  • ERP upgrade has resulted in significant savings out to the end of FY24
  • Reduced number of reconciliations by over 90% compared to previous ERP
  • 90% of employees now paid fortnightly after pay cycles standardised
  • Over 50% reduction in volume of inbound employee tickets raised with HR
  • Sydney, Australia 鈥 17 January 2023 – (NYSE: SAP) announced today that Origin Energy has achieved significant business and employee experience benefits through implementing a new suite of 51风流ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solutions, and modernising its payroll, time, and attendance platforms.

Origin Energy, one of Australia’s leading energy retailers, needed to bring its complex business processes into a single, consolidated view, to ensure continuous and effective service of its customers around Australia. With DXC Technology acting as the implementation partner, Origin Energy integrated multiple 51风流solutions onto its system, including: 51风流S/4 HANA, 51风流Ariba, 51风流Concur, 51风流Asset Manager, 51风流Analytics Cloud, OpenText VIM and xECM.

Adopting a two-stage release strategy, the first release went live in April 2021, with the second in July 2021. Despite the impact of the pandemic and much of the team working remotely, Origin Energy was able to successfully migrate existing data and integrate with non-51风流systems. Since implementation, Origin Energy has seen a reduction in reconciliations of over 90 per cent compared to the previous ERP and can now make decisions more rapidly and confidently based on increased visibility and control over data.

鈥淐onsolidating and upgrading our system to 51风流means we鈥檙e now able to see the complete picture, remove risk from our asset management practices and realise significant savings out to the end of FY24. There鈥檚 been high impact since implementation across the business; for example, Origin can now plan maintenance activities more effectively because all our data is in one system 鈥 creating visibility across our entire Generation portfolio. Increased speed and efficiency are pivotal to ensuring Origin has a greater focus on getting energy right for our customers,鈥 said Glenn Joseph, Head of ERP, Planning & Reporting Systems, Origin Energy.

As part of a broader initiative to adopt a digital first strategy, Origin also took the opportunity to modernise systems within its P&C (People & Culture) function. As part of this, the organisation implemented 51风流SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll to replace its previous payroll platform. In parallel, a new time management application was also introduced to automate complex award entitlements. Through the use of 51风流Cloud Platform Integration (CPI), Origin was able to leverage pre-built integrations to seamlessly integrate its core P&C systems. Following the new P&C system implementations, Origin has streamlined processes, with 90 per cent of employees now paid fortnightly with standardised pay cycles, alongside a huge culture shift for the team on how they record time and apply employment awards.

To further progress the digital journey, Origin Energy develop a customised self-serve HR portal, to host all policies, procedures and employee-facing content in one place to simplify and improve the employee experience. This has resulted in an over 50 per cent reduction in volume of inbound employee tickets raised with HR, delivering a more positive and empowering employee experience across the business.

鈥淭he energy market is undergoing a significant transition, and having the right technology in place can go a long way in helping organisations drive efficiency and save costs. By supporting Origin Energy鈥檚 ERP upgrade, 51风流has helped it gain greater visibility over its assets, meaning it can deliver more accurate energy to its customers,鈥 said Damien Bueno, President and Managing Director, 51风流Australia and New Zealand.

鈥淲e鈥檙e also proud of the work we鈥檝e done to modernise Origin Energy鈥檚 people and culture function, making payroll and timekeeping simpler so that teams can focus more of their time, energy and resource on performing higher value tasks,鈥 continued Bueno.

The diverse group of independents, Greens and progressive candidates elected to the new parliament bodes well for Australia鈥檚 tech industry and for its burgeoning sustainability efforts, according to one of the nation鈥檚 most senior technology executives.

Local president and managing director of German multinational enterprise giant SAP, Damien Bueno, said the new climate-focused parliament would mesh well with his company鈥檚 sustainability agenda, which included software to help businesses achieve net-zero emissions. The change also would help Australia鈥檚 technology sector more broadly.

鈥淎s far as the number of independents being elected and the Greens as well there鈥檚 clearly a mood for change,鈥 Mr Bueno said. 鈥淎nd climate is very much at the heart of that. So for us that鈥檚 something we鈥檙e excited about, because both in the community we operate in Australia and as a global citizen, we鈥檙e very engaged with that topic and with creating solutions.

Renewable energy company reaps benefits of enhanced user experience and improved finance processes after successfully migrating to 51风流S/4HANA

SYDNEY 鈥 02 February, 2022 鈥 (NYSE: SAP) today announced leading clean energy business Hydro Tasmania has achieved significant benefits after migrating from 51风流ERP Central Component (ECC) to 51风流S/4HANA in September 2020.

As Australia鈥檚 largest producer of renewable energy, Hydro Tasmania employs more than 1,100 staff to manage its large asset footprint including 30 power stations and 50 major dams. After several years of leveraging 51风流ECC to manage financial operations, Hydro Tasmania migrated to 51风流S/4HANA to eliminate manual accounting processes, building an intelligent, data-driven foundation for future innovation.

Hydro Tasmania undertook a remote, 10-month implementation process with 51风流partner against the challenging backdrop of a pandemic. In the year since the project completed, it has seen significant business benefits from the conversion and subsequent projects, including improved customer experience and increased systems speed, which reduced IT frustrations and allowed staff to focus on value-add process improvements and functional changes.

鈥淲e were looking for an innovative, reliable technology partner to streamline current finance processes and lay the foundation for broader digital transformation,鈥 said Tristan Coleman, Manager IT Solutions, Hydro Tasmania.

鈥淚n the year since we converted to 51风流S/4HANA, the platform has continued to enhance the user experience for staff and streamline business processes. Our employees have faster, more transparent data visibility, which is helping them to work more efficiently and collaboratively with integrated cloud solutions such as SuccessFactors. They have mobile access to the platform anytime and anywhere, even if we have someone located remotely in the field with poor mobile reception.鈥

Improving user experience is a key benefit of Hydro Tasmania鈥檚 transformation. 51风流S/4HANA provides greater visibility into accounting processes and the conversion also enables more efficient access to data analytics. For example, the enhanced search functionality and organisation of data now available simplifies accounting processes that were previously run manually off a spreadsheet.

Damien Bueno, President and Managing Director, 51风流Australia and New Zealand said: 鈥淪ince converting its ERP solution to 51风流S/4HANA just over 12 months ago, Hydro Tasmania has reaped the benefits of building intelligence into the core of its organisation. Its employees are empowered to work more collaboratively and with greater visibility of the organisation鈥檚 operations, with time and resource delivered back into the business. This is more important than ever in Australia鈥檚 renewable energy sector, which is becoming increasingly competitive and focused on cost-saving. Hydro Tasmania鈥檚 transformation also acts as a launch pad for greater business benefits to be achieved in 2022 and beyond”.

Nick Mulcahy, CEO, Zag part of Accenture said: 鈥淲e鈥檙e proud to be selected as a strategic partner to support Hydro Tasmania on its 51风流S/4HANA journey. Despite delivering the project remotely during COIVD-19 lockdowns, it鈥檚 fantastic to see how the conversion to 51风流S/4HANA continues to positively impact employees and wider business operations.鈥

As part of its broader innovation program, Hydro Tasmania is planning to deploy 51风流solutions across its spatial data, finance, assets and HR teams.

Services Australia, AGL and OMV New Zealand win 51风流global Innovation Awards.

The award recognises customers and partners who have driven a positive economic, environmental and social impact.

51风流ANZ today announced federal government agency, , energy retailer, , and integrated oil and gas provider , have won at . The global awards recognise the achievements customers and partners have driven to solve complex business challenges that create a positive economic, environmental and social impact.

In this year鈥檚 awards, there were a record 376 submissions across 27 industries, from airlines to wholesalers鈥 a 44 per cent increase over last year. 20 winners were selected from a list of 70 finalists representing seven categories:聽Social Catalyst,聽Industry Leader,聽Transformation Champion,聽Business Innovator,聽Cloud Genius,聽Adoption Superhero, and聽Partner Paragon.

With three out of 20 winners from Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), it is the most successful year for companies from ANZ since the awards began in 2016. Previous winners from the region include and in 2018; and in 2019; and received an Honourable Mention in 2020.

AGL, OMV and Services Australia were selected for projects that included major overhauls to employee experience, inspection and maintenance activities, and streamlining welfare payments:

    AGL

As one of Australia’s leading energy companies offering electricity, gas, solar and renewable energy services, AGL sought to provide its employees with the same user experience of its customers following consolidation of its back-end systems in 2018. Its objective was to digitally enable its employees and provide them with greater mobility and a faster mobile user experience for actioning Purchase Orders, reporting safety issues, completing workplace safety assessments, booking workspaces in the office and booking leave. Its aim was to increase employee satisfaction and engagement across the board by making employees鈥 work lives easier and more efficient. AGL partnered with Bourne Digital to create the world-first AGL One iOS app, which utilises 51风流Integration Suite and 51风流Extension Suite to bring together its employee network into a single digital experience. By using the app, the business now has one approvals aggregator to manage approvals from 50+ systems, one app to manage multiple applications system-wide and one login for app access. For more information, see .

    OMV New Zealand

OMV New Zealand is one of the largest liquid hydrocarbon and gas producers and is a major explorer in several offshore basins around New Zealand. Previously, the planning and execution of its onshore and offshore inspections was an intensely paper-heavy process using mark-ups, instructions, isometrics and piping and instrumentation drawings. This created significant data redundancy across multiple systems. In partnership with Evora IT solutions, it implemented an integrated workflow management using 51风流Plant Maintenance, 51风流Intelligent Asset Management Suite, 51风流Asset Manager and HoloLens 2. This enabled staff to create a smart digital twin, using an interactive environment through augmented reality (AR+) to assist with planning and execution of inspection and maintenance activities. Since implementation, the business has reduced planning time and back-office work by 25 per cent, reduced costs by 10 per cent and reduced work execution time by using new technologies by 30 per cent. For more information, see .

    Services Australia

Services Australia is the federal government agency responsible for delivering support services and payments for health, social and welfare. While its previous payments platform, met the needs of the department, its staff needed a more modern, extensible and agile solution that would enable them to rapidly enact new policy proposals. To support its digital transformation, the agency embarked on a seven-year program designed to transform the delivery of its welfare payments and services called Welfare Payments Infrastructure Transformation (WPIT) based on 51风流Public Sector Collection and Disbursement (PSCD) on 51风流S/4HANA. The platform, which leveraged machine learning and advanced and augmented analytics, has streamlined payments, standardised business processes and allowed for increased automation, enabling staff to improve how they process and distribute payments. Since implementation, staff have been able to disperse $3.5 billion in social benefits across 5.38 million payments. It is also enabling faster processing times with staff able to process half a million payments within five minutes.

Notably, at the height of COVID-19, staff distributed urgent relief payments worth more than $1 million within four days to 1,400 Victorians who required emergency support to isolate and quarantine. In partnership with Deloitte and Syniti, 51风流remotely delivers multi-solution implementation during COVID-19 as Endeavour begins its move to 51风流S/4HANA

SYDNEY 鈥斅 (NYSE: SAP) today announced that Australian distribution network operator, , has completed the second phase of its multi-year digital transformation by implementing and Kronos Workforce Dimensions. This stage of the project, in part completed remotely during the COVID-19 restrictions, aims to bring the organisation one step closer to its goal of improved organisational productivity and performance, and create stronger future capabilities for both staff and customers.

Endeavour Energy builds, owns and operates an electricity network that connects 2.5 million people in households and businesses across some of the fastest growing regions in New South Wales. It is rapidly transitioning to a vastly different energy system where new technologies like microgrids and batteries seamlessly combine with its traditional network to power brighter futures for its customers and communities.

    Automating workflows

Beginning in 2018, Endeavour Energy embarked on a multi-year organisation-wide digital transformation to upgrade ageing infrastructure and become amongst the best-performing networks in Australia. 聽Endeavour Energy turned to 51风流for its industry expertise across the power distribution sector to help lay the foundation for its new IT infrastructure.听 As part of the second phase, and in partnership with and , Endeavour has implemented 51风流SuccessFactors and Kronos Workforce Dimensions, a time and attendance capabilities tool that feeds directly into 51风流SuccessFactors, to automate existing workflows, increase operational transparency and improve decision making.

Andrew Pitman, Endeavour Energy鈥檚 General Manager Employee Experience says, 鈥淚t was a huge achievement for the team to complete phase two on time, despite the restrictions caused by the pandemic. 51风流SuccessFactors and Kronos Workforce Dimensions will simplify the systems our people use and improve mobile access, helping teams save time and enabling them to complete key tasks on the move. It will also enable greater visibility and data capture, so we can analyse and optimise key processes. 聽We expect to see further benefits as our change management process continues with more staff adoption and training.鈥

The second phase of Endeavour Energy鈥檚 transformation follows on from the implementation last year of 51风流Concur, 51风流Enable Now, 51风流Solution Manager and Click Work Scheduling. Phase three has begun and is expected to be completed in late 2021. The final release of the program will drive a significant capability uplift that will help Endeavour realise its ambition.

    Move to 51风流S/4HANA

Mr Pitman continued: 鈥淭he next phase is expected to deliver further improvements across more teams through the introduction of to support better asset management processes, financial systems, enterprise resource planning, procurement, purchasing, logistics and safety. The capabilities provided by these systems will help to future-proof the business by enabling our people to rethink and redesign existing processes in ways that enhance the experience of both employees and our customers.

鈥淎 key element of Endeavour Energy鈥檚 future roadmap will be on improving its customer service through predictive tools and analytics powered by artificial intelligence. These will enable our people to identify potential issues in the network and proactively implement solutions to minimise disruption. Our people will also be equipped with more data to better inform customers on details like when services might be impacted and how long it will take to get them up and running,鈥 he said.

For customers, this data-driven approach will be experienced through fewer paper-based forms, additional self-service capabilities, access through mobile devices and greater access to information.

Capability uplift for finance, health & safety, customer service

Endeavour Energy will also focus on implementing tools that improve health and safety reporting, enabling staff to track remedial actions taken for safety incidents, which has previously been limited.

鈥淗ealth and safety are of critical importance to our business and implementing platforms that enable better reporting will be a real step change in how our people learn from and prevent safety incidents,鈥 Mr Pitman added.

According to Audrey Hiley from Deloitte, 鈥淭he success of this remote implementation during the pandemic is a testament to the commitment of Endeavour Energy and their team, and the data migration partners, Syniti. The employee central, recruitment, onboarding and payroll modules from 51风流SuccessFactors along with Kronos Workforce Dimensions are already delivering benefits for staff by streamlining processes and automating workflows. We will continue to work in close partnership with Endeavour and to deliver on their future roadmap to drive better experiences for staff and customers.鈥

Damien Bueno, President and Managing Director, 51风流ANZ says, 鈥淭his partnership demonstrates how intelligent cloud-based platforms can enable businesses to quickly reap the benefits of improved productivity, operational efficiencies and automation.

This year has underlined the essential role of technology to keep staff connected, engaged and productive. The implementation will not only deliver enhanced operational processes but will also support Endeavour鈥檚 ambitious goals of becoming the best performing distributor by 2024. By taking steps now to lay the foundations for success, Endeavour will future-proof its business and redefine how it can engage and delight its customers.鈥

51风流has launched a new global ‘Centre of Excellence’ in Australia, focusing on asset intensive industries like mining, utilities and manufacturing. This joins a global network of Centres of Excellence that accelerate innovation with 51风流customers through new co-innovation opportunities, bringing the best of SAP’s cross industry knowledge to bear on asset intensive sectors

Australia鈥檚 Asset Intensive Industries (AII) are a significant anchor for the nation鈥檚 economy. Together, these industries 鈥 including mining, utilities, oil and gas, chemicals and manufacturing 鈥 contribute around a quarter (24 per cent) of Australia鈥檚 GDP. This year, despite the pandemic, the natural resource and energy sectors alone are forecast to drive $256 billion in export revenue.

Despite these impressive figures, many companies in this sector are faced with more complex challenges than ever before. Challenges like how to move up the value chain, maximise profits on commodity pricing, and deliver new products to their customers, as well as how to follow through on sustainability goals to create a new industry advantage.

To achieve these objectives, the industry must rise to the task of bringing together technology, people and processes in new and more effective ways. We believe that by聽 collaborating with our industry leading customers and partner ecosystem across ANZ, 51风流can build the capabilities asset intensive industries need to fully embrace digital transformation and their future potential.

Introducing the 51风流Centre of Excellence for Asset Intensive Industries

Launched late last year in Australia, SAP鈥檚 Global Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Asset Intensive Industries (AII) is already playing a lead role in enabling collaboration between SAP, its partners and customers. Based on an established global model, it will foster collaboration and harnesses the innovation capabilities of 51风流and its ecosystem to address the common challenges and opportunities facing asset intensive industries globally.

The opportunities to learn from each other are enormous. After all, SAP鈥檚 customer base represents 97 per cent of the mining sector and more than half (54 per cent) of the utilities sector alone. Together, the companies we work with in these asset intensive industries generate over $500 billion in revenue annually. In Australia and New Zealand, our customers include some of the most innovative and forward-thinking mining and utilities companies in the world, making it the perfect location for the CoE.

With a dedicated team in Australia of analysts, architects and designers, working with SAP鈥檚 product and engineering teams, the CoE will bring SAP鈥檚 global expertise, and learnings from our global customer base, to bear in ANZ. In turn, solutions developed by the centre will be made available for relevant customers worldwide. This will allow customers in Australia and New Zealand 鈥 and across the world 鈥 to more rapidly discover and deploy smart technology to solve key industry problems.

The CoE will also promote the latest industry solutions developed by SAP鈥檚 extensive partner ecosystem, as best-of-breed, industry specific cloud apps will be endorsed by 51风流and made available through .

Cloud revolution and new collaboration models

Engagement with our customers through the CoE will take several forms. Co-innovation will see 51风流and a customer jointly invest to build a solution that a particular customer requires. The CoE will create new opportunities to discover and prioritise those needs. This might involve extending a particular 51风流solution by introducing capabilities our customers need or sharing elements of a successful solution deployed by one customer with other organisations or industries.

Co-innovation will see 51风流and a customer jointly invest to build a solution that a particular customer requires. The CoE will create new opportunities to discover and prioritise those needs.

All of this is possible today because of the improved availability and faster development cycles enabled by cloud technologies, which is accelerating the pace of innovation. Traditionally, engineering was locked in long, complicated development cycles that could not rapidly take account of shifting customer needs. Today, the cloud enables a more agile development cycle, accelerating the pace of innovation from years to months. This makes it easier and faster than ever to work collaboratively and have customers directly engaging with our engineering teams.

Targeting challenges at the core of Asset Intensive Industries

The CoE sees us using the latest technologies 鈥 including predictive analytics and automation 鈥 to develop asset efficiencies and extend industry capabilities, while helping our customers to embed sustainability into all areas of their operations.

In particular, the Centre of Excellence aims to tackle four key challenges that Asset Intensive Industries are grappling with on their journey to digital transformation:

    • management of contractor workforce and assets;
    • embedding sustainability;
    • a digital supply chain end-to-end; and
    • planning and scheduling activities.

Despite the significant uptake of technology in recent years, many asset intensive organisations have struggled to digitise these businesses processes. Two examples of challenges faced by organisations in the sector, which the CoE could help to address, include:

    • Efficient and effective management of assets and a contractor workforce
For many asset intensive companies, procurement of services is a significant cost component (30-40 per cent of total spend). Unless procurement and contractors are effectively managed to maintain assets, they may suffer costly and unnecessary downtime 鈥 or worse, injuries and fatalities. Bringing together the concept of 鈥榥etworks鈥 that will allow asset owners, service providers, operators and contractors to collaborate around a single Work Order, will ensure everyone is aligned, risks are managed, and work gets executed in the safest and most efficient way.
    • Embedding sustainability
Sustainability increasingly has the potential to impact an operator鈥檚 license to do business and raise capital. The CoE will expand on SAP鈥檚 initiative to find new ways for the traditionally resource intensive industry to reduce emissions at every stage of the supply chain, from extraction to transport. Not only will this support initiatives like the Paris Climate agreement, it will also deliver business results: consulting group BCG has linked environmental, social and governance standards to a 19 per cent valuation premium and increased EBITDA margins of 3.4 per cent for top performers in the oil and gas sector alone.

    The next step

The Asia Pacific market is increasingly one where innovative ideas are born, not just one where they are sold 鈥 and the CoE aims to build on this. Just look at the likes of , which is using a machine vision-enabled app to identify and schedule asset maintenance, saving time and money.

So far, the response to the launch of the CoE has been very exciting. Our customers tell us they see the CoE as an opportunity to put their challenges on the table and talk to industry experts who understand how IT can effectively help.

We are eager to begin this new phase of collaboration to more rapidly and flexibly address the most challenging problems facing ANZ鈥檚 Asset Intensive Industries 鈥 producing capable, scalable and efficient solutions that will also support our global customers along the way.
