Ballance, in partnership with SAP, set an ambitious target to move to 51风流RISE and Commerce Cloud to leverage the latest technology and simplify the customer journeys through the 51风流and MyBallance platforms. Getting the timing right was essential, Ballance wanted to offer new innovations and on farm geospatial services to farmers.

Auckland, New Zealand 20 September 2022 New Zealand farmer-owned co-operative Ballance Agri-Nutrients (Ballance) has successfully completed the first phase of a multi-year cloud program, migrating to 51风流cloud solutions, 51风流S/4HANA Cloud and 51风流Business Technology Platform on Amazon Web Services (AWS), to deliver greater business value to its farmers.

The migration was achieved in just five months, to avoid running into peak farming season and prevent delays to Ballance鈥檚 customer facing geospatial initiatives, and went live over a single weekend in March 2022.

By moving to 51风流S/4HANA Cloud private edition and 51风流Business Technology Platform onto AWS in the first phase of its transformation, Ballance has established a stabilised core and solid foundation in the AWS cloud to drive and support future strategic deliveries, where it looks to further leverage the 51风流and AWS platforms to enhance its overall customer experience and digital offerings.

Ballance decision to engage 51风流and Amazon Web Services (AWS), and to partner with SAP鈥檚 Cloud Success Services to manage the availability, performance and maintenance of its cloud infrastructure has allowed Ballance to reduce demand on internal resources by 10 per cent, shifting its focus from delivering operational support and maintenance to driving value through on-farm digital services for its customers.

David Healy, Chief Digital Officer at Ballance, said, 鈥淲e selected 51风流and AWS as partners because of their deep knowledge and history of migrating existing 51风流environments into the cloud and their focus and alignment to enabling Ballance鈥檚 future geospatial and on-farm application initiatives. They understood the urgency and importance of this phase and created a seamless and rapid transition for us.鈥

鈥淲e had initial concerns around performance, shifting from architecture hosted in New Zealand to the cloud hosted in Australia, however the performance is much more consistent and stable, and more importantly we now have the ability to scale when required during our seasonal peaks which is critical for us. Knowing that there is a team dedicated to looking after the environment, managing security, availability and maintenance has really allowed us to focus on delivering value to our customers.鈥

Ballance has been running 51风流since 2009 and saw an opportunity to use the technology more effectively.

鈥淭he way I put it, is we had a Rolls Royce in the garage, but we were not servicing and maintaining it. Everything was just in time, and we were always lagging on updates and as a result other work and deliverables. The service and maintenance alone have been a huge improvement, especially for security, stability and time for us, the stats speak for themselves 鈥 10 per cent reduction in FTE managing their core 51风流environment, 20 per cent reduction in 51风流support and maintenance, 70 per cent reduction in workload managing hardware and resource upgrades and 99.9 per cent availability of 51风流production environment鈥. said David.

Key to the success of the project has been Ballance鈥檚 partnership with 51风流from the executive level through to the project team, which created an open, transparent environment for problem solving. It became a joint project dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition. The deep product knowledge of the 51风流team resulted in faster resolution of any technical issues.

Phil听Cameron, Chief Operating Officer, 51风流Australia and New Zealand, said,听鈥淏allance听Agri-Nutrients鈥 migration to 51风流cloud solutions, achieved in just five months, is evidence of the value RISE with 51风流is delivering to customers. By moving to the cloud,听Ballance听is able to spend more time and resource on driving greater value for its customers, rather than on keeping its systems running. We鈥檙e incredibly proud of our partnership and of how 51风流technology is supporting听Ballance听to achieve its ambition of helping farmers work more productively, profitably, and sustainably鈥.

Scene set for Phase II

The second phase of the program started in June 22 and focusses on enhancing Ballance’s existing 51风流Customer Experience Solutions, which power its farmer platform, MyBallance. The customer-facing platform will be moved to 51风流Commerce Cloud, which will enable Ballance to deliver more personalised geospatial experiences, products, and services to New Zealand farmers.

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated demand for cloud technologies as the private and public sectors rushed to update the delivery of urgent services and ensure continuity.

A suggests cloud spending will exceed $10 billion in Australia this year. But the government鈥檚 cloud security guidelines need to go further in overcoming barriers and drive further uptake of cloud technologies. Advancing our digital economy is a central focus of the 2021-22 federal budget, so the government has a huge opportunity to demystify cloud services.

The Australian Cyber Security Centre and the Digital Transformation Agency released last year. Their purpose is to better inform organisations, cloud service providers (CSPs) and Information Security Registered Assessors Program assessors about carrying out comprehensive risk-based assessments of CSPs and services.

The federal government is also piloting cyber hubs to share cyber services and security expertise across Home Affairs, Defence and Services Australia. This is a real step forward and something we need to see more of, as a successful pilot would create a blueprint for wider adoption. It鈥檚 pleasing to see from the Australian Signals Directorate and Digital Transformation Agency suggesting an extension to non-corporate Commonwealth entities.

The guidelines and cyber hubs are an important step in improving engagement with cloud services, but there is still much to be done in educating its agencies and the broader community about the advantages of cloud technologies. There are several critical issues with the existing guidelines 鈥 assessment is expensive and slow, contractual controls for risk mitigation can be improved, as can overall agency understanding of and consequent adoption of Software as a Service (SaaS) cloud solutions.

Change is needed to overcome these issues, including a shift to continuous risk management underpinned by a whole-of-government risk management framework, the management of certifications across agencies, and encouraging government and community take-up of SaaS to improve cybersecurity defences.

Canberra, Australia听鈥斕听(NYSE: SAP) today announced听51风流Critical Data Cloud, a fully managed service capable of powering the operations of government and regulated industries across both Australia and New Zealand

This is designed to help protect the core business applications of governments and highly regulated industries including financial services, healthcare and utilities. Services Australia, AGL and OMV New Zealand win 51风流global Innovation Awards.

The award recognises customers and partners who have driven a positive economic, environmental and social impact.

51风流ANZ today announced federal government agency, , energy retailer, , and integrated oil and gas provider , have won at . The global awards recognise the achievements customers and partners have driven to solve complex business challenges that create a positive economic, environmental and social impact.

In this year鈥檚 awards, there were a record 376 submissions across 27 industries, from airlines to wholesalers鈥 a 44 per cent increase over last year. 20 winners were selected from a list of 70 finalists representing seven categories:听Social Catalyst,听Industry Leader,听Transformation Champion,听Business Innovator,听Cloud Genius,听Adoption Superhero, and听Partner Paragon.

With three out of 20 winners from Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), it is the most successful year for companies from ANZ since the awards began in 2016. Previous winners from the region include and in 2018; and in 2019; and received an Honourable Mention in 2020.

AGL, OMV and Services Australia were selected for projects that included major overhauls to employee experience, inspection and maintenance activities, and streamlining welfare payments:

AGL

As one of Australia’s leading energy companies offering electricity, gas, solar and renewable energy services, AGL sought to provide its employees with the same user experience of its customers following consolidation of its back-end systems in 2018. Its objective was to digitally enable its employees and provide them with greater mobility and a faster mobile user experience for actioning Purchase Orders, reporting safety issues, completing workplace safety assessments, booking workspaces in the office and booking leave. Its aim was to increase employee satisfaction and engagement across the board by making employees鈥 work lives easier and more efficient. AGL partnered with Bourne Digital to create the world-first AGL One iOS app, which utilises 51风流Integration Suite and 51风流Extension Suite to bring together its employee network into a single digital experience. By using the app, the business now has one approvals aggregator to manage approvals from 50+ systems, one app to manage multiple applications system-wide and one login for app access. For more information, see .

OMV New Zealand

OMV New Zealand is one of the largest liquid hydrocarbon and gas producers and is a major explorer in several offshore basins around New Zealand. Previously, the planning and execution of its onshore and offshore inspections was an intensely paper-heavy process using mark-ups, instructions, isometrics and piping and instrumentation drawings. This created significant data redundancy across multiple systems. In partnership with Evora IT solutions, it implemented an integrated workflow management using 51风流Plant Maintenance, 51风流Intelligent Asset Management Suite, 51风流Asset Manager and HoloLens 2. This enabled staff to create a smart digital twin, using an interactive environment through augmented reality (AR+) to assist with planning and execution of inspection and maintenance activities. Since implementation, the business has reduced planning time and back-office work by 25 per cent, reduced costs by 10 per cent and reduced work execution time by using new technologies by 30 per cent. For more information, see .

Services Australia

Services Australia is the federal government agency responsible for delivering support services and payments for health, social and welfare. While its previous payments platform, met the needs of the department, its staff needed a more modern, extensible and agile solution that would enable them to rapidly enact new policy proposals. To support its digital transformation, the agency embarked on a seven-year program designed to transform the delivery of its welfare payments and services called Welfare Payments Infrastructure Transformation (WPIT) based on 51风流Public Sector Collection and Disbursement (PSCD) on 51风流S/4HANA. The platform, which leveraged machine learning and advanced and augmented analytics, has streamlined payments, standardised business processes and allowed for increased automation, enabling staff to improve how they process and distribute payments. Since implementation, staff have been able to disperse $3.5 billion in social benefits across 5.38 million payments. It is also enabling faster processing times with staff able to process half a million payments within five minutes.

Notably, at the height of COVID-19, staff distributed urgent relief payments worth more than $1 million within four days to 1,400 Victorians who required emergency support to isolate and quarantine. It also distributed more than $1.2 million in one-off stimulus payments to 5,000 people experiencing hardship in the Australian Capital Territory. For more information, see .

Damien Bueno, President and Managing Director 51风流ANZ says, 鈥淭hese awards recognise the remarkable achievements of our customers and partners who are solving complex business challenges to drive improved business outcomes and better experiences for employees and customers 鈥 a big congratulations to AGL, OMV NZ and Services Australia. The ingenuity, teamwork and innovation reflected by the winners of this year鈥檚 awards demonstrates the positive impact of technology in not only improving people鈥檚 lives but revolutionising how we work across many industries. We would like to thank all our customers who participated in this year鈥檚 competition鈥

鈥淚t鈥檚 fantastic to see so many organisations from our region represented in the global awards, which underlines that Australian and Kiwi companies punch above their weight when it comes to using innovative technologies to solve business problems.鈥

]]>
I was surprised to read in听The Australian Financial Review听last month that 鈥,鈥 in a column that suggested our recently announced global strategy update would require ASX 200 boards to 鈥渉ave a conversation about software risk management鈥.

It recommended 鈥渟ound risk analysis of whether or not the alternatives 鈥 are cheaper and carry less operational risk鈥.

It was surprising because 51风流already operates a cloud-first business in Australia, a strategy that is driven by customer demand. It was first听听two years ago that our local cloud revenues exceeded those of on-premise software.

This trend has gathered momentum, to the point where cloud now accounts for 70 per cent of those revenues. So although we announced an accelerated cloud strategy in our global third-quarter earnings at the end of October, this is clearly not a pandemic-inspired pivot.

These large organisations are investing many millions of dollars in 51风流and other cloud technologies to help them operate successfully in an increasingly digital world, and boards are deeply involved in decisions of this scale.

To suggest they are approving major technology projects without conducting sound risk analysis does them a disservice.

We鈥檙e seeing businesses across markets and industry sectors accelerate their move to the cloud to improve the agility and resilience of their operations. And this trend has continued despite the difficult economic conditions presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. The forward-thinking done by customers during recent years has enabled the digital delivery of many services during the crisis.

Many of Australia鈥檚 largest organisations have already moved to 51风流cloud solutions and technologies. As reported recently,听.

Coles also made the strategic decision to adopt 51风流cloud technologies in 2018. It is currently moving its human resources to the cloud and already runs core operations in the cloud including finance on Microsoft Azure and procurement in the 51风流cloud.

Our cloud solutions and technologies are also used by major financial institutions, government departments, utilities, mining organisations and the biggest companies in many other industries.

Synergy Research estimates that global spending on cloud infrastructure was up by one-third year on year to almost $US33 billion ($45.3 billion) in the three months ended 30 September. 51风流is the world鈥檚 second-largest cloud application vendor and we鈥檙e growing fast.

In this context, I also take issue with the columnist鈥檚 suggestion last month that SAP’s downgrading of future profit margins was 鈥渢he most worrying aspect of the announcement鈥.

It is true that profit margins will change as our business becomes more cloud-based, but it is also true that we can鈥檛 secure the future of the company, and meet our customers cloud demands, by focusing on short-term profit maximisation.

51风流and our customers will continue to measure success in terms of the value we create. This means focusing on what our customers want from us, not what some in the financial markets would like to see us do.

Despite the sharemarket鈥檚 negative reaction to our global update, it is the right long-term strategy for delivering sustainable results to our customers, partners and shareholders. Confidence in our global cloud strategy based on growing customer demand has seen us increase global cloud revenue guidance from 鈧15 billion ($24.4 billion) in 2023 to 鈧22 billion in 2025.

This strategy has since been validated by Deutsche Bank, which issued a report offering fundamental support based on the current position of our company, competition and customers.

Its report noted that 鈥渇ew management teams of established companies are bold enough to accelerate the disruption of their profitable 鈥榣egacy鈥 business model, sacrificing short-term profitability for long-term gains鈥.

We鈥檝e already made significant investments to transition our Australian operations into a cloud-first business. Although there is powerful momentum behind this acceleration, let鈥檚 remember that these decisions ultimately remain in the hands of our customers.

A large and growing number of these customers are moving to the cloud and I have every reason to feel confident that they will continue to run their businesses on SAP, whatever other technology decisions they make.

We are living in an ever faster-changing world. From the cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) to blockchain and the Internet of Things (IoT), new digital technologies are changing how we live and work.

Digital transformation was a line item on many business agendas long before听COVID-19, but the pandemic catapulted it to the top of the priority list for virtually every organisation in the world. In the blink of an eye, COVID-19 has significantly disrupted working practices, making it imperative for businesses to react quickly to changing market demands and make informed decisions based on real-time data.

Regardless of the size or industry of an enterprise, in the digital age you need to run your enterprise seamlessly across the value chain. But many of our customers have expanded their IT landscapes over the last few decades by buying point solutions to solve specific business needs. This has resulted in fragmented stacks, poorly integrated software, disconnected duplicate master data, and an inconsistent user experience (UX) 鈥 all of which both frustrate users and slow down innovation.

To turn data into meaningful insight, enterprises need to integrate all of their functions and processes based on a harmonised data model, get the complete picture in real time, and make decisions with knowledge of all interdependencies within the organisation. Otherwise, you cannot make use of the billions of data to offer personalised experiences for your customers or manage demand and supply seamlessly in real time.

In February this year, I introduced听, which provides a comprehensive overview of our integration plan in the cloud. It focuses on the significant value customers get from holistic technology and business process integration, SAP-to-SAP, but also to any third-party application in hybrid customer landscapes.

Since then, all teams have been working relentlessly so that we continue to execute on our road map. Out-of-the box integration for our software-as-a-service applications remains key for us. Gartner has just听ranked us a leader in the Magic Quadrant for Multiexperience Development Platforms, and we鈥檙e making excellent progress to deliver a seamless business process integration, including key elements like harmonisation of SAP鈥檚 data domain model, user experience, workflow management, and real-time steering. Currently at 50 percent, we expect to deliver up to 90 percent of these cloud integration suite qualities to our customers by end of this year.

Today, I am happy to announce an update to听.

  • It includes updated timelines for our key processes for the intelligent enterprise 鈥 recruit to retire, lead to cash, design to operate, and source to pay 鈥 along our suite qualities. This provides our customers with a clear road map for their transitions into intelligent enterprises.
  • We enhanced 51风流Cloud Platform Integration Suite, our open and modular iPaaS supporting a comprehensive set of enterprise-wide integration scenarios, with further integration templates. Adding to already more than 1,500 prepackaged integrations and听 over 160 open connectors for 51风流to non-51风流applications, these templates for example include听听or听.
  • Our integration suite offering is completed by听, which helps customers to define and execute an integration strategy for cloud and hybrid landscapes by providing proven integration patterns and architecture blueprints that we have听听in close collaboration with our customers.
  • To guide our customers on their journey to become intelligent enterprises, we also offer integration services 鈥 from strategy and planning through implementing to operating and optimising such an intelligent enterprise.

These are just a few of the highlights. Check out 鈥Progress Report and Updates to SAP鈥檚 Integration Road Map in the Cloud鈥 by my Executive Board colleague Juergen Mueller for all the details.

Businesses are often defined by technological evolutions, the way we harness technology to break barriers and reimagine the way things are done. Technology has become increasingly ubiquitous in our everyday lives, but through COVID-19 we have seen just how important digital transformation is in staying resilient and adapting to change for the better.

To are regarding as a 鈥榥ew normal鈥 means being able to adapt rapidly and anticipate change. Digitalisation plays a key role in helping organisations operate more flexibly and forecast more accurately, even during times of uncertainty.

While COVID-19 has had and continues to have devastating effects on economies and societies globally, both public and private sectors should use the momentum of this event to further accelerate digitalisation plans. Digital transformation has helped supply chains operate more responsively during this crisis, adapting to demand spikes and legislative restrictions that continue to develop quickly.

We saw these sentiments echoed during where Geoff Scott, CEO of ASUG said, 鈥淚f you’re an 51风流customer who wants to grow and accelerate your business, remove inefficiencies, reduce technical debt, and take advantage of the latest capabilities of 51风流software then you .”

Geoff noted that those in the final stages of implementation projects would be doing whatever they can to see completion, but those in early stages may consider pausing to ensure timing and resources align with expectations.

“With the extension [of standard support for Business Suite 7 apps until 2027] now in place, we still believe 51风流customers should move forward as far in advance of any deadline as possible,鈥 Geoff explained.

鈥淭he decision about a company’s ‘ERP of the future’ should not come from an 51风流‘pressure point’ or be based solely on the merits of a technical upgrade to S/4HANA. It should be about how best to prepare a company’s business for the future.”

but also highlighted the need for connection both operationally and communicatively. 51风流S 4/HANA integrates different systems, processes, and organisations onto a single platform, sharing practices and insights to create a data-supported ecosystem, which improves and evolves with people鈥檚 needs while adapting to industry changes.

Unifying these data sets and processes onto a single system ensures consistency in quality and provides complete oversight across organisational structures and business departments. With this comprehensive and holistic control backed by intelligent technologies, businesses can be more flexible, responsive, and forward thinking.

make intelligence more agile compared to on-premises IT infrastructure, helping businesses be more adaptable, cost effective, and efficient. At a time when news changes rapidly and economies face uncertainty, the ability to make decisions quickly and supported by business-data insights is critical. Technology is becoming more intelligent so we can focus on our core competencies and value-adding roles.

With cloud-based ERP, businesses can implement mobile-enabled systems and applications to facilitate more remote workforces 鈥 an especially important need during this global pandemic. The digitalisation of business functions has also promoted mobility, which helps staff and management remain safe, productive, and connected.

Frontline workers can ensure business continuity while management can continue making important decisions on-the-go with the insights they need. 51风流S/4HANA provides added functionality with dashboards and data visualisation, which makes important business information easier to access, read, and action.

Intelligent technologies can support and monitor IoT [internet of things] sensors, which embeds data collection and analytics throughout a product lifecycle, linking all operational and customer touchpoints to unlock best practice, automating processes, and generating insights for future planning.

This level of efficiency has a flow-on effect to customer service, allowing businesses to provide personalisation in products and services. Intelligent technologies can link supply chains with marketing and customer-service channels to improve the connection between brands and consumers. This ensures consistency in delivery, responsive communications, and foresight into market changes.

COVID-19 has accelerated the need for digital preparedness, having more digitally literate workforces and communities while building digital connections across operations and communications to create more intelligent enterprises.

This ongoing pandemic has highlighted the importance of staying informed, connected, and adaptive. The digital technology we鈥檝e been using to communicate is just the tip of a deep digital iceberg that connects across business silos, industries, and country borders to create an intelligent interconnected system that operates seamlessly and evolves with changing needs.

It鈥檚 the responsibility of businesses like 51风流to help organisations 鈥 both public and private 鈥 understand we currently have and plan for an ever-changing future.

51风流New Zealand’s revenue lifted sharply from $123 million in 2018 to $158 million in 2019, an increase of 28 per cent, the company reported over night.

The $35 million increase for the year ended 31 December was supported by improved revenues across all product and service categories.

Software and support revenue increased 19 per cent to $81 million, while services lifted 31 per cent to $46 million.

It was cloud, however, that provided the highest rates of growth, 60 per cent to reach $32 million.

The company also received revenue in the form of a $2.5 million government R&D grant to support innovation in the New Zealand market.

Net profit after tax was $14 million, double that recorded in the previous year.

51风流New Zealand managing director Phil Cameron said the New Zealand business was in good shape and continued to grow:

鈥淭he cloud business has grown significantly over the previous year and we鈥檙e confident we can continue our strong momentum,” he said.

51风流has a wide range of local customers across both the government and private sectors including听Mercury Energy, Frucor Suntory, and Zespri.

“We鈥檙e proud to work with some of New Zealand鈥檚 biggest companies, with digital transformation more important than ever as we deal with unprecedented disruption,” Cameron said.

鈥淥ur revenue from cloud customers exceeds revenue from licensing customers, but we鈥檇 like to do more to help New Zealand businesses run in the cloud, as recent events have demonstrated the benefit of flexible and agile access to critical business information from wherever you are working.鈥

The company’s accounts also confirm an Inland Revenue audit of the New Zealand business for the years 2014 to 2016 is ongoing.

51风流is to embark on a mammoth, multi-year transformation of its 14-year-old partner program that will see it move away from its traditional tiering model.

The German software giant will start rolling out its so-called 鈥楴ext Gen Partnering Model鈥 over 2020, putting competency recognition and 鈥榗ustomer success鈥 at the forefront.

SAP鈥檚 21,000-strong global partner network can expect to see a number of implemented by the end of this calendar year.

Speaking to听ARN, 51风流global partner organisation COO Emer Neville, said the tiers structure is no longer 鈥渁s full forward looking鈥 for today鈥檚 generation of partners.

鈥淲e can’t just classify our partners into one group,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t’s much more than the contribution that they will offer the customers so the benefits will be flexible. And that’s our idea for the evolving program that will be released later this year.鈥

Neville said these benefits will largely centre on partners鈥 鈥渃ustomer success鈥, adding: 鈥淲e鈥檙e not just going to be focusing on indirect revenue as a component which historically we would have focused on. It’s really end-to-end customer success.鈥

51风流was unable to specify measurement metrics for this beyond revenue-sharing for renewals within its Cloud Choice program.

Usual benefits such as marketing and business development funds, alongside rebates, will be on the table, with service partners gaining a bigger share of these funds for delivering projects.

The vendor also plans to roll out its customer 51风流for Me app, a digital automation tool, to partners said it will introduce a 鈥渘ew learning experience鈥 for the channel.

51风流also intends to introduce new schemes to help partners monetise their IP with 51风流through a marketplace dubbed the 鈥楢pp Centre Experience鈥. According to Neville, this will give partners access to 440,000 customers.

In addition, for those transitioning to 51风流S/4HANA, the company will provide reduced test and demo development fees, and intends to increase its number of consultants to help drive migrations.

Neville added that the guiding principles of 鈥渋nnovation, economics and experience鈥 would underpin SAP鈥檚 strategy as it pilots the new measures in certain markets this year.

鈥淭he reality is that the legacy of our ecosystem continues to flourish. And we have a very strong on premise business, but we have a huge emerging demand for cloud and a lot of our existing partners have bridged the transformation,鈥 she added.

鈥淲e have a completely new set of ecosystem partners that are coming in that are expecting immediate focus on the cloud-centric model.鈥

SAP鈥檚 change of direction comes just months after its听, placing cloud and S/4 HANA leads Jennifer Morgan and Christian Klein into the roles of co-leadership.

However, according to Neville, the building blocks of the partner program changes have been in the works for some time.

鈥淲e’ve rebuilt the business,鈥 she said. 鈥淭here’s new leadership within the software partner business, we’ve pretty much rebuilt it from a global perspective.鈥

鈥淲e’ve been working on the plans and the execution with validation from our partners every step of the way.鈥
