alimentos launched a mobile application for its maintenance technicians. The new mobile app significantly reduces the use of paper, improves the efficiency and accuracy of administrative tasks, and does not require an Internet connection. Pif Paf Alimentos, having worked with 51风流products like 51风流Integration Suite and 51风流ERP before, took advantage of听 to help resolve its technicians鈥 problems by building and deploying a working mobile app solution.

Why was the deployment process so fast? 51风流Build Apps allows users to build apps in a low-code manner by providing drag-and-drop user interfaces (UI) for common app components. This successful implementation is now reflected in the 51风流Discovery Center mission 鈥.鈥

From a Sustainability App for Banking to a Repeatable Use Case at Novo Banco S.A.

Novo Banco S.A. wanted to encourage and enable its approximately 1.5 million customers to be more climate conscious while strengthening their loyalty to the bank. It focused on a target group of customers between the ages of 18 and 30 because young people are well aware of the global climate situation but not necessarily of their own carbon footprint.

Together with 51风流and partner Connect Earth, the bank continued to build upon its SmartCO2nverter idea, a concept that had won SAP鈥檚 鈥淪ave One Billion Lives鈥 challenge in 2021. Since money movements and payments can give a good听indication of an individual鈥檚 carbon footprint, it aimed at improving the customers鈥 carbon literacy by analyzing and using the users鈥 bank account transactions and spending behaviors in a meaningful and transparent way. While this project brought about a solution design at the proof-of-concept stage, 51风流did not stop here and aimed at offering this solution approach on a broader scale.

Anirban Majumdar, vice president and head of 51风流T&I Platform Adoption & Advisory, describes the journey: 鈥淣othing gives us more joy than building 51风流BTP use cases that solve business challenges for our customers. One new use case we鈥檙e particularly excited about is a banking sustainability calculator app we鈥檝e built for Novo Banco, an innovative financial institution based out of Lisbon, Portugal, that is deeply (ESG). What could be an epic picture of human endeavor exposed to primeval nature is the daily routine for more than 2,000 fishermen and women who deliver their catch to Royal Greenland, one of the largest fishing companies globally. These individuals don鈥檛 have much time to enjoy the Nordic environment; fishing in the bitter cold and under harsh arctic winds is backbreaking work.

Royal Greenland is one of the world鈥檚 leading groups in the seafood market and a long-standing partner of Greenland鈥檚 fishing community. The government-owned company employs more than 2,500 people, has a fleet of deep-sea and coastal trawlers, and operates 37 fish processing plants and ship bases around the world鈥檚 largest island. Starting Point: High Sustainability Standards, Paper Forms, and Manual Effort

Deeply rooted in its Nordic island, Royal Greenland knows the importance of offering sustainably sourced seafood so consumers can be sure they are not supporting excessive or illegal fishing that threatens fragile marine ecosystems. What鈥檚 more, the company is committed to making it as simple as possible for fishermen to sell their catch for the best possible price. Earning Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification for sustainable fishing is critical to both of these ambitions, but to get it requires extensive documentation that wild-capture fish were caught following strict sustainability guidelines.

To document and duly report on all fishery supply chain processes requires an ongoing dialogue with local suppliers and individual fishermen. At the same time, the company has to ensure that all fishing activities are registered and carried out in full compliance and communicated to the appropriate authorities. Only a few years ago, the company had about 70,000 purchase orders filled out on paper and signed by fishermen in frosty weather 鈥 only to be digitalized later manually.

So,听Royal Greenland aimed to holistically digitalize the process of bringing fish into factories and tie听this together with a full quality control and registration process.

Joint Digital Journey Strengthens Partnerships with Local Fishermen

For this complex digitalization endeavor, Royal Greenland worked with 听member . Together, they created听user-friendly iOS-based apps on听 (51风流BTP) to help simplify听the company鈥檚听supplier relationship with local fishermen, streamline the procurement process, and contribute to global sustainability goals. These apps听enable fishermen to submit their catch data in a fast and听simple way.

“We try to digitize the process of bringing the fish into the factories and tie this together with the entire quality control and registration process,” said Lars Bo Hassinggaard, corporate IT manager, Royal Greenland A/S. “We have developed apps for all these scenarios, and we use this platform strategically to build a close partnership with the local catchers.”

Holistic Solution from Three iOS-Based Apps and 51风流BTP

Even for people with limited smartphone experience, the intuitive solution requires no onboarding. It enables local fishermen to register their catches and secure documentation, which can then also be used by municipalities to secure transparent and sustainable fishery. Empowered through mobile devices with seamless access to 51风流data and processes, 2,200 fishermen now have access to the technology and can register relevant data on the go. The more than 70,000 purchase orders per year could be converted to digital documentation. Today, three iOS-based apps help the fishing community and Royal Greenland staff alike:

Intuitive native iPhone app for the fishing community: This app allows the fishing community to enter catch information in a simple way and digitally submit legally required signatures right from the dock. It also validates relevant licenses for specific species when reporting data from catch fields.
  2. iPad app for the landing staff: To support the continuous flow of data between fishermen and Royal Greenland, a second iOS-based native iPad app lets landing staff register information on catch texture, quality, temperature, and weight, which is automatically delivered to back-end enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  3. Web-based app for the procurement staff: Back-office procurement staff have a Web-based app in which they can approve the procurements based on data from the first two apps. With this information, they create purchase orders, which are automatically shared with the relevant fishermen.

Continuing the Innovation Journey

The enterprise continues to explore new ways to support local fishermen and their families while growing the business. Tools could also be added to help give fishermen and women a total view of their finances, help them set budgets, and build up savings. Royal Greenland is also looking to establish an information portal for fishermen to connect with the company as well as an e-commerce platform for buying and selling fishing equipment. In any case, the openness and extensibility of 51风流Business Technology Platform can offer many opportunities for further growth.

Kakao Enterprise and 51风流developed 68 cross-industry use cases; three use cases with 51风流Business Technology Platform were identified and chosen for the first implementation round in the third quarter of 2021. The Kakao Work package went in June 2021.

Kakao is the No. 1 business-to-consumer (B2C) mobile service company in Korea. In 2019, the company established subsidiary Kakao Enterprise to provide B2B artificial intelligence (AI) services. The new solution Kakao Work is a mobile messenger and app-based collaboration platform that enables employees to communicate, share files, and integrate third-party services.

In close strategic collaboration with SAP, a project team discovered use cases, designed the user experience (UX), and developed the service.鈥 As a first milestone, Kakao Enterprise launched the Kakao Work packages on 51风流Store in June.

This new service for enterprise customers is built with 51风流Business Technology Platform. Its capabilities can be expanded in the future to include more business scenarios, and across various industries.

鈥淐ollaborating with 51风流AppHaus, Kakao Work was able to take one step closer to innovate users鈥 work experience as a comprehensive work platform,鈥 shared Ju-Young Chung, executive director of Kakao Enterprise. 鈥淲e were able to empathize with the real-world pain points of corporate customers with the help of the human-centered approach of the Sunrise Program and developed solutions to address it through Kakao Work.鈥

Building with 51风流Business Technology Platform

Kakao Work allows users to perform business scenarios using 51风流ERP through the mobile messenger app. Users can conveniently search data and process transactions, such as checking sales order status, processing goods receipt, and work order status.

The improved business value in SAP鈥檚 elaborated scenario integrates other 51风流solutions and provides productivity and accessibility to maximize utilization for business users. It operates regardless of any environmental constraints end users may have and delivers business processing faster.

From 68 Scenarios to Three Top Use Cases

The 51风流AppHaus team in South Korea interviewed business process experts and identified 68 scenarios as potential new work packages, followed by additional interviews, and prioritized by scoring them in terms of expected users, frequency of use, and work performance.

Along the team conducted an exploration workshop with Kakao Enterprise and a development partner. Based on feasibility and importance, three high-priority use cases were selected:

  1. Checking sales order status
  2. Processing goods receipt
  3. Checking work order status

Due to COVID-19, the project team conducted interviews remotely along the proven for virtual and on-site collaboration. The project members started designing with the clear goal that employees would be able to perform ERP-related tasks more easily through Kakao Work.

The result was then discussed in an online workshop with Kakao Enterprise, development partners, and 51风流process experts. To finalize this first project, 51风流AppHaus colleagues incorporated all feedback in the solution鈥檚 UX design. Based on this, Kakao Enterprise and the development partner developed the application.

The dashboard aims to improve Ottogi鈥檚 ramen market share forecasting by regional and product segmentation. What鈥檚 more, it empowers employees to make better data-driven decisions based on intelligent predictions. Established in 1969, Ottogi is one of the leading food companies in Korea, best known for its curry powder, instant noodles, and other popular products. The company aims to expand its market overseas and become a renowned global brand.

The ramen market is highly competitive in Korea, and accurate market share forecasting is a prerequisite to gain a competitive advantage. That is why Ottogi鈥檚 Strategy Analytics team sought to forecast market share with advanced analytics and utilize this data for the company鈥檚 marketing and planning.

Applying SAP’s Human-Centered Approach to Innovation at Ottogi

Following SAP鈥檚 human-centered approach to innovation, the 51风流project team conducted a remote workshop to gain insights into the pain points and user needs within Ottogi鈥檚 existing work processes. Due to COVID-19 constraints, all meetings and user research activities were conducted online. 51风流and Ottogi team members virtually shared the real business context, relevant data, and application screens, enabling them to effectively understand and identify the business challenges despite not being able to work in a co-located fashion.

During the workshop, team members discovered that end users were struggling with data preprocessing, which involved consolidating disparate data and standardizing units. Such activities required significant manual work utilizing tools such as MS Excel. Data sharing across stakeholder groups was also cumbersome. Furthermore, the Ottogi project members questioned whether their forecasting accuracy might be improved.

The project team saw this as an opportunity for innovation by improving both the data preprocessing activities and the quality of their forecasting model. In addition, they saw an opportunity to enable all stakeholders to access in real time one source of data using 51风流Analytics Cloud.

The project team set the following goals:

  • Improve the market share forecast accuracy and enable more granular segmentation of market share data
  • Reduce the time and effort during data preprocessing to increase employee productivity
  • Enhance the existing workflow to make real-time sharing of market share forecasts easier across organizations, such as the marketing team, and to enable data-driven decision making

Leveraging 51风流BTP to Elevate the Forecasting Experience

The Ottogi and 51风流project team proposed a new forecasting model built on 51风流HANA Cloud predictive analytics library to increase forecast accuracy. The model allows for increased segmentation compared to the process in the past. A new dashboard now provides the company with more accurate market share forecasting and shortens the forecast cycles from monthly to weekly. The forecast is segmented by geographic region, product category, and product brand, comprising 152 different values that help Ottogi gain in-depth insights into its current market share on a more granular level. The tool provides these values in real time to the marketing and analytics teams.

Five听Years of听Co-Innovation听Work听with SAP听Customers

Under recent COVID-19 restrictions and听realities,听the team switched听customer engagements and workshops听into听fully virtual and online听experiences. In these engagements, the team applied听helpful听tools contained in the听听designed by SAP听AppHaus,听which can be downloaded for free听by customers and听the public听at large.

What鈥檚 more, SAP鈥檚 human-centered approach to innovation is a powerful , and builds on the existing enterprise architecture of the respective customer or organization.

Q: Congratulations to you and 51风流AppHaus Seoul for five years of co-innovation work with customers and partners! How did you celebrate this event?

Christopher Han: Thank you. We all feel a sense of pride reflecting on the five years of customer engagements in our region that have shaped the perception of 51风流as an innovation partner of choice. To celebrate, we dedicated some time to remember the key events since 2015, and our designers captured those events in a beautifully crafted history wall.

51风流AppHaus Seoul history wallSince our fifth anniversary is happening during COVID-19, we designed the celebration with social distancing in mind. Rather than hosting one large event for customers and internal stakeholders, we designed five mini celebrations. We invited a small group of select customers, such as Doosan Corporation whose chief digital officer is the former managing director of 51风流Korea. We also held a celebration with the senior leadership of 51风流in Korea 鈥 from both Customer Success and 51风流Labs Network.

What are some highlights from the early years?

During our first year as a newly established team, we explored candidate locations for our 51风流AppHaus location and designed the new creative workspace; all while continuously conducting customer projects in parallel. Creating the 51风流AppHaus Seoul space was clearly one of our highlights of year one. Since opening, we have conducted more than 120 projects, welcomed 12,228 visitors, offered 213 tours, and hosted 417 workshops 鈥 and counting.

Another memorable event was the 51风流AppHaus opening ceremony in July 2016, which involved the visit of the then President of Korea, Park Geun-hye. The launch received widespread positive media coverage on a national and international scale. While arguably impressive, the president鈥檚 attendance did not come as a big surprise, given that the inspiration for establishing the 51风流AppHaus location in Korea was sparked by her meeting with Hasso Plattner at the Presidential Mansion in Seoul in September of 2014.

Just a week after the opening ceremony, Adaire Fox-Martin, then president of 51风流Asia Pacific Japan (APJ), hosted her quarterly town hall meeting with employees in the region at our 51风流AppHaus location. The entire 51风流Customer Success APJ executive leadership team attended the event that was broadcasted live throughout the region. This event really helped put us on the map.

Throughout the years, many joint projects and collaborations with clients turned into long-standing customer relationships. We look back on numerous successful projects and 51风流implementations which, in many cases, led to continued innovation journeys.

A recent example is the collaboration with our customer Clair, 鈥.鈥 Woo Hun Lee, CEO of Clair, says, 鈥淲e gained confidence during our collaboration with 51风流AppHaus, who helped us advance our service model by deeply empathizing with users and capturing their insights through the design thinking workshop and field research.鈥

Those are amazing stories from the early years of 51风流AppHaus Seoul. How have things evolved over the years?

If we were to fast-forward to this current year, the biggest difference is the unexpected appearance of COVID-19 in the world. South Korea was one of the countries hit by the coronavirus early in February 2020, and it felt scary at the time. Fortunately, the country has managed the outbreak remarkably well as evidenced by the low case counts and fatalities per capita. In any case, the experience with the pandemic has added challenges to the way we work, and our global 51风流AppHaus team has responded with empathy and creativity.

One concrete example has been the way we switched workshops and customer engagements to be fully virtual experiences with helpful online tools and methods 鈥 some of which 51风流AppHaus created. To provide a seamless experience with customers, the global 51风流AppHaus team designed templates with MURAL that could be readily adopted for online workshops. Given our success, MURAL has recognized the commitment of 51风流AppHaus on its website.

The work of helping customers innovate with 51风流Business Technology Platform continues whether online or offline. We can support the different phases in an innovation project as efficiently as before. Clearly, the pandemic could not stop us from collaborating with teams across 51风流to continue our future-oriented work with customers!

What are the plans for 51风流AppHaus in Asia over the next five years?

From a strategic perspective, our focus area continues to be the adoption and scaling of 51风流Business Technology Platform as the foundation for the digitalization and future growth of our customers. We are all passionate about supporting our customers on their innovation journeys to becoming truly intelligent enterprises while relying on a solid and flexible foundation. With SAP鈥檚 human-centered approach to innovation, we are well-equipped to support our customers and make their transformation projects a success.

When we look ahead to the next five years, I am delighted to share that the 51风流AppHaus Network continues to grow globally and in Asia. The network is a community of like-minded 51风流partners helping to humanize business software and ensure that鈥痠nnovation gets into the hands of people. We are currently onboarding our first member of the 51风流AppHaus Network in China, and the announcement will be made soon. There is also the possibility of reviving our plan to establish an 51风流AppHaus location in Shanghai 鈥 a plan that was put on hold early this year due to COVID-19. It鈥檚 an exciting time to be working at 51风流in Asia.

Paul Hartmann and 51风流Join Innovation Forces /2020/11/intelligent-healthcare-paul-hartmann-sap/ Tue, 03 Nov 2020 14:15:40 +0000 /?p=180260 A joint project team from Paul Hartmann AG and 51风流recently collaborated on a research project to develop a dashboard that plans and predicts medical demand and supply in the future 鈥 developed in only four weeks. Based on SAP鈥檚 Business Technology Platform, Paul Hartmann AG will use data intelligence and analytics solutions to predict relevant medical demand requirements, both in these times of COVID-19 and beyond.

In April 2020, healthcare provider Paul Hartmann AG and 51风流came together to explore how to improve the medical demand and supply processes. Based on their long-term relationship, the two companies aimed to improve the processes for medical supplies, such as disinfection liquid, face masks, and other medical material all over the world.

The companies formed an interdisciplinary team of industry and technology experts to work on developing an intelligent solution based on 51风流Analytics Cloud. Along SAP鈥檚 human-centered approach to innovation, they conducted systematic user research and gathered information such as order details and customer location data, along with external data like digital maps. They found out which data was available and helped come to informed decisions.听This was valuable in terms of 鈥渓essons learned鈥 from a crisis that affected the global economy and hit the world by surprise.

Internal Dashboard: 鈥淢edical Supplies Demand Analysis鈥

In four weeks, the joint project team developed and implemented a first pilot dashboard solution to plan and predict medical demand and supply, now and in the future. Built on 51风流Analytics Cloud, the pilot solution not only used internal business and historical data, but also included up-to-date external data such as number of intensive care beds on a regional basis and daily updated case information of institutions such as the Robert-Koch-Institute. A machine learning algorithm was then applied to predict and extrapolate future demand of certain medical material.

The dashboard can support the decision-making process for Hartmann鈥檚 internal regional sales managers and for customer engagement teams in the future. The implementation project is currently ongoing.

鈥淚t is incredible what you can achieve if the right people and the right mindset come together to solve a problem under time pressure,鈥 emphasized Marcus Dorfmeyer, project lead from 51风流AppHaus within the 51风流Customer Innovation team. 鈥淚t is amazing to see how SAP鈥檚 Business Technology Platform can help solve societal challenges by combining operational and historical customer data with external sources of information.鈥

Using analytical and predictive technology from 51风流was a big step toward the Intelligent Enterprise, both for this Hartmann research project as well as a showcase for other use cases.

鈥淲e started this project together with 51风流from scratch, with a mere vision of supporting the fight against the coronavirus,鈥 Alexandra Fibitz, project lead at Paul Hartmann AG, stated. 鈥淚t is amazing to see the effort and engagement the project team has invested and how much we have reached in this limited time frame.
