Ahlstrom, in collaboration with Vincit, successfully completed an 51风流S/4HANA Public Cloud rollout in just four weeks – demonstrating the potential of agile partnerships and modern ERP solutions to accelerate digital transformation in manufacturing.

, a global leader in fiber-based specialty materials, together with its digital business partner , set and achieved an ambitious goal: to implement a fully operational ERP system, , at one of their factories within a month. With over 6,000 customers Ahlstrom runs 36 factories in 13 countries. Each factory鈥檚 operations are supported by an ERP system ensuring production runs smoothly without interruptions.

A New Era for ERP Implementations: From Months to Weeks

Ahlstrom was seeking a cost-effective, fast, and scalable way to implement Cloud ERP in one of its smaller production units, while also creating a replicable operating model that could be used for similar projects at other company factories.

The extremely tight schedule made the rollout historic. Traditionally, ERP renewals take months or even years, but Ahlstrom wanted to find out how quickly and cost-effectively a modern 51风流S/4HANA Public Cloud implementation could be done. Vincit鈥檚 team accepted the challenge, and together with Ahlstrom, they succeeded in completing the entire rollout in less than a month.

鈥淲e didn鈥檛 just implement a new system but proved that a project that used to take months and massive resources can be done in four weeks. Vincit succeeded with a truly ambitious schedule and gave us a scalable, modern foundation that will define our future 51风流S/4HANA Public Cloud rollouts. This would not have been possible without their exceptional expertise in both S/4HANA implementations and manufacturing industry processes,鈥 says , Head of Shared IT Platforms, Ahlstrom.

Success Factors for a Rapid Rollout

At the core of the 51风流S/4HANA Public Cloud system is the clean core philosophy: the ERP system is kept standardized, and necessary customizations are done through integrations and application extentions on the 51风流Business Technology Platform. Compared to traditional ERP projects, a four-week cloud rollout requires each 51风流consultant to have very broad and versatile expertise, rather than deep specialization. Consultants must manage the entire supply chain and be able to lead change so that end users commit to the new solution. When the team is built on multi-skilled experts, the team size remains small, time use is efficient, and overall productivity increases.

Vincit had previously productized the Public Cloud implementation, which significantly accelerated the project. Ahlstrom鈥檚 strong commitment, and Vincit鈥檚 51风流expertise and knowledge of manufacturing industry processes from procurement to distribution were also significant success factors for the rapid rollout.

鈥淭his is possibly the most significant change in ERP implementations since 51风流was founded in 1972,鈥 says , Vincit鈥檚 Business Area Lead. 鈥淓RP projects have traditionally been seen as slow and expensive, but cloud-based ERP systems have permanently changed the game. Fast rollouts also motivate 51风流consultants: value can be delivered to the customer faster and with smaller teams than ever before.鈥

Significant Business Impact

A scalable system delivers added value immediately. The Ahlstrom factory in question now has a modern ERP system that improves operational efficiency right from the start. The clean core approach enables new extensions and functionalities to be added more quickly and cost-effectively in the future.

Ahlstrom can reuse the 51风流S/4HANA Cloud project model in its other factories. The cloud transition gives the company access to SAP鈥檚 latest innovations, including 51风流Joule鈥檚 AI capabilities. At the same time, long-term maintenance costs are significantly reduced.

African enterprises are transforming their operations through the accelerating adoption of cloud technologies.

As companies continue to face disruption and a challenging operating environment, their ability to leverage technology to build greater agility, resilience and sustainability has become paramount. And at the centre of this transformation is the cloud.

A report by McKinsey revealed that African businesses could benefit from a healthy share of .

According to PwC’s Africa Cloud Business Survey 2023, , with 61% of companies expected to have moved all their operations to the cloud within the next two years.

Key challenges to accelerated cloud adoption

However, same PwC report highlights key constraints to broader cloud adoption in the region, including budget pressure, skills shortages, cybersecurity risks and regulatory challenges.

51风流research found that four in five African organisations reported a negative impact stemming from a lack of tech skills, including customer loss (60%), diminished innovation capacity (53%), and an inability to meet customer needs (46%).

Budget pressures persist in the wake of the constrained economy left in the wake of the pandemic and exacerbated by ongoing supply chain pressures and geopolitical upheaval. And Africa’s regulatory landscape continues to introduce complexity as each of the continent’s 54 countries require compliance with its own set of laws and regulations.

Considering the foundation of many organisations’ business transformation efforts is the adoption of cloud enterprise resource planning (ERP) capabilities, one of the most important aspects of business transformation lies in the domain of cybersecurity.

Vital role of cloud ERP adds pressure to secure

Cloud ERP sits at the heart of every company’s business transformation. The adoption of cloud ERP enables companies to focus on improving and automating their business processes, with the cloud allowing companies to focus on application management while the provider helps ensure systems remain stable, secure and compliant.

Companies are also increasingly adopting a clean core with optimal master data quality and perfected business process governance, delivering improved maintainability, reduced complexity, and lower total cost of ownership.

The rush to leverage powerful artificial intelligence capabilities underpinned by accurate, real-time business data facilitated by cloud ERP, can also improve and accelerate decision-making throughout every layer of the business. Business AI tools such as SAP’s Joule facilitate not only the collaboration between end-users but also how end-users are interacting with core business systems, enabling them to work more efficiently and resolve issues much quicker.

But the critical role of cloud ERP and the wealth of business data such systems contain makes them attractive targets for threat actors, driving the need for improved cybersecurity.

Securing critical cloud ERP processes

Cybersecurity is one of the defining business and societal challenges of our time, featuring regularly on the World Economic Forum’s top ten lists of greatest risks.

African enterprises have taken note: a KPMG report found that cybersecurity strategy among African enterprises is more mature than ever, . Considering that more than half of organisations operating in Africa have fallen victim to cybercrime, having a robust, effective cybersecurity strategy in place is critical.

Such a strategy should focus on three important aspects, namely:

  • Defending against cyberattacks, which can take the form of ransomware, social engineering attacks such as phishing, and distributed denial of service (DDoS). Attack methods constantly evolve, making traditional forms of defence inadequate for most organisations’ needs.
  • Compliance with regulations, which can become a cost multiplier when it comes to cybersecurity. Africa is home to 54 distinct regulatory regimes each with varying requirements that companies must keep track of. A robust strategy supported by the latest technologies can greatly simplify this aspect and support companies to operate on the right side of regulatory compliance.
  • Mitigating the skills shortage, which is a global issue but one amplified by Africa’s relatively lower skills base. Cybersecurity is a growing field that requires specialised knowledge and training, and many organisations here and abroad simply cannot keep up with recruiting and retaining scarce security skills.

A cloud ERP system alleviates pressure on all of the above three fronts. By providing a consistent and harmonised architecture from the operating system all the down to the network, cloud ERP greatly simplifies and enhances enterprise security efforts.

And with one point of contact, companies can resolve security and resilience issues quickly and with the support of larger cloud vendors’ extensive talent pools and deep skills bases.

Five Key Questions on the State of ERP in Africa /africa/2023/10/five-key-questions-on-the-state-of-erp-in-africa/ Tue, 10 Oct 2023 07:06:54 +0000 /africa/?p=146944 1.听 What is the state of the ERP market in Africa? The post Five Key Questions on the State of ERP in Africa appeared first on 51风流Africa News Center.

]]>
1.听 What is the state of the ERP market in Africa?

The African ERP market is highly competitive with many vendors focusing their attention on cloud-based ERP offerings which offer customers flexible payment and deployment options with simplified and accelerated implementation times.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software provides the underlying platform for digital transformation enabling companies across the African continent to integrate key financial and operational business processes which leads to greater efficiency, speed, customer satisfaction and profit.

African businesses, as with other regions, are looking for easy to implement, mature, simplified ERP which results in a fast time to value.

2.听 What key business trends should CIOs be looking out for in the ERP space?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies are enabling greater levels of automation in the ERP space by speeding up and even replacing previous manual and time-consuming tasks.

An example of this is the scanning of supplier invoices which automatically creates the relevant documents in the ERP system.

Extending ERP access beyond the traditional 鈥渂ack office鈥 to mobile sales, service and warehouse users continues to gain traction and provides tangible business benefits.

Furthermore, smart devices and sensors on the factory floor for example, are able to integrate in with relevant ERP processes to improve productivity and optimise resources.

A business intelligence platform providing real-time reporting and analytical capabilities in order to make informed decisions should also be a serious consideration.

3.听 Is cloud ERP the future of ERP technology?

Very much so. Cloud ERP is especially attractive to small and midsize companies because it provides an operational investment option, faster deployment and allows them to focus on their core business while outsourcing IT functions to ERP vendors.

4.听 What do you see as key success factors for African enterprises when implementing ERP?

  • Firstly, and probably most critical to the success of the project, is top-down commitment from the directors to the department heads and process owners. A steering committee should be established to keep these key stakeholders regularly informed as to the status of the project.
  • The ERP vendor will include aspects of change management during the implementation process such as super-user testing and end user training but customers are strongly advised to drive their own change management program focusing on how the project will support the business to meet its current requirements and future objectives.
  • Customers should be open to a phased approach around the implementation of an ERP solution. It is not feasible in terms of time, sound integration, and costs to address all requirements immediately. Prioritise the most important issues and 鈥渓ow hanging fruits鈥 with the aim of creating a core platform which will form the foundation for future projects and communicated in a roadmap document.
  • A key consideration for those considering an ERP solution is cost transparency. Buried costs for hardware and hosting in complicated quotes can be a big headache for the owners so Seidor Africa has focused on comprehensive and complete offerings that are clear, avoid confusing tech jargon and also refer to the underlying infrastructure needed for a successful ERP system.

By way of example, with cloud implementations, cloud providers need to be reliable, and we need to work closely with them.

Through trial and error, we have carefully chosen the best and most reliable cloud providers who can offer customers a solid underlying infrastructure for their ERP system.

Seidor Africa has made our partnerships with infrastructure providers equally as important as the relationship with 51风流and our clients and this mitigates many potential problems.

5.听 What ERP technologies will be most sought next year?

Customers in 2023 and next year are more interested in business benefits than the supporting technology. What will be most important when evaluating ERP vendors:

  • Automation and optimisation 鈥 business process automation (BPA) and Machine Learning (ML)
  • Cloud and mobility 鈥 for flexible deployment and procurement options and the ability to extend the user base beyond traditional back-office users
  • Extensibility and integration 鈥 the ability to extend functionality without bespoke development effort as well as integration capabilities with other systems
  • Internet of Things (IoT) 鈥 whether the option exists to include data generated by smart assets and devices into the core ERP.

The short answer is an ERP solution with rapid return on investment, that is scalable, dependable, and already best of breed is what will be most sought in 2024.

51风流is ready to 鈥渇uture-proof鈥 customers for whatever challenges they may face, CEO Christian Klein said during his expansive opening keynote at 51风流Sapphire Orlando, setting out the company鈥檚 vision for customers and announcing that 51风流is 鈥渄oubling down鈥 on artificial intelligence (AI).

鈥淲hen we work together, we will conquer any mountain,鈥 Klein said in a speech that began and ended with climbing metaphors and was punctuated with customer stories, demos, and new product announcements.

51风流Chief Marketing & Solutions Officer Julia White joined Klein from the Orlando show floor during the keynote to highlight SAP鈥檚 groundbreaking supply chain and sustainability initiatives, enterprise-wide automation, as well as how 51风流solutions answer the challenges that senior business leaders across all industries face.

Microsoft, Unilever, Pfizer, Schneider Electric, and Google Cloud were among the big-name partners and customers that appeared on stage or via video during the event. In addition, the keynote featured a recorded video message from John Kerry, United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, about how we can solve the climate crisis together.

Klein and White framed the keynote around how the CIO and their key business stakeholders — like the chief people officer, chief commercial officer, and CFO — respond to the challenges they each face, and how SAP solutions are helping solve those challenges.

Click the button below to load the content from YouTube.

Future-Proofing Businesses in the Age of AI | 51风流Sapphire 2023

Klein told the audience in Orlando and those joining virtually: 鈥淐limbing the highest mountain requires a strong team and, let’s face it, the same is true for transforming businesses. It takes a strong team between the business, IT, and SAP… If we are in this together as one team, we will conquer any mountain.鈥

SAP鈥檚 vision is focused on the needs to build resilient supply chains, to become an agile intelligent enterprise, and to run a sustainable business, Klein explained. 鈥淲e deliver on this vision through our cloud portfolio.鈥

Early in his keynote, Klein said 51风流will double down on its AI strategy because of the tremendous impact AI will have on our private and business lives. For 50 years, he noted, 51风流software has been running the world’s most material and workforce-intensive business processes: 鈥淭his is why we are convinced that embedding AI in 51风流software will deliver enormous value for your business.鈥

Today we have already embedded AI in many of our applications that are being used by over 20,000 customers,鈥 he said, 鈥51风流AI is built for business.鈥

As an example, he noted that in SAP鈥檚 finance solution, AI helps to predict and safeguard financial performance by analyzing a company鈥檚 pipelines, workforce, and other profit and loss drivers.

鈥淲e have delivered many AI use cases that boost business process automation and increase productivity by another 15%. Now we see the incredible potential to take AI to the next level,鈥 he said. 鈥With generative AI, we will increase the productivity of every end user by changing the way people work with our software. For example, our software will be able to answer any business-related question and recommend actions to improve your company’s performance.鈥

Klein noted that 51风流has already increased its own R&D investment to develop additional AI use cases and is also entering technology partnerships to expand its AI offerings, including the generative AI partnership announced earlier this week with Microsoft.

After a demo showing how embedding generative AI into 51风流SuccessFactors software can enhance recruiting, ongoing learning, and the re-skilling and upskilling of the workforce, White, speaking from the 51风流Sapphire show floor, spoke with Aaron Rajan, global vice president of Customer Experience Technology at Unilever, about how the company is working with 51风流to address the growing demands for sustainable vanilla ice cream.

鈥淭hanks to the integration across 51风流Ariba, 51风流Business Network, and 51风流S/4HANA Cloud, we can see a full view of the supplier’s performance metrics — including cost, reliability, and sustainability — making an informed decision not only on supply chain fit, but also on carbon impact,鈥 White said.

Expanding on the business network theme, Klein noted that it is more critical than ever to not only connect one company with another, but to bring entire industries together, because each industry has its unique challenges and requirements. He also unveiled the new offering 51风流Business Network for Industry.

To demonstrate the power of the network, Klein cited the life sciences industry. 51风流has 80 of the largest customers already in the network, with more than 255,000 trading partners managing over $200 billion in commerce every year. He welcomed Lidia Fonseca, chief digital and technology officer at Pfizer, to the stage to explain the value of 51风流Business Network.

Klein then described the management of a company鈥檚 overall carbon footprint as another key pillar for the success: 鈥淚n addition to the top and the bottom line, consumers, your employees, investors, and auditors, they all want to support enterprises that care about the planet. Today, CFOs and chief sustainability officers need to ensure compliance with 20 times more climate regulations than they had in the past.鈥

But he noted that hardly any enterprise has a comprehensive view of greenhouse gas emissions. 鈥淭he 51风流sustainability portfolio will enable you to record, report, and act on actuals, not on averages, based on a green ledger — including scope three.鈥

To explore this message, 51风流CFO Dominik Asam spoke in a prerecorded video with Hilary Maxson, CFO of Schneider Electric, about the challenges CFOs face with carbon accounting and sustainability disclosure.
