Services Australia, AGL and OMV New Zealand win 51风流global Innovation Awards.

The award recognises customers and partners who have driven a positive economic, environmental and social impact.

51风流ANZ today announced federal government agency, , energy retailer, , and integrated oil and gas provider , have won at . The global awards recognise the achievements customers and partners have driven to solve complex business challenges that create a positive economic, environmental and social impact.

In this year鈥檚 awards, there were a record 376 submissions across 27 industries, from airlines to wholesalers鈥 a 44 per cent increase over last year. 20 winners were selected from a list of 70 finalists representing seven categories:听Social Catalyst,听Industry Leader,听Transformation Champion,听Business Innovator,听Cloud Genius,听Adoption Superhero, and听Partner Paragon.

With three out of 20 winners from Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), it is the most successful year for companies from ANZ since the awards began in 2016. Previous winners from the region include and in 2018; and in 2019; and received an Honourable Mention in 2020.

AGL, OMV and Services Australia were selected for projects that included major overhauls to employee experience, inspection and maintenance activities, and streamlining welfare payments:

AGL

As one of Australia’s leading energy companies offering electricity, gas, solar and renewable energy services, AGL sought to provide its employees with the same user experience of its customers following consolidation of its back-end systems in 2018. Its objective was to digitally enable its employees and provide them with greater mobility and a faster mobile user experience for actioning Purchase Orders, reporting safety issues, completing workplace safety assessments, booking workspaces in the office and booking leave. Its aim was to increase employee satisfaction and engagement across the board by making employees鈥 work lives easier and more efficient. AGL partnered with Bourne Digital to create the world-first AGL One iOS app, which utilises 51风流Integration Suite and 51风流Extension Suite to bring together its employee network into a single digital experience. By using the app, the business now has one approvals aggregator to manage approvals from 50+ systems, one app to manage multiple applications system-wide and one login for app access. For more information, see .

OMV New Zealand

OMV New Zealand is one of the largest liquid hydrocarbon and gas producers and is a major explorer in several offshore basins around New Zealand. Previously, the planning and execution of its onshore and offshore inspections was an intensely paper-heavy process using mark-ups, instructions, isometrics and piping and instrumentation drawings. This created significant data redundancy across multiple systems. In partnership with Evora IT solutions, it implemented an integrated workflow management using 51风流Plant Maintenance, 51风流Intelligent Asset Management Suite, 51风流Asset Manager and HoloLens 2. This enabled staff to create a smart digital twin, using an interactive environment through augmented reality (AR+) to assist with planning and execution of inspection and maintenance activities. Since implementation, the business has reduced planning time and back-office work by 25 per cent, reduced costs by 10 per cent and reduced work execution time by using new technologies by 30 per cent. For more information, see .

Services Australia

Services Australia is the federal government agency responsible for delivering support services and payments for health, social and welfare. While its previous payments platform, met the needs of the department, its staff needed a more modern, extensible and agile solution that would enable them to rapidly enact new policy proposals. To support its digital transformation, the agency embarked on a seven-year program designed to transform the delivery of its welfare payments and services called Welfare Payments Infrastructure Transformation (WPIT) based on 51风流Public Sector Collection and Disbursement (PSCD) on 51风流S/4HANA. The platform, which leveraged machine learning and advanced and augmented analytics, has streamlined payments, standardised business processes and allowed for increased automation, enabling staff to improve how they process and distribute payments. Since implementation, staff have been able to disperse $3.5 billion in social benefits across 5.38 million payments. It is also enabling faster processing times with staff able to process half a million payments within five minutes.

Notably, at the height of COVID-19, staff distributed urgent relief payments worth more than $1 million within four days to 1,400 Victorians who required emergency support to isolate and quarantine. It also distributed more than $1.2 million in one-off stimulus payments to 5,000 people experiencing hardship in the Australian Capital Territory. For more information, see .

Damien Bueno, President and Managing Director 51风流ANZ says, 鈥淭hese awards recognise the remarkable achievements of our customers and partners who are solving complex business challenges to drive improved business outcomes and better experiences for employees and customers 鈥 a big congratulations to AGL, OMV NZ and Services Australia. The ingenuity, teamwork and innovation reflected by the winners of this year鈥檚 awards demonstrates the positive impact of technology in not only improving people鈥檚 lives but revolutionising how we work across many industries. We would like to thank all our customers who participated in this year鈥檚 competition鈥

鈥淚t鈥檚 fantastic to see so many organisations from our region represented in the global awards, which underlines that Australian and Kiwi companies punch above their weight when it comes to using innovative technologies to solve business problems.鈥

贬叠贵鈥檚 , a publication developed by HBF dedicated to supporting new Aussie fathers, and CoreData, a research firm, have again joined forces to shine a light on the top 20 workplaces for new dads, with 51风流Australia ranking in the top 20.

The study analysed the largest 500 Australian companies by revenue to identify the workplaces that are leading the way with dad-friendly policies including parental leave, flexible work and other benefits.听The 2020 results showed more companies are offering dads the opportunity to take over as primary carer, which is up by almost 6 per cent since the list was first released in 2018 (17.1%, up from 11.4%).

Debbie Rigger, Head of HR, 51风流Australia and New Zealand, said:

鈥淭he events of this year have underlined the importance of flexible working and maintaining work-life balance, which is especially important for new parents. At SAP, we are always looking at new and innovative ways to provide the best possible employee experience, through new leave policies, support networks, and other benefits.

The recognition is a win for all of us at SAP, because every employee is responsible for building and maintaining our exceptional culture.鈥

Tamma Kirkby, Managing Editor of 贬叠贵鈥檚 Direct Advice for Dads, said:

Australian companies are moving fast to improve parental benefits. The top dad-friendly companies this year have picked up the pace and commitment to gender-neutral policies in their workplace, with nearly half of the companies listed making no distinction between paid parental leave for primary and secondary carers.鈥

that new fathers who take parental leave of more than two weeks develop more confidence as parents, develop closer bonds with their children, better manage work-family balance, and have a better parenting relationship with their partner.

A digital transformation at medical supplies company Device Technologies has saved more than 50,000 hours of administrative time in just one year. Read how tech is making health care smarter, faster and safer.

Just two months after Device Technologies drew up a COVID-19 disaster plan, its business changed dramatically. Demand from hospitals for its usual products 鈥 surgical instruments, orthopaedic implants, robotics and the like 鈥 plummeted as elective surgery was banned.

Adapting at speed

Instead, the company was deluged with orders for ventilators and personal protective equipment. 鈥淲e shifted our business model extremely quickly,鈥 says CEO Michael Trevaskis.

Fortunately, the rapid pivot was simplified by a decision taken three years earlier to transform Australia鈥檚 biggest independent supplier of medical technology into a digital leader in the healthcare sector.

Michelle Stewart, general manager of marketing and digital, headed the project, starting with the supply chain.

Using SAP鈥檚 Customer Experience platform, Device Technologies introduced a surgery booking portal, eliminating the need for phone calls and several data entry steps 鈥 instead allowing surgeons to input into an app what equipment they needed.

Putting patients first

After just one year in operation, the portal has saved more than 50,000 hours of administrative time. As well as reducing the risk of human error, it has freed up more than 100 sales staff across the surgical divisions of Device Technologies, allowing them to spend more time with surgeons improving patient outcomes.

鈥淚t puts patients ahead of paperwork,鈥 says Stewart.

It has also allowed sales staff to input surgery bookings on the go on mobile devices rather than entering data after business hours.

The company鈥檚 next biggest change is an ecommerce platform, giving customers access to a digital catalogue of more than 70,000 products and the ability to track their purchases and deliveries anytime.

Total transparency

鈥淲e鈥檙e inviting them into the business with total transparency,鈥 says Stewart, noting that a trial launch to a small group of customers shows they are three times more likely to research product details through the portal and are logging on outside business hours.

Trevaskis says the digital innovations will allow Device Technologies to continue to expand.

Five years ago, 80 per cent of its customer base was Australian hospitals and doctors. Now, the company supplies equipment to veterinary practices and aged care homes, as well as hospitals across South-East Asia.

鈥淲e couldn鈥檛 do this without technology; it鈥檚 far too labour intensive,鈥 he says. 鈥淗ealth care has to evolve into more digitised services and COVID-19 has fast-tracked this.鈥

Procurement with purpose 鈥 meet the businesses making a difference

51风流Australia has recently announced a new corporate initiative called 5 & 5 by 鈥25, targeting five per cent of its addressable procurement spend with social enterprises and five per cent with diverse businesses by 2025. The initiative aims to inspire organisations around the world to buy more goods and services from purposeful suppliers, making a positive collective impact on society.

Here, we look at one the Australian businesses that will benefit from the pledge.

Muru Office Supplies: Creating new paths for Indigenous Australians

offers more than 20,000 products, including everything from pens and paper through office furniture to cleaning products and kitchen supplies. In short, it stocks just about anything you could need for any office.

Muru means pathway in the traditional language of the Sydney Coastal Region. Mitchell Ross, Founder and CEO of Muru Group, is a proud Bidjigal man from La Perouse who wants to create a pathway for future generations of Indigenous people.

Mitchell took inspiration from the hardships experienced by family and friends in the community and created Muru Office Supplies, a partnership between Muru Group and Complete Office Supplies. It鈥檚 a purpose-driven, community-focused organisation that contributes a percentage of profits to education, employment, health and wellbeing initiatives that support Indigenous communities.

Muru Office Supplies has contributed more than $270,000 to these causes since opening in 2014. These include early childhood education, the revitalisation of native plants and safe spaces for vulnerable women. It is certified by , a non-profit database of more than 2,500 verified Indigenous businesses.

鈥淎s a business听certified by Supply Nation, we have a strong commitment to supporting Indigenous community projects in the areas of education and employment. 51风流has already placed orders with MOS, which will allow our community programs with partners like IndigiGrow and Mudgin-Gal to deliver even greater social impact. We hope this pledge leads to a step-change in how big businesses think about using procurement as a force for good.鈥

The initiative aims to inspire organisations around the world to buy more goods and services from purposeful suppliers, making a positive collective impact on society.

Kua听鈥 World Positive Coffee for Workplaces

https://youtu.be/JH3rO_MBq7A

In mid-2017, two UNSW students found themselves in rural Uganda. Inspired by the energy and passion of the local people, they founded , a world-positive coffee company in Sydney.

With a mission to have a greater handprint than footprint, Kua sources specialty coffee direct from the misty slopes of Mount Elgon, East Africa鈥檚 oldest extinct volcano. They pay the fairest prices on the mountain to farming families who handpick the reddest (and best) coffee cherries.

Every dollar of profit from sales in Australia goes back into the farming community helping them on their journey to climate resilience through native tree planting, designing waterways that improve soil conservation, and providing sustainable incomes through carbon offsetting activities.

Kua also recycles coffee grounds in the belief that your brew shouldn鈥檛 end up in landfill, where it would create harmful carbon emissions. Instead, those grounds are given a second life in community gardens and reuse projects听 across Sydney.

Kua has already made more than 240,000 square kilometres of Ugandan land resilient to climate change, and removed more than 2,300 kilograms of used coffee grounds from landfill. It鈥檚 a brilliant example of the circular economy in action that aligns perfectly with SAP鈥檚 commitment to eliminating single-use plastics.

鈥淥ur coffee allows businesses to embed impact into their every day. Each cup fights climate change, diverts waste from landfill and enhances farmer wellbeing. SAP鈥檚 pledge is a positive step towards helping social enterprises like us make an even greater impact.鈥

The Good Good: Better tea, better world

https://youtu.be/PzFOf7Jrr-4

Your next cup of tea could do so much more than taste good. It could feel good. The fast-growing social enterprise听听sources premium organic tea from responsible plantations and uses 50 per cent of profits to fund education for disadvantaged kids.

Its products are sold in planet-friendly packaging including biodegradable infusers, plastic-free tea bags, recyclable foil pouches, and reusable glass jars to reduce its environmental impact. Seven teas are available including popular varieties like Earl Grey, lemongrass and ginger or peppermint.

It also has three 鈥樷 鈥 Brain Focus, Immune Booster and Stress Buster 鈥 designed to boost wellbeing and performance at work. So it鈥檚 no surprise that some of the biggest Australian corporations are already supplying The Good Good tea. But anyone, anywhere can buy the products too.

Half-owned by women, The Good Good is doing its bit for gender diversity. It also partners with another local social enterprise, the Cerebral Palsy Alliance鈥檚 supported employment division,听, for the preparation and shipping of most orders. Packforce, which has operated for more than 50 years, offers employment opportunities to Australian workers with disabilities.

鈥淲e use business as a force for good by donating 50 per cent of our profits to programs that help disadvantaged kids get access to education. As part of the FutureCFO , editor Teresa Leung had a chat with Gina McNamara (pictured), Chief Financial Officer, 51风流Australia and New Zealand (ANZ).

The CFO, according to Gina, is much more than a number person, and needs to take care of oneself and empower people beyond the finance team.

An advocate for looking after yourself, Gina shared her career journey and advice on how female finance professionals could reach the CFO position.

FutureCFO: Can you share with me your finance career journey? When did you start to become interested in finance?

Gina McNamara (GM):听I grew up in a country town in Queensland, Australia. While in school, I always enjoyed accounting, but I was actually more into sports and dancing.

During high school, I really liked numbers. I did an internship when I was quite young, spending lots of time learning in a public practice.

In my early 20s, I joined Lexmark. While working my way up, I happened to follow a CFO that I found very inspiring to a company called Business Objects, which was then bought by 51风流in 2008.

That was how I came into SAP. While working my way through finance, I increasingly noticed and aimed for the CFO role. I just wanted to learn as much as I could and see if I could get into that role.

I had a lot of encouragement from Richard McLean, Regional CFO, 51风流Asia Pacific Japan 鈥 I reported to him and I still do today. I’ve been the 51风流ANZ CFO since 2015, and I hugely enjoy it.

FutureCFO: what are your responsibilities as the CFO?

GM: My responsibilities are wide and varied. I partner with the executive leadership team on our strategy which is all encompassing 鈥 how the business is running, setting it up for success, our diversity inclusion strategy and making sure that we’re heading towards SAP鈥檚 global aspiration of 30% female leadership by 2022, and a regional goal of 40% by 2025.

I鈥檓 also the executive sponsor of the ANZ Business Women’s Network, which is SAP鈥檚 largest employee-driven network with more than 13,000 members and more than 60 chapters around the world. The network offers women at 51风流the opportunity to share professional insights and best practice, and help one another develop skills to advance their careers.

In addition, I lead 51风流ANZ鈥檚 Business Continuity Team. During the pandemic, I’ve been focused on decisions related to employee safety and mental wellness, as well as office reopening logistics and COVID safety procedures.

Besides number and compliance, I鈥檓 also in a not so typical role 鈥 heading up the sustainability committee where we make sure that we roll out all SAP鈥檚 global green initiatives across our ANZ offices. I鈥檓 passionate about sustainability and SAP鈥檚 recent Climate21 initiative,听which helps our customers measure their carbon emissions.

FutureCFO: Are there any specific values that you believe will help empower people who work with you?

Progresses two-year-old 鈥榬eady for anything鈥 approach.

Insurer IAG created a 鈥渂uddy system鈥 that paired technology staff with people in its business divisions to help understand some of the problems created by COVID and how IT might assist.

Executive general manager of enterprise service in IAG鈥檚 technology division, David Earls, told he viewed the buddy system as 鈥渢he standout鈥 initiative that IAG had pursued during COVID.

Technology to the rescue

IAG has a few initiatives to choose from here, including a听.

Earls said the buddy system saw 鈥渆verybody in [IAG] Technology sign up to 鈥榖uddy鈥 with a colleague in one of our business divisions to help smooth their transition to home.鈥

Buddies were members of Technology 鈥渨ho clearly had basic skills that would help understand the problems that were being faced, and also help to get them fixed for those individuals.鈥

鈥淚 found that we built great relationships across the business, across our teams, and we got a better understanding of the problems that our users were having when we did that move,鈥 Earls said.

鈥淚 would call out the buddy system as being probably one of my highlights [in IAG鈥檚 response].

鈥淚t goes to the heart of the culture at IAG where we really are about making the world a safer place and helping each other.鈥

Culture driving change

Earls said the cultural piece formed the backdrop of every decision – and direction – taken by the Technology team at IAG.

Earls鈥 own specific area, enterprise service, is a group function that delivers 鈥渆fficient, secure and standardised [IT] services across our divisions and geographies.鈥

鈥淚t includes the management and transformation of our people and finance systems to support a data-driven business with increasingly real-time information to inform better decision making for our business and for our customers,鈥 he said.

鈥淚t [also] includes our tech support for our colleague experience, enabling them to be ready for anything, [and] our underlying infrastructure and transition to software-defined and cloud-based services.鈥

Earls noted that COVID was simply the latest in a long line of issues that IAG had to deal with over the past year, including the 2019/20 measles outbreak in New Zealand, Australia鈥檚 bushfires, and floods and hail storms.

All of these events 鈥渉ad a massive impact on our business and our ability to react and support our customers in their moment of need,鈥 he said.

The right foundations

For IAG, that meant the company was already building ‘ready for anything’ capabilities for staff.

鈥淲e believe we’ve been on this journey for over two years now,鈥 Earls said.

鈥淲e already had a backlog of things we wanted to investigate further because we were already on this journey.

鈥淪o [COVID] was really an acceleration of that backlog to deliver the extra things that would make this easier and better for our employees and a more engaging experience.鈥

Earls said that the work this year is mostly focused around improving employees鈥 ability to work from anywhere.

鈥淲e’ve been doing a lot of work this year to ensure that our digital workplace is ready and enabled for anybody to work from anywhere, to have enhanced communication and collaboration from anywhere, and to be able to engage our customers from anywhere,鈥 he said.

鈥淧re-COVID, our business already made major steps to embrace flexible working and more remote working for our employees. That was a conscious decision by our businesses at every level, because we wanted our people to give their best to IAG when they were able to give their best.

鈥淭hirty (30) percent of our staff were predominantly working from home pre-COVID. We had already created the patterns and the designs that allow us to securely allow people to work from home in a good manner, allowing them to be highly productive, and to communicate and collaborate efficiently with their teams and other teams across the organisation and with their customers.
