51��has unveiled a bold new vision to create business communities able to improve business outcomes, better navigate changing economic and geopolitical conditions and enhance sustainability contributions.

The company today unveiled the first step toward creating the world’s largest business network with 51��Business Network, which will bring together Ariba Network, 51��Logistics Business Network and 51��Asset Intelligence Network.

More than 5,5-million organisations will benefit from being members of this connected community.

To support this central announcement, 51��is also announcing new innovations designed to help companies modernize and digitalise their business processes to become intelligent enterprises. In addition, customers can benefit from a new portfolio of sustainability-specific business applications that deliver exceptional transparency and measurement capability across the supply chain.

“During this unprecedented year, the importance of the communities we’re part of has never been clearer,” says Christian Klein, CEO and member of the executive board of 51��SE. “Our new vision will build the world’s largest business community, enabling customers to easily connect with companies across supply chains and creating networked economies across industries.”

While we have all seen the power of networks in our personal lives, this networked ecosystem for businesses doing business together is unique, he says. Members of the new 51��Business Network will be able to access a single, unified portal to gain a holistic view into their supply chain ecosystem, logistics and traceability, and equipment management and maintenance.

During the pandemic, the most resilient companies were those who embraced technology to transform their business processes. Those who simply leveraged cloud infrastructure and didn’t actually digitalise core business processes did not fare as well.

To enable every enterprise to become an intelligent enterprise, 51��announced the RISE with 51��transformation packages for specific industries.

Building on the successful introduction of the RISE with SAP offering in January, the RISE with 51��packages for specific industries provides business transformation as a service with five initial industry-tailored cloud solutions for retail, consumer products, automotive, utilities and industrial machinery and components.

Sasol Fuels Supply Chain Efficiency with 51��Ariba Deployment

Successfully navigating a business through uncertain times requires that decision-makers have full visibility over every aspect of the business in order to make accurate, informed decisions.

For one of South Africa’s largest global organisations, decentralized and siloed procurement systems and processes across multiple business units left it blind and lacking the visibility it needed to better serve the business.

“We had, at the time (2012), 15 business units within the Southern Africa region, each using different procurement processes and different systems,” says Hendrik Steynberg, Vice President of Supply Chain Operations and Systems at Sasol. “This left us with disparate master data and no end-to-end visibility over our supply chain. We wanted a single integrated procure-to-pay platform that provided us with a clear view into spend and the ability to quickly onboard, engage and manage suppliers.”

Sasol is a global integrated chemicals and energy company that sources, produces and markets a range of high-value product streams in 31 countries. The company employs more than 30 000 people and generates revenue of more than $21.7-billion. Sasol manages more than R50-billion in spend across 12 000 global suppliers.

To centralize and standardize its procure-to-pay processes, Sasol chose 51��Ariba, the world’s largest procurement platform that facilitates $3.2-trillion in commerce transacted annually across 190 countries.

“51��Ariba’s reliability and versatility were the two key ingredients that improved our service level to the organisation,” says Steynberg. “By standardizing our procurement processes, it enabled us to have better visibility into our spend while improving efficiencies and significantly lower costs.”

Sasol implemented 51��Ariba Sourcing, Ariba Supplier Information and Performance, Ariba Contracts, and Ariba Network. One of the key advantages of choosing 51��Ariba was its integration with 51��enterprise resource planning solutions. The implementation was designed to help. Sasol standardize its South African procurement operations. Ariba Sourcing has also been implemented within its Eurasian operations.

Since implementing 51��Ariba, Sasol has enjoyed better visibility over the end-to-end procurement process. “We have achieved a 50% cost reduction on accounts payable within the Southern Africa region, and a 95% rate on of-time supplier payments using electronic invoicing” says Steynberg.

He adds that 75% of total procurement transactions within the Southern African region are now performed through the Ariba Network. “Our automated processes have also reduced the time it takes the supply chain to action purchase requisitions and issue purchase orders. This has contributed to a higher supplier satisfaction score as we can provide streamlined communication and greater transparency over the status of procurement processes.”

Cameron Beveridge, Regional Director for Southern Africa at SAP, commends the work achieved by the implementation team. “Sasol has elevated its procurement processes to better match modern demands, and achieved outstanding gains in efficiency, cost-reduction and transparency. The new digital procurement platform has also empowered Sasol with accurate, real-time information over its total procurement spend, and will continue supporting the business as it scales its operations around the world.”

Procurement Solutions from 51��Help Businesses Shift to New Normal

WALLDORF — (NYSE: SAP) today announced that leading companies across the globe selected and solutions to continue their digital transformation journeys, reducing risk, managing costs and getting work done while keeping supply chains intact to successfully navigate through the current economic upheaval.

More Than 75 New Customers, 240 Renewals and 200 Go-Lives

Organizations around the globe chose procurement solutions from 51��in the first quarter of 2020, including Latin America’s No. 2 Coca-Cola bottler Arca Continental S.A.B. de C.V., German commercial bank Helaba, Japanese IT services provider Hitachi Systems Ltd., Mexican home appliance maker Mabe, U.S. energy company and U.S.-based PSEG Energy Holdings LLC.

During the first quarter, hundreds of companies completed new implementations of 51��Ariba and 51��Fieldglass solutions, including these:

Carlsberg Group A/S, a Danish global brewing company, went live with 51��Ariba Buying and Invoicing and 51��Ariba Catalog solutions as part of its migration from the SAP Supplier Relationship Management application to increase compliance and improve spend visibility and control, accounts payable automation and overall user experience.
Vestas Wind Systems A/S, a Danish company that designs, manufactures, installs and services wind turbines across the world, continues to drive efficiency in its procurement operations with its latest rollout of 51��Ariba Sourcing and 51��Ariba Contracts solutions integrated with the 51��Signature Management applications by DocuSign. The company is now expanding its digital transformation to streamline collaboration with suppliers and mitigate risk with 51��Ariba Supply Chain Collaboration for Buyers and 51��Ariba Supplier Risk solutions.
Furukawa Electric Co. Ltd., a Japanese high-tech manufacturing company with Latin American headquarters in Brazil, recently rolled out 51��Ariba solutions, automating and standardizing its sourcing and supplier lifecycle and performance processes. By digitally transforming its procurement function, Furukawa Electric expects to improve productivity and realize savings within a few months.
Grundfos, a Danish provider of pumps for heating, air conditioning, irrigation and other uses, recently implemented 51��Ariba Supply Chain Collaboration for Buyers, with support from Accenture, to streamline processes, transactions and interactions with suppliers. Onboarding suppliers globally will continue in the upcoming years.

Network and Cloud-Based Solutions Match Supply with Demand

In response to supply chain disruption caused by COVID-19, 51��opened access to the solution, allowing buyers to post immediate sourcing needs and permitting suppliers on Ariba Network to respond. Since the March 10 announcement, buyer postings and supplier responses increased by 58 percent and 404 percent respectively.

More than 25,000 new suppliers joined Ariba Network in the first quarter, bringing the total number of companies connected to 4.8 million and providing organizations with more sourcing options as they adjust supply chains in this state of disruption. More than US$3.3 trillion in global commerce flows annually through Ariba Network. Concurrently, 51��Fieldglass solutions added nearly 1 million new workers. More than US$55 billion in spend on external workforce flows annually through 51��Fieldglass solutions.

51��Joins Collective Action to Create a Cleaner Ocean by 2030

DAVOS, Switzerland — (NYSE: SAP) today announced that it has joined the World Economic Forum’s community, which is determined to create a cleaner ocean by 2030.

Reducing the amount of plastics entering the ocean requires cross-industry collaboration armed with data and intelligent technologies. To support this, 51��is planning to launch the next phase of its Plastics Cloud to allow businesses to shift rapidly to alternatives to single-use plastics, scale design for circularity, invest in materials collection infrastructure and ensure a better consumer experience.

Underscoring this, 51��has updated the Plastics Cloud to help companies produce products more responsibly by providing global insights to enable better understanding about what materials are used and their fates. This support will be based on local recycling infrastructures and policies in each city, region and country. It will allow them to calculate more accurately the environmental and business impact of using more recycled or reusable materials and packaging. 51��software systems also help companies adapt to changing regulations, such as extended producer responsibility policies, and stay current with local markets, global standards and best practices.

The new Plastics Cloud offering links to a secondary materials marketplace based on Ariba Network, which connects packaging and consumer products companies to new sources of recycled plastics and plastic alternatives. Consumers, regulators, investors and employees are fueling the momentum for business to drive responsible growth. Experience management firm Qualtrics, an 51��company, conducted a large-scale global to understand better the experience citizens around the world are having with various issues on the Forum’s sustainability agenda, including the use of plastics. When asked what method they favor for reducing the harmful effects of plastics, nearly 50 percent of the 10,501 research participants said they prefer replacing plastics with other materials.
