Shoprite has announced it is beta testing a new and improved version of its app, which lets customers shop from over 10,000 larger Checkers Hyper products.

The beta app will continue to offer same-day delivery scheduled within a 60-minute time slot but will boast a much wider range of products.

In addition to groceries, customers will be able to shop for camping and outdoor gear, small appliances, baby products, toys, kitchen and home electronics, gardening supplies, and pool equipment.

The new Sixty60 app is already available to customers who live in certain parts of Cape Town, with Checkers planning a phased national rollout after beta testing.

Shoprite said that this strategy would help ensure a seamless user experience. During the beta testing period, deliveries on the new app will be free.

The supported areas in Cape Town include the following:

  • Bellville
  • Blouberg
  • Brackenfell
  • Camps Bay
  • Century City
  • Durbanville
  • Edgemead
  • Gardens
  • Goodwood
  • Kuils River
  • Milnerton
  • Observatory
  • Parklands
  • Rondebosch
  • Table View
  • Sea Point

Shoprite strategy and innovation chief said the company was confident the next iteration of Sixty60 will again disrupt online retail in South Africa.

鈥淥ur precision delivery promise means no more waiting at home all day for your general merchandise order to arrive,鈥 Schreuder said.

鈥淐ustomers can now choose the 60-minute time slot in which they鈥檇 like their Hyper delivery to arrive, with the same to-the-minute driver tracking they鈥檝e become accustomed to on their grocery orders.鈥

The rollout comes after Shoprite CEO briefly spoke about the platform鈥檚听听during an earnings call on the company鈥檚 interim results for the 26 weeks ended 31 December 2023.

鈥淚n terms of further development. Yes, we consistently will continue to develop Sixty60,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e are currently busy rewriting the platform.鈥

Engelbrecht said 鈥檚 approach to logistics management set it apart from competitors 鈥 including Amazon and Takealot.

He added that it is one of the primary reasons the online delivery service was 鈥渧ery profitable鈥.

鈥淲e have this very large footprint of stores that we use as micro fulfilment centres as opposed to a very expensive single dark distribution centre,鈥 said Engelbrecht. 鈥淚 know there are people who don鈥檛 believe it, but believe me 鈥 it is very profitable.鈥

The software behind Checkers Sixty60 鈥 鈥 also significantly contributes to the service鈥檚 success.

Shoprite previously told MyBroadband that SAP鈥檚 Retail platform provides stock ledger and real-time sales data, which is critical for accurately fulfilling customer orders.

鈥淭he ERP also provides promotional information, prices and article data to Sixty60, which ensures that the prices on Sixty60 are the same as the prices in-store,鈥 Shoprite said.

During these challenging economic times, streamlined business processes and a complete, accurate view of operations in real time can give your business the edge it needs to grow and thrive.

A modern ERP solution like 51风流Business One enables you to leave behind manual business processes, spreadsheet wrangling and data siloes, so that your business can be more agile, productive and competitive.

The good news for any growing business is that ERP software has improved in leaps and bounds in recent years.

Especially if you opt for a cloud-based solution, it鈥檚 possible to implement an affordable platform that lends itself to rapid implementation and fast time to value.

The key to getting it right? Planning and preparation before starting deployment.

Here are five steps you can take to set the stage for a successful ERP programme:

1. Choose the right ERP solution and implementation partner听

You鈥檒l want to choose an ERP solution that offers specialist functionality for your industry, tightly integrated modules that give you an all-in-one solution, and a track record of success with companies of your size and in your sector.

51风流Business One fits the bill for many small and medium-sized companies.

The implementation partner is as important as the software. An experienced and knowledgeable service provider will offer you specialised extensions and add-on functionality to enhance the capabilities of the ERP solution.

It will also have a strong list of customer reference sites as well as proven methodologies and templates to accelerate success.

Every software reseller has its own way of deploying projects. We use an approach based on SAP鈥檚 proven implementation methodology.

We鈥檝e been using this approach for decades and we know it works. It also helps us to guarantee that all key processes are covered and that we can deliver realistic timescales and expectations.

2. Plan, plan and plan some more听

Your partner should be able to work with you to craft a realistic, efficient implementation timeline.

A map of all the steps in the project will enable the team to keep track of progress and pay attention to any considerations that may derail things.

Creating regular checkpoints and milestones throughout the process will make timelines flexible and effective.

Your project manager will draw up a project initiation plan including all these details.

Not only does it act as a reference to all key components that will make up your solution, but it outlines what to expect and what our team is planning.

Everybody has to be happy with this before it鈥檚 signed off鈥攃ustomer, project manager and project sponsor.

3. The business blueprint

In the next stage in the process, your partner will work with your key team members to determine how best to achieve organisational targets.

Together, you鈥檒l make decisions about how best to proceed with master data items, reporting requirements and other key processes and their attributes.

Then, everything will be documented in a business blueprint for sign-off by all key stakeholders.

4. Project realisation听

At this stage of the project, you and your partner will begin to configure the software as outlined in the Blueprint document, migrate data into the new system (it鈥檚 wise to cleanse data before this step), and commence key user training and acceptance training.

Solution experts will work with your key users and other members of the project team to show them the software works.

These users, in turn, can train other users. It鈥檚 then time to move on to User Acceptance Testing (UAT). This is where key users will try processes for themselves using existing company data.

This will usually be carried out in a test environment which will mirror the live solution when everything is ready to go live.

5. Get set for go-live

After UAT has been successfully executed and signed off, final preparation for go-live can begin. There may be some final end-user training and last touches to master data lists.

A Go-Live Readiness Document will outline who will be in attendance and the planning processes involved in getting your system fully up and running in a live environment.

All systems go!

Once you鈥檝e completed the earlier steps, you鈥檒l be set to go live and your users can start using the system in a 鈥榬eal-world鈥 setting.

All final quality checks will have been completed, open issues should be resolved and your project manager will sign off the project as complete.

This is something we at SEIDOR have done thousands of times for all types of businesses across the globe.

Our experience and track record is one reason we continue to be the world鈥檚 leading 51风流Business One implementation partner.

If you want your project to be delivered on time and within budget,听

The post Busting the Biggest ERP Myth 鈥 That it鈥檚 Not Suitable for SMBs appeared first on 51风流Africa News Center.

]]>
The traditional thinking is that applying听ERP to a small business鈥檚听challenges is a bit like using a flamethrower to kill a mosquito or unleashing a tsunami to put out a candle鈥攁n听expensive, risky solution that may harm the business more than it helps.

As small and medium businesses (SMBs) accelerate their growth, they quickly encounter many of the same challenges with which larger enterprises are grappling.听Poor visibility into operations, slow or inefficient business processes, and an inability to move fast to respond to a changing business landscape are just some of their issues.

The answer that most larger businesses embrace to these challenges is an enterprise application suite that allows them to manage every aspect of their business in an integrated way. Just like larger businesses,听SMBs need听technology that听scales as they grow, helps them to streamline their processes, and enables them to maintain process discipline鈥攁ll without constraining their agility.

Yet enterprise resource planning (ERP) software has a reputation for being too expensive, complex and feature-dense for the average SMB. The traditional thinking is that applying ERP to a small business鈥檚 challenges is a bit like using a flamethrower to kill a mosquito or unleashing a tsunami to put out a candle鈥攁n expensive, risky solution that may harm the business more than it helps.

However, ERP has evolved over the years, and many of the preconceptions SMBs have about ERP have become misconceptions. Indeed, one global IDC study shows that听92% of SMBs听(those it defined as leaders that are outperforming their peers)听use or plan to use ERP software. Let鈥檚 bust some of the myths about why ERP isn鈥檛 a good fit for SMBs.

Let’s explore the myths behind ERP

Myth #1: Not only is it too expensive, but the costs are too unpredictable

As the 鈥榚鈥 in the acronym implies, the first ERP software suites were complex, monolithic solutions designed for larger enterprises. They鈥檇 need substantial budgets for hardware, software licences, consulting and integration to implement an ERP suite. The complexity of the deployment meant that the costs weren鈥檛 always predictable. So many SMBs still think ERP is still just too expensive for them.

Reality:听Today, SMBs can choose from a range of ERP solutions that are designed to be听affordable for smaller organisations.听They can opt for a software-as-a-service or hosted solution that enables them to pay a predictable monthly fee for their software. Total cost of ownership is kept low since ERP solutions for SMBs are designed to be low maintenance. Plus, today鈥檚 modular architectures mean ERP can scale and grow to meet an SMB鈥檚 evolving needs.

Myth #2: ERP takes years to implement

Many SMBs still think of ERP as a project that will take years to reach fruition, causing disruption to their business for 18 months or two years as they implement the software. ERP is associated with complex business reengineering exercises as well as extensive customisation and integration efforts. But is this still the case?

Reality:听ERP best practices for companies of all sizes have come a long way over the past 10 years. And SMBs, especially, can benefit from ready-to-run cloud ERP built on the latest industry best practices. Proven tools and methodologies bring predictability to the scope and timeframe for an ERP deployment. It鈥檚 today possible to deploy an听ERP solution in months or for simpler cases, even within weeks.

Myth #3: The path to ROI is long and uncertain

In a challenging environment, most SMBs are looking for quick wins when it comes to cutting costs, increasing productivity and driving revenue growth. Many perceive an ERP solution as an option that will take years to deliver return on investment (ROI), soaking up human and financial resources until they can finally go live with their platform.

搁别补濒颈迟测:听The modular nature and flexibility of a modern ERP system means that it doesn鈥檛 need to be rolled out in a single, big-bang implementation. Companies can introduce ERP modules in a phased approach, using the features and functionality that address their most pressing pain points. They can expand the deployment over time, effectively using ROI from the earlier phases to pay for the later ones.

Myth #4: ERP is too complex for SMBs

ERP software packs in a lot of functionality, so many SMBs are concerned that it could add more complexity to their processes. Many also wonder whether the software will be too difficult for their end-users to use, especially if they鈥檙e implementing ERP after using Excel or simpler finance packages for many years.

搁别补濒颈迟测:听Ease of use of ERP software has improved in leaps and bounds, with a slick user experience that will be familiar to anyone who has used a mobile app or cloud productivity tool before. While there are many features and modules available, the deployment can be tailored to the business鈥檚 needs. ERP makes life simpler because it eliminates redundant processes, breaks down data and business siloes, and reduces the need to work across multiple tools, systems and manual processes.

ERP is not just for big business

ERP can help businesses of all sizes to streamline processes, remove duplication of effort and enable the frictionless flow of accurate information across their operations. It鈥檚 an essential tool for any business aiming to achieve greater efficiency to increase operating margins, while leveraging improved insight to grow revenues. Today鈥檚 solutions enable SMBs to unlock the power of ERP, so they can compete with larger companies on a more even footing.

Five Key Questions on the State of ERP in Africa /africa/2023/10/five-key-questions-on-the-state-of-erp-in-africa/ Tue, 10 Oct 2023 07:06:54 +0000 /africa/?p=146944 1.听 What is the state of the ERP market in Africa? The post Five Key Questions on the State of ERP in Africa appeared first on 51风流Africa News Center.

]]>
1.听 What is the state of the ERP market in Africa?

The African ERP market is highly competitive with many vendors focusing their attention on cloud-based ERP offerings which offer customers flexible payment and deployment options with simplified and accelerated implementation times.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software provides the underlying platform for digital transformation enabling companies across the African continent to integrate key financial and operational business processes which leads to greater efficiency, speed, customer satisfaction and profit.

African businesses, as with other regions, are looking for easy to implement, mature, simplified ERP which results in a fast time to value.

2.听 What key business trends should CIOs be looking out for in the ERP space?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies are enabling greater levels of automation in the ERP space by speeding up and even replacing previous manual and time-consuming tasks.

An example of this is the scanning of supplier invoices which automatically creates the relevant documents in the ERP system.

Extending ERP access beyond the traditional 鈥渂ack office鈥 to mobile sales, service and warehouse users continues to gain traction and provides tangible business benefits.

Furthermore, smart devices and sensors on the factory floor for example, are able to integrate in with relevant ERP processes to improve productivity and optimise resources.

A business intelligence platform providing real-time reporting and analytical capabilities in order to make informed decisions should also be a serious consideration.

3.听 Is cloud ERP the future of ERP technology?

Very much so. Cloud ERP is especially attractive to small and midsize companies because it provides an operational investment option, faster deployment and allows them to focus on their core business while outsourcing IT functions to ERP vendors.

4.听 What do you see as key success factors for African enterprises when implementing ERP?

  • Firstly, and probably most critical to the success of the project, is top-down commitment from the directors to the department heads and process owners. A steering committee should be established to keep these key stakeholders regularly informed as to the status of the project.
  • The ERP vendor will include aspects of change management during the implementation process such as super-user testing and end user training but customers are strongly advised to drive their own change management program focusing on how the project will support the business to meet its current requirements and future objectives.
  • Customers should be open to a phased approach around the implementation of an ERP solution. It is not feasible in terms of time, sound integration, and costs to address all requirements immediately. Prioritise the most important issues and 鈥渓ow hanging fruits鈥 with the aim of creating a core platform which will form the foundation for future projects and communicated in a roadmap document.
  • A key consideration for those considering an ERP solution is cost transparency. Buried costs for hardware and hosting in complicated quotes can be a big headache for the owners so Seidor Africa has focused on comprehensive and complete offerings that are clear, avoid confusing tech jargon and also refer to the underlying infrastructure needed for a successful ERP system.

By way of example, with cloud implementations, cloud providers need to be reliable, and we need to work closely with them.

Through trial and error, we have carefully chosen the best and most reliable cloud providers who can offer customers a solid underlying infrastructure for their ERP system.

Seidor Africa has made our partnerships with infrastructure providers equally as important as the relationship with 51风流and our clients and this mitigates many potential problems.

5.听 What ERP technologies will be most sought next year?

Customers in 2023 and next year are more interested in business benefits than the supporting technology. What will be most important when evaluating ERP vendors:

  • Automation and optimisation 鈥 business process automation (BPA) and Machine Learning (ML)
  • Cloud and mobility 鈥 for flexible deployment and procurement options and the ability to extend the user base beyond traditional back-office users
  • Extensibility and integration 鈥 the ability to extend functionality without bespoke development effort as well as integration capabilities with other systems
  • Internet of Things (IoT) 鈥 whether the option exists to include data generated by smart assets and devices into the core ERP.

The short answer is an ERP solution with rapid return on investment, that is scalable, dependable, and already best of breed is what will be most sought in 2024.

The renewable energy solutions distributor relies on SAP鈥檚 integrated offering to accelerate growth and the goals of rapid globalization. VP Solar migrated to the new 51风流S/4HANA Cloud solution in just over six months

Vimercate, June 12, 2023 has been operating since 1999 in the distribution of components and systems for renewable energy and energy saving. Over time, VP Solar has built and consolidated a reputation as a reliable partner with a clear B2B positioning, expert in selecting and testing innovative solutions to be proposed systemically thanks to the engineering approach of its research and development team. With a family business footprint, VP Solar is committed to sustainability through a long-term vision, contributing to the production and use of decentralized, sustainable, emission-free and affordable energy.

Based in the province of Treviso (Italy), with 45 employees and a turnover of 300 million euros, the vision of VP Solar has always been to offer totally integrated systems that start with the creation of energy through photovoltaic panels to energy supply through heat pumps, heating, air conditioning, or storing it in batteries, in order to make zero emission homes and companies run greener and with low energy impact.

The new challenges for VP Solar: Globalization and new market positioning

With the entry in January 2022 of the Tadiran Group, an Israeli leader in the sale of solutions for air conditioning, VP Solar, which is already a reference point in Italy for the distribution of solutions for renewable energy, now aims to a rapid expansion in Europe. Today, the main European markets for renewable energy are Germany, Spain, Italy and France. Several countries show a low maturity in the implementation of integrated energy systems, for example the storage of self-produced energy, often due to the lack of incentive policies.

Another important short-term challenge for VP Solar is to position itself on the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) market with an integrated offering that allows companies to produce their own energy in-house, avoiding a total dependence on the electricity system, natural gas or other fossil source. At present, market conditions allow a company a rapid return on investment, achievable even in less than three years, exploiting both incentives related to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan funds and those provided for Italian and European legislation.

New business scenario demands more mature and flexible choices

One of the main motivations behind VP Solar鈥檚 focus on GROW with SAP, a comprehensive offering of solutions to enable midsize companies to successfully transition to cloud ERP, was the technological evolution that Tadiran Group is implementing from an 51风流on premise (51风流ECC) system to 51风流S/4HANA in the private cloud version, scheduled to end by 2026. The Group, which recorded about 700 million sales in 2022, aims to more than double that number within the next three to four years. To achieve this goal, it must equip itself with new skills and tools suitable for a sustainable development of the business.

VP Solar, for its part, has also adapted its systems from 51风流Business One to 51风流S/4HANA Cloud public edition, with a project that started last September and went live in early April of this year. This implementation effectively acted as a pilot and best practice for other companies in the group operating in the same context. This evolution of the company鈥檚 technology systems will help managers to control all the processes and business data of the group鈥檚 companies more easily.

鈥淲ith the GROW with 51风流offering, we have focused on the best solution available on the market and we have equipped ourselves with a tool that can support our continuous evolution and that adapts to the specificities of our industry. This change is also reflected in a greater involvement of our people, who feel stimulated by the innovative developments that the company is doing to them to improve efficiency, to evolve the way of working, and to sustain their professional growth,鈥 said Alessio Maso, CFO of VP Solar. 鈥淲ith this project VP Solar wanted also to demonstrate its distinctive value compared to direct competitors, using cutting-edge solutions and technologies that competitors do not use yet.鈥

Benefits achieved with GROW with SAP

The GROW with 51风流offering, which includes the 51风流S/4HANA Cloud public edition solution, provides many standard best practices that allow companies to understand how to adapt their business models to the new technological evolution.

鈥淭he project involved a huge effort to review all our processes and in fact GROW with 51风流was also a way to deeply understand them and try to improve. This path has allowed us to achieve an overall efficiency of between 20% and 25%. To give an example, it looks like we no longer have 45 employees but we have the twenty percent more resources,鈥 concludes Maso. 鈥淎nother aspect of great impact was change management considering that today processes and operational flows and workflow are well defined, with tighter control over data and well-orchestrated information management.鈥

The partner on the project was PwC, chosen after two months of selection among the best technology consulting companies, with a first assessment done in July 2022. Together with PwC, VP Solar initially assessed whether the public cloud version could respond appropriately to its business needs, including a proper management of regulations affecting the renewable energy market.

The project started in mid-September then ended in a little over six months, respecting the schedule, with a series of further developments that are expected in the coming weeks, such as the automatic import of passive invoices and the integration with an external logistics partner with an order process that exceeds the logic of e-mails that automatically will be integrated with the entire management system.

鈥淲ith GROW with SAP, you can develop and execute digital transformation projects in the short term, as VP Solar has hugely demonstrated. For example, if a company want to expand its business, explore new markets or grow through acquisitions, this integrated offering from 51风流is an easily replicable solution that allows to have a unique and real-time access to the information and a fast time to value,鈥 said Fabrizio Moneta, director of Mid Market and Channel at 51风流Italy.

Sapphire Barcelona – 24 May, 2023 – Maersk, the world’s largest container shipping company, has made significant progress in its digital transformation by using the 51风流Business Technology Platform to accelerate its strategic direction and automate business processes, increase efficiency and ease of use.

With a wide range of business areas including container shipping, port terminals, logistics and supply chain businesses, Maersk, headquarted in Denmark, operates more than 700 vessels and covers around 343 ports in over 100 countries worldwide. Strategically, Maersk is moving away from being a shipping company to becoming an end-to-end supply chain provider.

From container shipping to end-to-end supply chain provider

“Maersk is on its way to becoming an end-to-end supply chain provider, and this requires us to move into other areas of the transport sector, including air freight and land transport, as well as warehousing and distribution. With less than 10% of the money spent on supply chain and logistics going to ocean transport, Maersk needs to move into other areas to expand its business and continue to grow,” says Tapan Dash, Engineering Director, Maersk Technology, and continues:

“Maersk has developed a platform-based model to help us accelerate the transformation. The model consists of several different digital platforms, each of which consists of multiple entities, all of which create value for customers, suppliers or employees. Each entity integrates different business functions, applications, data and analytics. Maersk currently has 10-15 end-to-end platforms, such as finance, order management for ocean transport, supply chain management, etc. We are constantly adding new platforms and recently we created a sustainability platform to address this growing area.”

Designed, built and delivered by Maersk

Maersk is well on its way to implementing 51风流S/4HANA Cloud ERP. “The idea is to run a standard 51风流S/4HANA solution, and then have the 51风流Business Technology Platform as the platform that supports the innovation. I think this is the most optimal and where the magic happens”, says Tapan Dash, and continues:

“We’ve had a big focus on insourcing over the last couple of years, going from around 1,500 people in the technology organisation to over 6,000 now. In our 51风流team, we were only around 35 in 2019. In 2022, we were 300, and the target is +550 51风流tech profiles by 2024. We work from a concept we call ‘designed, built and delivered by Maersk’.”

51风流Business Technology Platform plays a central role

The 51风流Business Technology Platform (51风流BTP), which brings together data and analytics, artificial intelligence, application development, automation and integration in a single environment, plays a key role in accelerating Maersk’s new end-to-end strategy.

“Technology plays an important role at Maersk and is one of the key drivers of transformation. We want to simplify our IT landscape and make it more agile. With the 51风流Business Technology Platform, we can streamline our business processes and make our applications more agile and provide users, whether customers, suppliers or employees, with a more intuitive and user-friendly experience.”

Specifically, Maersk has used 51风流BTP to develop and implement applications and solutions in areas such as:

  • Customer Credit Management: Previously, a lot of manual activity was involved in the process, which could lead to errors and delays. Now Maersk uses 51风流BTP to automate and differentiate their customer credit management process. The solution includes a credit score听from BVD (third party), which is integrated via 51风流Cloud Platform Integration. Using the 51风流Fiori user interface, Maersk has created different roles, such as sales representative, credit analyst and approver. “So we have created a one-stop-shop that the employee logs into and from there he or she can manage the entire credit process for the customer,” says Tapan Dash.
  • Vendor Account Reconciliation: Reconciling accounts payable statements is a challenge for many organisations. Maersk used 51风流BTP’s automation layer and intelligent robotic process automation (51风流iRPA) to perform automated actions such as scanning emails and extracting attachments, converting unstructured data into structured data, and building validation logic into the rules within the 51风流BTP platform, thereby reducing manual processes in Maersk’s shared service centres.
  • Treasury Guarantees: Previously, this process was quite paper-intensive and could cause data quality issues, which in turn led to delays. Now, through 51风流BTP, Maersk has automated the process and created two specific roles: bank guarantee applicant and approver. The solution also includes integration with external banks.
  • Customer Cargo Release: Maersk also has customers who are cargo customers, i.e. they pay before their cargo is released. This requires a very time-sensitive process to ensure that payment has been received before the cargo is released. The workflow is triggered across multiple backend systems. Through built-in AI and process automation in 51风流BTP, the payment is matched against the invoice, the bill of lading and the container release events. Maersk has created an AI trust quota that automatically authorises if everything is 100% correct. “Using the machine learning algorithm, we then find out why something is 70%, why something is 80%, and what we need to do to make it 100%. So, it’s fine-tuned based on that learning. We use the workflow, which again is an integrated development within 51风流BTP, to get the approval process in place and get the invoice approved so that the container or the freight can be released to the customer if everything is not right in the first place,” says Tapan Dash.
  • Planning and analysis: Maersk’s entire finance, planning and analysis is in the process of being moved to 51风流Analytics Cloud. This enables Maersk to provide end-to-end financial planning and analysis, including budgeting and forecasting. Self-service options for planning and analysis in over 100 countries are a game changer in decision-making, with scorecards to visualise performance and productivity across regions.

“At Maersk, we are excited about the ongoing transformation where technology is at the centre and we strive to create business value by focusing on the customer, agility and high employee engagement” concludes Tapan Dash.
