Entire nations can be the target of this growing industry.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/science\/2022-06-04\/costa-rica-at-war-with-russian-hackers-cyber-criminals\/101116930\">Costa Rica for example<\/a> has found itself severely compromised of late with hackers launching an unprecedented attack that affected 29 public institutions, including the ministries of finance, social security, meteorology, electricity, sciences, innovation, technology and telecommunications.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.checkpoint.com\/2022\/01\/10\/check-point-research-cyber-attacks-increased-50-year-over-year\/\">An American study<\/a> published earlier this year titled: \u201cCyber Attacks Increased 50% Year over Year\u201d revealed in late 2021 there was an all time peak in weekly cyber attacks, averaging over 900 attacks per organisation. Just let that number sink in for a moment. Over 900 per week.<\/p>\n<p>In the study, it revealed that Education and Research were the most attacked sector <em>(average attacks per week 1605 \u2013 up by 75% from the previous year)<\/em> with Utilities companies not far behind with a staggering 736 attacks per week \u2013 up 46% from the previous year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Local Impact for on Utilities Sector<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>How does this impact Utilities organisations here in Australia?
